Mass Effect 3’s New Singleplayer DLC Delves Into The Origins Of The Reapers

News of Mass Effect 3‘s add-on campaign — rumoured weeks ago — has surfaced at EA’s Summer Showcase event. Here’s the description.

Mass Effect 3: Leviathan is the first story-driven, single player DLC to be made available since Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut. Leviathan expands upon the events of Mass Effect 3 with gripping and emotional storytelling, compelling new characters, powerful weapons and unique upgrades. Players will be able to discover more about the origins of the reapers as they race across the galaxy to unravel the mystery that surrounds the fabled Leviathan.

We’ll have more on Mass Effect 3: Leviathan soon.

  • ….first ending made me uninstall after a few days and I can hardly be stuffed downloading ME3 again……..It’s been fun Mass Effect. that’ll do shepard… that’ll do.

    • Ditto. I loved the franchise far more than any sci-fi universe that has been around in a while, even more so than Star Wars, but the ending completely invalidated everything for me. While I admit I didn’t check out the ‘fixed’ ending DLC, I’ve been told it doesn’t really make the nonsensical bits any clearer. I’m now at the point where I’ve mourned for the franchise and moved on.

I understand that some people don’t feel this way, this is just my two cents.

      • IMO whoever told you that must have been high while they played it. The Extended Cut has changed the endings for the better. Some people think that is enough while others are still disappointed that they didn’t change the endings completely. Personally i was happy with it.

        • Does the freaky Starchild still exist? The one that basically says ‘we were sad that organics created synthetics that killed them, so we created synthetics to kill organics before they made synthetics to kill organics’? The one that completely invalidated the theme of ‘we’re not so different and we can all get along if we try?’

That was my problem with the ending.

And my friends are stone-cold sober!

          • He’s still there, and that bit still makes no sense. But the added epilogue scenes do make it hopeful rather than crushingly depressing.

          • agreed, the EC gave me (personally) the type of ending I wanted….so much so that I am on my 3rd play-through now, and also started playing (and enjoying) the multiplayer 😀 Very excited for this DLC.

  • Will be interesting to see how they fit this in narratively, especially given the EC ending with the Catalyst telling you details regarding the Reaper’s purpose.

    • By the looks of it (and the partially leaked script included in the EC files) this fleshes out the bits of info the starkid mentioned in his new EC dialogue. It stands to reason they put those lines in the EC because they were going to address it in Leviathan.

  • More Single Player DLC is about all that will get me interested in this game again to be honest. I have yet to finish the game with EC (watched it on youtube instead), so maybe once this comes out i might finally get around to it.

And yes, although I love the franchise to death and I didn’t like the ending, i do still rate the franchise very highly and will enjoy any SP DLC they bring out 🙂
