Expect More Mass Effect, But Not Another Commander Shepard, Says BioWare

Years ago, game studio BioWare said Mass Effect 3 would be Shepard's last. Now, BioWare is saying that, yep, it was serious. That's it, no more Commander Shepard in Mass Effect 4 — or whatever the heck the game's eventually called.

Speaking with game site VG247, BioWare Montreal producer Fabrice Condominas said, "There is one thing we are absolutely sure of — there will be no more Shepard, and the trilogy is over."

Continuing, Condominas said that this was the team's "starting point", stressing how "vast" and "rich" the Mass Effect universe was.

"So first, we don't want to make 'Shepard 2', or Mass Effect 4 with like, 'Oh there's no more Shepard but you're a soldier in the universe,'" said Condominas.

"So this will be a very, very different context for sure, and nothing has been decided on the rest."

What about a creepy smile? Will the next Mass Effect have that?

Please first contact war with a Turian and Human perspective.

Omg yes! My friend and I also talked about a game centred around the mercenaries in the game... But I think first contact war would be awesome!

I say forget the human perspective. Make it all from the viewpoint of the Turians - who see the humans as this evil, warlike people.

But thing is, to have both perspectives, they'd need to split the perspectives from one character to another.
Also, the human side would be boring since they wouldn't have access to advanced biotics as they didn't become one of the lesser alliance species.
Also, no intergalactic space travel if human, I think. I could be wrong, since i haven't read the mass effect books on the Illusive man.

Then again, maybe the human side could be about humans trying to get other human nations to ally together and help fight off the turian threat, which kinda sounds interesting.

    ^this
i would love a game where you play through the history of the mass effect universe going over the morning war, rachi wars and krogan rebelions and the first contact war

    BioBlow

Yes, I can say random words also.

      Xylophone

        And me, aardvark!

I want a politically tense Quarian courtroom drama with Phoenix Wright style gameplay.

    "OBJECTION!!! You Bosh'tet!"

    and so forth...

You know what I'd really like? A new trilogy, taking place concurrently with the existing games, but focusing on some other set of characters in the galaxy. (I don't want to say space pirates, but a non-government approved team who always have to stay one step ahead of the law?) If they were really clever, it could load your existing save games, and you could interact with your characters from the first three games at some points - you run a mission for Liara-as-Shadow-Broker, that sort of thing.

      This would be great.

Something less low-key than Shepard's mission would be interesting also.

How about a game centered around Joker? Maybe his acadamy training?

Shut up & make KOTOR 3 already! Mass Effect aint got nothin' on KOTOR

I want the next one to be set after me3, no prequels plz

You know, that'd be the one game I wouldn't play -or at least, least likely to play. Unless they end up using the ending I chose to continue the story!

I'll take the space-pirates or prequel instead. The story doesn't have to be about a hero saving the universe to be compelling. In fact, I'll be disappointed if we have to save the universe more-or-less single-handedly again.

The First Contact war would be awesome to playthrough... But ultimately you know the outcome... You know from the beginning how it's all going to end.
I want to see the new mass effect game set in a completely different galaxy.
If the Reapers lived in the space between galaxies, it's plausable that they'd be harvesting in more than one galaxy.
Or maybe a single Reaper overcame it's programming? Went in search of somewhere to hide? Or begin anew?
New technology, new alien races, completely new start, but it would still retain the whole mass effect feel...?

Yeah it would be interesting to see one of the endings of Mass Effect (not going to say what because i hate spoilers) come into the lore as canon and then see ANOTHER universe have a familiar threat, then cameos from some of the other races?

Or better yet, after Mass Effect 3, things are obviously a little messed up, what about a continuation of what would happen after the ware with the rebuilding and reconnecting and all?

I'd personally prefer sequels. I'd also very much like to have the choice to play as one of the alien races. Mass Effect: Origins, maybe?

Maybe a MMO-RPG (something like Borderland 2 or SWTOR) where you can play as any number of races (Asari, Turians, Drell, etc.) and do missions for well-known characters. (E.g. Ex-squadmates like Samara, Wrex, Jack, or missions from the shadow broker, Liara, etc.) Maybe set during the war with the Reapers, even.

That said, I wouldn't mind a game set during the First Contact War, though. It'd be very interesting to see how it plays out. I wouldn't mind playing as the Turians and seeing their side of the war :)

as much as the universe behind ME trilogy was vast, i still feel that shepard was what made ME great. then they abandoned shepard because it became too hard for them. its easy to cut and run then start anew and it saddens me that it had to end like this. I hope they fix the mistakes and don't dumb down the gameplay and storyline to appeal to new players as well as staying true to the "completely new" philosophy. as for me, i don't think there is anything they could do to make me play a new ME game but it would be interesting to see what they come up with. something tells me though that they will deviate from "your choices make a difference" as in the end it was always a predetermined ending no matter what choice you made and was but an illusion right up until the very end.
