DICE Wants You To Be Excited About Battlefield 3, Not Battlefield 4

We've got ourselves a notice posted today on the official site for Battlefield, home of Battlefield 3, a game that still has three major downloadable content packs coming out between now and the end of March 2013. The message was posted in light of today's official confirmation about, uh, Battlefield 4.

Battlefield fans –

The team at DICE is hard at work on the next entry in the Battlefield series, and to ensure access to the exclusive Battlefield 4 beta, shooter fans can pre-order Medal of honour Warfighter today. While there is no further Battlefield 4 news at this point — remember, if you don't see it published here, it's just rumour and speculation — we did want to take this opportunity to share a few thoughts on the state of the Battlefield franchise.

We are extremely proud of Battlefield 3, and with millions of fans out there, we're happy you're enjoying it too. When we launched the game, we introduced unparalleled levels of in-game destruction, all-out vehicle warfare and redefined online gameplay. Even with billions of bullets fired and millions of games played, we know the Battlefield 3 story is still just the beginning. As ever, we are humbled by the community's response to the game, and couldn't be happier with the feedback we have received to Battlefield 3 Premium. With the Back to Karkand and Close Quarters expansion packs already out, armoured Kill around the corner, and End Game and Aftermath still on the horizon, we're looking forward to many more hours of gameplay with you, and can't wait to see the stories you will tell through Battlelog and player created videos.

But we're not ready to talk about Battlefield 4 yet - in the meantime, we hope you will continue to enjoy Battlefield 3 and all the Battlefield 3 Premium content still to come. We invite you to check out Danger Close Studio's Medal of honour Warfighter, which is also powered by the Frostbite 2 engine and the free social network, Battlelog. Don't forget that pre-ordering Medal of honour Warfighter Limited Edition (at no extra cost) guarantees access to the exclusive Battlefield 4 Beta.

See you on the battlefield!

Don't mind that sequel we just announced or that the first method they revealed for getting into the beta for it will by pre-ordering a different EA-published war game made by a different group of people who don't make Battlefields.

Somewhere, this makes sense to someone.

"unparalleled levels of in-game destruction". LOLWUT You reduced the in game destruction from Bad Company 2. This is all marketing-speak bullshit.

Yes it was really misleading during the advertising period :/

Agreed, the amount of in-game destruction was disappointing. It was said to be X but turned out to be Y. You cannot do what they actually claimed unless it's a prescripted event.

Yep I miss Destruction 2.0 - oh hey I might just go back and play BC2. On balance (esp now) it is the better game

It's no wonder bugs take so long to fix >_> They are too busy getting ready to make more money again.
I thought BF3, just from playing it, would last less than half the time that BF2 did, this just confirms it.

BF2 has managed to give gamers more than 6 years of enjoyment, through mods, more varied gameplay and a now ancient game engine. BF3 it seems, will last less than 2. Claps for DICE, you seem to be able to produce "better", yet worse, games.

Every time someone says "this game won't last another X year/s" they are always wrong. Every time.

Really? Because the beta for BF3 didn't hit for at least 5 years after BF2. We've got a L4D2 situation on our hands here. The BETA for BF3 hit Sep 29 2011. Thats less than a YEAR ago dude. 1 freakin' year. The game was then released on what, October 25th??? It hasn't even been one single year and we're hearing about the inevitable sequel. That's a new record in bloody awful. They obviously have zero confidence in the game.

          Oh AND...

BF2 STILL remains a much better f***ing game.

Sad to say, but this is in fact true. BF2 was much more fluid and mechanics were just right, without the gimmicky bullshit that they inserted into BF3 to make it seem more "realistic." Hell, even BFBC2 was better than BF3.

I will not be buying the new MOH, and i couldn't care less about Battlefield 4, they lost me as soon as rent a server took over and they basically took away the game i payed $60 for and replaced it with the current BS state the game is now in, not to mention the fact that Battlefield Premium is not even worth the $50 price...... F#$* EA and F#$* DICE. i'm done with them...

Agreed. I'm no longer an EA customer. Typical press release up top just ignores any and all criticism.

I reckon EA has that Pink Floyd Money song on high rotation in their office.

Battlefield 3 and the frostbite 2 engine really upped the anty of first person shooters so of course they gonna continue to make new battlefield games at a faster pace these days. Battlefield 3 has really intensified the battlefield vs call of duty war so they have to keep releasing new content for battlefield 3 plus get battlefield 4 under way to compete against call of duty who are bringing out games at a faster pace too. I love battlefield 3e what trials

I love battlefield 3 but I'm keen to see what tricks dice have up their sleeves for battlefield 4

        Be more subtle....

LOL BF4 ... BF3 isnt that old.... go the mighty cash machine!

Don't worry DICE, i'm not excited about Battlefield 3 OR 4. You know what would get me excited? Some Bad Company 3. Let me drive more tanks on golf courses, or fly pimped out choppers like the first game.

Equality in DLC pricing. Until then, screw you.

How do we know it's going to be a straight sequel? For all we know, they're just referring to it as Battlefield 4 to hide the fact that it's actually a 2142 sequel or something.

Heck it could be called Battlefield 4 and be set in WWII or Vietnam or anything.

I am interested in another 1942 game. I am a bit bored with modern shooters.

make bf4 so it starts in 1880's and each month a decade of weapons/vehicles and maps. everything from 1890's would be the first dlc. and have the last dlc be set in 2050 or something.

I played Bad Company 2 on Xbox every opportunity I had send racking up over 600 hours of multiplayer until they switched off the Aussie servers. I think I have maybe put in 150 hours of BF3 because it isn't anywhere near as much fun as BFBC2 now DICE haven't even finished putting out DLC and they are already talking BF4

Long live Bad Company 2, you will always have a special place in my heart.

Battlefield 4 had better be set in WWII, then il get hyped for it, but if its another modern age shooter... there will be so much MEH.

Because WWII games weren't done to hell :S

So, they are trying to match the release cycle time of COD? Fantastic. They couldn't get BF3 right and now they plan to match a release cycle that is only made possible by two studios working on COD games at the same time.

BF4 crash and melt the Internet.

    I miss Bad Company 2....

They cant make games like this completely destructable cause it will end up with a game where you cant hide anywhere and that is what made bad company less fun.

Battlefield 3 was the start of a series that will end up being a CoD killer with battlefield 4 and I wouldnt be Surprised if Medal of Honor Warfighter ends up surprising the whole industry.

Plus I noticed the whole industry grabbing EA's words before BF3's release and twisting them.
