While Nintendo made public announcements earlier this morning about the Wii U's price and release date in Japan, they were mysteriously silent on final specs for the console.
A post on VGleaks has appeared this morning, though, claiming to have info direct from Nintendo's restricted developer's site. Take this with a grain of salt, of course, but the numbers read as follows:
"Espresso" CPU on the Wii U has three enhanced Broadway cores
"GPU7" AMD Radeon™-based High Definition GPU. Unique API = GX2, which supports Shader Model 4.0 (DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 3.3 equivalent functionality)
Mem1 = 32MB Mem2 = 1GB (that applications can use)
Internal 8 GB with support for SD Cards (SD Cards up to 2GB/ SDHC Cards up to 32GB) and External USB Connected Hard Drives
802.11 b/g/n Wifi
Supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i
Video Cables Supported:
Compatible cables include HDMI, Wii D-Terminal, Wii Component Video, Wii RGB, Wii S-Video Stereo AV and Wii AV.
Four USB 2.0 Ports
Is it legit? We'll soon find out. But know this: information contained here and in Nintendo's official announcement matches with what Kotaku was told back in May 2011. The 25GB discs, 2GB of memory, the 8GB of on-board storage, it all fits.
We'll be bringing you Western release information live from Nintendo's big New York briefing at 10am ET. Hopefully there'll be some official word on specs to be seen there!
