Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut Adds New Ending Option -- Watch It Now [Spoilers]

Spoilers ahead. So much for the extended cut of Mass Effect 3 just adding a slideshow to the end of the game's many possible endings. It appears that development studio BioWare has given players a new option at the game's final junction.

Instead of choosing to synthesise with the Reapers, destroy the Reapers (and Geth) or take command of the Reaper, commander Shepard can tell the star child to go to hell and refuse to make a decision. (A user on the BioWare forums claims you can also just shoot the kid to literally trigger this new ending. We've not done this ourselves.)

Note: we have not encountered this option ourselves but believe the widespread conversation of it online among fans and a clip of it on YouTube prove this is not a hoax but in fact a real new option. We're racing to the ending ourselves and will confirm when we've gotten there.

It's real.

Here's the new refusal ending.

The new choice appears to be available from a new batch of dialogue options seen in this shot atop this story, which was snapped overnight by NeoGAF message board user CrewNH.

The original version of Mass Effect 3 presents only the options seen in this shot and then allows Commander Shepard to choose among three possible final acts.

I... still don't understand how they can f*** this up so much. That's the new ending? That you failed, no matter what? Ridiculous.

So you didnt play the game to understand what the cycle was? The new ending makes *complete* sense and oddly is probably the most satisfying so far. HATERS JUST GONNA HATE.

the endings still have MAJOR plot holes. Yes they made the endings more happy and emotional but it almost seems like a trick to make those who played through the 3 games think this was the ending we asked for. It was not. Although i will admit this ending is MUCH better than the original ending it is still HORRIBLE compared to the rest of the series and should of been done right. My objections to bioware still stand.

actually more disappointed with the three new endings than the original ones.

...why is the god-child still in it....?

...why is the god-child still in it....?

So bascially, despite the supposed "readiness" status, Bioware have basically said - if you don't like the endings we originally gave you, we'll give you one where you give a speech like Mel Gibson in Braveheart (watched the footage twice with the 2nd one adding a bad Scottish accent to McShep) and still end up being defeated.

I think that was done deliberately as a middle finger to the haters. Your choices are use the crucible and succeed or don't and fail. Some people would prefer it that way. I would've done it had the choice been available originally.

Why are people thinking you fail no matter what? You only fail in one of the four endings, the one they added. The other 3 options overall are happy endings, which wasn't shown in the original ending.

Overall, not a bad job at filling in a lot of the plot holes and adding some closure. I was never a huge fan of the original endings, but I didn't really support them being changed, either. Was nice to see it expanded on, anyways. I was kinda hoping the indoctrination theory was gonna hold up, that would've been cooooool.

This really does make perfect sense. One of the big complaints that Bioware got about the endings was that it wasn't possible to loose to the reapers, even though they said you could. So yeah, this is a little bit of a fuck you to the haters, but it's a kind and well thought-out fuck you.

      not really, it's a quickly mocked up F U.

I feel that this is a much better ending than the other 3, but it still does not explain the major plot holes that lead to the star-child even existing in the first place.
