Fez's Bug-Fixing Patch Breaks It Even More

When she reviewed Phil Fish's critically acclaimed indie game Fez earlier this year, our own Tina Amini noted that she experienced a few crashes while playing through the game. The intermittent glitchiness were a known issue and dev studio Polytron has been working on a title update to fix it.

But don't go grabbing that update just yet because it apparently makes Fez game saves read as corrupt. In a post on the studio's official site, Polytron programmer Renaud Bedard advises players on the situation:

There is an issue that seems fairly widespread where the save file can be seen as corrupted by the game after installing the patch. We're floored that this wasn't found in testing. For the moment, deleting your system cache should resolve the issue, but if that fails, there is no known workaround. We'll keep you updated on the situation.

It sounds like the patch might need a patch. Right now, it seems that the best thing to do is to not download the title update at all.

It was already impossible to access leaderboards, what happens now!

That's gotta suck, it costs 40k to patch XBLA games

I just watched Indie Game: The Movie last night. Phill Fish is one intense guy. Loved his rants, he has genuine passion about what he's doing.

Yeah I feel the same way. I can understand why people don't like him, but I appreciate his passion as a developer. The completion of Fez (his first game ever I believe?) must have been a particularly stressful period of his life, so I hope that now that's over he calms down a wee bit though.

really? i feel like you just made that up. seems like a strange thing to make up. crazy internet people... long live phil fish! he'll get it sorted

According to the website M$ has pulled the patch so if you go in to play the game it won't force you to update for the time being.
