Wreck-It Ralph Gets Top Score For This Weekend’s Movie Box Office

It’s not out in Australia until Boxing Day, but plenty of gamers in North America threw their goodwill towards the various stunts and trailers that Disney spooled out for Wreck-It Ralph this weekend gone — even if they made fun of modern-day games.

All the hype paid off, with the Disney film pulling in $US49.1 million over the weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. That makes it the highest grossing film ever released by animation division of the mega-corporation.

One thing to note is that Wreck-It Ralph isn’t a movie based on a game, like the Tomb Raider or Resident Evil movies. It’s one that’s about the medium and the love it engenders. That just might be the secret to its success.
