We need less dubstep, and more 80’s/90’s rock 😉
I miss turning on the radio and listening to actual bands. Who play instruments instead of auto-tuned solo or group “artists”
-
70’s & 80’s and you have a deal! Also throw in Thrash Metal whilst we’re there.
i was writing a book but what really disheartened when I found that my completely original concept already existed somewhere else.
i hate nicki minaj and lady gaga with a passion!!!
-
ummmmmm this was a reply to Aleph-Null’s comment , donno y it poped up here
Question for those who have seen the new Spiderman movie. Okay to take a 4 year old to? She loved the Raimi ones and has been bugging me to take her to this one.
-
Um i think its okay. its pretty mild.
-
Little bit darker than the previous ones, but not Batman dark. I think it’d be okay, but I’d hate to be proven wrong. :S I think the spectacle of it would appeal to a kid, the hidden depth might go unnoticed.
-
Raimi ones are pretty cartoonish in comparison too. (Though still good, don’t get me worng. :P)
-
My daughter is fairly switched on when it comes to movies. Her favourite movies are the Jurassic Park ones (I know I know, terrible father). They scare the bejesus out of her but she Is smart enough to realise it’s not real and can’t hurt her.
I let her watch a fair bit. Gore, torture and sex are the no no’s that I wot expose her to yet, but most everything else she seems pretty capable of processing without any problems.
-
Her favourite movies are the Jurassic Parks? Coolest kid ever. None of my friends liked JP when I was a kid 😛
-
I’d call you a good father, actually. My folks let me watch a lot more than kids my age and I appreciated that. Kids are probably more perceptive than we give them credit for too. To this day some of my favourite childhood memories were seeing movies with my Mum rated M and MA — Speed, Die Hard with a Vegeance and the like…
-
-
-
Hm, I think it should be ok. There’s not really much violence besides punching and such. Maybe the Lizard might be a bit scary? I don’t know 😛
Point is, I don’t think it’s any worse than the first Spiderman movies.
So what is everyones favourite tv show? I will list my top ten
Sherlock
The Wire
Game of Thrones
Breaking Bad
Rome
Mad Men
Sopranos
Arrested Development
Deadwood

ohhhh the pressure
ummm off the top of my head:
Community
Scrubs
Arrested development
Dexter
Walking Dead
Adventure Time
Regular Show
30 Rockaaaaaaaaand thats all i can think of now without going into anime…
-
I keep hearing mixed things about Walking Dead. I am obsessed with the graphic novels though.
-
First episode is good, first season is okay, second season is a complete waste of time.
-
-
-
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Alias
Firefly
The West Wing
Mad Men
Lost
Battlestar Galactica
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Game of Thrones
and know there’s more, so I’ll only list nine. Give me room to add some later. 😛-
Also if you’re not watching, check out The Newsroom. Starts on SoHo on Foxtel next month. Classic Sorkin, it’s got an agenda but wears it on its sleave. There’s a sense of idealism too, which I’ve missed since The West Wing ended.
-
-
Sons of Anarchy
Breaking Bad
Community
Supernatural
Burn Notice
Fringe
White Collar
Archer
Top Gear
Various comedies such as 2 Broke Girls, Big Bang, How I Met Your Mother etc. But don’t watch those as often.
That list isn’t in an particular order.-
Fringe! How could I forget that. I love it so damn much.
-
-
No TV show will ever reach the dizzying heights of “Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush” so I don’t bother.
-
Ha! I was in Melbourne last year and I am pretty sure I saw Tim Ferguson outside Crown.

I love westerns, always wanted to check out Deadwood, but haven’t had the chance. I also hear that they were screwed out of giving the show a proper finale, which makes me sad.
-
Deadwood is great, well worth it!
-
-
Hmm, lets see;
Breaking Bad
Burn Notice
Sons of Anarchy
Mad Men
Six Feet Under
Doctor Who
Fast N’ Loud
Dexter
Futurama
Mythbusters-
and I forgot to add Boardwalk Empire, Sons of Guns, The Walking Dead & Metal Evolution
-
Six Feet Under is in my ‘pile of shame’ of TV shows, fully expect to love it but just haven’t had the opportunity to watch.
-
I started it last week, it’s great. Already on to season 2, worth watching. It was on my pile of shame for years, and I finally decided to get around to watching it at long last!
-
I love it when that happens, you get access to the show and fly through the seasons like a crazy person. Consumes your life until you’re caught up. Good feeling. 😀
-
Hell yeah 😀 I did that with Mad Men & Boardwalk Empire this year, so worth it!
-

So I generally avoid these kinds of conversations, as I “don’t watch TV” – at least that’s what I keep telling everyone. Truth is, the TV is actually on, and I do sometimes watch the sprites in action. However, I really can’t see myself taking time out of playing video games to watch a tv show.
And it’s not that I think these shows are boring or badly made; on the chance I do see bits and piece of Game of Thrones or Sherlock or Parks and Rec, they all seem like pretty cool shows. People keep giving me DVDs of whatever show they are watching because they think I’m holding out. I just never even drop the DVD in, I end up handing it back to them, or passing it on to someone else. Some friends have even taken to sitting me down to watch the first few episodes with them, and I do, and I enjoy what I see, but I never follow up by watching the rest of the show. Sometimes they get “offended” that I just ignore the show.
I guess my favourite show would be Futurama. There was once a time when I did watch tv shows, Futurama was one of the few I would tune in every week to catch the newest episode. I’ve watched the origina series’ so many times that I can just put some episodes on in the background and it doesn’t matter if I’m paying attention or not; I can come in halfway through a story, or at the punchline of a joke, and know whats going on, and have a chuckle.
Sherlock
Tron Uprising
Star Wars The Clone Wars
Horrible Histories
The Looney Toons Show (the new one)
Top Gear (UK)
Mythbusters
Once Upon A Time
In no particular order:
Game of Thrones
Mad Men
Breaking Bad
Wire in the Blood
Sherlock
How I Met Your Mother
Firefly
Transformers G1
Dragonball
Dragonball Z
Castle
Blackadder
Dad’s Army
and probably more.
HAI GUYS!
Are any of you a size Large?
I won a treasure box from Gametraders, and in it was a Jinx Starcraft 2 Terran Marine Tee, Size large. Being between an XS and a S, depending on brand, this wouldn’t fit me in a billion years.
Would any of you guys like it? 🙂
My pledge to buy no more games at the moment fell flat when Harvey Norman had Saints Row 3 and Battlefield 3 for $16… i bought both and picked them up on the weekend.. 🙁
Damn feeble mind…
-
Marine imba.
If only I was fat and played Terran.
-
Can I have the t-shirt?
I’m size large. -
I’m large…. In more ways than one *wink*
Herrow! This place looks so so different
-
What the … are you sure you’re in the right place?
-
This is twitter, right?
-
Maybe. I’m not sure anymore. You’ve gone and changed anything. I guess we’ll know once I hit 140 characters and if it cuts off then we’ll kn

-
Where’s Anna’s Quest, damn it!?!
Also, hey man. Welcome back. 😛
-
Tanks! Actually, its neeeaaaaaarly there
-
Good to hear! Way to go, man!
-
-
-
HI NEW PERSON!
-
Hey *tries to remember name* …you.
😛 -
Who’s this guy?
I was sick with the flu.
I’m getting better.
I also met up with Shiggy on Saturday and went location scouting for the movie which went exceptionally well. We even found an outdoor power outlet! Not that I’d risk using it…
Then I went to buy comics and ended up browsing next to some weird guy with a ginger afro.
Then he turned and I was all “Cakesmith?” and it was he. So we chatted.
Then I went home.
Good times!
-
USE IT! Free power while filming is the best.
-
hope you are feeling better doctor.
did you yell out cake in town hall train station for 20 minutes? -
FREE POWER TO THE MASSES!
I cannot wait for shooting to begin!
Except i need to get fit!
/RIDES OFF IN A WHEELBARROW
wheee!
I wonder how many people are going to post stuff like “OMG a full article!” on Own’s post about being sick. Or, complain about how it’s not relevant enough to video games…
-
-
Bish. You are a terrible person and I like it.
-
Morning TAYters. I’m horribly sick due to Tonsillitis still which I didnt realise could cause this much pain and cold like symptoms.
In good news though despite not playing for a two weeks and being sick I was still able to play BF3 (rather well actually I’ve played worse) so my team took our first win of the MWAVE (cash prize) tourney and we’re looking good atm for making the finals.
Done no shameless gaming all month so judge me as you will.
As for TV shows, I dont watch alot but
Black Adder
One Piece
Danger 5
and then the rest are all equal. Walking Dead, Family Guy, Ms Browns Boys, etc
I figure it’s about time I start mentioning the Pyrean/Gorzy housewarming and Stevo meet again
Saturday 11th August In Parramatta
at the moment I’m suggesting people aiming for around 3 or 4 pm but we’ll be home all day so earlier isn’t a problem either.
I’m trying to avoid posting our address on an open website so email me for details!
gorzilla(dot)au(at)gmail[dot]com
Also, being at a house with limited room an idea of how many people are thinking of showing up would be good so I can work out somewhere we can relocate to if we run out of room.
Pyrean or I will be able to pick people up from the train station (or other places, train station seems like the most likely spot though) for people having trouble with transport.
If anyone will need space to sleep the night let me know in an email as well, or any special dietary requirements (note: Alcohol is not a dietary requirement [excluding Stevo])
-
Special dietary requirements are meant to be for deviations from the norm. Obviously alcohol doesn’t fit under that banner.
-
Hey Parra is really close by for me. But I dont think Ill be attending. (I still feel new and shy here)
-
WAIT
I can call you “AEF” to your face????
You must come to the Meat, AEF!
We will have the best introduction!
-
-
HAhahaha that is awesome, I am pretty sure I could almost walk home from this thing. But yeah I will make an effort to be present!
-
We mention it all the time on Potaku. You should listen!
-
I have heard it! You guys made the first official announcement the first time it was mentioned 😛 before that I’d just kida suggested it to people on teamspeak.
-
-
I am from MT Druitt….just saying :l
Hey TAYbies!
I promised myself that I would get up early today… and I only got out of bed at 11am… 🙁
-
Tire yourself out, go to bed at 8:30 pm — then you’ll wake up too early. It’s for you own good, man. 😛
-
And then I’ll be watching the Olympics all night… win-win. 😀
-
Dang Nabbit! Mark keeps talking about how amazing Dark Soul’s is, in his SGM articles which makes me REALLY want to play it. MUST … HOLD … OUT … UNTIL … DLC … RELEASE.
Just watched the store owner shoo away 14 (yes, fourteen) dogs from the entrance to his shop. Poor bastard.
In other news, Aleph found replacement lunch!
-
You’re having those 14 dogs for lunch? D:
-
Has anyone seen my dog?
-
I hear Dalmatians make a great soup
-
Were they Pomeranians?
-
this is the best reply thread evar
-
Page Two: brought to you by eating dogs!
-
BAHAHAHAHA! Oh god, I really should have put more thought into that… No, I have a crappy “meat” pie (I say “meat” because the “meat” is of questionable “meat”iness. Not because I’m knowingly ingesting dogmeat.) for lunch, which leaves me bitter and slightly ill.
I want my tofu T.T -
Free range dogs are great. People say you can’t taste the difference, but I disagree.
Yay for packages in the mail \o/
-
Not to be confused with someone’s “package” in the mail…
Which is never a good thing… -
you sly dog, 4 in one day.
-
What?
-
(Just some Studio Ghibli BDs actually)
-
JUST!? That’s pretty much like, one of the best packages possible to receive. Ghibli on bluray is so divine.
-
IT is pretty amazing stuff, i dislike ponyo because i think the story is a little shitty. But them blu-ray visuals are like heaven on the eyes.
-
I only use Ponyo as a example because i have most of the other ghibli titles on DVD like a chump.
-
GAAAAASP! Ponyo is… is AMAZING! It’s such a beautiful story about children. You heartless monster!
-
-
I liked Ponyo but I didn’t find it that amazing either. I’d actually say I preferred the animation in Arrietty. It blends digital and traditional animation far better, probably because the director is younger and from an animation background so better versed in the use of digital techniques. Ponyo is distracting to me in how ‘busy’ it is all the time.
Most looking forward to getting Mononoke & Spirited Away on BD. And also hoping the JP Porco release has the French dub on it.
-
-
Thus why my shelf has every Ghibli BD currently available. Except Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies. Which incidentally are in this package.
(Also volume 2 of Eureka Seven AO but that’s not as important).
I’m hoping they step up the releases a bit though. Will be interesting to see what they release next. Early on it seemed they were going chronological, then they suddenly released Whisper of the Heart and Arietty, then jumped right forward and did Earthsea, Ponyo & Howl, and now they’ve gone back to the earliest unreleased stuff so no idea what’s next. If they go chronologically in pairs from this point it’d be Kiki and Only Yesterday next, then Porco & Ocean Waves, Pom Poko & Mononoke, and Spirited Away & The Cat Returns to round it out. One Miyazaki and one non-Miyazaki each pair, seems to make sense but it’s hard to tell. Also at the rate they’re releasing them, it’s possible that Takahata’s upcoming Tale of the Bamboo Cutter would be in there too. SO EXCITED TO SEE WHAT’S NEXT.

Aleph only 99 posts, that doesn’t look right!
-
I am a mere shadow of what I once was.
Someday, somehow, I’m gonna make it alright, but not right now. (Oh god, KILL ME!)
-
-
Back in the top 10. First time in a long time \o/
-
#11? That’s a first for me. Didn’t realise I’d been that active here!
Well, thinking about applying for the police force has gone to actually doing it. Being given a date for testing today. From what they are describing it sounds very similar to QLDs STAT exam for uni entrance. Even knowing I got in the 98th percentile on that exam I’m still worried about screwing up this one.
-
What is your name?
What is your quest?
What is your favourite colour?-
Your quest? Like, King’s Quest?
-
Blue. No red!
AAAAAAAH
-
Yelloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow*
-
I need to watch the holy grail again
-
-
-
“that’s easy!”
-
-
Best of luck man! Do you know what position you’d actually be after within the force?
-
Assuming he’d start as a Constable.
-
Cadet at the academy for a few months then a First Year Constable.
-
-
Oh man that’s awesome, all the best 😀
-
Try not to get corrupt with power…
(Don’t mind me and my irrational distrust of authority figures. :P)
So, my home internet has been utterly borked since Wednesday last week. Internet withdrawals! Ack!
Hoping it’ll be fixed some time this week.
*sob*
-
Pick a movie in the morning, and watch it at night.
That will take your mind off of the internet.-
I’ve been watching my shiny new Star Wars Blurays, and the DVD boxset of Dad’s Army that I got for my dad.
-
Very nice. 🙂
-
Indiana Jones is out next month on Blu-Ray, spread the word!
-
In a box set or individually? (very important because I don’t want the Crystal Skull anywhere near my person) And has Lucas fucked with the levels and everything so that the dynamic range is all compressed and the colour’s way off the way he did with the original Star Wars trilogy?
-
Hahaha! Yeah reminds me of when I picked up the spiderman trilogy on blu. I still look at that and think ohhhh I have a copy of 3 in my house… my collection feels so tainted.
-
Likewise for Jurassic Park 3. Damn you, box sets.
-
-
Apparently Spielberg supervised the restoration of Raiders, but that’s all I know. Day one buy for me, even with Cyrstal Skull. (Which has redeemable qualities, if you look hard enough. Cate Blanchett for one!)
-
Spielberg let Lucas make the Crystal Skull. I question his judgement.
Still as long as the video isn’t all artificially darkened / shifted / fucked with like Star Wars. Lucas apparently doesn’t even notice that he’s done stuff like made Vader’s Saber go pink or lost all the stars in the star fields…
-
-
He digitally inserted Short Round into every second scene of all four movies and gave him several new catch phrases along with canned laughter.
-
“No time for love, Dr Jones” is one of my favourite lines in the trilogy, so pfffft…
-
Did I mention he is now also one of the crystal skull aliens?
-
I assumed he was already. 😛
-
*shoots self*
-
You joke but I could totally see Lucas doing shit like that.
-
So what’s everyone listening to today?
At the moment I have some Exodus playing \o/ for Thrash Metal!
-
Hanson’s Shout It Out.
-
Cat Powerrrrr! It leaked today. It’s… different.
-
More Regina Spektor ^.^
Looking for some decent aussie hip hop though, I’m running low!
Morning everyone!
Looks at time
Aftertoon everyone!
All my gaming this past weekend was mainly spent playing WoW. I thought, MoP’s only two months away and I haven’t even raided Dragon Soul or done any of those new Caverns of Time 5 mans, so I jumped on my mage and spend the weekend grinding dungeons and getting gear so my ilvl is now above 372 (it’s at 373), which means I can now queue up in the LFR, which I’ll be doing sometime today.
I also spent some time playing Jade Empire. I played it once when I was a kid (never finished it) and had forgotten a lot of what happened but as I play through it again it’s all slowly coming back to me.
So, how bout dem Olympics? What did everyone think of the opening ceremony and has anyone being watching the events? I thought the start of the opening ceremony with the industrial revolution and the forging of the rings was cool. That thing with the NHS and giant Voldemort was a bit silly and that thing with the missing mobile was stupid. Music choices could have been better. Also, no Doctor Who? No David Tennant? What the heck, England? Hopefully he’ll make an appearance in the closing ceremony.
As for the games themselves, I’ve just had them on while I’ve been grinding in WoW or just generally browsing the internet. Gymnastics has been the most fun to watch, as always. I also watched the mens cycling on day 1. 250k or something, pretty impressive. Weird sport though. It was interesting to listen to the commentators talk about the different strategies the riders were using.
-
Ooh, I’ve been watching the Olympics! Me! o/
Though I still haven’t watched the opening ceremony 😛
-
I uhh, glanced at the Olympics, and saw someone who I went to high school with, with made me feel even more pathetic.
But her team(The Hockeyroos) lost, so it’s all good.
@Virus_ & Aleph-null re previous page:
I reject utterly the idea that we’re running out of music. It’s like saying we’re running out of waves in the sea.
-
We’re not running out of music hell no. We’re just running out of artists being innovative. Rather than take a gamble it would seem they’re sticking with what will make them the most money, which is fine, but it doesn’t define them from the others they’re being the same as.
-
The music you hear on the radio, perhaps. Artists continue to innovate, and we’re at a point in history where more of that innovation is available to listeners than ever before due to the internets.
-
-
Music will continue to be fashioned as an artistic expression of experience, so long as humans retain the ability to listen, and to feel. This will never change.
Music, and art itself, is cyclical. Much like political history, much akin to climate change.
Just like climate change, we’re in a stage now wherein we’re being flooded with “new”, when really it’s just more of the same. I’m just waiting for the next ice-age 😀
Weeee interview really soon. I’m one of “those guys” today cause I’m wearing a suit thingy at Uni. Feels weird bro.
-
Atleast you’re not doing it for pretentious reasons, the Creative Industries block at QUT always had its fair share of ’em. 😛
-
Law and business at UQ were bad too.
-
-
(Good luck too, man. You’ll do awesome!)
-
Cheers! But maybe I am doing it for pretentious reasons! (I’m not)
-
-
-
Unfortunately not 🙁
-
-
Good luck greenius. Go in there and slay them. (not litterally). 🙂
-
Cheers Pip!
-
-
Hmm it went okay (I think) so we’ll see what happens :P. The next stage of interviews is next week so I’ll find out soon enough.
I didn’t think I’d get this far anyway so this was good enough 😀
-
Wearing suits to Uni is weird, man. I had to do it for some presentations I had to do.
I tried not to strut while walking between rooms, but it was inevitable.
-
I said “had to do” twice and it looks weird 😛
Anyway, glad to hear it went alright!
-
I’m tempted to switch out my trusty Logitech MX518. I like the look of the Steelseries mice. They’re basically the same shape as the Microsoft ones that I used to love (and still use at work) but the fact that I can only find the Kana at local stores is starting to bug me.
If I went for Steelseries, I think I’d have to buy the Sensei, with two buttons on each side. I’m too used to using both the buttons on the right and I would prefer to gain mouse buttons for other nefarious uses.
Who would have thought buying a mouse would involve thought?
-
But the MX518 has badass ‘bullet hole’ effects
-
Go back in time and get a Logitech G9x
-
I’m glad my old MX Revo at work still works. Nothing else I’ve used fits my hand quite as well.
-
I don’t know why a time machine is necessary, those are easy to find.
-
Our work proxy does not like iTunes. This would not be a problem if it wasn’t for the fact that some of the people here have work issued iPads.
I’ve been trying to restore one of those all day but got nowhere because the proxy killed the connection to iTunes while I was trying to do it.
Damned fancy technology. Should just get everyone an abacus.
-
-
There’s nothing an abacus can’t do.
Nothing.
-
And they don’t need iTunes.
Fuck iTunes.
-
I think I love you.
-
-
-
I’ve heard of this new fangled technology called a “calculator”. I consider it witchcraft but it might be something you’re interested in.
Great. Just get to the movies to buy tickets and realise I’ve left my glasses at home.
-
Aaannnd theres literally only 2 other people in the cinema and they are sitting in our seats. I know it’s not an issue but still.
-
Sit right behind them so they feel really uncomfortable.
-
Anyone getting Borderlands 2 for the 360?
-
Getting for PC. With the dog chest.
-
Woo! Daschund chest edition!
-
When I finally get around to moving out into my own place I intend to get a (new) cat. Relevance should be obvious.
-
I intend to get a fluffy white cat so that I can recline on an executive chair while stroking it and pretend to be a Bond villain.
-
-
-
PC
-
-
PS3 for me

I am, Hugo!
Zombie Movie Update
We’re shooting on 25th and 26th of August. Anyone who wants in, just message me or send me an email.
We need as many people dressed as zombies as we can get on the Sunday! PLEASE HELP!
-
In Sydney I assume?
-
North Sydney to be exact! But yes. Sorry.
-
You know what sucks?
Only having two hash browns left.
You know what doesn’t suck?
Making Cheesy Salt & Vinegar Hash browns with those two hash browns.
…
Now I’m hungry again… 🙁
I went into JB expecting to buy a headset and leave with the first 3 seasons of Breaking Bad on blu-ray. How did the even happen? Oh well, successbaby.JPEG
-
Did you end up getting the headset?
-
Nope
-
BUT WE NEED TO HEAR YOUR “WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY”s
-
-
-
Most japanese RPGs don’t have breast physics. That’s the action games. The money’s actually all spent on hair rendering.
-
Yes, yes it is….
Week 2 of unemployment .
Updated resume and sent to a friend at a well known company.
started looking at the market.
Bought myself a gift for coping with last week and not regressing into mountain man…
recieved tax return.
Feeling accomplished today 🙂
I have done well I believe
-
I sent you an email! That will help keep you amused!
@ Crazyguy
Shoot me an email to troy(dot)cleary(at)hotmaildotcom and i’ll organise the Tee shirt for you 🙂
-
e-mail sent!
This afternoon seems to be dragging on quite a bit.
Also, I want to whinge about the fact that our office bathroom is now exclusively stocking single-ply toilet paper. SINGLE PLY!
On the plus side, I haven’t seen that damned mangy dog all day. \o/
How’s everyone’s days going?
-
Single ply? Surely that violates OH&S regulations and possibly the geneva convention?
Not to mention it’s false economy since you end up using three times as much.
-
I thought about raising this with the powers that be, though the last time someone did that… well, let’s just say that Blend 43 is fine by me, yessirree. You won’t see me complaining to the management about ANYTHING.
Best employee!
\o/
-
-
Managed to keep your lunch down then I take it?
-
I still don’t know what was in that pie, but hey. You live here for a year, you’ll have an iron stomach too 😉
-
Spiderman was pretty cool.
Lizard Man terrified my 4 year old daughter but she refused to leave and seemed to really like it otherwise.
-
Possibly why it’s rated M for Mature?
Also: Spider-Man. The hyphen is important!
A bird flew into my face at lunchtime. Just thought I’d let you guys know.
I’m not hurt, luckily 😛
-
Was it that bird that flew out of my fireplace?
I hear he gets around. -
What did you do to the Universe, Lambo? Why is it out to get you?
-
I hope the bird was cooked properly or who knows what myriad of diseases will be inflicted upon you.
-
Lambo; Proof that Karma is indeed a vindictive, unassuming and ultimately omnipotent bitch.
I’ve never seen someone so accident-prone, it can’t be coincidence. The cosmic forces just hate you :S
-
I basically have a mental image of him that’s like the cliche clumsy anime schoolgirl that constantly trips over and sets things on fire and stuff.
-
That just made me think of Kisaragi from Elfen Lied. But I don’t want that to happen to Lambo 🙁
-
-
Man, so glad this day is wrapping up. I feel like I’m going to go to sleep…
Is anyone else playing The Secret World?
It feels to me like there is a distinct shortage of tanks. I rolled a healer as part of my usual “play something that gets into groups easily”. That seems now like a great way to be in a group with 3 DPS spamming “LF tank”. (as an aside, the whole “no class/no level” thing of the secret world seems dodgy when there is such a rigid tank-3 DPS-healer model for the dungeons, itemization is so rigid that there’s really no such thing as an off-healer or an off-tank,bosses are immune to most fancy-dan utility stuff and so many abilities are flat out awful that it channels people to the same stuff as they get the points for it).
I’m enjoying the game for the story and atmosphere, but I can’t see myself sticking with it once I complete the story.
Incidentally, if you’re getting bored in Solomon Island and thinking that ability points take ages to earn, early Egypt is very easy and the XP for doing the simplest fetch quest is ENORMOUS. Coming from Blue Mountain Egypt is like Candyland. There’s something severely wrong in the reward-difficulty balance in Blue Mountain.
-
The sooner MMOs break out of the Tank/Heal/DPS trinity the better IMO.
-
GW2? 🙂
-
From what I’ve played of it, nope, not really. Might help if it didn’t feel so clunky. Regret paying for that game without trying it first so much, enormous waste of money.
What I personally see in the future is something more action-oriented, along the lines of Tera, where you don’t heal through damage, you mitigate against it by dodging / parrying / blocking correctly, exposing weaknesses or holes in timing for other players to hit etc. Some limited healing through consumables or abilities plus some amount of regen over time, but generally most encounters would be a battle of attrition and concentration rather than a DPS race.
-
Would probably require a more instance-oriented approach a la guild wars / PSO though. Have to be careful not to make it all feel like a ghost town like SWTOR. That game always felt so lonely, because of the way the world is all disconnected chunks. WoW still has the most cohesive-feeling world IMO.
-
Well I still would keep in mind a few things:
1. Beta is beta, meaning it could always end up changing
2. It’s probably clunky cuz of lag from you being Australia based, but again… beta. -
Wasn’t lag, it was actual clunk. Weird interface, abilities that are poorly defined and appeared to have no real appreciable effect or difference, no idea whether I was meant to have a rotation or just be hitting the next hotkey… plus the fact that I’m absolutely done with hotkey-based MMOs now.

-
Woo got my tax back, which meant I got my Thunderbird bass off laybuy and my Leatherman Skeletool came in the post! and it’s only Monday!
-
And pre-ordered Borderlands 2 from GreenManGaming for $50, not bad I thought.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOO! It’s $40 with a 20% off code :P. Hopefully you can cancel and re-order it 🙂
PARTP-ALCNO-TIESU

Craaaaap, email away!
Thanks for the heads up!

I misread that so I was thinking you had ordered this

Ahahaha almost!

Thats my new baby
-
Double crap, now everyone knows my real name….
-
Don’t stress, it is at the bottom of the page, nobody reads these comments
-
-
Well it is no Tracey island, but that is a very nice looking bass
-
-
-
Oh man.. I wish I could afford a real Thunderbird best I have is a Epiphone Korean made Thunrderbird, still sounds pretty good, but nothing on the Gibson model. Oh how I want one.
What you gonna be plugging that beast into? 😀
Hey, so like, my internet is totally going to like, be fast again like, this week.Fabulous!
So like, I’m wondering if like, any of you hot bitches want to like, survive the zombie like, hordes, y’know, with me at some point like, later on.
You like, keen?
-
By like, zombie hordes, I totally like mean L4D2 for like, the playdate.
But more like, for DayZ at like, some point. -
Ow, my brain :s
I have twice as many PSP games on my PS Vita as I own PS Vita games. 🙁
-
Aren’t most of them re-purchases anyway? 😛
I was going to post a new comment but I’ll put it here. I preordered both Graces f (again) and Ni No Kuni Wizard Edition from Zavvi on the weekend :). If there’s any further info on Ni No Kuni let me know (cheaper places, local releases etc.).
I know with the Wizard Edition I think it’s exclusive to the NAMCO shop in America and they’re doing a “ninostarter” thing. They’ll add more bonuses to the Wizard Edition depending on how many people pre-order it from there. I think they’re only adding them to the US edition at the moment which is a bummer 🙁
-
Persona 2 & 3, Yggdra Union, TitS and Tactics Ogre were re-buys. Corpse Party, Lunar, Riviera, FF Tactics, Fate/Extra, Ys Seven & Persona were all new purchases. I’m also going to grab Growlanser IV and Unchained Blades when they’re up on PSN, and hopefully also grab Black Rock Shooter assuming NISA still do release it in the end.
PSP was such a good platform 🙁 I’d totally re-buy several more of my games if I could but they’re not on PSN.
-
The fact that there’s still at least a dozen great PSP games which will never make it to an English translated release thanks to Sony throwing the system under the bus outside Japan is really sad, incidentally. I look at those Summon Night games, the rest of Trails in the Sky and the other Kiseki games, FF Type-0, Valkyria 3, Grand Knights History, Sakura Taisen 1&2 and the list goes on and on, and I am saddened.
NEED TO LEARN THE MOONRUNES
-
-
Ni No Kuni! Blargherfraghergh, gonna be so good!
-
@Aleph “Kisaragi from Elfen Lied” is that something I’m going to regret googling? I vaguely remember hearing something about Elfen Lied being really violent, I think?
-
No idea what’s this about but in terms of images, no. It’s just some girl (not nude or bloody or anything bad). In terms of info around her (which might be violent, sexual) I can’t say since I didn’t read anything 🙂
-
Clumsy secretary that gets decapitated. I’m not sure if that’s actually who he was meaning or not.
-
The show, however, is incredibly violent and sexualised i.e. it involves (literally) naked girls ripping people’s limbs off with their mind. So don’t google image search at work I guess? :V
-
To be fair some children get horribly violent in it as well. Then they help repaint the class room….
-
That scene was easily the most shocking part of it. Those damned kids had it coming.
-
-
-
-
I more meant the “clumsy secretary” part, not the “gets decapitated in the first episode” part 🙁
She was comic relief up ’til then, but her death wasn’t meaningless. That much, we do know.Elfen Lied was probably more violent than Gantz, but in terms of story etc, I absolutely loved it. If you’re not into violent/sexualised (I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s perverted or hentai, it’s just not for kids. It’s not like we’re talking about Urotsukidoji* here, haha!) anime, then it’s probably not for you.
*If you’re not comfortable with stupidly sexualised violence, don’t google Urotsukidoji.
-
I thought it was… (Its been ages since I watched the show so I dont remember everything)
-
-
I’ve watched a couple scenes of the show on youtube. It seems pretty cool. I loved the start were she escapes from that facility place.
-
Soooo good man, definitely worth watching!
-
Has anyone else ever watched Carl Sagen’s The Cosmos?
-
Sagan. I have Cosmos on DVD. It should be required viewing for kids in science class IMO.
They’re apparently doing a refreshed, updated version some time next year, with Neil deGrasse Tyson to host in place of Carl (since it’s pretty hard for him to do it himself now 🙁 )
-
Ah my mistake. But I agree I would of loved to see those in early Highschool.
-
-
Carl Sagan? You mean the guy who burnt down the Hill Valley speakeasy? 😛
I’ve seen one of the DVDs I got out from the library once. I can’t remember any of it though…
WASSSSAAAAAP?!!!
-
HAI JIMU LONG TIME, how you been?!
Seriously, how’s fings???
-
I am playing Pokemon Conquest.
True story, would tell again.-
Stop stealing my stories!
-
I’m playing a BW mod trying to actually complete the pokedex (eventually). Never even come close before. Usually because I has no friends to trade with. But this mod gets by all that by making all 649(?) available in game, changing the evolution req’s etc etc. But damn if those legendaries aren’t hard to find. Most of them only appear on one route, only in shaking grass and even then they only have a 1% chance of being found.
-
Mitsunari Ishida reminds my friends and I of David Bowie. So we just call him David Bowie.
-
-
I remember telling you about Ni No Kuni on Twitter ages ago but if you didn’t know, they have a super awesome “Wizard’s Edition” with some cool extras :).
If this is true *sigh*
http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4311264
-
Explain it to me like I’m 5? 😛
Something something Ubisoft something something DRM…
-
I also got “something something hacked something”, but yeah, this was my response too
-
Rootkit.
Basically it installs allows hackers access to highly secure content( i.e. Important system files) on your computer, if it is ever hacked.
It’s basically doing what the Starforce DRM used to do.
Wow, anyone remember that Starforce debacle?
If not, here’s some info:
http://www.glop.org/starforce/
-
-
Pretty soon they’ll be called We-Screw-U-bisoft.
-
It should be illegal to install 2 forms of DRM.
If you got your game from steam, you shouldn’t need to have it run Uplay or GFWL or any other stupid launcher. -
It should be illegal to install 2 forms of DRM.
If you got your game from steam, you shouldn’t need to have it run Uplay or GFWL or any other stupid launcher.
-
-
Yeah, just read it too. Essentially, it means that UPlay adds an extension to your web browser essentially allowing potential unauthorised access to executables already located on the local machine.
I assume that it’s designed to allow the launch of UPlay affiliated games from within your browser perhaps, although there’s no “UPlay ONLY” restrictions set on it, thus the issue.Forgive me if I’m wrong though, as I’m certainly not sec-minded enough to completely understand. Either way, Ubisoft is going to need to respond to this fairly quickly.
Depending on your browser, there’s multiple ways to disable the extension. I’d suggest searching for how to do so before going any further.-
Ahh, here we go, for Firefox users out there, a bug report has been submitted, hopefully this’ll go on an extension blacklist with the next update.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=778686 -
I see, I see. Kinda… 😛 So the worry is what exactly? That unauthorised websites can activate files/viruses/whatnot on your computer?
I don’t own any Ubisoft/UPlay games so I’m not worried, but that’s pretty bad of them.
-
Yeah, pretty much.
-
It means that whoever has access to the extension, has access to your files/programs/attached data.
To go deeper, that means personal information, credit card/bank details, not to mention the folder containing questionable material that you most certainly thought you deleted months ago 😉It’s a big snafu, and one that’s not to be scoffed at. Whilst I believe it was an unintentional mistake, it’s a big one. I’ll be wary of purchasing from Ubi any time soon, and warier still of installing the current games I own.
-
-
God dammit Youtube. Stop changing everything.
I’ve been bitching on Twitter about this but I thought I’d share things here too. Youtube is dropping another layout change and basically turning your subscription feed into a mass of recommended videos.
If I wanted to watch recommended videos, I would look at the sidebar next to the subscription videos I want to watch.
This is what it looks like now. This is as good as I could get it too, originally is showed all activity from everyone I was subscribed to. All the likes, comments, favourites and whatever.
I don’t want that. I just want videos. How does Youtube not get this?
Luckily, you can click on the “My Subscriptions” thing on the left (under Recommended) which will take you to a straight subscription feed with just the uploads.
Oh and if you’re wondering why I’m getting this layout changes, I think they get pushed out earlier for partners and whatnot . I’m not a Youtube partner but it has been offered to me a while ago. They probably don’t expect people to not immediately accept the chance to make money from uploads :p
Apparently there is a big spoiler in the dark night rises. I thought I’d save everyone the trouble and look it up for them.
BRUCE WAYNE IS BATMAN!
-
NO WAY!
-
Why Gorzy why?!
-
I’m practicing my evil so I can be the villain in the next movie!
-
-
Damn it, Gorzy! You’ve ruined EVERYTHING!
Cabin in the Woods was EXCELLENT. Overheard a lady say when it was finished “Well, that was two hours of my life I’ll never get back”
…WHAT? DID WE JUST SEE THE SAME MOVIE LADY? BECAUSE THAT WAS AWESOME.
-
One of the best movies I’ve seen in years. So much fun.
-
I hate sounding smug, but some people just don’t get what that film is. Which is a bit weird because I didn’t think it was all too subtle about it, but hey that’s just me.
That movie has some serious mood whiplash.
-
I wish it was playing somewhere a bit more local to me 😛 Us country bogans don’t want no limited release movies, it seems.
-
‘sup.
-
Whilst browsing the internet, I managed to find this article on Quake and its fifteen year history.
I highly recommend it:
http://www.1up.com/features/why-quake-changed-games-forever
-
Man good times playing Quake III Arena with my mates at TAFE. Which makes me sound old, but no this is like 2 years ago 😀
-
Did you just call me old? I’d slap you for that but I’m afraid the impact would cause my hip to break.
-
Oh Gorzy, i’m not exactly young honestly, but not old either =P
-
You’re so old Virus!
-
Sure am.

Jesus fuck. Anti-malware is hard enough without supposedly legitimate companies adding to the problem.
-
note to self: bbcode does not work. :\
I’ve been able to play some more of The Last Story and I’m really liking it. At the moment I’m just doing sidequests to avoid advancing the main story and every time I think I’ve run out of things to do and have to move on I find something else to do. It’s not an “awesome” game necessarily but is certainly a very good and enjoyable game.
Not sure how much I’ll be around here this week as I’m looking after my father-in-law who is recovering from a heart attack. He’s no trouble but being his sole carer during the day is pretty stressful so hopefully I’ll be able to squash some gametime in my day somewhere to relieve it.
-
That’s got to be stressful. Do what you’ve got to do and we’ll all be here when you get back!
Hope all is well and you get plenty of gaming time.
-
*Hugasaurus*
I hope his recovery goes smoothly
Morning! 🙂
-
Morning C-Guy! (I know it’s late, but I hate to see a cheery good
morning post go unanswered!)
So I got up at 6am this morning and noticed something odd. There was a large Amazon box by the front door. It definitely wasn’t there late last night and I’ve NEVER had a post delivery before 10am.
-
New magic teleportation delivery system? 😛
-
Or actually, maybe it was just that it had been delivered to a neighbour by mistake and they dumped it there for you?
-
I’m hoping for teleportation, but you’re probably right about the neighbour… Although, dropping it off at 5am still seems odd…
-
Sounds like Sughly’s post man has been lurking outside your house after dark…
-
lol
-
-
-
Get anything good?
-
Lots and lots of comic book trades!!!!!! \o/
Meanwhile I’ve got a package that hasn’t been delivered yet according to the tracking system, but has been at the post office since yesterday morning. 🙁
Today is the last day of Shameless Gaming. I’m rather tempted to knuckle down and finish Saints Row The Third tonight.
On the other hand, I don’t feel like rushing this game. Last night, I did maybe two story missions. The rest of the night was spent derping around in side missions. Assassinations and Heli Assaults are rather shit. The rest is good though. Particularly the ones involving blowing everything up.
-
Tank activity is best activity
-
You say that but the normal Mayhem is pretty amazing when you have infinite everything, many of which are explosive.
-
I’m not fond if Mayhem because at times there’s nearly nothing to destroy and I spend most of the time waiting for cars to come. Whereas tank is all pew pew pew, and it’s easy. I failed a co-op Mayhem once because we were around a hundred short 🙁
-
I just make sure that I have the wrath of the cops and a gang, then blow up fences while waiting for them to come back. Works a treat.
The tank one is almost too easy. Drive forward and shoot.
-
Yeah. Tank is really easy (though still fun!) Just drive down the side of the road building up combos on mailboxes and stuff while blowing stuff up. I finished one in a single combo yesterday haha
-
Yeah I didn’t really bother with that many activities I just did the easy and/or fun ones. Horribly tedious ones like Heli Assault just sucks :P, especially when the game glitches up like mine does :(.
-
I finished almost all of the Tank Mayhem ones I’ve done in a single combo. Often with quite a bit more than the target amount and plenty of time to spare :p
-
-
This. Just destroy whatever you can and keep your multiply up, the higher it is the better the chance of completing the mayhem.
-
-
Insurance Fraud is my favourite! Whee!
-
That’d surely be Lambo’s specialty!
I FINISHED NOTHING
-
I ONLY FINISHED ONE OF THE GAMES I BOUGHT IN THE STEAM SALE
#WINNING #CAPSLOCK #HIHARLI
I love heli assaults 😀 I need to finish the assassinations and whatever else in that part of the phone now, all that’s missing from me 100% completing the game.
We totally have a DayZ gang now!
-
By which I mean we have a group of people with gear.
We don’t have any coordination, but hey, details.-
Do you hang around in front of the juice bar and click your fingers menancingly at passerbys that interrupt your dice games?
-
We hide in the woods and watch as other survivors (Rocketman) get chased by zombies.
Pretty much the same thing.-
How long until you get your leather jackets?
-
We all need gillie suits.
-
-
-
How would one join in on said DayZ gangery? Is there an initiation one would need to go through first?
-
You hear them talk about that survivor who is running towards them with faction going (if he gets any closer i will shoot him. I was being chased by a zombie and my push to talk wouldn’t work. I couldn’t Alt-TAb without dying so i ran i circles and they were like if he gets closer kill him. i was screaming at my computer
NO NO NO DONT KILL ME YOU DICKS IM HOLDING A TOORCH .
-
Bahahahaha! Oh man, that sounded like fun 😛
-
It was tense as heck. I was scared of the zombie, dehydrated so my screen went monochrome, couldn’t see the guys even though they could see mee. Scared they would shoot and yelling at my computer. SO FUN though, i haven’t had such a tense moment in a video game in a long while.
-
-
We used to have a gang on Saturday, until some prick shot us while we were gutting a cow. We were sitting ducks on a hill side and he picked us off with some sort of rifle from a tower about 300m away. It was a rather disappointing way to die, arms deep in a cow.
-
Wait, how many did you have in your group? And did he kill you all?
-
we had 3.
Me, Beavwa and BlueMaxima
We were all standing around in the open, gutting a cow, feeling pretty powerful coz we had lots of guns and supplies.
He pretty much one shot BlueMaxima, by the time me and Beavwa started running I was already knocked out and bleeding rapidly.
Beavwa made it to safety and went hunting for the shooter, but since we didn’t know his exact location, he found Beavwa first…-
Gotta admit, as dickish as that is, it is fairly impressive someone can take down 3 survivors. Guess it shows no matter what, you are always in danger in Day Z.
-
We should have known something was up when we saw another survivor running from that location, weaving back and forth like they were dodging being shot.
Eh, easy to say in retrospect. -
Yeah bloody hindsight
-
-
Wooo!
Sniped from Cherno.
Good times.
LoL people!

That’s Battlecast Cho’gath right? If you look in the background (bottom leftish) of the splash art for the skin you can see battlecast urgot and a skarner. This most likely means that we will see a battlecast Skarner skin soon.
Here’s the splash art
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pXLsVqvlz1M/UBNTcyZJaKI/AAAAAAAACsA/ht15udGykdg/s1600/3pEHmh.jpg-
Well Cho’gath is the only one I haven’t got yet. And there’s a skarner one coming?! Hell yes!
I already got Battlecast Urgot, too bad he’s been nerfed to trash now.
-
That’s my new wallpaper now. I love when Riot makes a mech/machine Champion/skin, and that they’re so badass like this one is! 🙂
-
Do you have any secret shame movies? Something you love but people scoff at when you tell them?
I’ll start: Girl, Interrupted. One of my favourite movies.
Who’s next?
-
I didn’t mind Mean Girls… That was before Lohan became a train wreck
-
It was also written by Tina Fey. No shame in liking that movie.
-
I didn’t know this, but I do like Tina Fey, so YAY JUSTIFICATION!
-
-
She was a decent actress, raw potential. Always sucks when they decide drugs is better than legacy.
-
As it was for a lot of decent humans in the acting business sadly.
-
-
I was JUST in the process of saying Mean Girls 😛 Oh well, I’m not re-writing my comment:
Pretty much any movie that’s considered ‘for girls’ gets a scoff from some people. Things like The Princess Bride and Mean Girls. Anything animated (‘for kids’) also gets a scoff sometimes.
I’m not really ashamed to like them though, so I wouldn’t call them a secret shame.
-
True, I woudn’t have posted if I thought it was really shameful. 😛
-
Then that brings us to the question… What are you hiding that you’re truly ashamed of!?
*wild speculation*
-
-
If you don’t like The Princess Bride there’s something wrong with you.
-
I think most people just hear ‘Princess’ and ‘Bride’ and automatically assume it’ll be a terrible chick-flick. Their loss I suppose 😛
-
my parents wanted me to watch it, and i was like “NO WAY THAT SOUNDS LIKE A SISSY MOVIE”
then i watched it and was like, “holy shit”
-
-
I admit, I judged it on the title. A girl at Uni lectured me on how it’s pretty much the greatest thing of all time. Now I know. (Although she judged M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs as well. I insisted that she watched it, she did and freakin’ loved it.) We should all stop being judgemental fools. 😛
-
-
Princess Bride isn’t “for girls”.
It’s a deconstruction of the standard adventure fairy tale. That’s typically boy stuff, even if there is a heavy dose of the true love stuff.
I don’t think you guys quite get what movies are meant to be shameful. Princess Bride only counts if you know nothing about it but the name (which, oddly enough Dr Strangelove also seems to fall victim to).
-
Princess Bride and Dr Strangelove are both great, great movies.
-
When I first saw Dr Strangelove in Georgraphy (Idk why we watched it there) I didn’t realise it was a comedy and thought I was ment to take the film seriously.
-
-
People kept telling me is was a good movie, but nobody told me there was going to be kissing
-
I know nothing about Princess Bride but the name…
-
What’s wrong with Girl, Interrupted?
Crazy isn’t broken, it’s just you or me, amplified.
-
Oh, man. So good. Watched it for the first time when I was pretty lonely, messed up and an outcast. Could really relate.
Girl Interrupted was a great film. Even had Peggy from Mad Men!
Hmmmmm not really sure, I’m sure they are there
Do early Tom Cruise movies count, since he has gone loopy there seems to be a stigma associated with liking his films but I do still enjoy watching days of thunder and the like.
From the chick flick side I things I think that French Kiss is a great movie.
Also the greatest of geek shames, Sport films ;). I really enjoyed the blind side and can always watch youngblood.
-
I’ll maintain that Mission Impossible 1 and 4 are great films, as is a Few Good Men, Collateral and Rain Man.
-
I’m noticing a pattern in your shame haha
-
Oh wait nevermind, you were already discussing Tom. Errr… ahhh… hmmmm
-
-
-
Rain Man. I don’t get why people associate the behind-the-scenes antics of an actor with their on screen work, he’s pretty damn good in every thing he’s in.
Michael Bay’s Transformers, High School Musical 1,2&3
It’s not like I keep it a secret though 😛
-
I like The Rock and The Island, makes me feel dirty to know there’s two Bay films I love. 😛
-
I quite liked The Island, too! I did an essay on it in high school. No idea what the topic was though… ‘Splosions?
-
The Island has the fewest explosions of any recent Michael Bay movie.
It also made the least money.
Someone made a helpful chart.
-
That’s pretty upsetting, I’ve got to say.
-
-
Most of the stuff I watch is shameful. 🙁
Buffy – the original movie, and all disney films…
Uncharacteristic rage vent here.
GTA3 is coming out on the PSN. I KNOW, LET’S SHITPOST IT ABOUT A PC MOD INSTEAD LOL. I’M SO HIP AND EDGY LOL.
I’m not a fanboy by any stretch of the imagination, but for some reason I’m raging from the near continual US posts saying “Here’s something Sony related BUT ITS SHIT LOL! Now let’s worship Mario Rehash #999965 and isn’t XBOX GOLD awesome? I LOVE ADS!”
morning TAY. hows stuff?
final day of shameless gaming & I’m sad to say I’ve been pretty shameful in my gaming this month.
I’ve finally been putting some time into Bastion. The dynamic narration is such an innovative way to tell a story. Also Rucks. that mans voice is just amazing.
great game.
also put a few hours into Dead Rising 2 : Off the record last night. Sandbox mode = best mode. no story, just unlimited zombies.
anyway, so… yeah. Hi *waves*

Shane! Come back!
-
Yeah i finished bastion a few months ago. Narration made the game for me. Worth playing but not amazing. I enjjoyed it though.
I started well but fropped the ball last night. I was on track to complete my 5th game, Rayman origins, I have only got an hour or two left to play and I’ll be finished it. I actually picked that game cause it was apparently a 5 hour campaign and I thought it wuold be easy. Over a week now and im getting close, but i borrowed a copy of dark souls from a mate of mine and spent all night playing that. Now I will end the month with two new games that I have not finished, Oh, and i also started quantum conundrum, so my net result is one less game off my pile of shame… but I’ve enjoyed it all.
-
I finished Rayman Origins on Sunday, almost had a nervous break down getting all the Electoons, but that little achievement was totally worth it… totally. :S (Still a damn great game, though.)
-
Ok, so it looks like I may not be here much today. SO MUCH WORK /o\
…how does a company lose MEGATONS of stock?
-
Do you have a really really big couch? Maybe check behind that
Kingdom Hearts Collection HD. Make it happen, Square Enix
-
Too many platform rights, I guess.
But I would play the hell out of it.
-
If they did them all on PS3, that’d be the first thing I’d buy on PSN.
Really hated how they kept jumping platforms every game and still are
-
Yeah, given nowadays you need like 4 consoles to play them all.
-
That’s what turned me to watching the playthroughs of them on youtube rather than buying them. I can’t justify the purchase of new consoles for just this.
-
-
-
I’m still hoping for my Crash Bandicoot and Spyro HD collections 🙁
-
YES!
-
-
put them on vita and i’d be a very happy camper
-
If the whole collection was on the Vita, I think that’d warrant purchasing a Vita for me 🙂
-
they should put on one, two and Re: chain of memories (and make one and two the final mix versions), and maybe birth by sleep.
in fact, if they did release a home console collection, birth by sleep should definately be on there, it’s probably my favourite KH game, and has some pretty important plot.
-
-
Just found out they’re turning The Hobbit into a trilogy. Yay! You can never have too many Hobbits.
-
Three films out of a book that’s less than half the size of Fellowship of the Ring alone? I was surprised but understanding when they announced it as two films originally – Lord of the Rings is a lot less dense, more stuff actually happens in the Hobbit – but three films is straight up milking it. They’re going to have to bring in a ton of side material or something to pad it out. I’d rather they put money into something like a Silmarillion miniseries or something.
Incidentally the best way to read The Hobbit IMO is the graphic novel adaption by Chuck Dixon, Sean Deming and David Wenzel. It was how I got into Tolkien’s stuff when I was a kid, discovered it in my school library when I was about eight.
-
They’re using appendices etc from other Tolkein books to help for the third film. And yeah, The Hobbit is way more dense than Lord of the Rings.
-
-
The Hobbit was far more intricate a story than an LotR book, so I can see why they’re stretching it. 3 movies is probably a bit much though.
One does not simply make a single hobbit film.I saw a stage production of The Hobbit when I was 12 or so in Canberra, and it was absolutely magical. I’ve never seen puppeteering quite like it!
-
Was that about 9 years ago? I saw that one as well, still got the record from it.
Would have made no sense at all if you didn’t know the story but still worth going for the amazing puppets
-
Subway has just started using real bacon. Hungry Jacks recently changed as well, follow McDonald’s lead from a little while back.
Aside from KFC, all of the major fast food stores in Australia now use real bacon on their food instead of those weird pig-like pink grease strips. I wander what prompted this change?
They don’t tend to make changes like this on a whim.
-
There was that whole pink slime controversy to come out of the U.S. a while back, maybe that prompted it?
-
Pink slime is processed mince. I thought the controversy there was about the processing of it leading to unnecessary exposure to bacteria and whatnot.
-
I think a lot of people were genuinely surprised that the food they were eating wasn’t entirely what they thought it was. Might not apply to the bacon, but could be a pre-emptive move… for when people get suspicious. 😛
-
Actually it’s the fact they put ammonia into it that’s the problem. Effectively the stuff is a slop made up of beef extracted sinew, cartilage, bone, guts and fat, turned into a fine pulpy mush and then treated with ammonia to remove bacteria. It’s the ammonium hydroxide they add which is the bulk of the problem, plus the fact that recovered beef like that is considered too low quality for human consumption in a lot of places – even in the US, if it was left untreated it would be barely high enough grade to use for dog food. Not legal to sell it in Australia or Canada or the UK, the EU recently banned it and after the outcries over it most of the US fast food places have stepped away from it because it’s completely unnecessary and it basically is extra unhealthy slop added to the patties to reduce their price by a few cents.
-
Amazing what people will come up with to save a few bucks.
-
-
-
Pink slime is illegal in Australia and has never been used in any fast food places.
-
There goes my conspiracy theory. Back to the JFK assassination then. 😛
-
Turns out that was a hit by the mafia.
Also Yuri Gagarin wasn’t the first man in space, he was second or maybe never at all, the actual test pilot (Vladimir Ilyushin) ran into problems during the flight and crashed in China and the Soviets covered it all up.
-
-
-
-
Have you tried the Moroccan Lamb (for a limited time only!) thing they’re pushing atm? The lamb is weird processed/shaped chunks. It disappointed me. 🙁
-
Wasn’t a fan of it. Lamb is one of those meats that I don’t like minced.
-
Lamb is one of those meats I don’t like at all 😛
-

I’m reading an article addressing the various complaints about plot holes in The Dark Knight Rises:
How Does Bruce Wayne SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS?
He’s the f***ing Batman. Seriously, if any fictional character could pull this one off, it’s the f***ing Batman. Stop whining.
I don’t think it matters what point they’re addressing here, but you can find it all here if you’re interested (again, spoiler warning).
-
This man speaks truth. Batman is capable of anything.
-
DEFINATELY! Argh, over hearing people whinge about this film. This line says it best – ‘My problem with the articles I’ve been seeing is that they try to elevate personal dislike or minor errors into a gross artistic mistake’. It’s a good movie dangit!

Holden just called me. My ute is going to be another 4 weeks /o\
But.
They are giving me a SV6Z instead for the same price. Bigger wheels, leather seats, sat nav and “Limited Edition” badging so I’m not complaining too much.
-
Sat nav and leather seats for another four weeks of waiting?
Sounds like a pretty good trade off to me.
-
Wow, not too shabby! Way to go, man!
-
Nice, its pretty coll that they are upgrading your model a little. Some companies would just say too bad.
-
Odds are they oversold that particular model, realised that there was going to be an excessive delay (3+ months) in getting Freeze exactly what he ordered. Easy solution, bump up to a slightly higher model. It probably costs them very little, gives Freeze a very good impression of Holden as a company and because it seems like an extraordinary event (which it is), he’s more likely to tell people he knows about his positive experience.
That probably makes it seem a little sinister. Really, I just think it means that they appreciate the value of a customer that gets more than they bargained for.
Amazon does a slightly more obvious manipulation where they exaggerate expected delivery times so that you always get it sooner than you think you should.
-
More likely it’s because it’s mid-year and they’re no longer producing the model he ordered and since he’s purchasing a 2012 model, are contractually obligated to deliver a 2012 model, and it’s cheaper to bump up to one which is in stock at a slightly higher level than to go to the expense of sourcing and importing the model ordered from overseas.
Plus it does reflect nicely on them. Also they’ve got repeat business down the line anyway, since he’ll probably take it back to Holden for servicing to maintain the new car warranty. And they have pretty decent margins on new cars usually anyway.
-
Actually I ordered a MY12 but getting a MY13. I’d say the 12s are sold out and everything new is a 13 plate now.
Not sure on the reason for the upgrade but I’m not going to question too much
-
Around this time of year the car manufacturers often have stuff on sale. Possibly the amount you paid would buy a LE version of the same vehicle right now so there’s no cost to them effectively to upgrade you, plus they get your word of mouth and goodwill and avoid you feeling cheated because by the time you got it delivered you could have gotten it cheaper by cancelling the sale and starting a new one.
-
-
-
There was some research done on this kind of thing a while back.
Numbers are completely made up but: If you have a good experience
with a company you might tell 20 or 30% of people you know. If you
have a bad experience you’ll likely tell 50-60% of people you know.
If you have a bad experience, but the company turns it around so
that you have a good experience, you’re likely to tell 90% of
people you know. I knew someone that works in retail that would
purposely flub 2-3 transactions a day, so that customers would be
required to return and he could “fix” the problem – and he’d use
the return visit as another chance to upsell or add-on extra items
after the “generous” fix.
-
Oh shit yeah man!
Im surprised by how many Anime and Animated series there are in IMDB’s top 30 TV shows list.
-
Blame IMDb’s primary userbase for that one.
-
8 out of the top 50, only 3 of which are anime (and two of the remaining 5 are Avatar, so the same franchise). That’s actually about what I’d expect.
Considering that for the last decade or more since Japan moved to producing anime digitally and thus much cheaper, there’s been 20+ shows running every season, and given that you’re talking about a database where self-diagnosed aspies like to go and make excruciatingly detailed lists of things, it shouldn’t really be a surprise that some are in the list. Not should it be a surprise that it’s FMA Brotherhood, Cowboy Bebop and Death Note. They’re very popular because they’ve had multiple US TV runs
-
The only surprises were the two Turkish shows.
-
-
Hey, Fullemetal Alchemist Brotherhood deserves that spot. 😛
-
Interestingly if you look at the top 50 movies, only two are
animated. Spirited Away and Toy Story 3. And they’re a long way
down the list in the late 40s too.
So! New Cronenberg out this week, Cosmopolis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS9jc3BnLRc
Hope it’s as good as it looks… who else is going?
*crickets*
Trjn..? Dan..?
-
I really need to get around to watching History of Violence and Eastern Promises. Those have been on my list of movies to watch for a damned long time.
-
Doooo eeeeeet! I freakin love History of Violence, so good.
-
I’m much more interested in Eastern Promises but I can’t see how I would be able to watch one and not the other, unless I really just did not like it at all.
-
To be fair, you see a lot of manbits in Eastern Promises. Negative
or positive, I’ll let you decide. -
I’m fairly neutral on the inclusion of manbits.
-
-
-
-
A History of Violence is great.
Just when I thought my elbow was starting to get better, it decides to get worse 🙁
I got it checked out by a doctor last week, she thought it was just bruised. Well it sure doesn’t feel like any bruise I’ve ever had before! And I’m practically an expert on the subject! 😛
But yeah. It’s been sore for 3 weeks now… 🙁
-
I’ve had problems walking since the start of July. My parents are
like “You should go see a doctor about that.” And I’m all
“PPPPPSSSSHHHHHHHH” So I can’t walk more than 100 metres without
getting pain in my foot…
@Hugo re: Dragon’s Dogma
My internet has been borked since Wednesday, and I’ve barely got past the point where you can create a pawn (maybe an hour or so?) – perhaps one or both of these are contributing to the problem?
When my internet’s back up (hopefully tonight!) I’ll give it another whirl.
It’s time for a special message from They Might Be Spam!
“Hello
Australian
people.
They Might Be Giants is staging a public campaign to get back to Australia in the spring of 2013. It has been too long, and we miss you guys.
In an effort to convince Australian promoters we exist we have started a twitter feed at @TMBGaustralia (https://twitter.com/TMBGaustralia) and there is a fan-created facebook page at
http://www.facebook.com/TMBG.Australian.FanpageWe would sincerely encourage you to join either or both, and to tell your friends to join as well. If there is a meaningful number of folks involved it would be a tremendous asset for us to convince the powers that be that we have interested folks out there in your magnificent country.
Thank you–and we hope to see you in 2013!”
If you have even a passing interest in the works of TMBG – and even if you don’t – please go do the Twitter and Facebook things. You will make me and others (e.g. welbot) very happy if we can get them out here again!
I am going to continue bringing this up everywhere until everybody caves to my demands… it worked for #GetMillaToTweetTad and the SPAAACE MAUUREEN purchasing blitz, right?
-
I’m interested in things.
-
I am a real doctor but I’m not a real worm…
-
-
oh hellz yeah! I signed up as soon as I found out about this 🙂 I
seriously hope they play Brisbane, cos if they don’t I will HAVE to
take a holiday to wherever they play, cos fuck missing out on this!
Pretty sure my sis will be on board for this one too! PLZ PLZ PLZ
PLZ MAKE IT HAPPEN TMBG!
My RAT 5 is borked, with a replacement being sent my way \o/
Let’s hope this one lasts a decent while, eh?
Erm … Don’t mind me. I’m just testing something. No, not the TAY
breaking sort of something. Just something. 😛
-
Yep. Just as I thought. Line breaks aren’t working. /o\

Yes.

All lambos are lambo. Except the ones that aren’t, and a couple of
the ones that are.-
ARGH!

Lambo fell into a cursed hot spring and now whenever he gets wet
(happens often, very accident-prone) he turns into a girl.-
Don’t feed him after midnight. Bad things happen.

But you can’t scramble a mystery /o\

I was just about to test this. Thought it was just me. Glad it’s
not.

Been a slow day anyway, if that’s any help;

Except for that bit where THEY MIGHT BE FREAKING GIANTS want to
come to Australia. It’s up there Rize. Check it out!-

I NO, RITE??!!

Why are all the text lines wrapping at like 40 characters? I
already post way too much verbose crap, that just makes my walls of
text longer 🙁
-
Did someone break TAY again, or is it throughout the site?
-
It’s all through the site. I noticed it on the article Mark wrote
about be #OldManSerrels games journalist-
It’s happening on all the Allure sites, not just Kotaku. \o/
Testing in Production \o/
-
-
-
Erm yeah. That’s kinda my fault. I showed Ben “Page 10”. So he went
and did something or other that should stop that sort of stuff from
breaking pages again. He appears to have accidentally made these
other things happen though…-
What happened on page 10?
-
Strikethrough. Everywhere. Also bold, italics, and pink text. I
would show it to you, but Ben just had to go and fix it all up,
didn’t he? 😛 (This was from a TAY from last December BTW)-
And let me guess, it was all your fault? lol
-
…mostly.
-
-
-
*sigh* people in the are are protesting that council not cut down
some Camphor Laurel tree’s because they’ve been there 80 years.
Yes, let’s leave an introduced weed and tell the council they’re
doing the wrong thing by wanting to replace it with native tree’s.
and some woman has gone and chained her self to one of said tree’s.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
-
area are*
-
Being native is overrated. I have to say I’m with the protesters on
this one. Preserving 80 year old trees > planting some Gum
Trees*, because it’s not like Australia doesn’t have enough of
those already *Or whatever native plant it is they’re planning on
planting.-
Also, I hate this text wrapping. Mucking up the structure of my
posts. grumble grumble -
Camphor Laurel is quite a pest in this area though, they thought it
would be smart to burn it not that long back releasing carcinogens
into the local atmosphere.. Also there are plants like wattles and
others that are quite lovely to look at, that can be planted not
just gums..-
Age before beauty. Honestly, I just hate to see anything old
destroyed, no matter what it may be. -
Even if that thing is something that poses health risks to the
community or other risks that outweigh it being something positive?
(not talking about the current topic, but thought i’d ask that) But
also Camphor tree’s are a general hazard to the local environment
since where it is, is on the water and a plant such as it is
leeching into the ground is not really something you’d want and the
fact it stops any other plant germinating by covering the ground
with it’s rather toxic leaves and it’s rather intrusive root
system, that strangles other plants & will get into sewage,
water & stormwater. This area in general is quite nice to look
at when it’s maintained, and the right sort of plants are there
otherwise it looks dead & dull. -
Public safety outweighs keeping old things around, of course, but
it’s still a shame to see those old things go. -
I’ll be honest, if this was public property i’d have no issue, but
since it poses several health risks, I just wish some of the locals
who never seem to have anything better to do rather than waste
local rate payers money (The council does that easily enough with
out any help!) would wake up and realise that it’s probably being
done to improve the area or stop potential harm happening. Example
the council had no real option recently other than to remove a 130
year old tree of some sorts due to it was infested with termites in
the base, the locals had a massive outcry that there was no danger
at all, yet if it was going to fall down it was going to crush a
local pub. But that was fine apparently? -
In the NT, if a pub is destroyed, you’d wanna hope to hell you can

Oh man I bet. We don’t have a enough pubs around here damn it! I
can only count about 6? Pubs in my local area… Two of which are
ones i’d go to haha.

@Tigs RE: Hobbit puppetry. I had read the book the year before, so
I had a fair grasp of what was going on. It was so well done, and
was the first time I’d really been “wowed” by the theatre. I really
wish I had gone more often outside of performing before I left
Canberra 😛 Completely unrelated: Thanks to me, work has gone from
a deficit of ~4megatonnes of stock to a surplus of ~3 megatonnes. I
am a god.

OH GOD WHERE ARE MY LINE BREAKS?!

I ate them :3

Huzzah my new bag arrived and a day earlier then they said it would

Okay this whole formatting thing is doing my head in /o\

I cant see this problem you’re all going on about

No line breaks or nothing /o\ and there’s a short character number

Just beat the Pokemon Conquest primary story mode. Oichi can die in
a fire. Nobunaga’s castle was frustrating, but mostly because I
hadn’t had to think about items until then. New story mode seems
like a pretty cool guy.
-
Wait, you’re referring to the primary storyline as in defeating
Nobunaga yeah? That bad? I didn’t have any issues, but my eevee
evolved into a glaceon and murdered all the dragons. I assume your
curse Oichi because of her useless jiggly puff?-
Wigglytuff is horrible as well. It hits all my friendly guys
because of it’s stupid attack 😐 -
Just that my first two attempts my Pokemon managed to miss every
attack, and Nobunaga’s managed to chain crit. The final battle
wasn’t nearly as hard. -
Also, I was annoyed that you could not enter a castle battle
without Oichi in your party. The “episodes” are making up for that.
-
-
\o/ What did you evolve your Eevee into, by the way? I haven’t been
playing it lately because I’m waiting for the 3DS XL. Luckily the
Steam sales haven’t made that too hard to do 😛-
My first Eevee I turned into Vaporeon, because that’s my favourite
eeveelution. I also had a Flareon and Jolteon by the end. I thought
there’d be a twist after uniting the kingdoms, so I spent a huge
amount of time searching out perfect links.
-
What? Warehouse 13 is in it’s 4th season? I never realized there
was a second.
-
Is that a good or bad thing?
PRESENT RESERVE – Do these words: a) Have similar meanings b) Have
contradictory meanings c) Mean neither the same nor opposite?
-
Hmmmm…ummmm…I’m gonna have to go with…w).
-
I’d have to go with either A or B on this one, dependant on
context. You could present the target with the object in question,
much like you could reserve the object for the person in
question. On second thoughts, I’m going to go with B, as A implies
that reserving/restricting an object/placement is similar to
presenting/offering it, which is contradictory.-
My first thought is C but i’m also going to have to go with B as
reserving something to me means denying it to people while
presenting something is giving it to someone. The idea of reserving
something so it may be presented to someone though is amusing. Good
choice of words to examine!-
Semantics have always piqued my curiosity 😀
-
It is a question on the practice exam for the Police Entrance Test.
Apparently the answer is C although B makes more sense to me. They
did ask what a “centremeter” measures though so I’m a little
concerned about it.-
1/100th of a meter which I believe is supposed to be something like
the distance light travels in 1 second. Not too sure abut that last
bit though. May also have something to do with french bread.

@ Freeze S. Preston Icequire “This man speaks truth. Batman is
capable of anything.” Murder. Is batman capable of cold blooded
murder?
-
Yes. Being capable of something and choosing not to are two
different things. There’s been a few instances where he has
teetered on the brink with Joker IIRC.-
haha, I knew someone would make that distinction eventually. I was
hoping stump you for a little bit. How about this then. Capable of
finding out how the joker really got those scars! (possibly already
covered, I only know batman via the movies)-
Pfft. Batman already knows that. He has a file on everyone,
including his allies in case they go rogue. He’s not the Worlds
Greatest Detective for nothing you know.-
He’s the worlds greatest detective because he gets to the scene
before them and steals the most vital evidence! -
*them being the actual detectives

To put it into context, an image was posted to my facebook feed
containing a boxset of DBZ DVDs. The following is a transcript of
the comments on said image (accounting for “likes” on comments, I
am clearly in the minority :P); Aleph: I tried re-watching DBZ in
recent years. I never realised ’til recently that the show drags on
more than Days of Our Lives. Best to retain your memories through
the tinted vision of NostalgiaGoggles, in my opinion 😛 24 minutes

Aleph: Seriously man, I don’t mean to offend, but that first Spirit
Bomb took AGES. Hell, Picolo’s
Special-Beam-Cannon-Fucking-Moonpie-Ultrafire took at least 2-3
episodes, and that was the first season! I loved the show as a kid,
although I think I’ll leave it at that 😛 Want an anime that has
aged superbly? Check out Akira. Possibly one of the finest examples
😀 14 minutes ago · Like Friend’s Boyfriend: DBZ is timeless and
how long it takes is part of the fun. 10 minutes ago · Like Aleph:
I think the time taken between story arcs was moreso implemented
due to the target demographic, which was evidently us in
primary/highschool (at least in western culture). That demographic
would sit down and watch an episode on Cheez TV before school
(invariably getting to school late because of it) and as such they
could afford the luxury of extending the
Kamehameha/Special-Beam-Cannon/Vegeta’s-first-super-saiyan-transformation/Freeza’s-multiple-phases/Cell’s-multiple-phases/Spirit-Bomb/Android-absorption
through multiple episodes. I dare say the series banked on it. If
you were to compress the story arcs, I believe you’d be left with
perhaps 2 seasons total, with no loss in integrity to the true
storyline. Not saying it was a bad show, I adored it as a kid. It
just hasn’t aged well. 4 minutes ago · Like Friend’s Boyfriend:

OK, so the first two sentences are to be seen as a separate
paragraph, with each “comment” being preceded by “Aleph/Friend’s
Boyfriend:”. Uggh… -
The manga is significantly better paced. The problem with a big
shonen series like DBZ is that they run the anime concurrent to the
manga, meaning that for example when the Ginyu Force showed up in
the manga, at the same time the anime might have just finished the
fight with Vegeta or had Kuririn and co arrive on Namek. So they
couldn’t get too far ahead or else they’d run out of material to
animate, meaning they had to pace themselves by slowing the pace a
lot. Of course they could have just stopped airing the show for a
while, but that’s not profitable, so they artificially extend it.
If you wanna check out DBZ again though, try Dragonball Z Kai,
which condenses about 200 episodes of the show into 98, and is a
much better dubbing of the show. I’m a bit of a DBZ fanboy…-
Agreed. The manga is so much better paced than the anime. Get the
manga, people! Boxsets go! Also, fun fact: ‘Over 9000!’ in the
anime is actually ‘Over 8000!’ in the manga. -
I wouldn’t consider myself a fanboy per se, simply loved the show
as a kid 😛 I’ll definitely check out DBZ-Kai, as it sounds like
exactly what is needed, in my opinion. It makes sense from a
marketing/business POV to extend a series in such a way, especially
if the audience is almost guaranteed to watch it regardless. It
didn’t bother me at all as a kid (I still remember trying to bleach
my hair so I could be a super-saiyan… it came out copper/bronze)
although I found it extremely tedious listening to Goku scream for
episode upon episode trying to reach a higher power level. Perhaps
I’m just jaded now? Iunno…-
Oh I’m not saying you’re wrong for thinking that. I’m just offering
the sort of argument this other person should have been making
instead of saying ‘wrong’ repeatedly. Kai is great, they’re on
Namek in less than 20 episodes.
-
-
Yeah, Kai was definitely far better paced. Took a bit to get used
to the voices. Unfortunately it only goes as far as Cell so having
to research the original series from there is kind of hard. Keep
wishing it would just hurry the fudge up and stop concentrating on
standing around explaining the obvious over and over.-
Eh, the Boo arc is mostly rubbish anyway. 😛
-
Still better than GT. Ye gods is that hard to watch nowadays.
-
GT had some good ideas, like the Dragonball overuse stuff, it was
just pretty badly executed. -
Also, WTF IS UP WITH BROLY SAGA/MOVIE?!?! Stoopid invincible
manthing. I think I kinda lost interest around that point,
actually. -
Apparently American audiences love Broly. I dunno why. The first
movie they put him in was decent, but then they made two more…
-
-
-
I never bothered with GT. I was inducted into the DB universe with
DBZ, and only after being engrossed with that did I venture back to
DB itself. The Majin saga was a pain in DBZ, if I recall
correctly… (was Majin/Boo saga the one and the same, or was it
Boo that flowed into Majin saga?) -
Yep, they’re the same, people just refer to it in different ways.
-
Kai has completely finished airing, has it? I’ve been meaning to
watch it. I really want to rewatch Dragonball as well. Also, the
best part about Buu saga is Teen Gohan/Great Saiyaman.
-
Yeah it’s all finished. There’s one more DVD set left to come out
here in Aus, but then you probably aren’t looking at actually
buying it so yeah you should be fine. 😛-
I’ll buy them one day! 😛
-
Shameful nerd admissions, Part 1: I’ve only read one manga. (BONUS
REDEEMER: it was Dot//Hack(BONUS SHAME: it was in English))
-
Like one manga as a whole, or just one volume? I’ve never read any
😛 (unless a couple of pages online count)-
Errm, guilty almost as charged :S I had the first two volumes,
although can’t remember if there were more. They had pink and green
dustcovers, respectively.
-
-
*cough* uh. *shifty embarrassed look* I, uh, may not have read one
at all. -
Shameful Nerd Admission: I only read mainstream Manga. I read some
of Bleach, I’ve read FMA and I read Naruto. I mean, I’ve also read
the first 2/3rds of Hellsing, which is a little less mainstream,
but only very slightly.-
I am committed to finishing Bleach, even though I have long since
gotten quite bored of it.-
I’ve been meaning for a while to get a copy of the anime off my
friend, and watch up to, I think, the initial massive story arc
ends. He says it gets stupid after that, so yeah…-
Yeah, if you pretend everything wraps up after that first big arc,
it’s a pretty decent story. 😛
-
-
-
-
The only manga I’ve read completely is Battle Royale. Which
probably doesn’t count 😛 I’ve read a fair bit of Pokemon manga
though! -
I haven’t read any manga. And until recently, hadn’t seen star wars
:p
Man dat Allure format… || I played some more
L4D2 tonight with some real life friends and it’s so much better
when you’re with a decent group. The last bit of the 2nd campaign
where you have to fill up a generator with gas SUCKS. I’m not fond
of all the gas filling up bits and I must’ve done it at least 8
times with different groups of (terrible) randoms before finally
beating it. || I’m also pretty sure you can get
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition from Green Man Gaming for
something like $26.40. The pre-order price is $40 but if you’re
lucky enough to have one of the free games they gave away the past
few weeks you can trade it in for $7 off. Then there’s the 20% off
code you can use which should take it down to $26.40. Thought I
should let y’all know as I know some of you (Nob) wanted to get it.

Pyrean mentioned something about a friendly fire incident?
Blaghman?-
I may have shot Pyrean in the face, killing him immediately. My
excuse is that it was a heated firefight, and that I won. -
Glahman was just testing the accuracy of his rifle … it is very accurate.
-
-
See I thought – hey, why not jump in, get a few supplies and log out…
Well I did jump in, spawned next to Cherno, got supplies, crossbow, more medical stuff than I could carry, I even found a bloody working helicopter.
Then I heard gunshots, some player with a M16 glitched through a wall – stood there for a minute (I thought he was lagged out since he was half in a wall) and then I died.
Fun times.

I really don’t mind that it’s minimalistic.
I don’t really need any more functionality from my spam email address.
There seems to be a lot of good stuff there, like automatic newsletter clean ups and organising emails by groups as well as folders.
I think if someone takes the time to set it up properly it could be pretty awesome.

Someone kill me, please? Just do it quickly.
Hey all, apologies for the weird formatting over the last 12 hours or so!
There were a few ways to bypass conventional WordPress comment filters and completely mess up the whole page visually, so we’re now having to run each comment through our own custom HTML validator.
The original settings were a bit aggressive, and the symptoms unfortunately didn’t show up in testing – my test posts are a lot shorter than what normally comes up here 🙂
Anyway – as always, if you come across anything weird, hit up the support form or message me on Twitter. Unfortunately I don’t have enough hours in the day to always lurk the comments 🙂
-
Neither do we, so we just let our work suffer. Where’s your lack of professionalism, hmm???
Cheers for the hard work, Ben!
-
Line breaks and formatting and all things nice!
These are a few of my favourite things \o/Thanks for the fix Ben!

I have a dislike of fancy titles for menial jobs. I don’t care if it was the boss giving that title to make someone feel more important (Assistant to the Regional Manager) or if the person is trying to trump themselves up.
I’ve been at this job for just shy of two years. For most of that time, I had no idea what my title was (if I even had one) and if pressed, I would say “Administrator”. Short simple and gets the point across.
Now I’m technically IT Manager and Admin Officer or some such nonsense.
I’m glad I don’t have any qualifications, people who spam letters after their names also annoy me.
Keep it simple. Just tell us what you do in terms that someone who doesn’t do what you do can understand.
-
My title is ‘bum’
-
-
Nonono.
You’re a participant in a government funded research project in the long-term effects of exposure to comfortable seating.
-
HAHAHA! Yeaaah, yes exactly
-
-
-
If you have the title of manager, use that as an excuse to get paid like one.
-
I can honestly say that I don’t know how much money I make right now.
After the new financial year, I got both a pay rise and a tax cut. Then I got this promotion, and was told that I would be compensated accordingly. If our payroll is done one week forward/one week back or for the previous two weeks, then I’m not sure how much I make. If it’s done two weeks in advance, I have a decent idea but would need another paycheque to confirm.
Should probably just ask :p
-
-
I used to sign off on internal emails as Chief Officer of Awesomeness and Beer Consumption. They were fine for a laugh internally, until someone forwarded an email to a client without editing my signature.
Now we have a script which signs me off as a “Systems Development Officer”. “Developer” would be nicer and more succinct but I guess they think they are making me feel important.
-
I’m thinking that “Computer Guy” is a pretty accurate description of my relevant duties.
-
What a boss. That should be your official title.
-
-
I call myself an IT Consultant, simple, covers all aspects of what I do. I’m also part owner of my business but I don’t pull that card out unless needed…
-
In an effort to persuade myself that I wasn’t wasting time, instead of “Pizza Delivery Guy” I referred to myself as a “Mobile Appetite Technician”. Likewise, instead of “Trolley-boy” I was a “Collections Agent”.
In my current role, I’m an Administration Assistant, plain and simple. Often my responsibilities don’t reflect my job description, but hey, I’m not typically one to rock the boat…
This reminds me of a topic Pez posted on his website last night. It was pertaining to music specifically, though the idea can be carried into many other avenues.
http://jamesflamestar.com/a-matter-of-genre/ if you haven’t seen it.On a side note, I have some letters I can spam on the end of my name. On ordering my Raspberry Pi, I decided I was Professor Aleph-Null. On a club membership, I’m Dr. Aleph-Null.
I think I wanna be a rabbi next. -
Thing is, finding a new job or negotiating pay is all about the title.
Yes the title makes no difference in your day to day job (unless you work a lot with clients, customer service, high end sales).
But it’s important to demonstrate your experience level, both for your clients and for potential employers.
Basically your title is only important on your business card, email signature and resume.
Howdy TAY – Attempted to play Skyrim with my girlfriend last night (she’s not a gamer, so it was more of getting her to enjoy the story/scenery whilst helping me with decisions. Character selection went like this:
“You can’t be him, he looks like a Rapist” (Dark Elf)
“Rapist” (High Elf)
“A Lizard, Really?”
“You’re not being a cat”
“Definitely a Rapist. ” (Orc)
“Looks like he got raped by the Orc” (Wood Elf)
“They look normal” (Nord, Imperial, Redguard, Breton)
I think she is racially prejudiced against Elves. I told her that the game is in first person and you rarely see your character anyways, and that I wanted to do some melee fighting, so we rolled an Orc. She named him “MY NAME IS ORC” because “Orcs must be stupid”. We proceed through to the execution scene. “Why are they being executed? Are they Rapists too?” – Yes, everyone in Skyrim has raped or been raped at some point, that’s why they are having a rebellion.
MY NAME IS ORC proceeded to evade his execution and the dragon, using a sword and flames spell for combat (Until I found a 2 handed weapon). “So you can cast fire spells? Why didn’t you do that when you were on the cart in the first place?” My hands were bound, “So in this game rope is magical, that stops anyone from doing anything?” *Sigh* Yes, it’s magic anti-rapist rope.
Whilst fighting a stormcloak, MY NAME IS ORC attacked them with his flames spell. Given that Orcs aren’t that great at destruction magick, it took a while. “That guy was burning for at least a minute, but he kept on fighting. Why didn’t he die?” My destruction skill isn’t high and doesn’t do much damage “But he was on fire. For a MINUTE” It’s damage over time “This game is unrealistic. People don’t die from fire and Magic rope stops you from doing anything. Also, there are rapists everywhere.”
I gave up and finished Breaking Bad season 3 instead.
-
I would have thought that seeing rapists everywhere would be a natural symptom of where you live 😛
-
Tell you girlfriend her logic is amazing and flawless.
Also, I think these should become regular stories 😀
-
…that first sentence reads like I’m takin’ the piss, but I was being sincere 😛
-
She just doesn’t get non-obvious things like RPG stats. If something looks like it is doing something, it should be (Fire in this case). With that being said it’s probably not a bad design principle if they could manage it. Something like if your skill is low the flames are smaller and less hot, getting bigger and turning blue/white as you progress.
-
-
-
That season ending! zomg
-
BANG! Was quite awesome.
-
Just wait til season 4, oh man oh man oh man
-
-
-
Actually it’s always interesting seeing a non gamers take on the stupid and illogical conventions in games the we take as par for the course.
-
My wife’s usual question is “I just shot an unarmoured man in the chest 3 times and he is acting like it never happened. This game is stupid.”
-
Actually one such thing I cant look past is Uncharted. It takes the whole perspective of budding young treasure hunter, and turns him into rambo against 1000 mercenaries. Pretty weird really.
-
-
-
Aww man, I couldbt atop laughing while reading that. 10/10, can’t wait for the sequel.
-
I don’t think there will be a sequel. Although I almost got her to play Minecraft once. I called it operation “Boobs and Blocks”. I might try that again once the next update comes out.
-
-
Also this reminds me of when I attempted to teach a ladyfriend magic. I was like ok you tap these cards for mana, which you’ll need for spells… blank stare… “I’m not sure I want to learn this”
-
So my Skyrim character has been a rapist this whole time!? It’s always the ones you least suspect.
-
“I gave up and finished Breaking Bad season 3 instead.”
Honestly – better use of your time…-
There are very few things worth doing in this world that would be a better use of ones time
-
-
Magic anti-rapist rope. Hilarious.
Alright, time to play the “Let’s see how long it takes for Transformers: FoC to go up in price or get removed from Steam in Australia” game…
-
Hey WfC is $5 on Steam :D. I hear TAY likes this game and I enjoyed the PS2 one agesss ago so hopefully this is good 🙂
-
Huh. I thought you couldn’t buy it off Steam in Oz.
-
I never looked it up but a friend mentioned this as well when I told them about the sale. We both just bought it so I guess it’s available now? It’s not advertised on the main page but if you look at top sellers it’s there.
Out of TAY friends only Pez has it at the moment so I’m not sure if he bought it before or just during this sale.
-
Well, it’s telling me that you, Pez, and BlueMaxima own it. My brother’s probably going to buy it, so I’ll just play his copy xD
-
-
-
Purchased!
-
…who the hell are you?
-
…this isn’t where I parked my car.
-
-
-
-
Damn TAY marketing strikes again, my thought process went something like this
Ohhhh something I’m not meant to have, might take it way soon. Didn’t TAY say that they enjoyed it?
I’m buying it cause I’m such a badass. hahaha done
……..
Oh I wonder what this game is like and if it is any good-
Yeah, I’m holding off purchasing any more games for quite some time…
-
Ah, new outlook e-mail address is leaving all my comments in moderation. *shakes fist*
Boss asks me about the status of something I’m not really involved in.
I tell him I don’t know and to ask colleague who is heavily involved.
Boss says colleague doesn’t know and said to ask me. Has a go at me for not being on top of it.
I make some calls and update myself on the issue. Email finding to boss and colleague.
Colleague replies “I knew that, but thanks.”

1. Light colleagues pants with a match
2. Shout out “You’re fired!”
3. While people are busy being impressed by your pun, leap out of building

Hahaha, I approve of this solution
-
Y’know, I think I’d actually pay to see that.
-
5 minutes of work, check TAY and procrastinate for 15 minutes. Oh yeah now I remember why I stopped TAY
-
Only 15 minutes? You’re doing it wrong 😛

Haha, yeah to be fair I’m grossly under estimating tim spent not working, and grossly over estimating time spent working

I’m trying to procrastinate but people keep calling me.

@Aleph
I am going to have to find my book from the hobbit now. Also was all that stock behind the couch?
-
Tempted to buy one of those…
-
Nah, we’re not fancy enough for couches. The stock was lost in the paperwork. Doesn’t help that the company purchasing from us claims that we didn’t supply the agreed 2.5MT, when in actual fact we supplied about double that, and didn’t know it.
This is what happens when you get people who can’t spell their own names correctly, to fill in paperwork.
I’m going to have to buy a copy of the hobbit again, I lost mine far too long ago D:-
You should do that but I was talking about the full colour booklet record thingy from the puppetry show
-
-
That’s pretty awesome
-
Ha! Awesome.
I’ve started my journey into building my own RepRap 3d printer and wow what a shitstorm of information is out there!
So, have any TAYbies had experience building a RepRap? I’m looking more at the Prusa variant (space and cost wise) and any assistance would be helpful as! I have a few parts suppliers bookmarked, but they seem to think everyone automatically knows exactly what parts they need when building their first one!
I’m not after a kit (I wouldn’t say no, but I would prefer to do the construction/soldering myself) but I’m struggling to find a decent build list that I can then use to purchase parts off. If anyone knows a decent supplier who can print off some parts for me in exchange for cold hard $AUD, a recommendation would be helpful!
Watch this space… for a story about building a 3d printer… but possible suicidal rage…

You’re building your own 3D printer!? I first discovered the wonders of 3D printing somewhat recently but I’ve never heard of anyone building their own. Post some updates in TAY if you can as it sounds interesting and I’d love to hear about the process and how it works out :).
I’m just waiting for the time when they’re cheap and common in most households. Then I can PRINT ALL THE FIGURINES.
-
On the bright side, should it move towards violent rage, you could print yourself a gun!
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/07/30/3d_printed_assault_rifle/ -
I know someone who has a Makerbot which IIRC is the commercialised version. I think it was pretty fiddly to build, required a whole weekend’s work.
-
Yeah, don’t mind the Makerbots except for the $$$ tag, but I dunno something about an open air steel rail 3D printer appeals to me, also being 1/4 – 1/3 the price of a makerbot helps!

Breaking Bad is very, very good. But Sons of Anarchy is way better.
Discuss.
-
The Wire trumps them both.
/discussion
-
Although I’ve not yet seen Sons of Anarchy,. so I’m just talking rubbish.
but yeah. The Wire. Brilliant.
Also, Hi Shane! How’s things with mini-Shane?
-
Hi #!
Things are great. Baby is sleeping well, feeding well, is crazy strong and observant, and is generally calm and well-tempered. I think I’m good at making babies 😛
How are things with you?
-
-
Must try that show. I have never heard of anyone who disliked it.
-
It’s great but personally I prefer Breaking Bad. The Wire kind of gets ‘worse’ as it goes on but it’s still solid and entertaining enough. Whereas, I find Breaking Bad keeps getting better and better.
Now I think Breaking Bad is one of the best TV shows I’ve ever see but I keep hearing Sons of Anarchy is great as well. I’ll have to check it out one day :).
-
That’s interesting. I actually think season 2-3 of Breaking Bad are best. Season 3 had some great moments, though (ESPECIALLY the last two eps!), and ep 1 of season 4 was pretty intense. But since then, I feel like I’m just watching to see how it ends…
-
I dunnooooo… the way season 4 builds up to its ending was the best part of the show for me so far. The last episodes are just so well done.
-
-
Yeah Ihavent seen sons of anarchy yet, but overall I prefer breaking bad to the wire. I do love the wire, and I think its incredibly interesting commentary on a lot of issues, but as far as pure entertainment and character development goes, for me at least breaking bad wins out.
-
-
-
*cough* Tron Uprising *cough* 😛
Whilst SoA is an amazingly written show, I feel Breaking Bad is just that little bit better, for whatever reason. But that said, Burn Notice is possibly the best show at the moment, Season 6 is just amazing. It’s back to what it was in terms of writing and semi plot wise in the first 3 seasons! But honestly all three shows are amazing, it’s really hard to pick a favourite.
I choose to believe Sons of Anarchy is a reference to Mini-Shane.
I like them both equally, but Sons does have strippers….
Hey, Can i please ask the Master Race among us for some assistance. Im thinking of getting a PC but rather than being heavily focussed on gaming, this is more for video editing and stuff like that. I am trying to focus on good CPU and good ram. I’ll still want to be OK at playing games, but nothing over the top. Im really targetting around $500 but may increase a little if I have to. Money is a big issue so certainly nothing over $700 for all the parts I need. I’d much rather around 5-600.
Now, I am planning on re-using some parts if possible. I have a case and a PSU that should be fine. The PSU is only about 6 months old and is 750-850w?
I really don’t know that much about PC’s but as I understand it, for the video stuff im doing, I want as many cores as possible in the CPU and as much ram as I can afford.. good rules for life really!
So here is what Im thinking, use my old case and PSU and DVD drive and also my existing SATA 1TB HDD as storage only and my case. I also have an Avermedia HDMI capture card that I will bring across. then purchase the following:
AMD FX 4170 4-Core Processor – $135
ASRock 990FX Extreme3 Motherboard – $139
Corsair Vengeance CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 – $129
SanDisk Extreme Solid State Drive 120GB – $109
Gigabyte Radeon HD7770 1GB Overclocked – $139
All up this is $651 and I think I can stretch that far. What my thought is to run the OS on the SSD and a few key apps then the rest on the existing 1TB. I have a 2TB NAS that will also be connected so storage isn’t an issue. I also want to have 2X8GB ram so if I ever want to upgrade, I can get another 2X8GB and go to 32GB without having to replace existing stuff.
If I have missed anything let me know, But I think that is a decent price for a decent set up. Do you think I should replace any parts or I can get a better deal?
I also have a new 27″ monitor so that isn’t an issue. I’ll likely replace my casae too but I will just buy this locally so I can have a good look at it.
Any help is appreciated guys. Cheers,
-
I would just say I’ve had terrible experience with arserock motherboards, STAY AWAY! Can get much better makes for around the same price, like Asus or Gigabyte.
-
Also, RAM is cheap as chups these days, geezus
-
Ive pretty much stayed with gigabyte for all previous mobos but only chose this one because it was compatible with the processor. OK I’ll look at another option. Yeah RAM is awesome.
-
-
I’d look at an Intel CPU, if I were you. The important part is that clock speed is a terrible metric of processing power, so comparing properly can be quite a chore.
-
Can I get away with i5 as i7 is heaps more $$$
-
Probably. When I have computer access tonight I’ll give stuff a quick squiz, I haven’t really looked at CPUs in about a year, so I’m not up to date.
-
i5 vs i7 you’re losing maybe 100-200mhz unless you’re talking six-core i7 extreme craziness.
-
-
-
I’ve got a Gigabyte mobo currently, and have had nothing but smooth experiences with it. Can’t say the same for ASRock, though each to their own. If you’re after cores>clockspeed, the AMD Phenom black edition is a hexacore CPU, and while it’s a little older these days, should be able to be found for a decent price.
I’m biased towards Intel CPUs personally, but to each their own really.
Seems like a really solid system for $500 though!-
OK revised list is:
G.Skill Ares F3-1600C10D-16GAO 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 for $109
Gigabyte GA-H77-D3H-MVP Motherboard for $115 and
SanDisk Extreme Solid State Drive 120GB for $109
Intel Core i5 3470 for $199Im thinking of dropping the gfx card for the short term as I think i can pick one up elsewhere or perhaps use my existing one while I save a little more.
Appreciate the comments so far dudes.
-
MOAR RAM = MOAR POWAH *cough*
Looks good man, out of interest though, what’s your current GPU?
-
Not sure man. 512mb of something, may not even be compatible with my new set up… but I may have a mate who has older stuff by his standards so I think I’ll just want and see.
I think its an ATI 4800 or something, but honestly I don’t know what I have. As I don’t really try playing PC games It isn’t an issue usually.
-
-
If you can afford it, drop the extra $40 or so to go to an i5 3570K.
– 200mhz base and turbo boost bonus
– ‘K’ designation means it can be overclocked
– Intel HD4000 graphics on the chip vs HD2500. The HD4000 is vastly more capable and should be more able to keep your UI going etc. when the machine’s under load rendering.-
EDIT: Also if you need to save some dollars, consider a 7200rpm mechanical over a SSD. While SSDs are cheap they still have problems, and the only time you really notice the speed increase is when loading data into memory eg system boot. If you’re using it for rendering you’d be better off having extra space locally for caching intermediate stuff / virtual memory, since you’re probably not going to be booting the machine up all the time and most of your programs are going to be loaded once and then left loaded for extended periods.
-
thanks dude. Nah i really want the SSD and that is not the issue on price. I have also taken your advice and upped the CPU. Its just now sitting in a cart to see when the hell I can afford this? I’ve only got about $300 on it atm. Not sure if I should buy in bits or try and hold out til I save the extra cash 🙁
Now ive just made myself sad! I want stuff now.
-
-
-
I can suggest for the SSD the OCZ Agility 3 series is 99 dollars at the moment for the 120GB model due to the Agility 4 series just being launched and they’re a great SSD from what all my friends tell me, and they have great reviews on Umart and the like from users.
I’m really out of touch with AMD processors so I can’t comment there, ASRock are pretty good, Asus sister brand or something and they make pretty good boards.
-
OK I’ve included that, thanks.
My only real issue is the Intel CPU costing heaps more.. If they are that much better then I guess I can spend the money, but only if it’s worth it. $200 is my limit for CPU however.
-
No worries man! Would like to see you get as much bang for your money as possible!
I recently upgraded my rig; GPU, Ram, CPU, Motherboard & new HDD all for around 600. I went an Intel build with 8GB of ram, a Nvidia GTX 560 graphics card & Gigabyte motherboard. It seems plenty for me at the moment, but am looking to add another 8Gb of ram & an SSD in the near future.
I’m not really sure what my 2500 intel CPU would be like for what you’re after but it’s a quadcore clocked at 3.3GHz, it cost me around 210 dollars, I went and coupled that with a mid range Gigabyte board that was around 100 bucks, haven’t regretted the decision yet other than I don’t have USB 3.0 on the back of the board.
Now Intel have the Ivy bridge models out, i’m not sure but there are around 200 dollar processors that are probably perfect for what you want. But yeah, hopefully Blaghs or someone else can be a bit more helpful there.
-
Fun fact: That Avermedia capture card doesn’t work when there’s more than 4GB of RAM.
-
Links? Im sure I have more than 4gb ram atm and it works.
I do have some issues but never assumed it was because i had too much ram?
-
Just something I stumbled across after upgrading my PC and it stopped working. Probably couldn’t find a source now.
-
-
As much as it makes me cringe, would a 32bit partition mitigate that shortcoming?
-
Probably? I know that on Win7 64bit, it doesn’t like my current setup.
-
strange. I have Win7 64bit.. I have some issues with it, but If I run at mpeg2 it seems to work ok, but perhaps you have explained why I can’t do much compression on the fly or much else, as it doesn’t like my PC? Food for thought anyway.
-
I can’t think of any reason it wouldn’t work, to be perfectly honest. If the OS doesn’t recognize any more than 4GB, then that’s all that’s available. Still… having a separate partition just to get around a RAM limitation (or in this case, to implement one) seems far too much hassle for what it’s worth.
Unfortunately, I’ve no knowledge on video-editing software, so that’s as far as I can go, methinks!
-
It’s a hardware issue, as far as I can tell.
Haven’t tried on my current motherboard though. Could work now, just haven’t had any reason to test it.
-
I hea that there are different spec PCI ports and there is a 4X and a 16X. Apparently I was reading that the 16X is required for really good speeds and the card works heaps better. No RAM limitations I heard of. Just another thing to point out. I’ll look at my config tonight.
-
-
Yo TAY.
The Void is on sale via Steam for ~$2.50.
Pretty interesting game that not enough people have played. If you havent heard of it, its an Arty Survival / RPG-ish First-person thing with amazing atmospherics & a cool painting mechanic (sort of like Okami).
Probably not for everyone, but I think its pretty damn good.
/TAY marketing
-
Wait. better description – the bastard offspring of Okami, Bioshock & Amnesia : The Dark Descent.
This week, much akin to last, has been made infinitely better with the realisation that this weekend will be yet another long weekend \o/
Sometimes, just sometimes, life in the NT ain’t all that bad ^.^
-
Don’t say such things! 😛
-
Yeah wtf is Picnic day anyway?
-
Picnic day is best day \o/
Locally speaking, it means the community gets together for a day of jumping castles, egg races and sunburn.
Personally speaking, it means I get shitfaced in the sun with friends, attempt to play golf, and then likely ramble to TAYbies in the late afternoon/evening.
Historically speaking, I have NO clue why we have a “picnic day”. There seems to be so many public holidays here, it’s crazy.-
So really you didn’t answer my question at all =P
Great now I have to use google and wikipedia, I hope you’re proud of yourself.-
Ok wow. So it’s actually much lamer than i could have even imagined.
Straight from Wikipedia
“Picnic Day is a public holiday in the Northern Territory of Australia which takes place every year on the first Monday of August. It was originally declared a public holiday to enable Darwin’s railway workers to go to Adelaide River for a picnic.” -
BAHAHAHA, I have actually heard that before, and it’s pretty common knowledge. I always thought they were pulling my leg with that story though.
-
-
-
@Greenius:
EB have the Ni no Kuni CE up for order. $148, vs the 69 quid from Zavvi which is ~$105. Extra $40 or so gets you:
– Not having it disappear in the mail
– Not having to deal with Zavvi’s lackadaisical ship-it-when-we-get-around-to-it approach
– Extra exclusive DLC bits.
I’m probably going to swap because I really don’t like Zavvi much.
-
What are the chances of anyone else getting it cheaper? Wouldve hoped for maybe closer to $120 :/
-
Hmmm…
I don’t know what to do!
-
I’ll probably stick with the Zavvi order. They’ve been good to me and the last thing I ordered from them (MGS HD Limited Edition) arrived fine without any problems. I’ve already made the order so I won’t have to go through the effort of cancelling and re-ordering through EB and I also get the convenience of it being delivered to me (laziness ftw.)
-
I’m typing this on my phone, so premature apologies for bad spelling and grammar.
Misfortune in Msta.
We’d been traveling for hours, Foxtrot, Papa and I. Our eventual goal some mystical city to the east. We’d been zigzagging north and south, desperately raiding houses for food, and drinking fetid green water from the dams we could find. With my guns drained of ammunition long ago, I was on point with a hatchet. An effective weapon against the walkers, though less useful against other survivors. We paused east of Msta, a small town surrounded by open fields. A deer stand -often the location of abandoned military supplies- loomed over us. With the least to lose, I volunteered myself to climb its ladder, a rickety old thing,
-
God dammit, mobile phone. You are the worst.
-
[Please pay $0.99 for the next instalment]
-
Also, is Pyrean “Papa”? Because that’s weird.
-
Papa papa wheres my papa
-

and to scout the area. From the top, all looked clear. A large barn across the field, the small town, devoid of life, and mostly devoid of unlife, and at my test, a single magazine for my M16. With a triumphant smile I descended the ladder, and grouped up with my friends.
Deep in a huddle we discussed our options. The barn was probably our best bet. Possible food, and the chance that a farmer had left a gun lying around.
“Was that, gunfire?” Foxtrot suddenly interjected, his voice full of doubt. Papa and I responded that we didn’t hear anything, before he froze, turned and asked “did you guys hear that?”Foxtrot and I shook our heads, but we moved back into the forest. Better to be safe. Papa scanned the area, his rifle’s scope giving him the the best view. Bar the buzz of insects, and the distant groans, all was quiet.
“I think I might see something,” Papa whispered, “it’s, no nevermind. It’s just a hopper.”
With everything quiet, Foxtrot and I decided to go down, make our way to the barn. We crawled through the dirt, dust mixing with sweat, forming a nice cool layer of mud. I had to hatchet two walkers, it was quick though, and they didn’t cry out. A brief mercy. Halfway through the open field, we called back to Papa. Figuring that if anything was going to happen, it would have already, he followed us down the slope. With Papa halfway down the hill, I turned to Foxtrot, ready to complain about a hopper that had just missed us, when his head disappeared, replaced by a crude facsimile of blood and bone. With a start I turned, yelling at Papa to move. His face followed my advice, moving across the ground, leaving a trail of gore behind it. I threw caution to the wind, and I ran.
Back up the hill, shaking with fear, gasping for breath, and hiding beneath a tree, I heard a gunshot. I clenched my eyes, hoping that I could avoid my fate if I couldn’t see it, but all was well. I heard a scream in the distance, maybe the gunman, maybe another victim, and so I ran. Southwards I went, over hills and roads, past houses and trees until I reached a dam, where I let the water envelop me in its sweet release.
-
Why is it only f4ction and I seem to hear gunshots?
I know that they’re directional, and walls block 50% of sound (as I understand it), but that Assault Rifle fire was clear as day to me last night at Cherno.
It’s… odd.-
Anyone playing tonight? I’d love to join in. Got the night to myself
-
Chances are, yes!
I think we’re all split up now, with Blaghsy finding a safe spot, f4ction and Pyrean dead. I don’t know where Rocketman is, and I’m in the woods NW of Cherno. We’ll have to try group up again. -
Actually, we continues derping about, and ended up in some heated firefights at Balota airfield, which we’re just north of now. Also, F4ction now has the pack that’s better than an Alice. So good.
-
PICK ME UP SOME AKM AMMO PLZ
-
I wrote at the top of this page what happened to me last night.
I found a military medical camp. Lots of supplies and a working HELICOPTER!!!
I tried to fly it but it didn’t take off – bugged I think. BUT you can carry 6 people in it and it has 2 door mounted machine guns on the side….
Also I died from a prick who glitched through a fence.
-
-
I’m kicking around the town near the spawn point. Even on empty servers, I can never find any resources to defend myself with, but I’d be willing to give it another try.
-
There are multiple towns near multiple spawn points, You’ll have to be more specific.
-
-
-
I’d love to join in this weekend too guys, these stories are getting me superhype to play!
Any Aliens fans about? Who like comic books/graphic novels?
-
Yeah, I read a few of the Alien books. Some of em are good.
Well, they’ve got the vibe of the films right, but the story in some of them is a bit odd. eg: In one of the ones I was reading, why is Newt still alive?
-
Maybe they don’t regard 3 as canon?
-
^this^
-
-
Those were written either before Alien 3 or act like it doesn’t exist. Due to canon issues, after the release of Alien 3, they had to retcon the characters of Hicks and Newt to Billie and I forget the guys name.
The reason I ask if there are any fans is because due to an admin error, i received 2 of these instead of the one i ordered.http://www.darkhorse.com/Books/16-794/Aliens-Fast-Track-to-Heaven-HC
So i have one to give away 🙂
-
*Chriping crickets*
Guess nobody wants it then?
-
Mr Freeze would like it, according to the Twits. Apparently TAY won’t work for him right now.
-
Does he now? OK, ding ding ding we have a winner!
Just have him contact me at aaronanddel at yahoo.com.au
-
-
Freeze mentioned on Twitter that he would love it. TAY is not working on his phone right now.
-
Good thing I refreshed, I was also about to say Freeze wanted it haha
-
-
What do you mean Alien 3? There’s only two Alien films.
-
Lol, I see wut you did there 🙂
-
I… liked Alien Resurrection! *gasp* (Would’ve LOVED it if it was loyal to the Whedon script too.)
-
-
Got dat Spotify? I’ve got a few collaborative playlists going, please feel free to drop by and add some tunes 🙂

I have been informed by Steve-O through Blaghman that Nyancat is most excellent coding music.
-
When I’m doing any programming for my game, I will usually turn to the Scott Pilgrim game soundtrack. Effing hell I love that ost
-
Hi, TAY.
I have a pounding headache…
Most likely from the over-abundance of McDonalds I ate last night….
How is everybody?
-
Last match of bowling for the season tonight, still thinking about whether or not I should go back for next season
-
Not too bad, I am seeing the Batmans on Saturday \o/
-
Nice lists! Spot quite a few gems in there, might discover some newbies myself here. that first Flying Lotus track always reminds me of The Gentleman Losers, like this song http://open.spotify.com/track/35iIWkIlG61CVmLsI7JgrY
-
Ergh, reply fail 🙁
-
My turn to be generous.
I have a bunch of art books that are sitting in my bookshelf, some of which I have never cracked open. Fast running out of room due to ever expanding game collection so out they go.
I’ll post an updated list tonight since I can’t recall exactly what’s there but I know:
Darksiders Comic and Art book
Modern Warfare 2
Fallout 3
Duke Nukem Forever
Dark Souls
-
Is the Dark Souls one the little one from the Limited Edition? I don’t recall them making a proper art book.
And is the Darksiders one from an EB pre-order? I have that one and it’s pretty awesome, I’m not a huge comic/graphic novel fan but I’ve always appreciated the art style of them. Fans of Darksiders should definitely check it out 🙂
-
Joe Mad = Awesome.
-
I never grew up with comics so I didn’t know who he was until Darksiders but I thought it was particularly cool of him to actually judge the Darksiders competition Kotaku had a while back. He also has an awesome art style too.
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/01/joe-mad-picks-your-darksiders-comic-winner/
(did any TAYbies actually enter/win this?)The 2nd pic with the dragon is by a friend of mine 🙂
-
-
I think the Dark Souls one is an actual book, but as I said I’ve never looked them so can’t be 100% sure.
And the Darksiders one is that one. I have looked through that one and it is pretty sweet.
-
I’d like to express interest in the Dark Souls one if it’s an actual art book (I have the small limited edition one). Isn’t the Souls series one of your favourites though? I know I’d be reluctant to give up something for a series I love :P.
I love art books and art but I generally tend to just look at them in detail every now and then. I’m sure there’s bigger fans of the Souls series than me who would appreciate the book more than me so give it to them over me 🙂
-
-
-
I wouldn’t mind the Darksiders comic and Art book. I’m halfway through the game and an Art book would be nice.
-
I’d fething love the fallout 3 one if you are willing to send it to perth 🙂
-
I am interested in the Dark Souls one if it’s not the Limited Edition one… but only if Greenius decides he don’t want it. (And I mean actually don’t want, not the typical Kotakuite nice ‘oh, it’s okay, you can have it instead’ kind of don’t want)
-
Ah, kept reading down the page, and I think it’s the one I have (from the Ltd Ed box). Oh well.
It’s a very pretty book though.
-
Er potential spoilers (after some help in Saints Row 3)
TAY! Saints Row: The Third on PC, can anyone help me out, i’m after a STAG N-Forcer, but since I finished the game and took the alternate ending I can’t get one now, apparently if I joined a MP game with someone who either took the alternate ending or hasn’t finished the game but is upto the part where STAG have a visible presence I can get one this way and put it in my garage. Turns out the vehicle theft missions wants you to get one, and I read this is the only way to get one after you complete the game with one ending. Which is something I wish I had known before I did this.
-
Yup. You’re locked out of that one unless you can get one in your garage.
Actually, I think I have one in my garage. I think I have all the STAG vehicles unlocked simply because they all seemed to unlock from doing the missions.
-
Oh. You can redo the final mission, take the other choice and that might unlock all STAG vehicles for you.
-
Yeah I was wondering about that, but it wasn’t mentioned on the forums so I assumed it wasn’t viable. But I reckon i’ll give it a shot, what’s to lose really. I’ve taken over the entire city & done all challenges lol.
-
-
The shop I was working in yesterday which is my usual one had the key machine break on me. Have to wait until Friday for a new part. A female co-worker and friend rung me today complaining about 4 people who, upon being told that the machine was broken, asked if she was sure she wasn’t just waiting for the man who was there to come and do it.
I feel bad for bursting out in laughter when she told me.
-
Oh dear haha, some people.
Probably the best thing to come out of the Source Filmmaker so far:
I really hope the free-to-play model helps SWTOR.
There’s a really good game in there. I played a heap when it first came out. PvP was pretty solid back then. Really enjoyed the flashpoints. I felt there was enough endgame content at release. People said there wasn’t, but how much do most MMO games come out with at launch?
I’d still be playing if all my friends still played. I had to stop playing a lot when my son was born and just kinda never got back in to it as all my friends had quit by after a while too.
-
I’m just hoping people at LucasArts don’t assume there’s no interest in the KotOR setting. I’d really like to see a single player KotOR3 eventually, I was hoping there’d be room for both an MMO and regular RPG.
-
I doubt it would be done by BioWare though, now
-
Let’s hope not. I’d vastly prefer to see Obsidian do it.
-
Or even better, CD Projekt
-
-
-
-
I might be willing to give it a go. I was kinda curious about the game but I can’t justify subscriptions games anymore when I’ll often only play it for a few hours a month.
-
I thought it was good. But I’ve said before, it really needed to come out 5 years ago. Sure, it’s a WoW clone, but there was enough different I felt. And they really had a lot of good ideas in there.
The individual class stories themselves are worth playing through for.
-
-
It was okay, but too old-school WoW-like in areas where everyone had moved on. Grinding for days to get tokens to get gear to be able to survive instances, for example, because moving to a 4-man model from 5-man effectively prevents the group from carrying an undergeared player. My friends all geared up because they were getting on at 6 when I wasn’t home until 8, and they had had time off where I was working so I was later getting to 50. Didn’t really feel like grinding on my own.
Additionally the combat always felt really off to me. I don’t know what it was, maybe just my class, but the abilities feel like they don’t have enough impact to them. Sounds and animations not strong enough. Maybe not enough damage. Poorly differentiated abilities – I have six different big whack buttons that whack slightly differently, what sequence do I hit them? Does it even matter? Enemies too strong a lot of the time as well, especially given the number of times you end up having to grind a group of enemies when your abilities are often balanced around the assumption you’ll have a bunch of debuffs up to improve damage, but there’s no quick way to get said debuffs up on a group. If I only do decent damage with 5 stacks of sunder armor up, but it takes me 30 seconds to get that up on a single mob, then it ends up feeling amazingly slow.
Add to that the fact that the whole game massively underperforms on hardware it shouldn’t underperform on, had massive issues with graphical lagging, animation lock-in and glitches that persist still… also there’s only so many variations on brown robes and stormtrooper armor before you get sick of stuff, even leaving aside there seems to be only about 20 gear sets in the whole game. And I personally really hated the feeling that it was all disconnected areas rather than a contiguous world, which has to be one of WoW’s biggest features.
-
Combat did feel clunky. Though I think a patch changed the way it worked a little.
I guess the world did feel sparse but maybe that was lack of players and too many servers as well?
Personally, I like grinding, I don’t know what it is, but I just love doing nothing that feels like I’m doing something 😛
I think they added in higher textures and fixed a lot of graphical problems too.
there is a good game there, they just need time to sort it all out imo.
-
Just started Spec Ops: The Line, really liking the atmosphere and attention to detail. The Hendricks’ anthem over the main menu, the highway of abandoned cars. Sign me up for what’s bound to be a light hearted adventure… 😛

One of the best elements for me was the way they keep blaring 70s music over the radio in firefights.
-
Man this game sounds better and better the more i hear about it – i just won a copy from Gametraders the other week, so i might have to make it my next in line?
-
Yeah, man. If you’ve got it I can’t recommend it more! Foreboding atmosphere a-plenty.
-
Anyone want to play some Killzone 3 MP at some point in the future?
-
Me? 🙂
-
I haven’t played it since it came out but if you’re really looking for some extras then I’ll join in.
I somehow managed to finished my second shameless gaming without completing a single game. It’s weird as I normally finish my games. I just seem to keep playing jrpgs during this time which take soooooooo damn long.
-
I did exactly the same thing. Almost. I finished Lollipop Chainsaw. Which I purchased in July. So I don’t think it counts.
-
Two from two!
@Masha: The Darksiders stuff is yours.
@Greenius: It’s a 48 page Hardcover with a soundtrack and making of DVD as well.
I still have Fallout 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Modern Warfare 2 and I also found some weird Space Marine 20 page promo book.
-
Thank you Freeze.
-
Yeah that’s the one from the Limited Edition (which I already have). Turns out they actually released a proper Dark Souls art book but I doubt you would of given that away.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvH27okPVJM so pretty!
Thanks anyway :).
-
i put this up there, but i’d like to request the fallout 3 one!
but that’s only if you are okay with sending it to WA (i’d pay for any shipping if needed to)
-
Tis yours. My brother lives in Perth so I’m used to sending stuff there.
Email me binoter at hot mail.
-
-
Wait, what’s going on?!
-
SPACE MARINES!!!!!!!!
Just decided I want to try to incorporate my x360 into my PC case, because reasons, such as space-management. Anyone here have any experience with such wizardry?
I’ma go look for stories/plans/info on it, in any case.
Stay tuned!
-
Tape? 🙂
-
-
Pretty much, yeah. I bought mine secondhand, so voiding warranty is a non-issue for me. Of course, I’d prefer it if it still worked afterwards 😛
-
-
So it looks like I’d be going off of circuit diagrams, trying to splice the PSUs together. I’d also need an HDMI splitter/switch, and I guess I can feed the audio through my soundcard so as to eliminate the need for manual unplug/replug or another switch.
There’s not much documentation I can find so far in the way of others doing this DIY style. Must dig deeper!-
Scratch the PSU splicing, my fingers got confused. Theoretically, I won’t need the X360 PSU whatsoever, it’ll be powered by the PC’s PSU.
-
You should document your progress
-
-
I’m sure this is relevant to the interests of some people around here.
http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2012/07/30
Also, I’d be the guy in the second frame if I ever play that game. I should probably avoid it.
-
That is beautiful!
I don’t play, but i love watching other people play, and especially love watching them fail at it.
I, also, believe I would be of the second player variety. Another reason not to play.
Who’s had experience buying from Zavvi? If I buy a 3DS XL today, what are the chances it’ll actually arrive before the Aussie release on the 23rd?
-
I hear Negative Zero has plenty of glowing reports for them.
-
They’re incredibly unreliable. Also for something that expensive I’d want it shipped with insurance, not via regular might-take-a-week might-take-three-months untraceable untrackable uninsured Royal Mail, which is all Zavvi offer.
-
So the details on the International Shipping page are just wrong?
http://www.zavvi.com/articles/international-delivery.list
From ~$12 for a week delivery time.If I could guarantee the week, I’d do it. The 3DS is a birthday present – for myself – and the 23rd is about a week on the wrong side. I don’t mind the wait, but it’s actually my girlfriend’s present to me – she’ll be the one upset if it doesn’t arrive on time.
The price works out to be exactly the same, so for all the hassle, I think I’d rather just grab one at JB/EB on the day.
And what’s going on with the prices at Play-Asia? $350? I guess they’re buying them in HK dollars and seeling in USD then converting to AUD?
Oh, but they have the Konami Style MGS3D limited package…. only $520… FFFFFUUUUU 🙁
-
I’ve never seen another option of shipping from Zavvi other than the standard free/£1 one. 5-7 working days? No.
Play-Asia is likely to have the US or Asian/Japanese region though :P.
-
They look as though they’ve branched out on versions since I last visited.
$350 is for the European 3DSXL
It’s ~$299 for the US model and ~$325 for a Japanese model. -
Oh, I just started to take the 3DS through the Zavvi checkout.
The tracked shipping for it works out to be ~$96.They’ve just made a non-customer for life.
-
-
Also, minor quibble but you get the Club Nintendo Australia points buying here
-
-
Me! I buy from them semi-regularly.
I give it 50/50 chance. Sometimes they take forever.
Let me know what it’s like if you end up going through with it/it gets here early! 😀
I pretty much always buy from them and they’ve been fine. Just don’t expect anything to arrive super quickly. Lately they’ve shipped from Germany and Sweden so rather than the usual 6-10 working days it’s been more like 15. I’ve found that bigger boxed items tend to arrive quicker so it’s likely you’ll get it before the 23rd but I wouldn’t bet on it. At least if you get it slightly later, it’ll still probably be cheaper than buying locally.
You know what the best thing about having a sore elbow is? Getting out of chores. More specifically, getting out of hanging up clothes. I haven’t been near that clothesline for about 3 weeks now! \o/
-
Oh Lambo – what has mother earth wrought upon you to leave you this frequently OOC (out of comission)?
I suspect you may actually be my own personal saviour – taking all the hits that were rightfully intended for me… ?
Suffering for my sins, as it were… ?Sorry about that mate, but keep up the good work! Cos I’m doing just fine, despite what I probably deserve. 😀
-
“Messiah of pain” That’ll sound good on my resume! Thanks! 😛
Oh well, at least my pain isn’t for nothing, it would seem.
-
Oh. My. God. Jurassic Park. At the bottom of the page.
I want to go to there!
(Link, because it probably won’t be there tomorrow)
-
Sunshine coast meat for the grand opening?
Interesting DayZ events!
Man, I hope f4ction uploads that footage.
-
Will you be on tomorrow night? I want to try and meet up with you guys. Although I may need to find some food, water, medicine, weapons etc first
-
Yeah! We’ve been on a pretty heavy DayZ kick the past few days. Pop on TS and we can arrange to meet up!
-
Awesome, I’ll try to avoid getting everyone killed 🙂
-
We’ve been doing a mighty fine job of that for ourselves, to be honest.
-
-
-
-
I’ve heard varying degrees of struggle with getting DayZ to play nice with people in terms of installation etc. Depending on how long it takes, I’d love to join you guys tomorrow night, too!
-
Also, I don’t know how many of you guys playing tonight/still playing are going to read this, but we should raid a supermarket at some point. We’re good for medical supplies, ammo, but we should grab food and drink and head north, hopefully away from Cherno and Elektro.
-
I’ll be on tonight, probably around 8pm.
-
-
Interesting for those of us who lived through it….
16.75Mb down, .81 up.
THANK YOU, POWERS THAT BE!!!
-
Whyyyyyyyyy?? :'(
I only live 10mins away from civilization (hahaha, did I say civilization? I meant to say Ipswich) and you live out the middle of nowhere, yet your internet is roughly 32 times faster than mine! /o\-
Typical speeds are much lower, 750K would be a good estimate for average d/l speed. That was my speedtest.net result after realising that TAY didn’t take a minute to load.
I was on 64Kb/s for the last week /o\
-
-
-
I has 71ms ping, although the “nearest server” is in Adelaide. WTF?!
-
-
Seriously, you get that on a 3G connection?! That is 2x as fast as my ADSL2+ connection Q_Q
-
ADSL2+ at home, 3G/NextG at work and for mobiles.
-
Wait I thought you lived on an island that was serviced by 3G, I am so confused.
-
I may have gotten the 2/3/Next -G services confused, perhaps. So far as I know, I have ADSL2+ at home, with an average d/l of 500-750Mb/s. Mobile service is restricted to NextG, and the infrastructure hasn’t yet been set up for ADSL services where I work, apparently.
Here, we run both a NextG modem, along with a satellite link for our mailserver + Terminal Services/Remote desktop. -
That should read as 500-750Kb/s, not Mb/s…
I can’t do the brain, today. -
Ah cool! Yeah Next G is the only service Telstra pretty much offer these days & 4G haha.
-
-
-
I’ve never understood these things… :/. In terms of downloading how high would that get a second? Mine averages 200-500 but the highest is probably 1.2mb/s but that’s rare.
-
Internet speeds are quoted in Megabits usually. To convert to Megabytes, divide by 8, so if you have a 6mbps connection your maximum theoretical speed is 750k/sec. However that’s an extremely naive calculation because network transmissions usually include a few extra bits for parity, error correction etc, and TCP/IP is broken up into packets, and also your upstream bandwidth can throttle the downstream speeds (because you need to send back acknowledgements of packets received and requests for more) and in the end download speed is limited by how fast the server can get stuff to you.
…I’m so jelly right now…
Just spent the last three hours having hooked my tower up to the TV via HDMI, whilst testing to see if I could get the surround sound work via the optical audio input on my motherboard, then watching some South Park on it through my portable had drive…
The whole thing worked like a charm, but the novelty wore off quickly.
-
That’s when you start playing games on it! 😀
-
ALL THE GAEMS \o/
-
-
Let me know if you get surround sound working.
I feel like sometimes it works in BF3, but it’s hard to tell…
I should get some sort of test MP3
6 o’clock starts are horrible. Here’s hoping I can leave at 2:30 at least!
@Mawt
I placed an order with Zavvi on the weekend and the shipping rates were being glitchy for me as well. For all my previous orders they’ve only ever had one option for shipping and that was the standard one. The biggest most expensive thing I’ve ever bought from them was the MGS HD Limited Edition but other than that it’s just been standard games.
I put an order for 2 games and the shipping was £75. WTF! I figured since one was a special edition it would cost more to ship but I made 2 separate orders and they both came out at £1 each. Were you ordering anything else with the 3DS? How much is it at Zavvi anyway? Amazon had it for $200 a while back but I’m not sure if it’s still their price.
-
Nothing else with the 3DS. I could choose either the £1 untracked standard or £65 tracked.
Zavvi have the 3DS listed at £168 which comes out to ~AUD$250 – EB/JB have them listed as $248.
I’ll have a look into Amazon and see what they’ve got.-
I’m hoping that Kmart or someone does a cheaper deal when it’s released here (even though I paid more than $250 for my original 3DS anyway :P)
-
That’s what I’m still holding out for too. Pleeeeaaaaase, pretty please with sugar on top let this happen!
-
-
Wooo, Dead Space 2 and Rock of Ages are the two new games available for Playstation plus members. Now I just have to figure out a way to finish the first game.
-
Damnit! Another game I already have 😛
At least I won’t have Rock of Ages but something tells me I’ll have the next 2 games as well 🙁
-
Sorry, man. Rock of ages looked cool and the demo was fun so you might enjoy it. Also Dead space 2 is 11GB though, so I guess you’ll save on some hard drive space.
At this rate I think I might need a new hard drive.
-
I have Dead Space 2 on PS3 already :). Maybe we could do a TAYbie multi sesh? I haven’t tried multi yet.
-
-
-
AAARRRRGGGHHH
“There is not enough space on the hard drive to complete this operation”
Aaaaaaarrrrrrggghhhh!
-
I was getting the same messages 🙂
-
-
AWESOME! 😀
I don’t have either of those! 😀
Uuugh.
Need coffee.
-
get me one while you’re out?
latte. large. extra shot. maybe some banana bread too. toasted thanks.such a champ. thanks for doing this, Rize.
-
Triple-strength espresso, an affogato and a babycino (luv dat foam, yo).
Oh, can you get me a ham+cheese+tomato+avocado too? Little bit of salt and pepper.True friend, you are!
-
Not an entire ham, that’s an extraneous request. Just a croissant with the above
-
-
Nothing for me thanks.
Sydney Taybies, it’s been confirmed I’ll be at Sydney on training next Tuesday through to Thursday. I’ll be staying at a hotel in the CBD, not sure which one though, will keep you all posted when I know 🙂
-
Aww man, I’m there Friday 10th! So close
-
Wait does business techy wear a suit. cause i want to see that. 🙂
-
Nah, this is for training, so I’ll be in neat casual, my standard attire 🙂
I barely ever wear a suit, despite how much I’ve been told I look good in one (By my family… yeah shut up :P)
-
Mum says I’m handsome ^.^
-
Hahaha pretty much.
Truth is I’m repulsive to strangers, girls like to stay as far away from me as possible 😛
-
No, far from it in my world, friend!
The ladyfolk love me! In a completely platonic fashion, which is fine aside from the whole platonic thing. Not that I’m a horndog or anything, but sometimes you just meet someone that makes you feel fuzzy :3
-
-
-
Okay I’m going to be staying at Rydges World Square on Pitt St 🙂
King sized bed! \o/
I’ll be there from next Wednesday too, good timing!
-
Sweet! Dinner meat hopefully!
Don’t worry. There’s only one CBD.
-
Then where the hell did I go? O_o
-
I believe that was called Royal X….no that’s not it ahhhh Kings Cross was what it was called
-
Hey fronds!
I am in Sydney attending a funeral today and flying back to Brisbane tonight. I probably won’t be on TAY at all today.
-
Sorry to hear that human 🙁
-
Oh man. That’s horrible. Hope the day isn’t to hard for you, man.
Back from getting coffee. They were out of the things everyone ordered, so I just got my own thing. Also, I’ve been back for ages.
-
You tried at least, that’s all I ask for man 😀
On the other hand, after thinking about a hamcheetomvocado croissant, I REALLY want a hamcheetomvocado croissant. This needs to be remedied when I get home.
-
Thank you for mentioning that as I’m heading to work. I’m totally not going to spend all day craving one now.
-
I’ll post a buildlog when I get home, if I can find a recipe on how the hell I make a croissant. \o/
-
Yeah, I really want one too, now 😛
-
-
I still haveart books for DNF, MW2 and a Space Marine book if anyone wants them.
-
SPACE MARINE!!!!!
-
You want it or just shouting Space Marine? I’m confused.
It’s yours if you want it.
-
I’m very interested =)
What exactly is it? Is it from the game? If yes then I would love it!-
It’s some 20 page colour book with a bunch of background on everything and stuff from the game. Kind of like a proper instruction manual from days gone by, when they were good and worth reading.
Email me binoter at hot mail.
-
About the size of a standard comic book.
-
-
-
Taking a week and a half off from work. Don’t actually have any plans, just using up a bit of leave to sit back and relax.
Might try and do a Let’s Play in the time off. Record the whole thing in one go. Considering my Arkham Asylum one fell apart when the footage for the last third of the game fell apart, maybe I should just use the New Game Plus playthrough that I was considering doing.
-
Do a Farmville LP!
-
And as we can see, my friends are jerks and never visit my farm or whatever it is that they’re meant to do here. So my farm is languishing.
Screw this, I’m going to play Harvest Moon.
-
seriously, do a harvest moon LP, i wanna see who you choose to marry and what crops you plant
-
Considering that the majority of that game is about the daily routine, it would be incredibly boring.
That and I lack the patience for that sort of game these days.
-
-
-
-
Sounds good
@Azza Documentation will be made, most certainly. Only if any progress is made however, as there’s not much info out there aside from “OMG LOOK AT THE BIG O”, or how to mod my 360 for portability.
I’ll be sure to post here with any further details I scrape together. If I manage to make some headway, I’ll probably start a tumblr or wordpress or whatever it is the cool kids are smoking these days, so as to prevent cluttering up TAY any more than I already do!
-
Fantastic. Look forward to it
Finally saw the Batmang last night! Anyone else think Bane sounds like Darth Vader as done by Sean Connery…I found him difficult to understand in some scenes…otherwise, i enjoyed it 🙂
-
I thought he sounded like Deckard Cain
-
Yep, I can totally understand that…’Shtay a while, and lisshen…’
-
Yeah Klutar and I talked about that a little on the way back to Flinders Street 😛
-
-
-
I believe you’ll find that he sounds rather like Bartley Gorman.
-
I couldn’t understand him either at times, I felt distinctly guilty I defended the trailer about that very thing. 😛
-
Your punishment must be more severe 😛
-
-
He sounds a bit goofy and silly 😛
-
No you.
-
-
I liked his voice for some reason. A bit comiccy and out of place in such a serious movie but I think it made it a bit more entertaining. I couldn’t understand half the things he was saying though, but I couldn’t always understand Batman either (I think the cinemas I went to had the sound up a bit too loud).
-
Actually I think the problem in a lot of cases was the music. So bassy I could hear some distortion in the sound in the cinema a few times, and they didn’t dip it enough when Bane especially was talking at some points, so you’ve got super-powerful bass music and his kind of muffled voice gets lost in the mix a bit.
-
-
\o/ I wasn’t crazy when I thought that.
Hello TAY. I am currently melting together a few video files from our most recent DayZ adventure. I WILL LET YOU ALL KNOW WHEN IT IS DONE!
Note that due to lack of free hard drive space there are a few stutters as I’ve had to use my silly ‘green drive’.
-
STUPID GREEN THINGS
Also, Spleen and I were thinking of heading to Elektro or Cherno to grab some food and drink, and then head North, away from Death Central on the Southern Coast. Obviously not all in one night, but that’s our general plan. You game?
-
Probably not able to join you guys for a while. We’re sitting outside Berezino (third main city, east coast) at the moment getting set to raid it for supplies. There’s a few hospitals, some supermarkets, military camp, apartments etc.
We could probably meet you guys somewhere on the east once we’re away from the deathfields of Berezino (seriously, it’s like THE MOST OPEN AREA EVER).
-
That’s okay!
Stay up near Berezino, we’ll figure out what to do. Maybe we can round up Nova and Aleph who were keen to play tonight.-
Not having a map/compass all I know is that after I spawned on the beach I ran in a direction for 10 minutes then turned right and ran that way for another 15 minutes. From that highly technical and accurate description, do you think you can find me? 🙂
-
When you log in, there’ll be words on the bottom right of the screen. It’ll give you a approximate location.
Clouds travel from West to East.
So with those two things you/we can get a rough idea where you are/where you’re heading and we can meet up! -
I know who I want with me in the case of a zombie apocalypse… Oh wait
-
I’ll try joining in too! I think it said I’m near Tulga.
-
-
-
GREEN THINGS ARE BEST THINGS
Did you get much footage of josh?
-
Pretty much the whole encounter from my perspective. But I ran over the hill when someone said to leave.
-
Ah damn, I thought you were one of the ones who stayed till me and bluemaxima died.
-
I see you get shot in the footage, off in the distance
-
Yay I’m famous!
-
-
Sounds good f4ction, do we get a David Attenborough style voice over or just the feed from TS?
-
TS feed (and you can’t really hear me, so hurrah!)
Hey TAY
I finally finished Final Fantasy XIII last night. I have…no idea what the fuck happened there.
XIII-2- Worth it?
-
Was the WTF based on the story?
In XIII-2 the story is even more stupid but I found the gameplay to be better overall. It’s pretty cheap so if you liked the battle system of XIII then you should probably check it out.
-
It was the story at the end that just lost me. I’m used to final bosses in FF being insanely weird but the whole section was kinda…yeah.
Might give XIII-2 a miss.
-
XIII-2 is the best game I’ve played this year. Haven’t played many but yeah, I even like it better than The Last Story.
-
is XIII-2 as linear as XIII?
coz that was my main complaint about XIII. I thought the combat system was great, the story was fine, progression etc was rewarding.
the only other thing about XIII i didnt like was Vanile’s engilsh voice actor. Theres something about Australian accents in games that just sounds a bit wrong.
-
The thing is, I didn’t mind Fang’s voice, and she wasn’t actually Australian!
-
I didnt know that. Pretty good accent she’s got going there. But I must agree, I didnt find Fang’s dialogue anywhere near as annoying as Vanile’s. but then again, that was maybe down to charactisation.
Still, the most annoying character is totally Hope.
-
I actually used Hope for most of the game. Vanille annoyed me way more
-
-
Fang was my fave thing about the game actually. She was like these guys are losers (to a certain extent), lets just get shit done. I was all ‘hear, hear!’
-
-
It is far from linear. There’s a fair amount of choice of where/when to go next due to the time-travelling mechanic. The combat system is similar, but you can also capture enemies to join your team which is fun.
Oh, and there’s almost no Vanille. 😛 -
Excellent. I will most certainly play this 🙂
…at least until the FFX HD port is out :p
-
Haha, based on that last line I’ll pick it up now. Just got to finish XIII already… still running around the open world bit enjoying that side of life
-
For the $29 or so you can pick it up for these days I’d give it a go. I enjoyed it much more than XIII.
You told me Xii last night! We had a discussion based on two completely different games haha
-
I mistyped, sorry!
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/08/john-carmack-and-gabe-newell-excited-about-this-virtual-reality-gaming-headset
BRING ME THE FUTURE NOW!!!!!!!!!!
-
I just want my damned hoverboard.
-
That would be good too, but it’s still a pipe dream where as VR has existed for years, it’s just never been properly brought to the public for some reason. I guess cost used to be a huge limiting factor.
-
Dead Island. Worth it for the GOTY edition at $40 or not really all that great?
-
I thoroughly enjoyed it 🙂
Don’t know about the DLC but i really liked the game(although i still haven’ t finished it) -
That seems a bit expensive, I thought the GOTY was like 20-30? I’ve played it for like 2 hours and its average like I expected, glitchy as well (at least on PC). Good fun co-op with friends though.
-
Dunno about the DLC, but its got a good mele combat system,, pretty standard RPG elements & horrible voice acting. The majority of the launch bugs have been fixed (on PC at least). &Its pretty fun with co-op.
If I was gaurenteed to have 3 other people to play with for the duration, I’d pay $40 for it.
Or you could wait for the sequel / prequel / whatever the hell it actually is thats hopefully due early next year…
X-Men First Class 2 will be based on Days of Future Past.
YES.
-
For the non comic people, what does that mean?
-
Days of Future Past is an X-men storyline where Kitty “Shadowcat” Pryde’s older self possesses her younger self to warn the X-men about the shitty future she comes from. Basically, because a Senator was assassinated, in the future all mutants are herded into internment camps by giant robots called sentinels and experimented on. so the X-men have to stop the assassination
Given that the films have featured Magneto’s internment camp history quite a bit, the parallels and the motivation for him at least will be pretty clear cut.
-
The fact that I could regurgitate that mostly from memory is kinda scary.
-
Isn’t that pretty much the same plot as Wolverine and the X-Men? I’ll go ahead and assume they based the show on that comic storyline.
-
Similar. Also similar to the story with Bishop in the original animated series.
-
-
That sounds pretty rad actually, would make for a great setting if they keep the same quality of acting and character development. Is it still Fassbender and ah… whatshisname, English guy from Atonement?
-
-
Have you watched any of the animated series?
-
@Klutar: I actually like grinding in MMOs most of the time too. Hell, I played to about level 65 or so in official Ragnarok Online and that was 100% grind. Though I do have to admit the grind in WotLK to get the Argent Hippogryph nearly broke me thanks to that fucking jousting stuff.
However I didn’t like grinding in SWTOR at all, because I didn’t like the way any of the classes played. I couldn’t get a rhythm up and had to constantly be stopping and considering how to approach each pack to avoid adds etc otherwise I’d have to burn multiple cooldowns to survive and stuff. I feel like the game’s not well balanced, not in terms of classes relative to each other, but the abilities themselves. Too many of them which are not well differentiated from each other, too much situational stuff, etc.
Possibly I managed to always play bad classes for me and never found one that clicked properly. Wish they gave you a way to change advanced class.
-
I really miss Ragnarok Online, despite that I had no friends on that… and my build was done completely wrong lol. I LOVED the combat though, all my attacks felt like they had weight.
-
Maybe, I played Sith Inquisitor and Bounty Hunter and found both of them ridiculously easy to grind through.
-
I played Jedi Guardian to 50 after starting on a Scoundrel and being disappointed that it was all focused on punching people and kicking them in the nads but being unable to change to Gunslinger without rerolling and having to re-do the exact same content. I also had a ~30 Trooper but accidentally deleted, that was easier to play with but by that point it was my third time through the exact same content and I was just getting incredibly bored with it.
None of them felt anywhere near as fun as my WoW experience (FWIW I have an 85 DK and 85 Paladin, both of which I raided through WotLK with, DPS and off tanking, and also had a feral Druid I got to around 75 before quitting) and I was lured away from SWTOR by Tera, which is amazingly fun to play except I was getting animation lag issues and no one I knew was playing so I got behind and lost interest.
There is something about WoW that feels ‘right’ where so many subsequent MMOs have just not felt good to play. I’ve tried almost all the major releases since, and I was still going back to WoW in the end until I began to get tired of the same thing after all those years.
What I’m currently eyeing is FFXIV. I played it when it released, unfortunately, and it always felt like it had the core of a really good game hidden underneath all the unfinished and broken shit, so the whole 2.0 rebuild thing is really interesting to me and I’m looking forward to giving that a go.
-
RANDOM QUESTION TIME!!!!?!!
When it comes to cooking, whats your speciality? What are the dishes that you enjoy making & subsequently nomming on?
Personally, I like to think I make totally kicking vegetarian fritatta, quiche & lasagna. also creamy pasta sauce with stupid amounts of bacon.
I’m also looking for a bit of insppiration for other things I wanna try making…
aaand…… GO!
-
my speciality is yelling at pez
-
Getting quite deft at rice dishes, chicken risotto and a semi-traditional paella (chorizo, prawn, chicken) are my top dishes at the moment.
-
I made an amazing steak sandwich once that I’ve never since been able to replicate. Does that count as a specialty? 😛
-
Green Chicken Curry. I’m pretty good at a bunch of things

Nuthin’
My specialty is making crappy but satisfying meals, using one fork, one saucepan, and one plate/bowl.-
I envy you o.0
I manage to level a kitchen like Little Boy leveled Hiroshima.Except my fallout is delicious.
-
I shared a small, ill-equipped kitchen with 6 other people for a few years. I had one smallish cupboard to myself and the fridge was slowly dying, so I couldn’t store many ingredients or keep fresh ingredients for long.
-
OH! That reminds me of when I was in a similar situation. My food was stored in my cupboard in my room, and I had some eggs and butter in the fridge, that was it.
I managed some amazing things cooked on nothing more than a sandwich press. 10min self-saucing omelette was my favourite.
-
-
I manage all the destruction with none of the deliciousness
-
-
-
I’m not very good at cooking in general but lately I’ve been making some really good chicken and mixed vegetables stew. I don’t even use any spices, which is kind of nice since in the past i’ve filled my dishes with spices to counteract my crappy tasting food. Having this meal with some spaghetti or rice and a pinch of salt is great.
I also like cooking with bananas, a few here and there to add some texture and flavour. I currently have an idea for a mashed potatoes and mashed bananas mixed meal in my head. I haven’t cooked it yet but I’m thinking of trying it over the weekend.
Otherwise I don’t cook a lot.
-
If I were to put it down to one dish, I’d say rendang daging. I don’t “excel” at any particular dish though, I’ve got a pretty mean vegetarian goulash/ratatouille/hotpot thing, eggs benedict, and clove-stuffed miniroasts are fun too.
I learned the secret to good sticky rice a few years back, which is why I put my curry on top of that list now 😀
-
My go to dish is grilled chicken coated in cumin, paprika and chilli with lemon juice and garlic (just sprinkle a little olive oil on chicken breast and apply those spices liberally). Normally with a side of chilli and mint cous cous and grilled capsicum.
Takes bugger all time to prepare and tastes pretty decent.
Throw in some flatbread and hummus if you want to feel a little fancier.
-
Take me now.
Seriously, that sounds amazing. I’ll wear a pretty dress (sorry Lambo!) and you can wine and dine me.I’m going to have to try that this weekend!
-
But but bunny is a insufferable twat, maybe it would work better if you gagged him. I would have dinner with Trjn if he was gagged.
-
Works well with lamb, just needs a different balance of spices. You’ll work it out through trial and error.
Lately I’ve been adding a pinch of cardamom to the mix too.
Stole this one (the general idea at least) from Jamie Oliver’s 30 Minute Meals.

-
TOASTED SANDWICHES!
-
I don’t really have a speciality, but I can cook a lot of stuff. In terms of reception of my cooking, I’ve gotten the best responses to the raspberry & white chocolate baked cheesecake I do periodically. I also do a pretty good Carbonara (doing it properly, no adulterated recipe that uses cream or anything). Generally I cook what I feel like eating at the time, and prefer stuff that’s not hugely fiddly. The most time-consuming thing I do periodically is gyoza, but that’s very simple to make, just takes forever to fold them.
-
Lasagne (meaty ones), white sauces, chicken madras, risotto and chicken soup :p
@Mawt: When I last ordered with Zavvi – which was last week – they only offered standard slow untracked shipping. So if they now offer proper shipping that’s something pretty new I think.
The intro for Regina Spektor’s “All The Rowboats” has got me all kinds of caught up. The impact of the percussion reminds me of ‘that part’ in Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight”, but the synth, I can’t seem to place it >.<
Evanescence perhaps? Driving me bonkers. What do you guys think?
-
Hmmm… I dunno… just kind of sounds like mess of hits really, doesnt sound like anything to me! I dont mind her songs myself, but her lyrics bug me. I’m always thinking… what the hell is this woman on about
-
Oh wait sorry, my mistake. I thought you were talking about the end part of the song, not the intro XD
-
I like that I can ignore what the lyrics actually say in most songs. Regina Spektor says some goofy shit.
Her cover of Real Love is pretty amazing though.
-
But I thought that was Björk?
>.-
Haha, yeah Bjork is queen of lyrics that make no sense
-
-
-
I dig.
Just renewed the Minecraft server.
Thanks to Bish and nob for fronting the cost while I’m unemployed.
-
Come to think of it, I haven’t checked out the MC server in a month or two. I wonder what it looks like now.
-
It’s… immense.
-
-
Get a job ya hippie :P… On a serious note thank you
Hey gang, sticking my head in for a bit. I’ve been mostly absent for a while with newborn stuff and before that it was me being distracted because a baby was about to arrive and trying to get work done ahead of me being away from work for three weeks. Anyway, it’s all going well, and here is me talking about video games:
I bought Splinter Cell Conviction off Steam for $5 during the sales and to my surprise really really loved it. I really dig the new direction, even though ordinarily this sort of “dumbing down” grates. It just seems to work with this game. It’s a lot of fun.
Less fun is the silly Ubisoft UPlay system. It has deleted my progress. The first time, I was able to restore it by following some simple instructions posted on the Steam forums, but then it did it again. Also, unlike games like Skyrim and Batman Arkham City and Deus Ex HR, it doesn’t run well on my system. After about 5 minutes of play it manages to squeeze a playable framerate but it can’t handle some cutscenes at all.
So I went onto Ozgameshop and bought the game on xbox. I used a “player points” voucher worth $10 so I only paid $8 for the game. Because the challenge mode is amazing, I’ll need to buy the DLC as well, which will probably cost me more than the game did. But this way I get a working product that has the added benefit of split-screen co-op.
I’m back at work today which is a little sad, but it’s a good job so I should just buck up and get on with it.
Cheers all!
-
I want Conviction on PS3, damnit!
-
Me too, I have been wishing for a PS3 port for ages.
Also speaking of ‘dumbing down’, I’m of two minds about it. On one hand it sucks when it’s a series you love but at the same time I wouldn’t have gotten into some genres without the ‘casual’ options.
I think the best things for developers to do is for them to make games with layers of depth Easy to get into but it gets challenging and more satisfying as you go along.
-
-
I played that on Xbox 360 shortly after it came out. Saw some preview stuff and thought it’d be nice.
A pretty decent game. Fun but not amazing. I did like the art direction and use of black and white while stealthed. Tried the co-op, turns out my friend and I don’t do stealth together very well.
-
It feels slightly unpolished. It reminds me of 007 Bloodstone which unimpressed everyone and I picked up in a sale and just loved. There’s something about this style of game that I love. Some “stealth lite” coupled with a feeling of being very deadly. The Arkham games scratch that itch as well, but do so with great polish and impressiveness.
-
Unpolished sounds pretty accurate.
I remember some stealth sections dragging on because I couldn’t safely move to where I wanted to be (a problem the Arkham games doesn’t have at all, Batman is crazy mobile).
-
I find Conviction operates firmly on the melee+mark/execute rhythm. It doesn’t really seem designed to sneak through a level, but just to hide long enough to get behind someone and then quickly headshot the other three guys in the room and then move on. There’s a cool scene in the White Box Laboratories where you mark three guys by peaking under the door, then you can drop onto guy#4 through the skylight and then execute the three marked dudes. This is a good example of Conviction in a nutshell, I reckon. I’m only up to the Lincoln Monument though so far.
-
That tends to fall apart when there are stragglers. You’ll come across them more towards the end, at least I did.
It’s been a while, so my memory is a little fuzzy.
-
One thing I didn’t like about previous Splinter Cells was how good the eyesight of the guards was. I like my stealth games to be games – eg a cone of vision and a stubborn predictability in their movements. Splinter Cell guards could spot my left foot sticking around a corner from 400 metres away. I like the concept that when you’re in darkness you can’t be seen.
As for stragglers, I did come across this in the challenge map I tried (so awesome). At least you can “bank” your execution, so you melee the second-last dude and as soon as you see the last dude you can execute him.
-
-
-
Conviction is great fun. Though are you having any problems with your PC locking up while its running? tis frustrating.
Sneaking… sneaking…. lining up a shot……*freezes* waiting… waiting… 3 mins later… screw it. *reboot*
-
No, the gameplay itself runs fine. It’s on transitions and cutscenes it struggles. I was happy to put up with it, but not put up with UPlay screwing with my saves.
-
The longer name for the service, UPlayTheSameSequencesAgainAndAgain, didn’t rate well with a focus group.
-
Nice. But I’m not playing the scenes again. I mean, I have no trouble re-playing them for fun, eg on a harder difficulty, or just to play it again, but in circumstances where I don’t know if it’ll keep my progress? Nuh uh.
-
-
I liked Conviction on PC – I think I got the steam version too….
BUT I still like Chaos Theory better. I think the story was better and the stealth was better.
Still enjoyable though. Wish I had someone to play co-op with….
-
*ME* *ME* *ME* *ME* *ME*
-
Ok I’ll add you to steam and we can give it a crack.
-
Have Nintendo realised they’re sitting on a goldmine and added the ability to download DS games on the 3DS yet?
-
If I could get my hands on Trauma Centre 2 that way, I would definitely start using my 3DS again.
-
I’m more thinking back to my DS experience. I had a R4-style cart so that I could copy all my games onto it and use them on the go without having to carry around a billion cartridges and I wish I could do that legit. Also a lot of the reason I hacked my PSP was to do the same. I’ve been buying my Vita games physically because I like physical and also because the 32gb memory cards are crazy expensive and not nearly big enough, but I wish you could dump the retail games to memory too.
-
That’s pretty much what I did with my DS as well. It’s so much better being able to swap what you’re playing on the fly without having to worry about carrying around a case with your entire collection.
It’s the same reason iPods and Kindles are pretty damned sweet.

-
Ninty realise something to do with online functionality? *checks magic 8-ball*
-
We need the account system first! Then they can go nuts (though they probably won’t :P). Hopefully we at least get GBA games.
Just had a staff meeting.
Paraphrasing:
“This TAFE institue is reuired to reduce operational costs by $5-10 million each year over a period of four years. Redundancies will most likely contribute to these savings. Also, the 2011-2012 financial year was the first year of this plan. Probably shouldve told you about this 12 months ago, but what are you gonna do eh? so yeah. save $20-40million in 3 years.
On the first of September, we are taking our proposal of how were going to accomplish this to the minister of education / premier. Whats that you ask? Whats in this proposal? Oh I cant say, because we havent written it yet. But rest assured, there will be a consultation process with some staff likely to be affected. Oh thats a good question. ‘Whos going to be affected?’ Well, were unsure at this point in time, but we’ll likely know in about eight weeks.
Why yes, you are correct. That is after our proposal has been submitted! You will eb consulted on this proposal after it has been proposed.
OK, I’ve been here for 25 minutes now & I’m starting to feel dirty. So I’m going to go drive off in my motherfkn ferrari & go have lunch.”
tl;dr uppper management are total shits.
-
Do you guys like buses? Aren’t buses great? You know the best part of the bus? The underside.
Man, you guys are so lucky that I’m throwing you under the bus. You get to see the best part!
-
Bugger.
-
Sucks man
-
Wow. Are there actually any managers out there who arent dicks? I seriously think I have never come across one. Ever.
-
Ah, my unnecessarily circuitous plan to get #35 to come and work in IT in Canberra has taken its first step! Mwahahahahaha!!
Here’s hoping that all ends well and you aren’t negatively affected by this crap.
-
theres one fault in your plan sir, and it is this:
When I get to canberra, I’ll go insane, because Canberra. Then, in a fit if delirium, I will jam you into a cars boot & take you back to civilisation / Sydney. I havent planned further ahead, but after that, I’d assume my insanity will have passed. & you’d be free to go. With the added bonus that you have escaped Canberra.
-
That sounds pretty great! I’ll go tie myself up and wait out the front of my house for you!
-
is that what you say to all the ladies?
-
-
-
-
thanks for your concern guys. I dont think it’s gonna affect me personally, but even if it did, I dont know if i’d worry that much. Always something to move onto 🙂
I was more posting this to point out the weirdness of management mentality.
Morning all. I feel so much better today but I’m still not allowed to go back to work till next week. Bosses orders
-
Wow, it must suck having to sit at home and game like mad…
/envy 😛
-
You’d think so but I just dont. I have no drive to play anything atm. (only playing BF3 and DoW2 with mates and non of them around at this hour)
-
When I was home with the ‘flu a few years ago, I sat in bed and watched an entire season of The Wire. I also played through Condemned 2 twice. Good times.
-
You sat in bed with Flu and watched TV together? What did your wife think about this?
-
Mannequins *shudder*
-
Oh man, that level was awesome. Such a good game. I want a Condemned 2.
And the bear?
-
*Condemned 3. Woops.
-
They were both pretty damn good games. According to wikipedia there is rumours of a third. Gogo rumours!
-
-
-
-
(I thought we were going to keep this between us)
-
Nice experiences are meant to be shared.
Dishonoured. Apparently out Sept 28
/Discuss
-
Looks interesting, gonna buy it but probably not till next year so any release date for me is fine atm
-
The week after Borderlands 2.
Difficult decisions will have to be made.Though, I’ve got a pre order on BL2, so I might wait for a few weeks before getting Dishonored. Because it looks great. & I do want it.
-
DASCHUND CHEST
-
-
A few games out around then.
BL2 and WoW expansion I have both on pre-order (which even though I have quit WoW, I’ll play the expansion :P) -
Awesome.
-
I thought it was out Oct 11?
-
Honestly dishonored hasn’t impressed me much, way more excited for borderlands 2
-
I am equally excited for both.
-
-
I don’t understand why everyone’s going nutty over this. It looked like a vastly less interesting or thought provoking Bioshock knockoff from the material I’ve seen of it, which admittedly is not that much.
Hive mind!
I need your help/advice! I’m contemplating applying for a job at the Apple store doing the fixing thing.
I’ve heard mixed reports on what they’re like to work for. So, does anyone know anyone who has worked for them before and what it’s like?
-
Haven’t heard much about them, but a crap job is better than no job in terms of money. Grab it, and if you don’t like it, keep looking for an upgrade.
-
I hear it’s busy. My soon to be brother in law works at one. But he is a massive fanboi and a design graduate so I would say a bit biased. I haven’t heard him complain though.
Last time I went into one (to talk to the said brother in law, not to touch any apple product) it was so busy I mistook it for a kindergarten.
It actually blew my mind how many people where there at about 4pm on a Sunday. I really can’t comprehend it.
As for repairs – do they even do that or do they just give out a new one? I guess laptops they might fix… -
(This may sound like Apple bashing but is strictly personal opinion and observation from a professional standpoint.)
I do not work directly for Apple but I work for a company who does repair work on their behalf. (3rd part reseller/repairer.)
From my experience dealing with Apple I would not work for them even if it was the only job in town.
Mostly I really dislike they way they do things and their hyper controlling “screw you over with a smile” business ethic.
Also a couple of peeps at my company who have worked at Apple in the past have said there is no way they would do so again. As far as repairs go Apple computers are dead easy to fix, but I think you would have to be a huge fan of the company and products to enjoy it there.
Now back into the night like batman…
-
Thanks for the feedback guys. I applied. As Rize said, job is better than no job. Although, judging by the forums I also read, apparently having already worked in IT I’m over qualified for the position 😛
@Effluvium: the Bishop story in the animated series was days of future past, they just used Bishop in place of future Shadowcat
So I was playing Unreal Tournament 3 recently, and the Bishop character has as one of his comments during a firefight, “I never asked for this”.
I just got 14 identical messages from blizzard saying my account was locked for suspicious activity…
-
Sounds legit
-
Did you get banned for ‘vulgar voice spam’ in game chat?
I’m terrible at not offending people through voice chat apparently.
-
I havent used my battlenet since about a month after diablo 3 came out…
So I’m extra confused
-
I never even bought Diablo 3 and I’m getting them on my email too, I’ve counted 4 so far
-
-
-
YOU HAD BETTER FOLLOW THOSE LINKS RIGHT AWAY AND CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD. Also, I hear your Runescape account is in the red zone, and your penis could be extended by a factor of thousands.
Also I greet you amicably at this time as I am a princess greivanced by the unfortunate assassination of my beloved husband and wish for you to kindly send you money to the banks here to release the funds owing to me. This is urgent and must be completed before the close of business tomorrow immediately my love, they are sure to find out otherwise. Do not tell anyone of these communications thankyou because assets will be freezed.
Also my lawyer and my doctor will contact you with further instruct, thankyou.-
The best “Blizzard account has been compromised” emails I get are the ones to the one email account I have that hasn’t been attached to a b.net account.
-
BUY IPHONE 7 CHEAP NOW!
Also, what the hell is Cialis? Viagra’s aussie counterpart or summin’?
Either way, BUY NOW CHEAP RUSSIAN PHARMACY

-
THE MESSAGES KEEP COMING
WHY CAN’T I HOLD ALL THESE IDENTICAL MESSAGES
-
Quick! send them your full name, username & password, home address & credit card number asap or your account will be deleted!
-
Don’t do this! It’s a trick!
Send all that information to me instead. I’ll sort it out.
-
-
Message count: 33
-
Wow, that’s a bit bizarre that you’d get them in such quick succession. Are they the completely bogus ones, or do they at least seem legitimate?
Might be worth double-checking your b.net account settings just to be sure, after all.
-
I woke up this morning feeling absolutely terrible, and I didn’t get out of bed until just after 1pm…
Yay. 🙁
-
Whats the matter LocoHombre?
I’ve had a shitty cold all week so far. its just enough to be uncomfortable, but not bad enough to warrant doing anything about.
oh well… hope you’re feeling better soon man.
Just came home with Season 3 of Doctor Who and Pokemon Conquest. Not a bad day
-
Another Conquestador has joined the ranks! 😀
-
Good season that one. Mainly because of Blink. Also, Martha is a one of the better companions of the revival.
Only better ones are Lady DeSouza & Amy Pond.-
Considering I’ve only watched season 2 so far, I only know Rose…. I’ll get back to you as I work my way through it all
-
Good.
Damn those people who like Donna Noble. They are objectively wrong.
-
Martha’s first episode is glorious. But not long after that she started to bug me. To each their own, of course, but she’s not one of my favourites. 😛
-
-
David Tennant, my favourite doctor. Though I haven’t watched a lot of the older doctor who shows or a lot of the newer ones either so I could be biased 🙂
I really need to start on the Matt Smith series at some point. Maybe later, there is a lot of stuff I’m watching now.
-
That’s DS right? Is it region locked on 3DS/DSi like the other Pokemon games? I’ve never played a pokemon game but I’m a massive sucker for Sengoku stuff.
-
I don’t think it’s DSi enhanced, so I doubt it’s region locked. Might want to give it a quick google though because I can’t say for sure.
-
Yeah, it’s DSi ‘enhanced’ so I’d need to import it to play on my 3DS when I get that later this month 🙁
-
-
” I’ve never played a pokemon game”
wut?
-
First Nintendo system was a Gamecube, which I purchased for Metroid Prime, Wind Waker and Tales of Symphonia. My first Nintendo handheld was a DS, and I stopped using my DS around I think 2007 – last game I remember getting was I think Phoenix Wright 2. I can’t confirm because I lost all my DS games when I moved house a couple of years ago. But yeah, I basically stopped using my system around about the point the first DS Pokemon came out and I’ve never really felt compelled to check it out.
-
-
I had to stop myself today from introducing myself to someone as ‘Batgirl’.
YOU’VE RUINED ME, TAY.
Oh, and HAI!
-
ohaiyo
-
Why would you stop yourself doing that…. *shakes head*
-
At least it wasn’t ‘Jugs McMelons’
I keep typing/texting meat instead of meet before realising and having to change it :/
-
You didn’t have to…
-
I think improved, not ruined
-
I was wondering about this a while back. What is the naming/introduction conventions put in place for meats? I mean, I know some people’s given names already, though still refer to them as their respective pseudonyms.
Also, slightly different social conventions if you were introducing yourself to a non-TAYbie I guess 😛
Should’ve just run with it!-
I share a name with a prolific, much more liked TAYbie, so if I ever went to a meat I’d call myself D.C. 😛
-
Mostly we use our site names. Which is why you get stories of Bish running around Central station yelling “CAAAKESMIIIITH!!!”
-
That is just a little bit amazing. Why have I not heard this fable prior?!
I’m totally going to try to attempt to organise a meat when I’m next off the Eylandt, wherever/whenever that may be!
-
You’ll find it partway through this write puny Bish from a meat we had earlier in the year.
-
*write up by Bish
-
-
-
-
Normally we go with handles because that’s how we first think of each other.
Some of us use each other’s real names, depending on the person.
And almost everyone calls me Rabbit or Bunny.
-
I still call you trojan I think. Which always feels weird because I think of norton anti virus every time
-
I was going to mention that. You try and use everyone’s real names but just can’t quite manage it with me :p
-
I think of condoms…
Yours is better…
-
I think of the City of Troy. 😛
-
Story time!
When I was a youngling, back in high school, I went through a handful of online handles. The last one I can remember was something like BluDuck (a reference to the Dilbert cartoon episode where he takes over the art industry with a clipart of a blue duck). Got sick of that one and started using Trojan Rabbit, from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I needed an AIM account to chat to some American friends. Trojan Rabbit was taken, trjnrabbit was not.
Somehow, this was the name that stuck. For quite a few years, I didn’t even know that Trojan was also a brand of condoms.
Now one of the alt accounts I like to use is CndmBunny.
-
“Trojan Rabbit was taken”
… Um, l-look, if we built this large wooden badger…
-
<3 Dilbert
-
-
-
What does Virus make you think of then?
-
herpes
-
=(
-
HAHAHAHA! Ahhhhh crap… awkward
It’s something that is so varied, both from social circle to social circle, and even from person to person within each group.
Many many moons ago, I used to be a very active member of a Star Wars fan group. We were all pretty good friends that would meet up at least once a month – to the point that it was actually rare for us to meet up for a Star Wars related reason; there were many BBQs, Movies, beach days to be had. Although we knew each other’s real names, some people were always referred to by screen handles – even when being introduced to people from outside the fan group.
Personally, I will answer to Mawt – although it’s pretty close to my real name, so that helps.
Also, there are some people for whom their handle fits them better than their real name. Like Bish. He’s definitely a Bish if ever I saw one. Which I have.
-
I get kinda scared when I think how quickly I started responding automatically to Nova
-
I know what you mean, to an extent. To me, my handle(s) are just another nickname. Some people know me as Peaches, whereas others who have known me for 10+ years know me only as Bob. Online, I’m typically known as Synth, although I’ve kind of changed from that to Aleph in the past year or so.
Social constructs are intriguing things, to say the least!
It is normal to use your screen-name at meats, although often your real name is used if being introduced to none TAYbies.
Although at the latest Melb meat there were people introducing themselves s Joel. I still have no idea who anybody is
I introduce myself as Freya. It’s a girl’s name…and my name :p
I like to imagine this is a challenge super heroes face every day.
-
Hi I’m Bat Wayne
I MEAN Bruce Man!
I MEAN BATMANThat is the true ending to dark knight rises
Ha ha, I’ve considered just using Masha as well for my day to day encounters. Being a shorter version of my surname it’s much easier to pronounce compared to my usual surname.
@Aleph The few meats I’ve been to people have referred to each other using their TAY names.
I use Wii Fit while I run on the treadmill, I like the interactivity of it… or atleast I like it in theory. It annoys me so much you can’t set how long you want to run for and have to keep restarting. There’s about two variations on running tracks, I’ve run ’em so many times that it feels like I have lived on that island for years. The memory game thing is cool in theory, except the Mario logo is ALWAYS in the same place. The dogs always run in the same place. The moles are always in the same place. Here’s hoping there’s more variety in the Wii U Fit! Bah!
-
(Before someone says it, no, I don’t want to run outside damn it. :P)
-
But… I just discovered this today and want to go running now:
http://www.zombiesrungame.com-
I… don’t have a smart phone. :'(
-
Oh awesome, it’s on Windows Phone now.
-
-
-
I like running but never do it. I have a treadmill but it’s never used and the other option involves going outside *shivers*
I miss the good ol days when I used to be fit 🙁
-
Just have to get a routine going, man. Place the treadmill in front of a TV solved a lot of problems for me. 😛
-
Thing is I don’t really watch too much TV :P. I tend to do most of my viewing right here on the computer where I “acquire” TV shows and whatnot. Although we do have one of those things that lets you plug in a USB and watch shows on the TV so I should probably learn how to use it and get fit!
But I’m also incredibly lazy :/… I also got an exercise bike recently but it’s not facing a TV. First world problems right there.
-
Haha, yeah, you’ve got to want it. I put off getting in shape for so long, but when I hit 25 I figured if I wasn’t going to be fit now as a young guy I never would be. Wasted potential and all that. The thing is it doesn’t even matter what’s on TV, just a distraction. I even watch Sky News from time-to-time, rolling coverage is horrible and I wouldn’t do it without the treadmill but it does the job. 😛
-
-
I did this with an exercise bike and a HTPC. Worked fine until everyone started doing 10-bit h264 encodings that I couldn’t view. 🙁 Replaced that system just recently but haven’t really gotten back onto the bike much yet.
-
-
I tried Outside a few years ago. Graphics were crap, the gamma was set way too high, the save game system is terrible and it won’t let you pause.
-
I am getting really tempted to go hunting down all the DS games I missed out on after stopping collecting them. Which is to say, all the Layton games, DQ IV-VI and IX, all of Phoenix Wright after the second one, and a few other randoms bits and pieces.
I bet most of them are out of print now, knowing my luck 🙁
-
Layton and IX should be easy to find but you might struggle with AA. Remember there are other ways 😛
What did you think about the AA games you played? If you gave up because you didn’t like it just know that 2 is the worst and 3 is one of the best. It ties up some lose ends and really made me love the series so much more. Apollo Justice is good too but I still prefer playing as Phoenix 🙁
-
I honestly can’t remember, it was ages ago. I don’t think I finished either of the two I had, I think I got annoyed that I could see the answer to various puzzles but didn’t know exactly what to press or when to object or whatever to pull it together. Sometimes it got a bit esoteric or obscure. Maybe that was the in the second one?
I had about 15 DS games IIRC. All gone now. 🙁 Need to go hunting through all the remaining boxes in our garage and turf some stuff we don’t need any more, hoping I’ll stumble upon the box that my oldest games went into in the process.
-
Checked and the first two Layton games are discontinued in the US it seems, and hard to find in PAL areas too. Might have to go hunting. DQ IV and V are way out of print too, and VI might be as well but the stock hasn’t bled out yet.
-
Most of the AA games are out of print too, which kind of sucks. I’m sure I can track them down though.
-
-
Yeah 2 was the weakest, 3 is fantastic, also don’t forget the miles edgeworth game as well! I really enjoyed that as well
-
-
I saw the first third and fourth Layton games as well as DQVI in jb today.
-
Yeah I should probably first go hunting. With any luck I’ll find them discounted or preowned for cheap.
-
Yeah the later games for the series you mentioned would be easy to find. I know there was plenty of Laytons during that Dick Smith ‘sale’ earlier this year. DQ should be easily imported from the usual sites but eBay or some other sort of pre-owned place would be your best bet for AA. I think I saw Phoenix Wright once in a local JB but I’ve never seen them since.
-
I actually was going to head down to DSE to try and grab exactly those games, but then I checked my local one and they had none of them. 🙁
-
Knox was packed 10 minutes before it opened so a friend and I went to Fountain Gate and even after 30 mins or so (when pretty much all the good stuff was gone) there was plenty of Laytons
-
Well Forest Hill had been picked over pretty thoroughly already 🙁
-
-
-
Stupid day.
Hurry up and be tomorrow, already.
Hmpf.
-
I couldn’t agree more! When it hits tomorrow I’ll be finishing work in an hour!.
I had a horrible nightmare last night
I dreamed that I was paying battlefield (well I was the character, but then when you play something you are the character anyway) flying over a desert map as a passenger in a helicopter. Spot two damaged tanks on the ground and an enemy repairing one of them.
I jump out of the chopper, parachute down and steal the freshly repaired tank and try and shoot the engineer but I miss and he makes it back to the other tank. We proceed to have a battle tank vs tank. I should win easy since his tank is already severely damaged but every time I hit it his tank immediately begins to heal itself. Thankfully he’s terrible and keeps missing me.
I figure there must be another engineer repairing his tank but I can’t find anyone! This goes on for about 10 min until I decide I have to try something different and I ram his tank with mine, push it out of bounds and wait for the timer to kill him. The plan works, he dies, but I didn’t get the points.
I didn’t get the points!
-
This nightmare would have been a lot less nightmarish if you had found ten points at the end.
-
I know right? I mean all that and no points at all? I’ll be traumatized for weeks to come.
-
-
Have I ever told you guys about my dreams? :3
-
D: the craziest shit must happen
-
Oh, well, most of them are somewhat grounded in reality/have a connection to my real life. But then you get those weird ones that have no connection to anything that’s happened in your life at all, except for something small and random that gets forgotten about 5 seconds later anyway. Like the one I had where I was schoolgirl helping my friend stand up for herself and not let the popular girl push her around. Wat. The only thing connecting that to my real life was a burrito I found on the ground and ignored…
-
where I was *a* schoolgirl
Stoopid phone. -
Wat indeed! Also wat at you being up at that hour :O. What happened to the crazy go to bed early and WAKE UP AT 6AM (madness) Lambo?!
-
I was playing DayZ. I was going to get off at 10, but then I lost track of time… BUT I FOUND COKE AND PEPSI AND A PISTOL SO IT WAS ALL WORTH IT! 😛
-
-
-
@Bish and Nova and Lambo and others!
I got DayZ running, I think… what time are you guys starting?
total count of e-mails sent to me by blizzard: 70
really not sure whether it is real or not… links seem to be fine, but it’s all suspicious
-
Starcraft 2 just had a major patch, sounds like as good a time as any for scammers to try their luck.
-
At least it wasn’t 70 increase your length/girth emails.
-
I have a heap from Blizzard with warnings about my Diablo 3 account.
I’ve never played Diablo 3…
-
Well, I get nearly 10 per week regarding a Diablo 3 account. Which I don’t even have. I’m guessing lots of phishing.
So I built a HTPC/Media Server today. Sadly it was not for me, but my mate. Everything you see there came to just under 600 bucks.
Which is pretty good imo since it had; 6TB of storage, 4GB ram, Intel Celeron CPU, 22″ Monitor, Silverstone HTPC case, Logitech keyboard with touch pad (which is awesome!) some el-cheapo logitech speakers which are surprisingly decent all running under Ubuntu with XBMC for the media stuff!
Then once it was all built I witnessed my mate format ALL his drives including the one we took from his PC which had ALL his TV shows & movies on hahahaha. We had a good laugh.
Oh and we also broke his PC \o/ which we could only fix by by reinstalling Windows!
-
I used to use XBMC but find that Plex is miles better at everything except rendering subtitles.
-
I’ll mention it to him! I think what, he likes so much about XBMC is the whole Android remote app he has for his phone and such.
-
-
Nooooooooooooo data loss!!!
I really should get around to building a server.
-
Oh god I know it’s the worst =( i’ve been there TWICE with the same HDD, both my own fault though!
-
My worst one was when I was reformatting my C:. I had everything already backed up on another HDD so I went and did it but while I was formatting my back up drive crashed and died.
-
-
-
really under 600?
i’ve been thinking of making my own as well, and that price seems quite nice
-
Yeah, monitor & speakers he got from PC Case Gear, the rest we picked up at Umart today! Boots to Linux in around 10 seconds if that.
-
Pyrean and I are trying to work out what rockband/singstar type games we should have for the meat. Anyone know what the best one is these days?
-
Singstar Queen is the obvious choice.
-
Tonight we’re gonna have ourselves a real good time…
-
Yes! This. And not that love ballads version or w/e, so bad =P
-
We had that at Can’d Meat 2.0. It was glorious.
-
IS THIS THE REAL LIFE?
-
-
-
ABBA. Obviously.
-
THE ONE WITH BARBIE GIRL ON IT! 😀
Oh, found what i’m getting. Singstart – Dubstep.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron demo is out!
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron demo is great!
Everything feels so much tighter and more refined than War for Cybertron did. The whole thing has a lot of polish, and the multiplayer customisation options look redonkulous. And it finally has host migration! Happy days! Bring on August 22!!
-
I’ll probably pick that up for cheap(ish) when I go down to the EB Expo. I’ve yet to play through WfC. though. My brother bought it today, so I’ll just play his copy xD
-
Hmmm gotta play that demo this weekend, I reckon the MP of the first one is great (if a little hazardous – there’s really no benefit to being careful or camping or even aiming down sights – instead you have to go in an hit-and-run on your opponents to take them out)
-
Thoughts about the demo. The graphics are indeed more polished than the original (and the original is one of the nicest looking games in my collection) but they seem to have simplified the multiplayer somewhat (no more grenades, no double jump, all robots feel slower and only one special power per bot) Not sure if I like it yet as much as the original.
-
Loops, I just received the shirt!
Thanks again, mate! 😀
-
Ahh great – fantastic stuff
You’re very welcome 🙂
The prevailing attitude of “if you don’t play X amount of hours then you aren’t really a gamer” in the average age article is really annoying me.
-
Yeah, I play games there for I am a gamer. That’s how I see it, I don’t feel I have a quota of hours per week I have to accomplish just to prove I am a gamer. Some weeks I don’t play games or if I do, it’s next to nothing.
So watching Game Grumps has made me go back and re-watch Sequelitis. Watching sequelitis made me think about MegaMan 9 and 10, both of which I bought and never finished.
Man, MM9 has some pretty poorly designed sections! Even in Galaxy Man and Concrete Man – which I believe to be the two “easy” levels – there are one or two bits that are just bad.
I mean, I’m still having fun, but the poorly designed bits stick out and I just think “Whhhhyyyy? Why would you not do that right?”
-
“Hey I’m Grump!”
-
“I’m not so grump!”
-
“And we’re the GameGroomps!”

OHMAIGAWD L4D2 tonight was awesome! 😀
I played briefly with the TAYbies before joining with some other friends to play through the campaign. I had absolutely no idea that L4D2 has the whole of L4D (DLC and all!) in it, kudos to Valve for that since that was a pleasant surprise.
We also played some Versus and it’s pretty fun except I’m so horrid at it. My friends and I met some Japanese players who completely dominated us over and over again… and they even toyed with us towards the end :'(
We definitely need to play more of it 😀
Well, after a fun night on Day Z with everyone (thanks to Inquisitorz for not shooting me on sight) I decided to call it a night at a bit after 11. But I seem to have found myself playing Pokemon Conquest for the last 2.5 hours. Funny that. I think I’m getting used to the mechanics now, making allies, warrior skills and such. It looks like it will be good fun. One question though, do I have to physically collect the dropped items off the battle field or do I get them at the end of the battle even if I leave them alone?
-
You only get the items that you pick up during the battle (both dropped and items already on the field). I used to aim to get every single item, but you really don’t need to worry if you miss a few. I’m pretty sure you have to buy all the rare items so you’re not missing too much.
-
Yeah, I haven’t picked up anything terribly useful, and I never use items.
That said, I don’t know how to combine items.
-
Attention Brisbane TAYbies!
Strike Bowling, Wednesday, 8pm, kgo.
They also have laser tag.
-
Laser Tag is awesome! It’s where I get my money laundered!
-
Really? You seem more of the car wash type.
-
I GET IT, I GET IT! Yesss, I’m one of the cool kids too
-
References!

-
I like in episode 3 of s5 – “Hell… no”
-
HAHAHA, I wish he didn’t say no to that =(
-
-
-
I may be able to do that.
-
I can probably shuffle things around to accommodate people. Just figured it would be easier to give a set time and then adjust instead of faffing about.
-
Sup sup?
-
Hey Schafer
-
Hey Sugs 🙂
-
I’ll do a full update on monday as I will be out today, but yes the US was epic.
Also my shameless gaming month has gone well, ZERO GAMES FINISHED 😀-
Saaaame. I bought a few, started a few. Fail.
-
-
FRIDAY! \o/
-
We all know what everyones lookin forward to
Skyrim expansion $25… meh.
Entire skyrim game $30…
Another Australia tax departs with no more than a whimper?
-
$5 more for Dawnguard in Australia…sigh.
Although, Skyrim being $30…if people were thinking about it, now is a pretty good time.
Adelaide looks like the set of a horror film this morning- one of the thickest fogs I’ve ever seen in the city
-
I had that yesterday morning on the way to the train station. I thought my programming put me into a Silent Hill simulation
Went to a school orientation for my eldest’s first year of school this morning. man school has changed. Touchscreen whiteboards, iPads, using YouTube videos in class, google image searches (assuming safesearch on), forced nutrition breaks, ergonomic chairs and social learning desk layouts.
I just had a row of rickety old wooden desks and a teacher scribbling chalk on a blackboard.
-
I know right! Funny thing is though every teacher my son has had thats tried to do parent/teacher info nights using the new whiteboards has no idea how to use them properly. I just sit there uncomfortably thinking errrrgh just… press that button there…
-
Try teaching them how to use it. They’re…not……good.
-
-
Holy Poopsicles!
Is your kid going to Space Camp? Or perhaps some kind of wizard school? Like Rincewind Armstrong’s School for Astromancy. On the Moon.
-
You’d think so but it’s just the local public school.
-
-
Hah, yeah they have some of those smart boards in the newer Uni buildings. I’d never seen one before so I just assumed it was a whiteboard/projector combo. Then the lecturer pressed play on a video by touching the board and everybody was stunned haha
-
i just missed out on all that wizardry, my maths class in year 12 got a smartboard (the touchscreen whiteboards) and my teacher hated it because it took up too much space and got it replaced with a normal whiteboard instead.
apparently now year 7’s at my school are getting ipads -_-
Ubisoft has finally released footage of Connor fighting soldiers of both political persuasions.
-
I don’t believe you.
-
I thought I was seeing things when I saw that video. O.O
-
But now the entire US will die of a heart attack and no one will be left to buy the game. Poor business strategy.
-
Obviously they waited until everyone in the US had payed off their pre-order before they released that footage.
-
-
Ha ha, I noticed that as well when I saw the trailer this morning
I’m going to try and get a co-ordinated effort for Gangnam Style to be in the Triple J Hottest 100 this year.
Come December, expect to see it spammed everywhere I can.
-
You have a creepy obsession.
-
Try watching some Starcraft streams. The song is inescapable. I fell asleep watching ASUS ROG and woke up to Gangnam Style on loop.
Have to either embrace it or go mad.
Or both.
-
It used to be Bubble Pop, that still being showed? 😛
-
Sometimes.
Fortunately less often now, although Hyuna is in this clip too.
-
Yeah I remember seeing Hyuna in that clip 🙂
-
-
-
The problem is that the music video is the selling point. Not the music itself.
-
Not hard to spread the music video. I just showed it to some co-workers, they will most definitely be spreading it.
-
Yes, but it’s not Triple J Hottest 100 Music Videos.
-
That sounds more like their problem than my problem.
-
-
I youtubed this out of interest and now I cant escape D:
Gah! Of all the times to have a crappy PC. *misery*
Rise of the Triads is coming back.
-
Didn’t they say it would still be playable on a low end machine?
-
No release date yet. Plenty of time to upgrade!
-
Another reminder for the Briswegians. Strike Bowling, Wednesday at 8pm. With a mystery guest appearance.
-
Is it me? Am I the mysteryyyyy!? Caus, I just spoilt it.
-
Ya jerk.
-
Because someone keeps talking about it and I didn’t know what it was I decided to look up Gangnam Style.
What.
Catchy and funny as hell though!
-
please dont encourage him
-
Oo oo oo oo oo oppa GANGNAM STYLE!
-
My friends wife is Korean so I asked him to get her to tell me what it means.
-
Yeah but Gangnam is apparently a rich area or something, and oppa means something too, but it can mean different things so it was confusing
-
Oppa is something like “elder brother” but in the affectionate way someone might call someone who isn’t their older brother.
And yeah, I’ve heard that Gangnam is some fancy part of Seoul. Which would make “Gangnam Style” basically mean that’s a classy motherfucker.
-
Yeah something like that is what she said.
But there’s different dialects and what not, so it’s hard to know which way he means in it.
-
-
That guy is a hero.
What did I just watch.
-
What did I just watch again
-
The most amazing video known to man.
Comic Book Fronds!
I am wondering if Days of Future Past is available in a neato collection.
In the lead up to The Dark Knight, I wanted to share The Killing Joke with people that had not read it and I was put onto DC Universe: Stories of Alan Moore which is amazing not just for including Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?.
So I’m wondering if anyone knows of something similar – either an Uncanny X-men collection or a book with some Claremont choice cuts?
-
Digitally here: http://www.comixology.com/X-Men-Days-of-Future-Past/comics-story-arc/960 are the individual issues, the two Days of Future Past issues have been issued as a single TPB.
I don’t think they’ve done a best-of Chris Claremont because he wrote X-Men for like 18 years.
-
Hmm. Unless I can share the digital versions, it kinda defeats the point.
I had a look in Kinokuniya yesterday and they had two, big, hardcover tomes – One was an Uncanny collection, the other was a Claremont collection, neither of them had #141 and #142.
Maybe if I hold out til the movie actually releases, maybe Marvel will throw something together.
-
DS game obtainment update: I visited JB and it seems all the Layton games have indeed been re-issued at some point recently. However $50 each. 🙁 Going to hunt online.
No copies of any Dragon Quest or AA at my local JB however, so more searching required there.
-
Yeah I saw your discussion on this too late and was gonna say I’ve been after them too, but yeah, always too expensive. Even copies on ebay still go real high for them and Wright games 🙁
-
I can’t remember the last time I saw any of the Ace Attorneys in stores. I see DQ IX all the time though, so that’s a bit weird (assuming that’s the one you mean).
I don’t like that the more popular DS games rarely get pushed down in price though :/
-
DQ IX but also the remakes of IV V and VI. IV and V appear to be out of print now. Also it seems the first Phoenix Wright is in print but the rest are not. They made many copies of #3 so that’s still around a bit, but Apollo Justice and the Edgeworth one both seem to be pretty rare. 🙁
-
-
I see the odd Justice For All pre-owned, but I assume it’s mostly because it’s the weakest of the four.
-
People pay for DS games??
-
I pay for all my games as long as they’re obtainable. I make a living off developing software.
-
Oven-reheated dippers for lunch…
Curse You, Pizza Hut…
It would have been Crust, but they don’t deliver to our area… 🙁
On an unrelated note, Play-Asia has free shipping on all items until August 31st.
Go! Go! Go!
-
Free *standard* shipping.
Good morning my TAY pals. Is anyone else excited for proper rugby (Rugby Union and the greatest team of all time at everything ever the All Blacks) season starting in the next few weeks?
Also new AC trailer means people can finally shut up about bias marketing.
-
No interest in rugby I’m afraid! I don’t like any team sports, really 😛
By the way, what time zone are you in CJ? You always seem to say Good Morning in the afternoon and I don’t know if it’s intentional or not haha
-
He said he was near Parramatta!
I told him to come to a sydney meat, but I think he was too busy groaning whenever I called him ‘AEF’.-
Correct I am only a few burbs over from Parra so I’m on Sydney time. I just spent 2 years of getting up in the afternoon I got used to calling it morning is all. Also I’m too chicken to come to a meat in case you all secretly hate me and just want a RL opitunity to show it.
-
You’ll not know that until you come to a Meat ;D
(But seriously, no pressure :P)
-
I know I do! 😀
See you at the next meet?
-
See sounds terrifying
-

ALL BLACKS?!?!?!
HEATHEN!
I’ve lived in Australia for over a decade and been a citizen for nearly as long, but I can’t bring myself to support the Wallabies instead of the All Blacks. It makes me feel dirty.
I was going to post something in the Gaymercon article, but I just couldn’t bring myself to hit submit.
Still, I need to get it off my chest and typing it out and then closing the Tab didn’t really cut it. Plus I think that you guys might just read it for what it is and not demonise me for actually questioning the “why”. I didn’t proofread so it’s probably a mess and makes me look like a derphead, here we go:
–
I guess I’m out of touch.
Someone wants to create a videogame convention for people of all creeds and colours.
Call it Gaymercon.
I guess I’m out of touch; I thought “gaymer” was a catch-all phrase for gay gamers. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s probably been appropriated by any LGBT person who plays video games.
It inherently excludes straight people.
Maybe they don’t mean to; maybe they want it to be “Everybodycon”. It doesn’t feel like it to me. It’s ok, I’m not offended by the thought of an actual “gaymer” con. I am, however, a little offended by these “nested” communities that insist they’re either a) accepting, or b) not a community.
I’m a little confused. LGBT groups campaign for “acceptance” by the “greater community”, but also want to hold on to the LGBT identity to segregate themselves from, say, me – a Straight White Right-Wing Minded Male.
I guess Conservatism has poisoned my mind to the point that I can’t understand why a convention has to be advertised as “gay” if it’s actually supposed to be for “everybody”. How were they going to market this if it was supposed to be restricted to LGBT people?
I would not be offended if this was an exclusive event. Everybody is not the same, and I think differences should be celebrated.
I guess I’m out of touch.
-
I’m left wing. Like, a nuts left wing hippy.
And in this regard, I totally agree with you. It’s a name that excludes people, and groups like that always seemed a little… odd.
-
Yeah, I’ve got to say I agree, although I think they’ve got the best intentions behind it. Seems to me that acceptance goes hand-in-hand with mainstream, when they intentionally seperate themselves than it distances them from that goal?
-
-
I hate the term “gaymer”. It’s needlessly segregating the community. Can’t we all just be gamers, regardless of sexuality?
-
Nah
-
Yeah, I don’t consider myself a “straightmer”, or a “marriedmer” or even a “girl gamer” I’m just a gamer. The more people identify themselves by their differences, the more difficult it becomes for them to get the equal treatment they want.
-
-
Greymercon
-
Oh man, I’ll be needing that soon. #old #obligatoryhiHarli
-
Tell me about it, 27 in two weeks /o\
-
You’re a babby! I turned 36 a few weeks ago.
27 is an awesome age. 😀 -
How does I form babby?
-
-
-
-
Where music is kept at a sensible volume and days events end in time for the 5pm dinner special.
I never got the obsession with people’s sexuality. I REALLY don’t care where people choose to stick it be they straight, gay or furry. None of my business. I’m more concerned with whether some one is easygoing or an asshole.
-
+1
Gender is also irrelevant to me, because all of us are gamers here 🙂
-
Exactly, I have no clue if any Taybies are gay, but it hasn’t mattered before and it doesn’t matter now. You’re all good folk and it’d be unfortunate if you migrated away to a more niche community!
-
I’ve never known my sexuality to define my gaming habits, nor do my gaming habits define my sexuality. (Oh yeah baby, stomp that naughty goomba!)
pigeonholing is seeming more like an inevitability. I can see the sense in this sort of thing for say, those going through adolescence for example. It’s an idea that we can all belong to something, whether or not THIS thing is it.
When gaming, I’m an RPG minded person. I’m not devoid of personality or sexuality, however I’m open enough to keep my real-world affiliations aside from whatever may be portrayed on the screen.
I’m a fluid person in most aspects. Socially, sexually and otherwise I am generally open for interpretation.
One thing that’s not open for interpretation? I won’t try to lock myself in to one particular label. The whole idea of coming out seems to stymie this way of thinking, as making a big deal of something that is so inherently you (and likely has been for some time) goes to further segregate yourself.
Accept who you are, sure, that’s great. I can’t say I agree with the “pride parade” any more than I agree with white supremacy or gender disparity.
I guess I’m just out of touch.
YOU’VE GOT THE TOUCH
-
YOU’VE GOT THE POWEEEEEERRRRRR!!!
-
YOU’VE GOT THE LOOK.
YOOOOOOOOUU’VE GOT THE LOOOOOOOOK.-
SHE’S GOT THE LOOK
SHE GOS “NA NA NA NA NA, NA NA NA NAA NA NA NA NA NA NAAA!”
-
NAAAAAA NAAA NAAA NANANANAAAAA
NANANANAAAAA
HEEEEY JUUUUUDE -
You guys changed songs….
-
HEY MR. CJ COME ‘PON DE REPLAY
HEY MR. CJ WON’T YOU TURN THE MUSIC UP -
UP THERE CAZALY
-
-
I get what you mean; inherently saying that “I am different” means that you continue to stay different, despite wanting acceptance.
But for me, at least, internally, I have to occasionally stay “I am different” so that I continue to remember
a) other people do not always think like me
b) to accept myself as well.
Like many people, my parents are very conservative and so I spent a lot of time hating myself instead of just saying “screw this, I’m going to do what makes me happy as long as I’m not actively hurting anyone”. But I do need to say “I am this label and I accept it” sometimes to feel that it’s okay, especially when my dad posts some terrible thing on Facebook and I feel the old sham e and guilt over being something I can’t change?
Wait, I just reread your post and you weren’t arguing against labels. But replies to you were saying that labels are unnecessary (and yes, I’d like them to be unnecessary)…but I guess people have their own reasons for labelling themselves.
As for the gaymercon stuff; I guess ultimately it’s just supposed to say “we are accepting of gay gamers but honestly anyone can come”.
-
PS I am super tired, dunno if I make any sense
Just went nutty. Ordered DQ IV, V, VI and IX for DS from VideoGamesPlus in Canada, ordered the four DS Layton games from Play-Asia, and then while I was there I threw down preorders for the stuff I’m intending to grab for Vita/3DS as well (Ragnarok Odyssey, Zero Escape, Persona 4 Golden, ACIII Liberation, Miku Hatsune Project Diva F, Code of Princess)
\o/ Buy all the games. \o/
\o/ Put all the games on shelf \o/
/o\ Never play all the games /o\
-
Holy mother of disposable income that’s a huge order!
-
Yes. Though to be fair those preorders are spread over September -> November
-
Also there’s hardly anything console/pc-wise coming out I’m super excited for that I don’t have an order down on already.
-
Also also, all portable games so not as expensive (with the exception of the Miku one as it’s a JP release)
-
-
-
-
Woah! You sure love your Dragon Quest!
-
OR DO I?
It’s more a case that those versions are the best ones actually still available and I’ve never played them.
-
DQV is the bestest!
I like how you start out as a kid and play at various stages in your life. They also have the awesome monster capture mechanic and I’m pretty sure they were the first game to have it.
-
I always felt like the DQ games tried more interesting narrative things than FF ever did. IV’s setup with introducing each character in their own chapter then having them all come together at the end, or V’s stages of life thing are pretty ambitious. Wouldn’t see many JRPGs nowadays taking those sorts of narrative risks, which is a shame.
-
-
-
-
Have you ordered from VGP before? If so, are they good?
-
Once, back in 2009, and I had no problems that I recall. They’re a pretty common go-to for imported and rare games for people in North America I think. Play-Asia is generally better for us due to proximity etc, but in my case Play-Asia didn’t have stock of the DQ games I wanted.
-
I’ve ordered Etrian Odyssey 3 with preorder art book off them. Arrived within two weeks and both game and art book were in great condition.
Would recommend if they have something in particular you want! Bit pricier than play Asia, iirc.-
That was probably before our dollar was worth more than the USD and CAD.
-
Unless I’m terribad at maths AND don’t know how to use a simple currency converter OR the currency converter built into the VGP website, they appear to have the cheapest price on WiFi-Only Vita (~AUD$250), and that’s very tempting.
-
Shipping might make the difference though.
-
-
-
I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but I think I just stopped time.
IT’S STILL FRIDAY!
Seriously, how do I turn this thing back on…?
-
Total Bond villain right here, people. Stopping time indefinitely, forever stuck with an hour left of work prior to enjoying the weekend’s festivities.
So close, yet so far. Time is meaningless, and with it, hope.-
Wasn’t this basically the master plan of the final boss in FF8?
-
Yeah, She wanted to collapse all time into a single instant to bootstrap her way to ULTIMATE SORCERESS POWAH
-
Also she was secretly Rinoa :V
-
Eh, that one’s speculative. Like the idea that Squall dies.
-
TIDUS WAS DEAD ALL ALONG AND YUNA CAN’T ACCEPT IT.
Also, I don’t think I played FFVIII enough to know much of anything outside of gunblades. Man, they were cool.
-
Yeah, he actually WAS dead all along.
It’s not a big spoiler. Squall gets pretty seriously injured early on, theory goes that the rest of the game is him hallucinating while bleeding out.
-
Bleeding out from his terrible facial wound?
-
The icicle to the chest actually
-
But the icicle happens quite a long way into the game. That doesn’t make sense.
But then again neither does FF8.
-
ALL THE SPOILERS :'(
FFVIII I’ll beat you one day…
-
The icicle is the end of disc 1 IIRC, and it’s at that point that the game goes off the rails.
Still my favourite.
-
-
-
Have you tried punching it
Seriously Gangnam Style, that video is strangely mesmerising.
-
I know right? I keep going back to it for absolutely no reason, and I just sit there thinking why did I reopen this…
-
You know why.
-
NO! In my defence I have it on in the background while LOOKING at OTHER THINGS.

Any Melbourne TAYbies interested in meeting at Mana Bar tonight?
Not sure how often I can check in on TAY, but you can email me. “my username” at gmail dot com.
=/ i’ved asked Gizmodo why am I being moderated over there still, no response. I have some comments that have been sitting in moderation for days. It’s not like any of these comments are remotely offensive, they were thanking someone, just so weird.
-
Maybe its because you remind him of herpes
-
=( am I really that repulsive? D=

-
Anti Virus software.
-
You jest, but it’s possible he gets auto-filtered by a spam filter that think he’s trying to post links to rogue AV software.
-
Actually I think someone reported me not long back, since it only happened recently, and since then i’ve been getting moderated.
-
-
Late notice is late!
Tomorrow night a couple of us are catching up in Sydney. No real plans on what we are doing but Galaxy World will be involved.
Shall we say, 6pm at Galaxy World?
-
Late notice indeed! I’ll have to meat you some other time!
ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND
I’m back =D
-
You fixed your PC?!
-
Nope, now the sound isn’t working. I have all the luck.
Oh and then there’s the artwork I lost too. Stupid windows backup
-
Aww, tried installing drivers for the audio? =P
-
They’re up to date
-
Hmm enabled which output the sound goes through?
-
No? I put them in the back ports
-
Haha, well try Start > Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab and (i’ll assume it’s the same for you) select the options there with sound playing so you can tell when it is a success (if it is)
-
It should auto detect but if it fails to do so properly you may need to go into your audio drivers program and tell it which ports you plugged them into.
Speakers are still plugged into the power right? and switched on? Sometimes it’s the little things.

Welcome back Scree Machine!
-
Thanks! Did you miss me?*
*I don’t expect you to answer that
-
YES. I was wondering where you had gotten too! 😀
-
Weird. I was just thinking this arvo I hadn’t seen you around for a while.
Hi Scree!!!!!!
o/
Welcome to Friday Night TAY!
For a lack of anything interesting to say, here is a video of a mouse chasing a cat.
-
Hahahaha, though it looks more like a rat to me.
-
It does seem a little big for a mouse. Now my whole life feels like a lie!
Anyone know where I should go on an epic journey of self discovery?
-
Haha.
Bill Shorten.
This afternoon was awesome.
Whilst just cruising around town, I decided to check out the local Cash Converters.
On arrival, I did peruse the offerings, and what should I find?
A used Gamecube, still in working condition (with a controller, of course).
Well, I immediately bought it, along with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and Super Monkey Ball, as well as a Game Boy Advance.
Also, I managed to acquire a Wacom Bamboo tablet.
All in all, I am happy with my purchases.
-
Noice!
-
Very noice
-
-
Nice, I never had much exposure to the game cube but what little I played of it was fun.
I’ve always been tempted to get myself a tablet. I like to imagine that the absence of one is the thing stopping me form drawing like this https://d2vn94glaxzkz3.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/wallpapers/GW2_HumanNecromancer-1920×1080.jpg
and not and absence of talent and skill.
For some reason (don’t ask me, I have no idea why) I’ve had that riff from Cheap Trick’s ‘Mighty Wings’ from the Top Gun soundtrack stuck in my head all day. I haven’t heard that song in years either.
-
I’ve got the Simpsons Planet of the Apes musical stuck in my head but that may be because Beneath the Planet of the Apes is on at the moment.
-
Dr Zaius, Dr Zaius!
-
Huzzah CJ’s AEF BF3 team is top of its group in our tourny!
-
Good job, AEF!
-
Grats! I believe my mate is back in that clan playing BF3.. I think..
-
Wooo! That probably took some skill unlike the time where some friends and I entered this ‘competition’ and had a 1 in 8 chance to win a trip to L.A. 😛
G’luck AEF CJ ~ . || Lt. Col || !
About damn time that Randy Blythe from Lamb of God was released from prison in the Czech Republic.
He still has to appear back there for when it comes to trial, but seriously something like 600 grand USD in bail they posted in the end and a month of detainment until he was released.
At first I thought he was guilty of the manslaughter of the 20 year old but as more footage from the concert came out & other shit, it’s leaning more so towards the kids sheer stupidity and the security doing his job.
Kid got on stage 3 times during the show in Prague in 2010, 3rd time he was pushed back off the stage hit his head and died from internal bleeding about a month later, it was all pinned on Randy doing it to the kid, if the so so footage is correct then he should be innocent, if not he’s looking at upto 10 years in a foreign country’s prison, if found guilty.
Takes me back.
Well, I had my first visit to the Mana Bar tonight.
It wasn’t planned. All we had planned was a night our for a friend’s birthday who’s husband has to be away for work this week, and the decision was made to head to Brunswick St.
Heaps of bars, cafes and restaurants, so we’re sure to find something right?
Then, while we are stopped for refreshments in the city, I remembered – Mana Bar!
Birthday Girl is a huge gamer, so she jumped at the suggestion.
Anyway, a very good dinner was had, great coffee was enjoyed (outdoors for we are filthy smokers – but the cafe had blankets hung over the railing for us to put on our cold laps!), then Mana Bar was found.
It’s smaller than I thought. But still pretty cool.
We are both strictly PC gamers for the last too-many years, so we sucked at everything! (well, I sucked at everything)
But a great time was had and some silly, colourful and delicious drinks were consumed!
And they all lived happily ever after.
The End. (or is it? – dunn dunn dunnnnn!)

SmufyDog’s Adventure 2: Return of the SmurfyDog
Just played an unsettling chapter of Spec Ops: The Line. I think I need a hug. 😛
-
*rocks back and forwards in fetal position*
-
-
Thanks, man. That was only a little awkward. 😛
-
-
-
I have heard that game is so depressing.
Wouldn’t mind giving it a go sometime.
-
Up there with Max Payne 3 and Mass Effect 3 as game of the year for me at the moment! Definitely the finest war game I’ve ever played. More a character study disguised as a war game.
-
I’d agree with this. I’m really enjoying it not that I’ve had much chance to play it.
What difficulty are you playing it on? I started on Suicide Mission and it is slowing me up a fair bit having to replay some sections 10 times.
-
I’m playing on the default, I think that’s Combat Ops in this game. Not too punishing at all, pretty decent balance. Never subject myself to the insane difficulty levels. 😛 (Probably the reason Dark Souls doesn’t interest me.)
-
-
-
So I just saw The Dark Knight Rises; ROT13 inc.

-
The Naga Bhut Joloki. Not too hot. Only about 1,000,000 SHU’s.
-
Trinidad scorpion. ‘Nuff said 😛
I tried it once, NEVER AGAIN.
-
I have a bottle of it in my cupboard. >.>
I know Doc What is a fan of it too.
-
-
Sounds interesting.. Though knowing you and how you like spicy not sure if I want to venture there =P
-
Bhut Jolokia is perhaps second only to the Trinidad Scorpion on the Scoville heat scale. These are the hottest chillis in the world.
Here’s a clip of a hothead consuming pure capsaicin crystal extract, dissolved in vodka. This ranks at 16,000,000 SHUs, about 16 times hotter than the Bhut Jolokia, and 8 times hotter than the Trinidad Scorp. Shit’s hot, yo.
-
Sorry guys, possibly NSFW or “yucky stuff” label could be attached to this. It’s pretty tame though.
-
AHAHAHAHA this kid handles a T-Scorp like a champ!
I want to slap him down because he eats like a grot, but hey, he’s nine, and he’s just sampled the T-Scorp. What a champion!

Any TAYbies going to see Frenzal Rhomb in October at the HiFi in Bris?

Reason I ask is, it’s the week after my B’day, and my sis just informed me she bought me an early present! Ticket to the show! WIN!

I am not familiar with their music so I will be giving it a pass, but have a blast man! I’m still hoping I can some how score tickets for Slash this month then Wednesday 13 & Steel Panther in October lol.

Oh dear. Overheard an interesting thing at work tonight. The moment finally came when the internet and real life crossed over in a way that just me say wow. Tonight I had a mother yell at her 3 year old daughter that not getting a chocolate was a “first world problem”.
A) Why would you think a 3 year old understands first/third world?
B) Even I don’t spend that much time online that that sort of stuff gets into my everyday language.
Has anyone else heard things like this before?
-
Silly phone submitting things half done
-
My big realization was when I noticed people actually saying “lol”. I can understand the use of acronyms in everyday language, although for some reason it irks me when I actually hear “lol” or “lmfao”.
I’ll admit, it’s a bit of a digression. Still relevant though.-
Saying ‘lol’ is a whole new kind of stupid though, because if you can say ‘lol’, you’re obviously not ‘lol’ing!

Back in my day, phones didn’t have predictive text and everyone spoke English
Dagnabbit.
-
-
-
Argh that annoys me so much. Even in messages. One of my friends pretty much replaces every single full stop with lol. Drives me up the wall
-
Textually, I much prefer to use the phonetic “haha” than any acronym. Perhaps I’m archaic in the sense that I don’t welcome the evolution of language, although I can’t agree that this is ‘evolution’ so much as it is ‘mutation’.
-
I tend to vary based on how amusing I find it. So, I go for “lol” if it’s a little bit amusing, “Haha” can range in anything from fake laughter to a little more than “lol,” and “Bahaha” is for things I actually find properly amusing, often longer if it’s funnier.
One of the sacrifices I make to the English language is “wut.” Technically it’s not a word, and it should have a question mark after it, but I’ll usually leave it with a full stop or nothing.
-
wat and wut are interchangeable for me, and typically refer to something so bizarre or confusing that there’s no real response to be made. Never will I use these terms in real-world context however.
The worst offender is “k” as a response to a statement.
“I’ll be there in an hour”
“k”Go die in a fire.
-
I don’t mind people using it like that, it’s useful as an acknowledgement that they heard you, and understood. I’d much prefer that to no response.
-
I must say, I think I’d prefer no response to “k”. Each to their own though, and it does implicate recognition, if nothing else.
-
-

Now to begin the long arduous search for Gamecube games on ebay…
-
There’s an eBay store who sells awesome quality games for a reasonable price. He also has MINT COND ones but they can be $120+ depending on the game :P. In the last 2 years or so I got Eternal Darkness and Twin Snakes from him (~$35, ~$80) and both have scratch free discs (all his discs are pretty much perfect) and a manual.
If only I remember the name of the seller… Shouldn’t be too hard to find though!
-
Gameholio!
He tends to sell UK versions though but they still work (assuming you have a PAL Cube)
-
aaaaaaaaand done. Finised Avatar Ze Last Wind guy.

Having a family day with the kids today. Just had a Maccas breakfast (blergh) and about to head up to Dreamworld. Could be a bad combination.
-
Or the best combination
-
Crap. The park is jammed full of 5-10 year olds. You go to a ride thinking the lines only about 20m long but there’s 60 of them all pressed up together.
Sigh.
-
Sunday probably wasn’t the best day for Dreamworld. 😛 Hope you guys are having an awesome time, though.
-
So I’ve just spent the past 3.5 hours on a wikipedia-esque-epade, without wikipedia. From realising that dreams (good bad or ugly) are a blessing, to blogs from intelligent pornstars, back to cat videos and stories of amnesia.
Also, have a cat video:
-
Productive Sunday all round, it seems. 😛
Just completed Spec Ops: The Line, probably the most confronting and powerful game I’ve played since Heavy Rain. If you’re on the fence about it at all, play the demo. You’ll know soon enough if it appeals to you. A step in the right direction for war games, most definitely. I feel sorry for the next game that’ll have to be played in Spec Op’s shadow. 😛
-
(Also, it’s too bad Xbox achievements can’t be shown statistically, like on Steam. I’d love to know some of the key decisions folks made. Any way, I’m going to shut up about this game now. :D)
-
SPEC OPS!
-
XENOBLADE!
-
FARMVILLESPEC OPS!
-
-
-
Me so far: Man of Action, Damned if you Do and Friendly Fire.
It is a great game to be sure.
-
Out of those, I got the same with one exception: Damned If You Don’t. Spec Op’s a harsh mistress to be sure. 😛 I won’t spoil future achievements, but there’s one coming up real soon that I felt a real sense of relief to get. The horror at having to pick the alternate outcome would’ve made me stop the game, put it on shelf and leave unfinished.
-
I’m not that far in – going to finish it today hopefully but so far it’s Man of Patience for me. 🙂
-
That’s one choice I was very conflicted about, I could reason a case for both.
Man, they did themselves no favor calling the game Spec Ops. Sounds so generic and bland and wrongly put itself in the same category as Call of Duty. Glad the TAY marketing machine/Adventure Gamers/Twitter marketing machines convinced me. The only reason I’m being so vocal in my love of the game, so it doesn’t go ignore. 😛
-
-
-
-
Hopefully there’s a demo on PSN. I usually dislike military shooters but from what I’ve seen it looks kind of interesting.
(Or maybe I should try it on PC. My Master Race gene has really kicked in since the Steam sales :P)
-
I’m not a fan of military shooters either, this game probably has more in common with Uncharted than Call of Duty. Experience built around a story instead of the other way round. Plenty of exploring to do too. If you ignore the horrors of the setting, it has the same sense of awe as the first time I explored Rapture in BioShock.
Any way, I’m out of here for the day. Too much rambling on my behalf. 😛 Sorry for spamming. :S
-
Don’t worry you’re not spamming 🙂
“The only reason I’m being so vocal in my love of the game, so it doesn’t go ignore. :P”
I know if it wasn’t for you and the other TAYbies talking about it I probably would’ve overlooked the game. It just looked like a generic FPS to me but after watching some video reviews it seemed to be something more. Good to hear some first hand opinions on it and I’ll definitely check it out (when it’s cheaper of course :P).
TAY MARKETING *shakes fist*
Also hows the actual gameplay? Ya know the shooty bits? (or other bits if there’s any?). The praise I’ve heard about the game mainly come from the story/setting rather than the actual gameplay.
-
Thanks, Greenius. Gameplay is pretty damn polished. I kept waiting for some flaws to appear because of the mixed reactions it had on release, but they never arrived. Might be one of those games you either love or hate, but I think it’s clear by now that I’m well and truly on board the love band wagon. 😛
Basically third person with basic squad commands, don’t expect SWAT level of tactics but it was a decent surprise. Reminded me of Freedom Fighters by IO from a few years back. Aiming seemed pretty intuitive and standard if you’ve played the likes of Uncharted. (Maybe it was the large reticle size too, but I know for certain my accuracy was a lot better than some other console games.) Basic stealth. Intelligence gathering too. There’s some unique destructable environments if you’re into that thing too. (Shoot out over head window, sand comes pouring in and the like.) The story and setting is where the magic happens, though, but it’s always nice when the gameplay doesn’t let that down.
All this is seen through the perspective of someone who’d call this their game of the year easily, so adjust gushing levels may vary. 😛
-
Oh, if it seals the deal Nolan North voices the lead character and I had no freakin’ idea until the credits rolled. The guy’s a talanted man.
-
But he sounds exactly like he does in every other role where he does the “Nolan North” voice(Which I despise with the burning passion of a thousand suns), how did you not realise that it was him?
-
I don’t know, man. Didn’t pick it at all. Watched TMNT last night and spotted his character immediately, so who knows. 😛
-
-
-
It feels more accurate because it is. The first shot always lands exactly where your reticle is instead of anywhere but. About damned time I say. Games these days seem in love with the idea that it’s more “realistic” for shots to go everywhere but I would like to counter with “you’re a trained soldier. Why wouldn’t he hit his target?”
That said if you jam the trigger down on a full auto it will spray all over that place.
-
It’s third person? :P. I thought it was first!
You compared it to Uncharted earlier, a series which I really like so it seems like Spec Ops will be right up my alley. Thanks for giving me more things to spend my money on D.C.!
-
Tone wise, it’s NOTHING like Uncharted though. 😛
-
I’ve been hearing good things as well-More so about its story than its mechanics. Probably a rental for me or maybe I can wait for a price drop or for it to be part of PS+
I’ve played the PC demo. Controls are fine the sprint is a bit odd but other then that Id say PC cause mouse (I usually can’t stand 3rd person shooting on PC)
Finished it. Gameplay goes to pieces toward the end, difficulty spikes and crazy unfair firefights and those goddamn heavy guys everywhere. But the plot is so worth it.
Decisions: Man of Patience, Damned if You Don’t, Unfriendly Fire, A Line Held, then picked A Farewell to Arms, saw that end, and decided to go back and pick Too Late the Hero and then The Road Back.
