Guild Wars 2 Is Getting A Huge, Halloween-Themed Update

The world of Guild Wars 2 is getting ready for Halloween with a major content update coming on October 22. "Be prepared for an epic adventure in four acts", running until October 31, ArenaNET says on this page detailing the update.

Halloween decorations, mini-games and dynamic events will accompany "Shadow of the Mad King," the first major game release for Guild Wars 2. From its description, it sounds like a ghost hunt, for the 250-year-old spirit of Mad King Thorn.

The Black Lion Trading Company also is stocking Halloween costumes plus other new items, PvP paid tournaments (which you may read more about here) also arrive, and a broad, non-Halloween themed update bringing "new events, jumping puzzles, bosses, mini-dungeons, and achievements appearing across a variety of maps," is also included.

I might actually play gw2 again when it come out

Guild Wars 2 is amazing! It revolutionizes MMORPG! >Just BUY it

It's good for GW2 and sad for other MMOs that a game with no sub fee gets updated more often than all those sub games that supposedly brings you better service due to their sub fee.

I've been playing GW2 170hrs so far, and it's awesome, but I wouldn't say the updates are faster than other games. Every single game will have a massive halloween update this october.

I was talking more about the:

"non-Halloween themed update bringing “new events, jumping puzzles, bosses, mini-dungeons, and achievements appearing across a variety of maps,”"

Considering your average sub game gets an ok size update what? every 6months? If that. It's still faster than them.

As far as servers go, I still win all 1v1 engagements in WvWvW (although I lose most 1v2 engagements unless I get really lucky). So my ping has been good enough for me to not care about local servers.

Apparently the 'service' for sub fees goes towards better servers and such, or at least that is the case according to some of my friends who still play World of Warcraft -- but if that were the case, why don't we have local hosted servers, like The Old Republic had? ;)

The Mad King? Well, that's surprising. They're bringing back the same Halloween event they had for the original Guild Wars.

lol no it doesnt... it makes a fair few changes buts hardly "revolutionary"

it's not revolutionary compared to GW1 maybe, but it is revolutionary compared to the derivative wow-clone trash that we normally get. GW2 has made a great change in pretty much all the core areas of an MMO, from business model, PvE, PvP, crafting/gathering, gear.

'Deposit Collectibles' is incredibly nice. So is having the Mail integrated into the UI. There's a lot of little quality of life stuff that this game has that other MMOs don't. Whether you like the changes or not is subjective, after all not everybody likes a revolution. But it is objectively revolutionary.
