The Studio Behind WipEout Is Gone, But The Game May Still Be Alive And Well

When Sony Liverpool (once Psygnosis) was shut down earlier this year, it looked like the end for the WipEout series.

However, earlier today it seemed that rumours of WipEout‘s demise were greatly exaggerated. Earlier today on the game’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, a piece of art appeared with the clear but ambiguous message, “WE. ARE. ALIVE.”

A few hours later, the WipEout 2048 Facebook page was updated with the message:

Good afternoon Pilots

As you may be aware; Studio Liverpool shut its doors on the 22nd of August 2012.

It was a very sad day- the end of an era and will never be forgotten. While we wait for news on the future of WipEout, Online play will continue to be supported and there will be plenty of WipEout community events, giveaways and goodies to look forward to!

WipEout’s passion will live on – Together we are stronger and together we will keep WipEout alive.

WE ♥ WO!

While WipEout 2048 players are no doubt glad to find their game is still receiving support, the “news on the future of WipEout” is more mysterious. Perhaps the world will indeed get more zippy, futuristic racing games after all.
