Community Kudos

Today’s Community Kudos is being brought to you from the balls-shrinkingly cold city of Melbourne, in the lobby of ACMI in Federation Square, uploaded via its free wi-fi, and written on a laptop with ten minutes of battery left. Let’s see how this goes, shall we?

First, I’m going to give my very first Community Kudos. I’ve always imagined myself as apart from Community Kudos, like an absent overseer. I just report, I never nom! But today, I want to nom, and predictably I want to nom everyone. Thanks for being such a great community, and thanks for being such a great audience to write for. It’s really gratifying to know that, if I put work into something, no matter how strange or weird the topic, there is someone amongst you guys and girls that will appreciate the work I put in. For a writer that is the best thing. So thank you.

Anyway — let’s get nomming!

There are a lot of people who felt the same way as me this week I think. I received two very beautiful emails this week from members of our community, emails that really expressed the level of support our community gives one another.

The first was from Scree. I won’t post the entire email, because that would be unfair, but Scree said she was going through a hard time recently, really struggling. She went on to Team Speak to see if that would make things easier for her and, of course, it did. Because you are all awesome. Scree’s Kudos noms went to Greenius, NoobHeadshot, Nos, Techknight, Smurfydog and Trjn for helping her out.

The second email came from Strange, and she wanted to nominate everyone.

The reason I want to nominate everybody is because last night I was a guest on the ever-awesome duo of Shiggy and Gentleman What’s Potaku and the experience really started me thinking about how much being involved in this community has done for me on a personal level.

A few years ago I would have never have even dreamed of doing something like record a podcast. And even if I had agreed to it I would probably have ran away at the last minute to avoid putting myself out there like that. But thanks to becoming a part of the Kotaku community and being around these amazing people I not only did it, but I enjoyed every second of it and even though I know I wasn’t perfect and didn’t always make sense I’m not stressing about it. Which is the real victory. My
reaction would usually have been to dwell on what I said, and then feel sick because I struggled finding the words to say what I meant and probably go away and hide for a few decades. 😛

But now I’m confident enough in who I am to let it go. I said things, I’m happy for them to be out there in the world for anyone to hear, and I don’t really care if people like what I did or not. Well I do care, I’m just not worried about it. 😀

So thanks Kotaku community for helping me learn to relax and just enjoy life without worrying about unimportant things. *hugasaurus*

The internet can be so stupid sometimes. I’m really glad that Kotaku, in some small way can be a relatively safe place where people are free to be themselves and express their own opinions. Thanks for making it that kind of place.

*wipes tears*

Alright! Let’s drop the Kudos bomb with some Shiggy noms!

I also like this one from NegativeZero.

I want to nominate the whole community for Kudos for being awesome. Because they are.

Do you know who’s awesome. Rocketman. Do you know why? Because he’s invented this awesome game where he makes a list of things to do for people and the actually have to do them, and provide evidence. What the hell Rocketman!

Freyr dropped a nom because she found the whole thing hilarious and entertaining. Aleph-null said it left him with a warm fuzzy feeling.

Oh, you thought I forgot about the Canberra meat? WELL I DIDN’T! We had a fair few Meat related noms, the first being from the Notorious R!

Blaghmang – For letting people go to his place for the Meat. Also he made me a muffin 😀
Bish – Because he makes delicious foods and never stops working. Best guy!
Jordi – For some delicious brownies!
Doc What – For amazing chickens and pakora!
Shiggy and Flu – For giving me a lift to and from the airport. Also Flu has an amazing voice! But then he gets an Anti Kudos nom for not playing MGS3 yet.

These noms from Greenius were partly meat related, but not totally…

masha2932 for putting up with, and answering my constant questions about PlayStation Plus and playing a couple of the games with me

Bish for being Bish

Blaghman cause he hosted a meat and is the coolest monstrosity I’ve ever known. I also like his evil Blaugh

Crazyguy1990 for going on a Crazy kindness spree and gifting lots of people various games. Whatta guy!

Beavwa for gifting me Torchlight on Steam

And all the people who have helped me with LoL

Trn sent in a nom for gifting him a copy of Torchlight, Cakesmith nommed Kermitron for his always excellent comments (they really are excellent!) and The Cracks nommed Puppylicks for being hilarious on twitter, which he always is.

Hey FatShady! Remember FatShady? He’s back. In nom form. I got this nom so early it wasn’t even the start of the week yet!

Has anyone got in a Kudos nom so early is wasn’t even the start of the week yet? Well on my calendar the week starts on a Sunday so technically this is just an early nom. I want to send a shout out and Kudo-rific Nom to to Both Beavwa and Crazyguy 1990. Both of these guys gifted me games on steam. Now I have been really quite distant from TAY recently and it was really nice to have these guys still send stuff my way, for no other reason than them being good guys. What they also don’t know is that I’ve been having a really difficult time at work and have also received some pretty shitty family related information over this weekend (Oh sorry, this WEEK!) so it was just great to have these nice things to cheer me up.

Ooooooooooooh FatShady!

This week’s winner of Community Kudos is BLAGHMAN(g)!
