Castle In The Darkness Is Metroid, Castlevania, Megaman, Mario And Zelda, All In One

How many references can you spot in the trailer above? We’ve got Super Mario Bros. almost from the get-go and every frame of the trailer pretty much screams Castlevania. This isn’t a mash-up though — it’s an in-development game called Castle In The Darkness, one we should see before the year is out.

There’s not a lot of information available for the game, but we do know it’s heavily influenced by the aforementioned classics — something developer Matt Kap freely admits on the game’s website. “Castle In The Darkness is a retro-styled exploration platformer … It is inspired by games like Castlevania, Megaman, Metroid, Zelda and everything else I played as a kid!”

He goes on to say that it’ll be “very challenging”, a concept anyone who’s played Megaman will be very, very familiar with. As long as there are no bloody invisible blocks, I’ll be happy.

The FAQ mentions it’ll be out in 2012 on iOS and PC and will be “very cheap”, which probably means $0.99 (on the App Store, at least). Sounds like an excellent price to me.
