This is pretty incredible. Perfume company Epic-Scents has done the impossible — it has teamed up with Capcom to create a smell that represents and defines certain video game characters, starting off with Mega Man and Proto Man, who apparently smells a little bit spicy, because he’s a “rebel”.
“We really want gamers to know that we are making a fragrance that is an experience of who that character is,” said Project Director Jim Kavanaugh, speaking to Polygon. “We’re not saying this is what Mega Man the metal robot smells like, this is a fragrance that expresses him.”
This is crazy. But also kind of amazing — the fact that a simple character like Mega Man has become so defined in the minds of audiences that someone could believe that a perfumed scent could define him.
“When we select a character we want to select a fragrance that is an expression of that character,” said Kavanaugh.
Apparently the team endeavoured to create a masculine, heroic scent for Mega Man.
“There is a purity in him, he has a real pure heart,” said Kavanaugh, “but there is also masculinity, and bravery.”
