The last time we featured the art of Nick Carver was in 2008, when the dude was looking for a job. Today, he seems to be doin’ OK, as he’s a senior artist at Blizzard.
Having spent over five years at Free Radical, later Crytek UK, Carver has been at Blizzard since 2009, where he’s been working on the company’s top secret successor to World of Warcraft, the MMO known only as Project Titan.
If you’re wondering where all these post-steampunk (note: not a real term) images come from, it’s a personal project of his set in the alternate early 20th-century city of Dustrum, which is being made into a book and which looks amazing.
You can see more of Nick’s work at his personal site (thanks CAW!).
To see the larger pics in all their glory (or so you can save them as wallpaper), right-click on them below and select “open in new tab”.
Completely mesmerizing.
great stuff!! very diverse too
some of the art looks like TF2+Bioshock Infinite.
I want a DYGUN….
More like Arcanum in the future
zomg steampunk blizzard MMO? Say whatever you want of them, but they’re a class act and it will be a game that goes down in history.
Absolutely fantastic! I think that’s more Dieselpunk though. Steampunk tends to have more brass and well, steam, as well as a Victorian aesthetic. Dieselpunk is more to do with an almost art-deco style, smoke, industry and a post WWI/pre-WW2 aesthetic.
Steampunk > Dieselpunk > Cyberpunk.
I will never go back to WoW but if Blizz’s next MMO is a more mature Steampunk aesthetic, it will be an instant purchase for me.
