I Played These Games Last Week. What Did You Play?

I didn't think I'd be playing much of anything new last week, so I went and reinstalled the wonderful DarthMod for Empire Total War and imagined seven days spent conquering the world. Didn't happen! These games happened instead.

MADDEN 13 - Fun fact: despite my inherent Australianness, I'm actually a massive NFL fan. So I try and play at least some of each year's Madden. This year's is...well, it's getting better. It's still the "worst" EA Sports game, I think, in that it does the poorest job of recreating the sport it's representing. The blocking and running games, two of the sport's fundamentals, are still a mess. But I like the improved player visuals, and connected careers is a feature more games could learn from.

GUILD WARS II - I'm trying. God, I'm trying. But this is still too much of an MMO for me. Too many buttons, too much shit flying around on the screen at once. If I'm ever going to play an MMO it's going to be Skyrim where the other people are real people, and until that happens, I think I'm just going to have to sit the genre out.

MARK OF THE NINJA - Oh boy. Haven't been this pleasantly surprised by an XBLA game in a long time. The way it turns stealth - normally something passive - into an aggressive toolset is to be applauded. I'm having a blast with this.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: DIASPORA - If you own a PC, and you like BSG, you have, oh, zero reasons at all to not already be playing this. The crummy menu screens are about the only thing reminding you that this is a free game made by fans, and not something you just had to pay $US40 for. The best part? The way it nails the little mushroom fields of explosions when the Galactica and Basestars go at it.

I managed to get in a whopping 2 hours of Sleeping Dogs while my wife napped on the weekend. Being PC-less means I can't play anything while she's watch TV or playing something, nor is she distracted by Minecraft so I can get in some Xbox gaming.

Hopefully that all changes on Saturday! *fingers crossed*

are u getting divorced on saturday?

Mechwarrior: Online (Closed Beta, yes I'm a founder so I am allowed to say I am in the Closed Beta :) hehe)

Crysis 2: Maximum Edition (with DX11 and Hi-Rez patch) - only managed 15 minutes with this because it was a late purchase into Sunday and the download is 12GB plus another 2GB for the patches. Bought this more for the 75% sale and the graphics/eye-candy.

Skyrim (with hi-rez): Wanted to test out my new card on the game I'd already played a bit of.

MinerWars (Alpha) - New patch was released.. so played it a little bit.

Sleeping Dogs - Finished this over the weekend. 27 hours in total with plenty of collectible and side-missions still not done.

Finished Crysis 2 last night (didn't have a machine that would do it justice until a couple of weeks ago when I replaced my flaky 4870X2 with a GTX680...). I did install DX11 and HD textures, although I wish those options had been available in the Origin store. It looks fantastic. Story was as good as I expected, possibly a little short. If you've played Crysis and Warhead, you'll know what to expect with the level design. Standard criticism of "it's not as free-roaming as Far Cry" apply... :-) I'll be going back to it though, I did enjoy it a lot.

Next up for me - Mirror's Edge (Shameless Gaming Second Half Of The Year...)

Sleeping Dogs as well here... fantastic game, not enough hours to play it

After owning GTA4 on PS3 since release, I picked it up for PC last week after being enticed by the LCPD:FR mod. So I've been playing (and tinkering) with that for the last week.

About the menus its still running of a engine released in the late 90's early 00's so i think they can be forgiven for the structure, the menu graphics are a massive improvement over the default free space ones.

Guild wars has seven buttons. I'm pretty sure mario 64 was more complicated.

But im glad you enjoyed the hut huts

Still having some fun with LA: Noire (which I picked up from Steam while it was on sale). I've got Dead Space * DS 2, but can't really "get" the camera angle in DS 1 after spending so long with a "straight behind" view..

Finished ME3 Leviathan DLC, was a bit meh really due to short and mostly uninteresting gameplay.

Also started and finished Dead Space 2, really enjoyed it and some of the visuals in it were pretty amazing. Definitely worth the $5 I paid for it :)

Still working on Rayman Origins...it torments you throughout and I finished it but I still let it torment me. That last tooth is a biiiiitch

I'll be playing Guild Wars 2 but I don't know how much more steam I have left. The combat is fun but what seems to be killing it for me is the classic 'pick a target, peel it off, kill it, repeat' solo PvE mentality. It's not a very grindy game but walking along a path window shopping wide open fields of monsters, plucking off the ones you feel like killing really amplifies your awareness of how valuable each individual monster is to progression.
There's decent encounter variation by MMORPG standards but I think the game would be greatly improved if there was a difference between fighting your way to the center of an ogre camp and fighting wolves to get to a mining node just off the path. It's not a game breaker but it means I'll need a little extra push to summon the motivation to get to cap.

Guild Wars 2, Tribes: Ascend and Orcs must die 2!

I gotta say, after all the hype and expectation I've had of GW2; I've been more than pleasantly satisfied with what the game turned out to be. Lots to do, all of it fun (in my experience). Plus I'm only level 40.

Need to put as much time into GW2 as I can, as I'll soon be writing a review of the game=]

Finished Driver San Francisco over the weekend, it was awesome. Always loved Driver 1 so this was a return to form. Plus the old tv ad for Driver 1 was amazing. Also got a a bit further into Dark Souls, chipping away at Sen's Fortress.

Finished MGS Peace Walker and then I rocked Asura's Wrath. Both unreal games. I'm taking Asura's Wrath back to the EB games tomorrow for the good old EB games switcharoo
