I’m Glad I Know The Lyrics To This Killer Persona 4 Song

Oh, how I love sunny days in Inaba. I know that Yukiko will be out on the street, or maybe Rise, waiting to hang out. My scooter awaits, and if I want, I can go to the beach. And best of all, every time it’s sunny, this song by Persona maestro Shoji Meguro, will be playing.

At first I wasn’t that into it — the intro is kind of jarring, and it’s so aggressive. But then, once I really learned it and listened to the chorus, I fell in love with it. It’s the way the harmony moves, that resolution to minor in the middle, the little hint of a suspended chord at the end of the phrase. That bassline! This is a song that lives on its epic-length chorus.

But I always misheard the lyric — I thought vocalist Shihoko Hirata was singing “Your Passion.” Nope, turns out it’s “Your affection,” which makes much more sense. Here are the full lyrics, per Animelyrics.com:

Withered flowers forget

What they wept for day after day

Withered flowers blossom

In the stream of tears

They still think of the cause

Turning misery into meaningfulness

Changing day after day

Turning misery into meaningfulness

Changing day after day

Your affection Your affection Taking pride from fear

Past will tell you when to make yourself a hero

Your affection Your affection Your affection

Past will tell you when to make yourself a hero

This song has my affection, anyway. And now, every time it’s sunny, I can sing along.
