A Dramatic Look At The Story Of Neverwinter

Every time the terms “Dungeons & Dragons” and “story” appear together and I don’t find myself in a 10×10 room with four other people, checking for traps, I’m just the tiniest bit disappointed.

This is Neverwinter, the action-MMO take on the classic franchise, as previewed by our own Kate Cox earlier this year. Specifically this is the Gamescom trailer for Neverwinter, now confirmed for an early 2013.

Perfect World Entertainment has the game playable at Gamescom. It’s also playable at GenCon this weekend, and PAX Prime two weekends later. If you’re at the first, give it a spin. If you’re at the other two, maybe try to get into a game of D&D proper instead? I hear they have 10×10 rooms.

    • D&D is the epitome of generic fantasy, in that every generic fantasy that came after more or less copied their formula instead of creating their own unique slice of the genre.

  • I honestly can’t see this doing well. It’s rather like SWTOR for me in that I would rather have had KOTOR 3 than an MMO and I’d much rather have a NWN3 than a Neverwinter MMO. Unlike SWTOR though I doubt this will have the kind of story hooks and production values that made it stand out a little among all the other MMOs being released these days.

  • did you guys remember to turn HD on the video? I watched it on SD and it did look quite shit but after putting it on HD it improved quite a bit.

anyway I prefer NW a million times over skyrim. Way more to do in NW, way more fun.

  • Wait… so the Necromancer has the Death Knell artifact and is using it to forge an army. So we need to get the shards of the artifact to defeat him… does he have it or not? Is it some quantum effect? **sighs**
