Sam Raimi Is Not Directing The World Of Warcraft Flick

Sam Raimi was going to make a movie based on World of Warcraft. Now, he's not.

At this year's Comic-Con, Raimi told CraveOnline that he isn't attached to the WoW film anymore, because he decided to make Oz: The Great and Powerful instead.

According to Raimi, "Actually, they don't have me directing World of Warcraft anymore because when I took the Oz job, they had to move on to another director. They had to start making it."

Raimi did not reveal who that "other director" was. How about Moon director Duncan Jones? Back in 2010, he was excited about Raimi making the movie. Maybe he would be more excited about making it himself?

The chances, however, of this flick ever being finished are not so good. Hollywood rarely makes its game adaptations into actual movies.

"Hollywood rarely makes its game adaptations into actual movies"

What? There have been dozens of games, what's happening recently is it's being harder for games to be made into movie lately due to budget reasons and/or other reasons.

its more likely that they're buying up rights so other studio's wont make something half good and get money out of it, look at the halo movie of what 3-4 years ago which never happened (that i know of)

That was because MS wouldn't give up creative control, not because some studio bought the rights with no intention of making the movie just to prevent others from doing it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was also because Hollywood types feel that a laconic, faceless, unkillable cyborg death god isn't relatable to mainstream movie audiences. That, and trying to get an actor to play a role without showing their face is like convincing a cat to take a bath.

"That, and trying to get an actor to play a role without showing their face is like convincing a cat to take a bath."

Tell that to David Prowse, who curiously enough, fills the "laconic, faceless cyborg death god" pastiche pretty well.

Otherwise... Halo, as a character-driven story, is terribly overrated. It would need to be told from an ODST/GI abngle to be worth watching, let alone making.

Please let it be Uwe Boll or Michael Bay
