Plants Vs. Zombies Sequel Coming Q2 2013

The dead will rise and the vines will writhe come next Australian autumn, when Popcap Games finally gets around to releasing a sequel to the popular lawn defence game Plants Vs. Zombies. It’s about damn time.

Other than the fact that the sequel will bring new features, situations and settings to the missions of champions of plant life that played the hell out of the original game (hi), no further details were given regarding platform, pricing or even a proper name.

The official announcement was just stopping by to let you know that there is a sequel coming, possibly in response to folks like me who whinged about the lack of a true sequel earlier this month when Popcap announced a virtual zombie pet.

What does seem clear is that this game is a direct sequel, which could be interpreted to mean that it will feature the same sort of game play as the original Plants Vs. Zombies, making it a completely different animal than the rumoured console action game based on the franchise.

And, hey, the release did come with an official statement.

“Spring is crullest curlie ungood time, and plantz grow dull roots,” noted an unidentified spokesperson. “So, we are meating you for brainz at yore house. No worry to skedule schedlue plan… we’re freee anytime. We’ll find you.”

    • Look at PvZ 1. It’s been released on every single platform known to man. Popcap have a terrible business model (as far as innovation goes), where only like 10% of their dev teams worrk on new content while the rest work on porting games to other systems.

It won’t really be an app, it’s more of a budget game that you’ll be pressured to buy for every piece of electronic equipment you own. I’m hoping they make a version for my toaster.

    • An app… an APP? *puts on Hipster glasses*
This thing was on Steam a year before it was ported to apps, and the app version is inferior. Bah. An app, he says…
That’s like those godamn kids who think I’m talking about the animated series when I talk about the ‘OLD’ Batman TV show.

  • Wonder if it will release on every platform from the get go, or will they be drip fed over the course of a year or more…

  • I bought the 360 version of this even though i already owned the PC and had it on my ipod simply due to the co-op and versus mode where you could control zombies. I would be bitterly disappointed if this mode did not make an appearance on all platforms.

  • My favorite thing about the hyoadils? MAKING COOKIES lots of cookies. Cookies that I ONLY bake during the hyoadils. I try to be creative during the year (even managed to bake a couple of new kinds THIS year), but for Christmas I start scouring the magazines and cookbooks to see what new kinds I can put on my cookie platters. woo hoo! THIS year I see I should be considering putting cute tags and labels on my platters! Gotta get busy! Only 124 days till Christmas!
