This Guy Sculpted Some Of Your Childhood’s Most Cherished Toys

If you grew up in the 80s and 90s, you probably don’t know Scott Hensey by name, but you’ll know his work. Because you probably owned some of it.

He’s one of the all-time great toy sculptors, a man whose job was to shape and define the action figures that made up so many childhoods across the world. In the video above, part of a new series from MAKE, we get to meet the man behind the toys.

His most important work was probably on the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line, though if you ever had a Street Sharks or original Toy Story figure, that was him as well. He’s also worked on Star Wars and Disney stuff as well, so if you’ve never owned any of this stuff, I’ll assume you never grew up, and in fact simply materialised in the year 2012.
