PlayStation Plus And Six Free Games Come To The Vita Next Week

The best thing about PlayStation Plus is the Instant Games Collection, a feature that offers up free, top-shelf titles to the online service's paying members. PS3 owners have been enjoying those perks for a while and now they're coming to Sony's gaming handheld.

Next week, six free games — including Gravity Rush, Jet Set Radio and Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions — will be coming to the Vita when PlayStation Plus support comes to the handheld. If you're already a PlayStation Plus member via your PS3, there's no additional cost to access the service on Vita. PlayStation Plus on Vita goes live next week with the 2.0 system update.

Not accurate for Australia, the PAL lineup is different.

      PAL PS Plus get:
      - Uncharted Golden Abyss
      - Gravity Rush
      - Mutant Blobs Attack
      - Chronovolt

Yay for gravity rush, at least.
Was hoping for shiny FF, though.. oh well..

Already finished Uncharted - that was a bloody top game for a portable title... if you ignore the shitty forced puzzles.

Awesome another reason why I hate Sony... was keen for JSR for free... god they suck so much

If you hate Sony, why would you own their products (assuming that's why you read the article)?

      What's the Pal Line-up??

      Also: YES!!!!

If I get an AUS Vita, do you think I could use an american ps3 PSN Plus account with it?

I believe so but keep in mind that you can only have 1 account linked per memory card.

If this is anything like PS3's PS+ system then games will swap out and we'll eventually get the same sort of games anyway.

You absolutely can do this - it's what I do myself.

The only tricky thing is you're stuck buying US PSN point cards unless you have a US credit card with a US billing address to link.

Physical copies of Vita games are unregioned as well, so can be played on any PSN region account. You won't be able to access DLC for those games unless those games are from the same region as your PSN account though (eg I can buy a Japanese version of a Vita game and play on my US account on my Australian system -- I have done this -- but the game's DLC is on the Japanese PSN so my US PSN account won't be able to access it)

But if you download through the jap store you could use the jap game + dlc?

Yep, but then your system & memory card is locked to your JP PSN account.

Basically you need to pick one region for your account and buy your games & DLC through that account, but it doesn't preclude you buying releases from other regions - you'll just miss out on any DLC offered.

Well that's pretty crap. I've got 3 accounts in varying regions on my ps3, to make the most of the console. I've been tempted by the vita with monster hunter and persona recently

The only thing that stops me from becoming a member is that you lose the games if you dont wanna pay anymore.

that's what i taught, but then i finished borderlands and realized, as long as you finish the game, you don't need to keep it...

I was initially of the same mindset, but I've been a member for about a year (I only buy 3 month subscriptions), and I think it's pretty reasonable that I can pay another 17ish for another 3 months, only picking it up again when I really want to play one of my games, or download the new ones

I hesitated for the same reason before becoming a member about 2 years ago, and haven't regretted it. A heap of games to play, and the cloud save feature alone almost justifies the cost, $70 insurance against losing the only things you can't re-download if your system should die.

Times ten - $70 is basically the cost of one retail game. I have over a hundred games via psplus now. Thats the price of a coffee or two a month to access all that plus cloud.

I first got a year sub when they first announced the whole game thing after E3 and that really only accounts to like $6 a month for games I was willing to pay $15+ for (I wanted Space Marine). PS+ has been great even if I don't play the games but I was more than happy with my purchase I extended it another year when they had the sale for a year sub and it was only $50.

Yeah they have to find a selling point for their shitty online service... 1.93gbs of download just to update little big planet.. They are completely fucked in the head

Lay off the hatorade, pal. Plus clearly provides massive value for money, there's no way you could argue otherwise.

Looks like I'm getting a Vita then! :D

This is great news and it pretty much has the games I wanted. US line-up is looking better at the moment (I wanted Wipeout, FF: Tactics and Jet Set) but hopefully we'll get them soon.

Maybe I should go for the US one then :P

Anyone know if you need to have a vita to collect on these? Was planning to pick one up in Canada next month, but won't be back till January, when they may or may noy have changed the games.

I'm pretty sure that Uncharted and Gravity Rush are going to stick around for a while. Dunno yet if you need a Vita to be able to download them - may be able to grab them on a PS3 and then copy them over once you get the Vita, may be required to actually download them on the Vita.

I think they'd just be added to the PSN store. You can buy Vita games from it through the PS3 can't you? If it's anything like PS3's PS+ then you can just purchase them while they're free and download them later even if they've swapped out.

I'm planning on picking up a Vita later this year or next year so I'm also interested in more info.

I think you had to register a psp on ps3 first to actually download psp only games. Im pretty sure when the psn fiasco occurred one of the freebies was a psp game. I didn't own a psp at the time thus I couldn't download it back

Yeah you did, that's exactly why I was curious actually! Guess we'll find out when it goes live. Hopefully you can just add them to cart on the ps3.

There was a comment on the US Blog, you can "purchase" the Vita games via PS+ via the PS3 Storefront.

Once that is done, they will sit in your Download list, so if you don't have a Vita at the moment or will in the future, they will be able when you do.

Excellent, exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

I searched through a few pages on the EU blog but couldn't find the answer, didn't even occur to me to check the US one :P

No one being a conspiracist and thinking it's a sneaky tactic to push more sales for memory cards? :P

Might be enough to start pushing confidence on digital titles as well as the vita itself, as it seems since the revamped ps+ at E3, there's a lot more interest into it. Though i always wondered how Sony are doing it though, i'd imagine there would have to costs somewhere to rent out fairly new, or big games for $70 (?) for 12 months.

Would have bought it for the intro alone, but the game is amazing enough as is!
