New Japanese Manga Allegedly Rips Off Popular Anime

K-On! originally debuted as a manga, and it then went on to spawn an anime, a feature film and a video game. It's a pretty popular series, so when it's copied, people tend to notice!

The latest issue of Jump Next features up and coming manga. New comic "Ooedo Punk", which did get some good reviews online, sports some K-On! style eyes and facial expressions that match up with a still from K-On!.

This might be an all out copy, or it might be subconscious. Whatever it is, don't say "lazy".

Update: Eagle-eyed readers have pointed out that the inspiration seems to be Hyouka, which was done by the studio that did the K-On! anime.

Pretty sure i've seen the same eyes, hair and facial expressions on various characters in dozens of Anime that i've watched.

    "dont say 'Lazy" ha ha!

    Chitanda!!! <3

cute face shining eyes black hair, only about over 9000 anime inspirations right?

I loved K-on! but don't you dare say anything against Chitanda!

Anime is a very limiting style, of course so many look alike.

Will you report on how haruhi suzumiya looks like yui from k-on with just her hair changed next I'm excited for this big video game news.

Definitely looks more like Hyouka than K-ON, but given how popular Kyoani is and (imo) how well done their art style is, not exactly surprising (or all that bad, either) when there are works using them as inspiration. At least it's not a full-on trace copy =D
