Square Enix is busy readying the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV. The Tokyo-based game company doesn’t just working on making sure the PS3 version is up to snuff, but it’s also aiming for it to become the standard for MMORPGs on home consoles.

In the upcoming issue of Famitsu, Square Enix seems to have shed more light on the user interface for the long awaited PS3 version.

“Live”, “Content”, “Social”, “Map”, “My Character”, “HUD” and “System” will be the seven sections on a XMB type interface that will be familiar to all PS3 owners. Each section will then bring up a subsection. For example, under My Character, there will be subsections like “Pose”, “My Items”, “Action Menu” and “Event Items”.

There’s a Cross Hot Bar, which was previously announced, that allows you to set and operate shortcuts for main commands, as well as for text and macro. The shortcuts are located in four horizontally arranged icon sets in the lower part of the screen. These are the grouped and accessed by the L2 and the R2 buttons and the directional pad or the face buttons. Using each shoulder button to cycle through the cross sets, players get quick access to commands. This user interface will be available to PC gamers who play with controllers.

“We didn’t want to put the player using a controller at a disadvantage,” user interface lead Hiroshi Minagawa told Famitsu. “Using a mouse and a keyboard is typically popular all over the world, but with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, we’re aiming to be the standard for MMORPGs played with controllers.”

  • But it won’t be. Brand has already shot itself in the foot, then amputated said foot, and then proceeded to eat it’s own chopped off foot. Even if it grows back, people don’t want that foot.

    Or something.

    • roflmao well said Sir… however i’m a complete sucker for this game and can’t wait for it to be re-re-re-released.

      Or something.

    • Personally I’m reserving final judgement until they release the ground-up rebuild they’ve been working on the last year or two. I played the game when it released and it was pretty awful, but I felt like there was some seeds of a decent game hidden in there.

    • Whoa you’re way too quick to jump the gun seeing as the jury is still out on that one. Alpha tests start this month and a PS3 public beta test starts in the latter half of when PC’s begin. I want to play this game more than anything and a bad start says nothing on what could possibly become a good ending. ARR in itself is a new battlefield that deserves a new outlook. While its predecessor may be below average ARR is look and shaping up to become a platform from which other MMO’s can be based on. Another thing is don’t speak for those who aren’t yourself. Properly convey your opinions before going on about what the people don’t want.

  • Man SE is working hard on so many Projects atm – FF 14: RR, FF13: Lightning Returns and FF13:Versus not to mention their abundance of iOS games released.. it must be pretty crazy in their studios right about now.
