In 1974, Arthur C. Clarke Predicted The Internet

Not just as a vague concept, either. The famed science fiction author absolutely nails it, from the bank statements to the hardware to the social changes to the possibilities for communication.

"Visionary" is an awful, over-used word, but it's cases like this which are the rare exceptions you can actually use it and it fits.

    He really did nail it.

That's so amazing. What a smart man. He did foresee it all.

Or he is a time traveler! Explains everything!

Not bad, you should see some of the stuff that Nikola Tesla predicted.

    This quote is from 1908:
"As soon as [the Wardenclyffe facility is] completed, it will be possible for a business man in New York to dictate instructions, and have them instantly appear in type at his office in London or elsewhere. He will be able to call up, from his desk, and talk to any telephone subscriber on the globe, without any change whatever in the existing equipment. An inexpensive instrument, not bigger than a watch, will enable its bearer to hear anywhere, on sea or land, music or song, the speech of a political leader, the address of an eminent man of science, or the sermon of an eloquent clergyman, delivered in some other place, however distant. In the same manner any picture, character, drawing, or print can be transferred from one to another place ..."

And had he had the funding he probably could have realised a lot of it.

This comes from the ABC's "80 Days That Changed Our Lives" website:

There is a bunch of other interesting footage up there.

    What, no mention of porn?

Scifi writers & TV writers have predicted so much of the modern technology we have today. Look at star trek's communicator, perfect model of the mobile phone sans keypad (and with voice control getting almost useable nowdays its hardly needed). Hell, in the 1966 Batman series, Batman checked the bat computer remotely over a high speed radio link (or probably high speed batradio link), they effectively invented the wireless metro area network.

If you're into the things Clarke was alledgedly into, best not to bring up porn.

This predates the article interview by ten years, but the ABC is more relevant to gaming i guess

People put more importance on Mayan predictions than insights from this man

In the future, humans will be flying into space, international flights will be a matter of hours, rather than days. Research colonies will be set up on the moon and the first humans will walk on the surface of Mars. NOW SOMEONE MAKE IT HAPPEN DAMMIT!!!

Holy shit guys its one of the observers from Fringe, right before stress turned him completely bald!
