Watch Kingdom Hearts 3D’s New Battle Systems In Action

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance plays a lot like past titles in the series, especially Re:coded and Birth by Sleep, however there have been a few major changes.

The first is the “free-flow” system which allows you to perform special attacks by interacting with enemies or the environment in certain ways. These attacks are always more powerful than normal combos and magic so a well-placed grind rail or light pole can make a difficult battle into a simple affair.

A new type of shooter stage has been added as well. Sometimes they revolve around collecting items or defeating a certain number of enemies. Other times, they’re just massive boss fights.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance was released in Japan on March 29, 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS. A Western release is planned for sometime in (northern) summer 2012.
