How To Annoy Metal Gear’s Creator: Ask Him About Project Ogre

Remember when Hideo Kojima jokingly told Kotaku readers to petition Konami so that he didn’t have to make Metal Gear Solid anymore? Good times. But as the stunning debut trailer for the newest Metal Gear Solid, the open world game MGS: Ground Zeroes, proves, yes, Hideo Kojima does have to make Metal Gear Solid.

That’s not a bad thing! Just don’t ask the guy about Project Ogre.

For months now, Kojima has been trumpeting a new title, which is codenamed Project Ogre. Is Metal Gear: Ground Zeroes this game? Um, no. Apparently, it’s not. What’s more, the game creator is sick of people asking him if Ground Zeroes is Project Ogre. But who could blame them?

Previously, Kojima said that in Project Ogre, he will “deal quite a few issues that are pretty delicate and taboo.” In December 2011, a CNN piece surfaced on Project Ogre, saying that it was Kojima’s next game and that the game is “set in a very open world where players can wander around and explore freely”, and that “players should still be able to find new sights and worthwhile adventures after having played the game for as many as 100 hours”.

While at the PAX event in Seattle, Kojima tweeted: “While I am happy to know people liked MGS Ground Zeroes, I’m sick & tired of people keep asking me like ‘is that project Ogre?’ here in Seattle everyday. Project Ogre is what the project that Ogre appears. Ogre does not appear in MGS Ground Zeroes trailer.”

So…what’s Project Ogre? (And don’t you dare say the project that Ogre appears.) From what Kojima said earlier and knowing that Ground Zeroes is a MGS5 prologue, Project Ogre sure seems like it’s Metal Gear Solid 5 — a title nearly given to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
