Some Stages In The New Mario Look A Lot Like Jetpack Joyride

Mario on rails? Some stages in the newest Mario game will borrow the auto-run mechanic found in many mobile games like Temple Run and Jetpack Joyride.

When you enter one of these stages in New Super Mario Bros. 2, which is out for 3DS on August 19, Mario will start dashing like there's no tomorrow. You'll have to jump to dodge pits and enemies, a feat that, judging by the above video, could get pretty challenging.

Also in New Super Mario Bros. 2: stages that take place at night.

So what do you think? Do you welcome these new levels or does the thought of more auto-run games give you a headache?

Oh might as well include them, for a bit of fun and distraction.

Didn't previous Mario games do this first?

They've done scrolling levels or areas where you're forced to keep moving, but I think the difference here is that you can't alter Mario's momentum.

    Didn't battletoads do this first?

I don't really have a problem with it especially considering I haven't played it yet. I will probably get irritated by people trying to tell me that Mario stole from Jetpack Joyride though.

Jetpack joyride wasnt even the first in te genre either

Though the fact that they both contain coins makes it the best comparison as oppossed to somethin like canabalised or earlier games

At first I thought you meant the Turbo Bikes. But then I remembered that (second-last?) level with those wheelie things that have you running all around the walls. Holy hell that was a pain. I must have suppressed it so that I wouldn't remember it.

I can barely see the similarity.... and I've sunk a ton of hours into Jetpack Joyride.

Oh oh oh! Can we get Mario on rails time trials?!

I'm pretty sure stages in the original SMB take place at night!

I'm pretty sure this is already how I play 2d Mario games....
