This new trailer for Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us doesn’t show a whole lot of new stuff, but it shows it in a way we haven’t yet seen — accompanied by the wistful words of Hank Williams’ “Alone And Forsaken.”
Those lyrics, via A Hank Williams Journal (where they have chords, should you want to strum along):
We met in the springtime when blossoms unfold
The pastures were green and the meadows were [Am] gold
Our love was in flower as summer grew on
Her love like the leaves now has withered and [Am] gone.
The roses have faded, there’s frost at my door
The birds in the morning don’t sing any-more
The grass in the valley is starting to die
And out in the darkness the whippoorwills cry.
Alone and forsaken by fate and by man
Oh, Lord, if You hear me please hold to my hand
Oh, please understand.
Oh, where has she gone to, oh, where can she be
She may have forsaken some other like me
She promised to honour, to love and obey
Each vow was a plaything that she threw away.
The darkness is falling, the sky has turned gray
A hound in the distance is starting to bay
I wonder, I wonder — what she’s thinking of
Forsaken, forgotten — without any love.
And at the end of the trailer (where, apologies, our feed crapped out for a second), Ellie asks Joel how he saw the bandits’ ambush coming.
“I’ve been on both sides.”
Such a flip-flopper, that Joel.
Naughty Dog have the chance to do something really amazing here.
i really hope ol’ Hank the First is the background music to more of the game. Matched beautifully.
Looks amazing,
Cant wait!
I’m devastated this won’t be coming to PC though!!!
sweet song
It had a very Tarantino feel about it. He frequently uses the soundtrack to set a mood, and often one which juxtaposes the tension on-screen.
I can’t wait for The Last Of Us.
Looks great, This is why I have pc and PS3, pc for multi-platform games, PS for exclusives…. *drools*
