Capcom Says Those Very Early Copies Of Resident Evil 6 Were Stolen

In late August, months before launch, retail copies of Resident Evil 6 appeared in Europe. Kotaku wondered if they were stolen goods, and according to Capcom, they are.

“Capcom is currently undertaking a thorough investigation into reports that Resident Evil 6 is being sold ahead of its official October 2 release date,” Capcom told Eurogamer.

“At this time, all we can add is that it would appear this unfortunate incident is limited to a small quantity of stolen copies of the German USK PlayStation 3 version of the game.”

    • Because it is scheduled for that date. Just like how you order Maccas your food is ready but you gotta wait for your turn.

    • Also factor in, that while the German version print might be complete, at this moment the pressing plants might be busy on completing the UK version and/or other territories or even the 360 version, to allow the release of the game across the world at the same (give or take a day) time.

    • Because it’s easier just to stick to the date they told retailers they’d get it on.

But there’s also the possiblitiy that, like oggob said, not all the print runs might be complete yet. It’s better for consistancy and for logistics that you ship everything around the same time.

    • Because there might be more batches, this might have been one of the first ones made that was stolen from the factory. You have to wait for it to be made and arrive at all the stores, Portal 2 was ready to play 2 months before it’s release.

  • Any videos made it to youtube yet? I can’t find any.
Though I guess if i had an early ‘stolen’ copy of the game, I wouldn’t be stupid enough t upload video and risk getting tracked.

  • i bet Capcom are just saying there stolen when they are not just so people don’t buy the game earlier and so Capcom have an excuse to get the games back from the sellers.

    • I doubt it. Selling the game early is a breach of the agreement with the retailers and would get that retailer royally fucked over. Short version: fines and he next Capcom game would not be delievered to that store/chain until a week after release.
