The Next Game From The People Behind The Witcher Is Called Cyberpunk 2077

We've known for a while that CD Projekt Red, the folks who make those great Witcher role-playing games, are making a new sci-fi game. Previously codenamed "Cyberpunk," it now has an official title. Cyberpunk 2077.

It also has a new official website.

Here's CD Projekt Red on their new cybery, punky game, which is based on author Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk series:

The cyberpunk atmosphere, well known from William Gibson's novels, the "Blade Runner" movie and the famous pen-and-paper game, "Cyberpunk 2020", will surround the player. The creators promise that "Cyberpunk 2077" will be true to the essence of the cyberpunk genre. Players will be thrown into the dark future of the year 2077 and into a world where advanced technologies have become both the salvation and the curse of humanity. A multi-thread, nonlinear story designed for mature players (a CD Projekt RED trademark) will take place in the sprawling metropolis of Night City and its surroundings. Players will have a chance to visit places well known from "Cyberpunk 2020", including a combat zone completely taken over by gangs, the legendary Afterlife joint and the nostalgic Forlorn Hope.

Freedom of action and diversity in gameplay will be delivered thanks to the sandbox nature of the game and mechanics inspired by the "Cyberpunk 2020" pen-and-paper system, fine tuned to meet the requirements of a modern RPG. Gameplay will pump adrenaline through players' veins and be consistent with the celebrated Cyberpunk spirit — rebellion, style, edge, uncertainty. And of course, a cyberpunk reality cannot be deprived of murderous steel — guns, rifles, implants, dozens of gadgets and other varied pieces of equipment needed to survive on the streets of Night City. The developers are focused on making the technology of 2077 credible and exciting.

Day one purchase. I love CDProjekt.

Designed for mature players... That sounds like a Refused Classification right there. Such a shame

I think we're OK. CDProjekt doesn't treat "Designed for mature players" as code for boobs, sex and blood. They mean things like political intrigue and complex relationships.

I'm sorta relying on the fact that their previous titles (The Witcher franchise) were marketed as games for adults, and were allowed to be sold in Australia.

Though the second one had several scenes removed for the Australian version, as far as I understand, everything else was left intact. I don't really enjoy someone removing content without my consent, but I didn't really mind what they omitted (a few sex scenes), and to me, didn't detract from the game at all.

Hopefully it will either be the same treatment or even better (no content cutting at all) for this upcoming game since I thoroughly enjoyed both Witcher games and look forward to this game.

Well hopefuly we will have the R rating before its released so less likly to be refused, but will definatlyl be a day one purchase like thom says.

I pre-purchased TW2 from Steam as soon as it was available to do so. Shortly after, the game was pulled from Steam for Australian players and put back up later after the censored version was approved for classification. As a result, because I pre-purchased the original version, I received the original version. A nice surprise.

Won't be out for another 2 years or so, so rated R ;)

We will have an R18 raiting everywhere by the time this comes out.

Wow... reading back on this old thing, amazing how times have changed...

    Take my wallet, etc.

So very, very keen on this.

I also dream of it doing so well that they get the Shadowrun licence for the sequel :-)

I like the sound of everything but the title

Yeah, I was gonna say the title sounds a bit generic, literally a genre rather than a name that uniquely identifies the product. It would be like calling an FPS "Modern Warfare" or "Battlef-" wait...

Well, they could have put an X in the year some where...

        Cyberpunk Twenty Exty Seven!

Yeah i was hoping it might be a working title but then i saw it is based on a series. oh well its only a name. if it was called princess barbies sparkliest adventure ever omg but played well it would still be a good game.

Its a very classic sounding name if you ask me, very retro sci-fi.

Color me excited!! TAKE MY MONEY, GODDAMMIT!!

I'm so glad skimpy cotton panties exist in the future.

Will deff look at this. impressed with what they did with TW2 CE and i would love to support a studio that looks after there customers

Yes! I want to play this! Looking forward to it.

I LOVE CDPROJEKT! the witcher 2 was freaking awesome!

This game looks intriguing as well...but that image is freaking me out for some reason...

I just realised why. It reminds me of the necromorphs from dead space. The whites of the eyes, with no pupils; the blades popping out of her forearms like the necromorph claws, with the hands staying at an odd angle. Creepy

well, really small pupils. Also, the disjointed elbow is also necromorph like

Really, really hoping this is going to be pretty close to a Ghost in the Shell RPG, if that's the case the developers should get their heads down before I start throwing all my cash at them.

Man! I actually used to play Cyberpunk 2020! One of their main selling points was that they used actual FBI gunfight data in how you shot at each other in the game and it was interesting to see them talking about how most shootings happened no more that 10ft away from everyone involved.
