The more I think about it, the stranger it is that a new Earthworm Jim game hasn’t been made yet, but according to Jim’s creator Dave Perry, it’s just a matter of time.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Perry said that the people who would be involved in developing the game are just busy doing other stuff at the moment.
“Our problem is that the team is all doing well in whatever they’re doing right now,” said Perry.
“It’s just a bunch of guys who all have their own thing. Everyone has their own company. So, to get them to stop what they’re doing and work on a game is very difficult, but it’s something they all want to do.”
Apparently Dave Perry already has a rough idea of how a new Earthworm Jim would play out.
“The thing we had talked about in the past is Jim had been in retirement,” he said to Eurogamer. “So, he’s been sitting at home watching movies and eating popcorn. He’s grossly overweight now. The plan was to start with him literally getting off the sofa, and it’s a disaster because he just hasn’t done anything since. But he’s got to get back into action again.”
I’d love to see a new Earthworm Jim — a 2D Xbox LIVE/PSN effort would be perfect. I personally enjoyed recent reboots of classic 16-bit style platformers such as New Super Mario Bros Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns. There’s no reason the same thing couldn’t work with Earthworm Jim, particularly since gamers have such affection for the character.
Make it happen!
