Community Kudos

Golf ham I’m really sick. Super sick. My feet are cold as well. I think I might just make this week’s Community Kudos post a series of complaints about my well being.

My nose is runny. It’s also a little bit itchy. My muscles are achey and my hair hurts for some reason. I sneezed on my sleeve and there were boogers.

Hmmm… what else?

Oh, I have a really sore throat and it hurts when I cough. I ate too many cupcakes today. When I went outside for lunch it started to rain. I am really tired and I want to sleep.

Okay. I think that’s enough.

Welcome to Community Kudos!

As you know, last week Community Kudos was delayed because I had this event I had to go to. That means that today is a double banger baby. (I don’t know what the means…)

It also means you have a double dose of Shiggy noms.

DOSE ONE…

THIS IS AN ALL CAPS KUDOS. BECAUSE WHY NOT BROTAKU. WHY NOT.
KUDOS TO ALL MY NINTENDO HOMIES. WE MADE IT MY BRUTHAS.
ANTI KUDOS TO ALL DA HATERZ. STOP SIPPIN DA HATORADE. Y’ALL JELLY.

DOSE TWO…

ONE KUDOS TO DAN FOR HIS PODCAST.

ONE ANTI-KUDOS TO THE GOVERNMENT FOR DICKING ME AROUND WITH MY TAX RETURN. LIKE WHAT THE HELL? PUT IT IN MY BANK ACCOUNT NOT IN A CHEQUE LIKE I ASKED.

ONE KUDOS TO PEZ FOR MAKING A SONG WITH ME. DUDES ARENT PREPARED FOR THIS BACON DROPPING SONG.

Aw man, a song about bacon. Where do I sign? On the bacon itself?

On a separate note — why am I just seeing this vid from Lambo?

Jesus. This is great!

And Smurfydog nommed him for it, along with pewpew for coining the term ‘Bashcraftian’ and The Cracks for helping him master the twitters!

Looks like Scree had some technical issues again…

As you know I have been having major issues with my computer for ages.
With the help of TAY, including Rize, Negative Zero, Bumblebee tuna and Aleph.
Bumblebee tuna helped me scan the computer to see if any windows drivers were out of date.
Negative Zero, Aleph and Rize confirmed to me that it was most likely a driver problem.
After window said everything was fine (I scanned twice to make sure), I ended up searching for something to help me find out.
I found slim driver and installed it, and now my computer is working fine =D

TAYbie IT support is the goddamn best.

Oh dear, watch out. It seems as though Kotaku folks have come up with a totally weird perma-death style way of playing Pokemon…

Got a bunch of noms this week, mainly to do with the TAYlocke. A bunch of us pokemon fans were chatting this week and the topic of Nuzlocke runs was brought up. The basic premise is that you can only capture the first pokemon you encounter on any given route, and if any pokemon faint, its considered “dead” and cannot be used again. It really ramps up the tension, and the unofficial offical rule of nicknaming all your pokemon means you do develop a bond with them. If you lose one, you really feel terrible about it (I know, I’ve had it happen). Anyway Powalen, Greenius, Freeze, CJ, Jo and I all decided to do a Nuzlocke run of HeartGold or SoulSilver at the same time. That so many people were interested was great, so noms to all of those guys. Also want Powalen to get Uber-Kudos noms, because he set up a blog so that we can all post our stories and experiences of our games where we can all share. http://www.powalen.com/taylocke/ if you are interested.

I would totally do this, but yeah… Pokemon. I’ve never played a Pokemon game in my life. Maybe I should start — anyone got any idea what I should start?

I’m really happy that Chuloopa is back and stuff — he nommed Trjn for showing him this video.

Wow.

Alright let’s burn through some super short nom emails.

Bam.

Negative Zero
I want to nominate everyone, because they’re all awesome.

BAM!

D.C.
I’m a man of few words. Here they are:

Strange. Shane.

Okay, now we’re just left with the mega noms. And probably the ones that I’ve somehow lost, or the ones people sent me on twitter!

Later D.C. emailed me again to confirm his noms!

Last week I sent in noms for Strange and Shane. I thought this might be a good excuse to elaborate! The thing with these two is they’re so prolific in their awesomeness, that they’ve even got tags on this very article. I almost feel like if I nominate these guys it’s kind of a cliche, but then I remember there’s a damn good reason they’ve earned this reputation in the first place. A reputation earned every week in TAY by their friendly natures, helpfulness and general kindness. I’ve been looking for a specific reason to nominate them for weeks now, but there’s so many little examples. So this is a nom for the sum of these parts…

On Sunday my cat ran away. It’s not been a good week, but the folks on TAY have sent their thoughts and good will my way. It would be an understatement to say this was appreciated. The critter returned on Thursday morning. Felt like a weight lifted, but I can imagine how much worse it’d be if it wasn’t for the awesome Kotaku community. A few others have had tough weeks too and all these usual suspects have given a place to vent, happy to listen and offer advice. This is one of those crazy noms where I put every damn member of the Kotaku community up for kudos. 😀

D.C. also nommed Pixel the Ferret Viking for coming BACK to TAY! THEY ALWAYS COME BACK.

I love this story from Shane…

This week, I sent off a series proposal to Dark Horse Comics. Preparing the pitch was a daunting prospect, but I did what I usually do when I get nervous: put out a call for assistance on TAY, and ended up getting a pretty amazing response from TAYbies who clearly have a little too much free time during business hours. It’s quite a list of names (so brace yourself), and although I have often wondered about the potential disingenuity of nomming too many people, I do want to publicly thank all these folks for their input into my pitch, which is now a much stronger document, and a lot cleaner and readable than the one I started with. Might even have a fighting chance of getting picked up. Some of these enthusiastic and generous folks sent me pages and pages of helpful notes and suggestions…

Hermes and Thoth;
Dire Wolf;
Trjn;
Alpha Prospector;
AlexPants;
Scree; and
Gingerchris86

Shane — good luck man, seriously. I hope it happens for you. It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

I think Greenius is really paranoid because I once misattributed his noms — because he actually always puts ‘Greenius Kudos Noms’ in the subject line. He suggested maybe shortening it to GKN? Man, don’t do it! Your noms are always the easiest to find!

Anyway the GKNs were as follows…

Blaghman for Blaghspam
Freeze S. Preston for offering to send me Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
Strange for being amazingly awesome!
Sughly for rightfully loving Final Fantasy IX
Vivi for being one of the best characters EVER
Blue and Yellow for creating one of the best colours EVER
The C Major Chord for sounding nice and helping a certain someone get the ladies
PSY for Gangnam Style
This guy for this

and the conductor of the…

WII U HYPE TRAIN! CHOOO CHOOO CHUGGA CHUGGA CHOOO CHOOO

Who is the conductor of the hype train? I could think of a serious amount of folks it could be!

Lamboman kept linking me to weird videos like this one, but in between he managed to nom CrazyGuy1990. Not just a normal nom, but a “big sloppy nom”. Apparently CrazyGuy1990 sent the Lambonator a copy of Borderlands 2. Hurray!

Alright, this is the last nom for today (until all the last minute noms come piling in) and it’s from Strange…

I hereby nominate Mawt for Kudos. When I mentioned wistfully this week that I’d never played a Pokemon game before, he sent me Pokemon White which appeared in my mailbox today and made my day.

This week I also want to make honourable mentions to everyone who sent me a drawing. I’ve been asking all TAYbies past and present to send me a drawing of themselves for unknown nefarious err, I mean benign purposes and I have nearly 40 pictures so far and every one of them is amazing.

So I really want to thank everyone who is doing this for me. Especially because I won’t be telling anyone why I’m asking for this for at least a couple of months. 😛

WHAT IS THIS PROJECT? I DEMAND TO KNOW!

(Also, I really want to see everyone’s drawings of themselves!)

— STOP PRESS NOMS —

Whaddaya know! Just as I finished writing those very words, I received some STOP PRESS LAST MINUTE NOMS!

Doc What
My last minute kudos nom goes to the Anonymous Pessimist.

Why fors? Firstly for agreeing to lend his mad music kills to the Zombie Movie trailer as well as offering up his time to work on the movie itself when it’s done.

Secondly, for entertaining myself as well as Alex Pants and Cakesmith while he recorded Shiggy singing about bacon.

The zombie trailer should be up tomorrow so GET YOUR BODY READY, COUNTRYMAN! GET IT READY GOOD!

I also nominate Shiggy for being my other half in a non-gay way. Well, maybe a little bit gay.

Also for being so hyped for the Wii-U.

And Potaku.

DOC OUT!

Amazingly, even though he was earlier than usual, Welbot was still last in with his noms. Welbot
This week I would like to nominate Blaghman for kudos! I may have done so last week, but I can’t remember. You didn’t post it last week either did you?

Anywho, Blaghman referred one of his friends on to my business and they purchased about $3k worth of hardware! Big thanks to Blaghman for helping to spread the good word all around the country 🙂

Oh, actually, I just got another one! Whoops — make that three!

Dire Wolf
Seems a lot of people had a bad week so I’d like to nominate everyone for kudos. Specifically though I’d like to signal out NegativeZero for his animal woes and DC for his animal woes, though I believe DC’s story had a happy ending.

Hermes & Thoth
I assume this carmunitee kuderz is going to be a long one so ill make it shortish and sweetish. This week I nominate no one because I’m too busy playing Borderlands 2. Sorry. Check back next week or pre order your nermz right now!
Seriously just throw a nerm Areph-Nurr’s and Shane’s way would you? The former for rekindling my love of HORSE the band and the latter for crafting great stories.

AlexPants
Hopefully not too late here, saw people mentioning kudos on the twitters and suddenly it clicked.
Just a nom to Doc What for being awesome! Enough said, really.
Enjoy Borderlands 2! It’s really good.

Difficult choice for winner this week — but I’m going to go with Anonymous Pessimist — because he always seems to volunteer for people, giving them the music they need for whatever project they’re working on. Jolly good work bro.

Also — I want early access to the Bacon song.
