Halo 4’s Spartan Specializations Change The Way You'll Play Multiplayer

The big changes to Halo multiplayer keep coming to the next entry in the sci-fi shooter franchise. Microsoft's just announced that a new set of class-based specialisation ranks that players can earn after they hit level 50.

As explained on Halo Waypoint, specialisations dole out armour modifications designed to enhance certain playstyles. So, the Wetwork specialisation opens up mods that let players ramp up stealth movement, making them harder to be seen or heard, whereas the Stalker specialisation lets you track opponents who have shot at you.

Halo 4 will feature eight specialisations, which will each have 10 ranks. Two specialisations will be available when the game comes out and the remaining six will be available for download for free after launch. If you get the Limited Edition of Halo 4, you get access to all specialisations right away.

For $US99, the Limited Edition of Halo 4 comes with access to those eight specialisations, War Games Map Pack Access — which pre-pays for nine future multiplayer environments — along with a special version of the Forward Unto Dawn live-action series set in the Halo universe and skins for in-game armour and Xbox Live avatars. You'll also get a UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet Those who don't get special edition can buy the War Games Map Pack Access separately for $US24.99.

    I preordered the limited edition so I'm happy to hear it appears to be worth my money.

      I totally agree. I can't believe how stoked I am for Halo 4 - after the recent batch I thought I'd never be excited about Halo again.

    I've never been a fan of classes or perks in multiplayer shooters. One of the reasons I loved Halo 3's multi so much was that it didn't include things like this. I'm still super excited for Halo 4, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get into the multiplayer as much as I got into it in 3.

      same, halo was a bit more "old school"

      also, it sucks playing splitscreen with a friend when they have better gear than you...

    I'm just wondering how they'll affect the balance of the multiplayer.

    So 6 months after release, picking this game up to play MP will be absolutely worthless. Unless you like getting insta-ganked and tea-bagged by cyber ninjas.

    Weeeee fun.

      These specializations are very minor in terms of gunplay and the like, it still comes down to how well you can land consecutive headshots to the other player.
