Meet The Game Creators Behind Guild01

Level-5's newest game, Guild01, isn't really one game, but rather four games in one. Each of these games was created by a different director and have nothing in common other than the cartridge they come on. But what is most interesting about these games are the men behind them.

Three of them are famous developers in their own rights — with games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Seaman, and No More Heroes under their combined belts. The other is… well… a comedian.

To find out more about each, see below.

Guild01 was released on May 31, 2012, in Japan. There is currently no word on a Western release. Stay tuned to Kotaku East for the full import preview later this week.

Goichi Suda

Game in Guild01: Liberation Girl (Kaiho Shojou) Previous Titles: Lollipop Chainsaw, No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned, Fatal Frame IV Bio: More commonly known as Suda51, Goichi Suda is known in the West for his over-the-top style, ranging from a cheerleader killing zombies, to an otaku assassin with a lightsaber. He originally came into the spotlight with Super Fire ProWrestling Special due to the game's infamous suicide ending. He is now the CEO of Grasshopper Manufacture and is currently working on a new PS3/360 title called Killer is Dead.

Yoot Saito

Game in Guild01: Aero Porter Previous Titles: Sim Tower, Seaman, Odama Bio: Yutaka "Yoot" Saito is a developer famous for not being afraid to think outside the box. His games often include voice commands and are full of his quirky humour. His first major release was the game Sim Tower (where you build and manage an ever-growing skyscraper) which he has remade and re-released several times over the years. Now he busies himself as the CEO (and founder) of the game company Vivarium Inc.

Yasumi Matsuno

Game in Guild01: Crimson Shroud Previous Titles: Vagrant Story, Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy XII, MadWorld, Final Fantasy Tactics Bio: Yasumi Matsuno is a pretty big name in the world of RPGs. Not only did he co-direct Final Fantasy XII, but also he is the creator of two of the most revered strategy-RPGs ever created (Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics). He is also one of the few directors to have two games receive perfect scores in Famitsu magazine. Recently he joined Level-5 because they were willing to give him full control over the games he makes.

Yoshiyuki Hirai

Game in Guild01: Omasse's Rental Weapon Shop (Rental Bukiya de Omasse) Previous Titles: None Bio: Unlike the others on this list, Yoshiyuki Hirai is not a professional game director. Rather he is a traditional Japanese comedian and plays the "bokke" (funny man) in the comedy duo America Zarigani. His biggest claim to fame is starring on Sakiyomi Jan Bang! where he and his partner promote things related to the manga of Weekly Shonen Jump, V Jump and Jump Square. Other than that, he has had several small voice acting roles across anime and games. He is an avid gamer and has been a celebrity player on the Japanese version of Inside Xbox.
