There Will Be A New Earthworm Jim, We Just Don't Know When...

The more I think about it, the stranger it is that a new Earthworm Jim game hasn't been made yet, but according to Jim's creator Dave Perry, it's just a matter of time.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Perry said that the people who would be involved in developing the game are just busy doing other stuff at the moment.

"Our problem is that the team is all doing well in whatever they're doing right now," said Perry.

"It's just a bunch of guys who all have their own thing. Everyone has their own company. So, to get them to stop what they're doing and work on a game is very difficult, but it's something they all want to do."

Apparently Dave Perry already has a rough idea of how a new Earthworm Jim would play out.

"The thing we had talked about in the past is Jim had been in retirement," he said to Eurogamer. "So, he's been sitting at home watching movies and eating popcorn. He's grossly overweight now. The plan was to start with him literally getting off the sofa, and it's a disaster because he just hasn't done anything since. But he's got to get back into action again."

I'd love to see a new Earthworm Jim — a 2D Xbox LIVE/PSN effort would be perfect. I personally enjoyed recent reboots of classic 16-bit style platformers such as New Super Mario Bros Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns. There's no reason the same thing couldn't work with Earthworm Jim, particularly since gamers have such affection for the character.

Make it happen!

I HATED Earthworm Jim 3D. It was funny and the levels were clever, but the marble collection crap was a chore. Die once and you have to go back and collect all 100 again, and they required you to go to every single area on the fucking map. I couldn't even unlock the second western level as a kid. On top of that, the second boss was crazy difficult, took me weeks to beat but 3 was a cakewalk by comparison..

So yeah, not too bummed there isn't an Earthworm Jim 4.

Earthworm Jim 3D does not exist...

        N64 title.

Yeah, I know its on N64... get it :P

Need to bring back the cartoon!

Made with the rayman origins engine I hope.

YES! UbiArt Framework would be perfect for this. Also, Doug TenNapel's involvement will be the key to success.

That would be cup filling material right there!

    Earthworm Jim: Nuts & Bolts?

exactly! banjo kazooie has already done this scenario.

        And it was a trainwreck.

If I could change anything about that game, it would be giving Banjo back his moves. Not for gameplay, but for moving around the world. It's either drive a car, or woddle around like an r-tard. If you could talon trot and flutter jump the game would feel a LOT better, and less people would have hated it.

It HAS to be 60fps/hand drawn animation, proper 2D, as so many new iterations of classic games always take the cheap and easy route, and wreck the ip in the process. From the way David Perry is speaking though, I think there's nothing to worry about - he wants to do it right or not at all.

Talk of a new Earthworm Jim makes me want a new Boogerman game as well :)

He's a Groovy guuyyyy!! Earthworm Jim!! He rockets through the skyyyy! (Fall's of rocket on blastoff)
    - From the opening of the animated series.. always made me laugh that part.

A new MDK game coming out at the same time would actually be even more awesome!!!

Please don't ruin this wonderful opportunity to reintroduce the current generation with how awesome games were in the 90s.

Earthworm Jim occupied approximately 90% of all my school-age notebook margins.
