A Look Back At Valkyria Chronicles 3

Valkyria Chronicles 3 is one of the most infamous of last generation’s Japan-only PSP titles. After the moderate success of the previous two games in the series around the world, it is surprising that the latest iteration never left Japan. But whatever the reason it was never picked up for worldwide distribution, it certainly wasn’t due to any problems in the gameplay.

From the map screen, you move through the story. You can see events as well as do free missions, extra missions and story missions. Occasionally the game lets you choose the path your army will travel, making you choose one of two events or missions.

In battle, Valkyria 3 plays much like past games in the series. You deploy your chosen forces, select a unit to move, and become that character for a limited time in a semi-TPS format. This time it adds special moves for several of the main characters that completely change how some battles are played.

Valkyria Chronicles 3 was released in Japan on January 27, 2011, for the PlayStation Portable. It is (regrettably) not scheduled for release outside of Japan.
