I managed to get some hands-on time with Assassin’s Creed III late last week (full write-up soon I promise) and I was pretty blown away by it. But at this point, close to release, I really did feel as though Ubisoft hadn’t done a good enough job of really explaining ‘Connor’. Considering how well loved Ezio became to Assassin’s Creed II and it’s subsequent sequels, I thought that was a bit of an oversight. But this new trailer does a great job of bringing a bit of background to the character.
As good as this trailer is, with the explosions and the stirring soundtrack and what-not, what I loved most during my short time with Assassin’s Creed III was the downtime. There’s a real Red Dead Redemption feel to the environments and, more importantly, the pacing. The game’s environment is massive, and has an incredible sense of place.
This trailer doesn’t capture much of that — and it’s not really the point — but I think what I’m most looking forward to, as far as Assassin’s Creed III is concerned, is spending some more time in the world itself.
