Activision Suddenly Pulls Nuketown 2025 Map From Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

Activision Suddenly Pulls Nuketown 2025 Map From Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Multiplayer

Earlier this month, Activision announced that it would let people who pre-ordered the publisher’s latest FPS mega-hit play on a re-imagined version of the popular Nuketown multiplayer map. That part of the promotion turned out to be true. But that access to the special battleground appears to have been suddenly revoked. The sudden bad news was confirmed via tweet from Treyarch game design director David Vonderhaar:

As you’d expect, fans are up in arms over the fact that the map has gone AWOL. Kotaku has reached out to Activision for comment and will update this post if they respond.

  • Wait it’s gone all together?

Because the Nuketown 2025 specific game type was playable since launch, and it was never mentioned anywhere to be specifically for the Double XP Weekend

    Such a fun map!

    • It was fun dude

and I can understand they want to make it a part of the money grubbing scheme DLC packs because all the fans raged about it not being included unless it was pre order content

But then, I have pre ordered it….so give me the ability to play it, because that was why I pre ordered.

      Class action law suit anyone?

      • They pulled it from online play prob cuz not everyone pre ordered.
And they prob put it back after a good a good
        Amount of people have it.

  • “We will give dedicated servers” = bullshit
“issues from previous games addressed” = bullshit
    “nuketown 2025 pre-order bonus map” = bullshit
    Activision/tryarch = lying pricks

    • I’m quite sure that it doesn’t run P2P servers, I’ve been in servers where everybody was on two/three bar pings, and thus nobody being host. It must run dedis, but without the server list.

        • they have dedicated P2P servers, they have primary host servers in the US that everyone connects to, and then they have P2P for everyone else.

So no TRUE dedicated servers, no control by the community means hackers run rampant and activision/tryarch BS 24-48 ban control is utter crap.
and with the shithouse lag compensation they have mixed with hosted servers, its a 50/50 chance of even landing a hit on someone standing directly at the end of your guns barrel when you spray 30 rounds at them.

You cant see how bad it is watching game replays, people get headshots and tehy dont register, but people who hit the wall next to someone seems to count as a hit.

@nex below, incorrect mate, i didnt buy MW3 cos it had a host system and not dedicated servers, then we were promised true dedicated servers for PC blops2 and then they pull this shit a couple weeks before launch.

  • It would not surprise me in the least if the ‘pre-order access’ was simply to play the map for this weekend, then charge for the map later.

Yet another reason I won’t give any money to these guys.

  • He mentions 24-7. I don’t play cod, but surely he means it’ll only be available like weekends or special times?

    • Nuketown was in its own playlist. It was called Nuketown 24/7 with that being the only map with different game modes. I only played 2 matches on it though 🙁

  • Not that I care about CoD.. but wasn’t this a pre-order map? Or were they just “allowing” pre-orders to “preview” the map?

  • Man, I try to defend CoD to all the haters that hate for no reason, but they are sure making it difficult to defend them

  • I’m not defending it, but the map is still available via Custom Playlists… so it can be still played, just not with randoms and have the ability to gain XP.

Devious ploy from all that were involved, especially where they might be some legit customers that might not have redeemed all the codes, etc since they bought it.

  • Wait this cannot be serious?

Here in Australia the server issues have been horrible since launch. So we pre-ordered with something. The game is broken and a lag fest. Then they take that away before getting the game playable except for random chance?

My theory however is that everyone is just playing nuke town and not the new maps. That’s what I was doing. Mainly because it was playable with the horrible lag and latency. The others weren’t.

      • Hey, at least you guys can get online. All I’ve got since launch is “Black Ops II servers are unavailable. Please check for updates.” constantly. I was only able to get in about 4 hours of online from midnight to 4am, and nothing since. Not even zombies.

    • And don’t forget the price dropped by $10 on steam on launch day So if you pre-ordered it to get Nuketown you basically payed $10 extra for a map you could only play for 6 days…….

  • They’ve tweeted saying the map will be back for special events, my guess is they removed it because they didn’t want people spam levelling on nuke town like in the original black ops. However re-allowing it on special events like double xp weekends means its just gonna be a massive lag fest on those days.

  • It’s funny because on all of the retail versions it says specifically: “Nuketown 2025: bonus Map Included” not “Nuketown 2025: Bonus Map available for one weekend and whenever we decide to let you guys have it again. Enjoy your waste of $100”

  • Yeah i noticed the other day that Nuketown 2025 is apart of the Season pass and will be available in December as DLC. I didn’t bother purchasing the Season Pass yet as I obviously already had Nuketown as part of my preorder but nothing i have seen says that it was only for a specific time period. This is a crock, even though i don’t really play that map.

    • I bought the Steam digital upgrade to deluxe edition last night, i got the msg “you already own componant nuketown 2025 map, this will not be added as a bonus item blah blah” so if they then release it as DLC and refuse to give it to pre-order customers as promised or those that got the deluxe edition there will be hell to pay from raging nerd.

Im not even a Fan of the nuketown map, worst map in blops and blops2 IMO but its just poor form to use it as an incentive to buy the game early, then take it away a few days after… mega dick move on the devs behalf

  • Yeah, I’m pissed off about this too. It reeks of being a sneaky, underhanded ploy to get people to preorder and then not giving people what they expect.

Nice way to dodge around the law by making it technically still available via private matches too! Assholes!

  • Wow that’s lame, I work somewhere that offered the map as a pre order bonus, and we were never told any thing about this.
The wording sure does suggest that it was more of a preview than any thing.
My money is on what other people have said,
Map preview and will be in the first map pack.

    Good work activision

  • What I love, is that because people keep buying CoD each year, Activision will continue to push the boundaries of what they can get away with.

For those who have stopped buying CoD, seeing what Activision will do to punish their customers every year is the REAL game we enjoy annually.

  • Hmmm. I do not see anywhere on the steam store page for those of us that upgraded from standard to deluxe that the maps are a very limited time based sale?

    The Digital Deluxe Edition Includes:
Nuketown 2025 Bonus Map – Relive the close quarters chaos of this classic fan-favorite map re-imagined in a 1960s visionary depiction of the “model home of the future.”
Nuketown Zombies Bonus Map – Battle hordes of Zombies in this beloved 1960s nuclear neighborhood.
    Refund possible now?

  • Wish I had bothered to keep up with all of this before picking up the game thinking they still ran with the same model as BO1. Wasn’t great but had some fun, 15 mins looking for a game. Does not surprise me the map went missing. Oh well you got my $100, never again.

  • just loaded the game up and i still have access to the map, Playlist > bonus > Chaos Moshpit. But each time i try and load it i go to different maps. what jews, sure they found a pocket in their huge noses for all the extra cash.

  • I conceive this site has got some real excellent information for everyone.
