Behind The Scenes Of ZombiU

With five days left until the Wii U launches in Australia, one of the games you're likely eyeing off is ZombiU. If you're still undecided as to whether or not you should pick it up, the developers have put together a behind the scenes video that explains some of the game's concepts and mechanics.

One goal of the design was creating the proper atmosphere by eliciting the feel of classic survival horror games where your perspective was limited and every corner was insufficiently lit. It also shows how players can communicate with each other using spray paint by combining various symbols. A baseball bat, a set of stairs and what I'm guessing is a zombie are used as an example.

An important point was to make sure each zombie encounter was a tense, life-or-death moment, which is hard to do if you're killing them by the bucketload a la Left 4 Dead.

The early concept trailers did a good job of showing exactly how ZombiU would work, so much so I wouldn't be surprised if they were used by developer Ubisoft Montpellier to pitch the game to the Ubisoft mothership and Nintendo.

Could be a decent way to keep the zombie genre fresh

You obviously haven't seen the repetitive game play footage and the less than average reviews.

Reviews have been all over the place from 9.5s to 4.5s. Its getting bashed for the same reason its getting praised. Some reviewers reviewed it expecting CoD or L4D. Others reviewed it for what it was. So far Miiverse has been unanimous on it being a good game, a few gripes here and there but it accomplishes its main objective of being a true survival horror experience. IMO its the most tense and stressed out I've ever felt playing a video game. I'd say a solid 8/10.

See i saw this form the first 2 trailers, and no one believed me, it doesnt look great, seems too slow down badly in a few areas from what i've seen, and as much as i like permadeath in a game, i think in a game designed to overwhelm you with the undead it wont be fun after the 10th time.

is it just me or does that chick sound like the one who does that computer voice for the GPS's?

    Edit: sigh...
