The Odd Gentlemen Return With A Distinctively Different Music Puzzle Game

Way back in the golden days of 2010, small developer The Odd Gentlemen released a pie-collecting platform puzzler on Xbox Live Arcade and Steam called The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. It was genius. Then The Odd Gentlemen disappeared into the mists, never to be seen again.

Well, they did do a thing for PlayStation Home called Slap Happy Sam, and they continued to exist on this plane. I guess they were just fine. Ignore that never to be seen again bit, especially now that the developer has released its first iOS game, Flea Symphony.

Flea Symphony is music-puzzler meets psychics-puzzler. Each level is populated by odd machines that twist and turn to the touch. A flea is dropped from the bell of a horn, and it’s up to the player to arrange the machines so that the flea hits them in time with the bar at the top of the screen.

I must admit it took me about 10 levels (of 100, with more to come) to get the hang of the mechanic, and even after that I’m sure blind luck has played more a part in my success than any skill on my part. That’s not so much a comment about the game as a commentary on my life in general.

I would suggest playing on an iPad over a smaller device. Some of the levels require switching about devices in mid-bounce, and my snausage fingers had trouble generating sufficient movement on the tiny iPod Touch screen. Besides, aren’t fleas small enough already? Embiggen them, you cads.

The Odd Gentlemen were never gone. Fine. But now they’re back anyway, with Majesco at their sides, ready to fill your pockets with fleas.
