A Look Back At Valkyria Chronicles 3

Valkyria Chronicles 3 is one of the most infamous of last generation’s Japan-only PSP titles. After the moderate success of the previous two games in the series around the world, it is surprising that the latest iteration never left Japan. But whatever the reason it was never picked up for worldwide distribution, it certainly wasn’t due to any problems in the gameplay.

From the map screen, you move through the story. You can see events as well as do free missions, extra missions and story missions. Occasionally the game lets you choose the path your army will travel, making you choose one of two events or missions.

In battle, Valkyria 3 plays much like past games in the series. You deploy your chosen forces, select a unit to move, and become that character for a limited time in a semi-TPS format. This time it adds special moves for several of the main characters that completely change how some battles are played.

Valkyria Chronicles 3 was released in Japan on January 27, 2011, for the PlayStation Portable. It is (regrettably) not scheduled for release outside of Japan.

I'm curious how big Kotaku's Japanese audience is? : /
Not really a look back for anyone else, and just reminds me how jelly I am we never got this :(

it is a huge bummer that there is no planned release for this outside of japland

I still dont get why the first one was on ps3, then they had to move to the psp. It didnt really do the title justice.

Wait a minute, that first map is the exact same map from VC2! Maybe it's for the best this never released here if they've just copy/pasted the levels and gameplay?

About the maps, it has all the VC2 maps (mostly on non-story missions), a few PSP versions of VC1 maps, and tons of new ones. There's probably more than double the maps total.

The VC anime was wonderful - just saying!

i think it would be cool if they re-released all the games 1-3 on the Vita and PS3, not as HD ports but the same quality as VC1 on both the vita and PS3.

i would buy all 3 if they were portable and visualy pleasing as number 1
