Final Fantasy VII Is Now Available In Australia

You may remember that, last month, Australians were unable to buy Final Fantasy VII alongside the rest of the world. At the time Square-Enix refused to shed any further light on the specific reasons why Australians were being left behind, and simply stated that the Square-Enix store would be "available in Australia and New Zealand soon". Now, over a month later, Australians are able to buy Final Fantasy VII in the online Square-Enix store.

The game is now available at a 'discounted' price of $11.99 AU.

We have yet to be given any explanation for the delay, but we thought you might like an update on the situation. Most likely the delay was something to do with the back-end workings of the site. The store is now open, and is selling in Australian currency, we suspect getting that set up was part of the delay.

Love it how Sony loves to shaft the aussies!

We can't get enough of it. Stick it up higher, luuuuurve it

I once saw the game on sale in a store for 120 bucks.

    Granted, it was new (somehow).

Locked it in the safe and only opened it after 10 years passed?

Just bought it but be aware the website is really buggy.

Hrmm won't even start the game whe I press play on the launcher. It just keeps opening the launcher :/

If I downloaded this on my Mac could I run it with something like Wine?

Why put yourself through additional headaches.

If you have a copy of Windows lying around, just use boot camp.

If you don't then please accept my apologies and disregard the rest of this post.

I don't have a copy of Windows lying around, no. Which is why I asked about Wine, it runs smaller things fine but I don't know how well it would handle a larger game like this.
I do actually have a PC in the house but I never use it, I use my MacBook for everything and it would just be a pain to have to use the PC just for one game.

You could look at downloading the Release Preview of Windows 8... i remember seeing somewhere that MS offers the ISO for free download prior to launch. It will eventually require paid activation, but i dont suspect that will be for some time, and is no longer supposed to be very expensive.

And I accept your apologies :P

Ha ha was about to send a note to you guys about this ;) I nabbed it up thismorning - and I later then received an email from SE saying the australian store was open like 2 hours after purchasing it >.>

Seems the cloud saves are a bit iffy, the musics the bad MIDI ones like on the original PC version, not the PS1 music and has had a lot of issues being always available online, but I'll see how I go :)

You can easily replace the music with .OGG versions to make it sound as it did originally - see http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=12787.0

There is a music patch/replacement for this http://www.gamefront.com/files/22135087/Fixed%20FF7%20Fixed%20Music%20v2.zip

Any news on that anniversary complete collection hitting Australia? I'm guessing no =(

Is it weird that even owning the original discs (non platinum) and the psn download I'm still tempted to purchase again?

I have the original Playstation version, platinum version (for that FF8 bonus disc) and PSN and I'm sorely tempted....

any guess how long its on special for or what the price will be after?

GOing to dig up some online reviews see how it plays compared :) Don't think I have ever played the original one so it will be interesting run :)

Too late. All of Kotaku pirated it in nerd rage.

I didn't - so not all of Kotaku did, :-P

You are clearly not kotaku enough.

Neither am I, despite owning the original discs. (They're literally a metre away from me right now, staring.)

How kotaku can one be? What must I do!

Download this game? Then talk about how you prefer VI anyway.

"You may remember that, last month, Australians were unable to buy Final Fantasy VII"

Nope. I bought it on PSN last month.

This any better than the original emulated on PC?

what resolution does it run at?

I got it when it came out, trick was just tell them you live in the US put in a bunch of fake info and it was done. No issues with it at all.
