While it won’t look as good as it could, which is a bit of a shame, Capcom’s upcoming HD re-release of Okami still looks great. Especially when you watch this new trailer in 1080p, and remember just how satisfying it was to unleash that STORM OF FLOWERS.

I really hate these HD re-releases. It just seems like nickle and diming to me. Furthermore, you can already play Okami at 1920×1080 (or higher) with 8x AA and 16x Anisotropic Filtering if you have a decent PC which I’m willing to bet looks better than this HD port. I guess what I’m saying is that if companies want my money then they’ll need to do more than up the resolution of an old game.

Fair enough, but most people can’t be fucked, or don’t know emulation exists. For them this is perfect. Also, 6 years is a long time, there are people who haven’t played this game before, now they get to experience it in HD. Just be happy for them.

I agree, I didn’t hear about the original until about 2 or 3 years after it was released, by which time I wasn’t sure if I could be bothered getting it for the aging PS2. The HD re-release will probably find its way into my library though.

Just goes to show you far art direction and a beautiful concept can take you. This looks amazing 6 years after release. I will play this game now, one of my biggest regrets was not playing this…. even though I have it.

Funny how they decided to show that part for a hires ‘trailer’. If I recall correctly, the transformation cut scenes is actually pre-rendered movies .
This effect is particularly noticeable during emulation, where it will shift from crisp edges, to a blocky downscaled movie. -

Capcom have said they’re completely re-doing the cutscenes so they run in-engine; so, fortunately, there’ll be no awkward drop in graphical quality a’la God of War Trilogy.
Personally I think this re-release is absolutely justified – OKami didn’t sell brilliantly (to my knowledge) and so Capcom are looking for a new audience. I think the game’s art style is perfectly suited to the HD format, and I’ll definitely be buying it as soon as it’s released. I’ll also be playing it with Move – which isn’t something I’ve said for quite some time.-

I have to disagree. The art style is actually perfectly suited to SD consoles as the low resolution barely has an effect on the detail of the textures as the textures are already incredibly low in detail. The only worthwhile upgrade is the reduced jaggies which I admit is significant, but not worth buying the game again for (imo). I’d rather they devoted the resources to porting Dragon’s Dogma to PC. It would probably work out more profitable for them as well. Hopefully Dark Souls sells well and Capcom takes notice.
