Behind The Scenes Of ZombiU

With five days left until the Wii U launches in Australia, one of the games you’re likely eyeing off is ZombiU. If you’re still undecided as to whether or not you should pick it up, the developers have put together a behind the scenes video that explains some of the game’s concepts and mechanics.

One goal of the design was creating the proper atmosphere by eliciting the feel of classic survival horror games where your perspective was limited and every corner was insufficiently lit. It also shows how players can communicate with each other using spray paint by combining various symbols. A baseball bat, a set of stairs and what I’m guessing is a zombie are used as an example.

An important point was to make sure each zombie encounter was a tense, life-or-death moment, which is hard to do if you’re killing them by the bucketload a la Left 4 Dead.

The early concept trailers did a good job of showing exactly how ZombiU would work, so much so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were used by developer Ubisoft Montpellier to pitch the game to the Ubisoft mothership and Nintendo.
