Community Kudos

After delaying last week’s Community Kudos today’s will almost certainly be a humdinger. Welcome to Community Kudos times two!

But first, indulge me a little! Most likely this will be my last Community Kudos for a while. If all goes to plan my wife will soon go into labour and I’ll be a Dad for the first time. I’m taking a month off to do Dad things, so I probably won’t be around for a while! I just wanted to thank everyone for another great year at Kotaku. Thanks for being a super smart, funny, nice community and thanks for being supportive of the work we do here!

Okay dokey. On with the noms. There are a lot of them, and I have a half day today. So I better get a move on!

It seems that last week (not this week — I’ll get to that!) was all about Crazyguy. He is crazy, and I’m assuming he’s a guy. He also tends to gift people games. Lots of people. Lots of games.

It started with probably the shortest and most to the point email I’ve ever received from Chuloopa.

Chuloopa
Crazyguy

I have a reason.
You don’t need to know it.
Give him stuff.

Okay… I sensed something was up.

NotoriousR
I was just sitting at my desk, melting in this heat, playing Super Crate Box, when CRAZYGUY GIFTS ME FAR CRY 3 ON STEAM FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN HE IS PURE AWESOME.

So yeah, noms to the power of noms to him.

Noms to the power of noms? I’m no mathematician. I need to use spell check just to spell mathematician. But that’s a lot of noms.

Another nom came from the Pez dispenser, who also nommed Cakesmith.

Anonymous Pessimist
Whatup my cracker,
Two noms this week:
Caeksmizzle – bought me farcry 3 as a Christmas gift. What a guy (even if that whole hair… Thing he has going on is a little out of control).
Crazyguy – got me FIA gtr racing! Can’t wait to drive me some cars into walls!

This seems like it happened ages ago, but it has been two weeks since the last Community Kudos, so that makes sense. But Effluvium Boy had a housewarming. There were nominations for that as well!

AlexPants
Quick nom for Flu for letting us invade his house for a few hours and be horrible people playing Cards Against Humanity again.
Also a nom for redartifice, who always posts interesting and insightful comments and is an all-round nice guy.

I actually liked the nomination that Flu himself sent in…

Effluvium Boy
Doc What?

Departed Flu’s @ 23:00 Saturday
Arrived home @ 04:00 Sunday

WHERE DID YOU GO DOC? WHAT DID YOU SEE?

(I’ve no idea why, but I’m imagining some crazy Flight of the Navigator shit.)

Alright, time to wrap up the last of the week before last noms…

DC
I’d like to nominate Strange and Greenius, Dan! and Sughly.

Freeze S. Preston Icequire
Shhhhhhaaaaaaaaaannnnnneeeee!

Books.

I laughed.

Shane
I’m here to drop a nom for @negativezero. Dude organised a Secret SanTAY off his own back, which was really cool.

Okay. Onto the next week…

A lot of noms this week. If it looks like I’m rushing through them, that’s because I’m running out of time! Argh!

This ShiggyNinty is a worldwide first. Shiggy has become the first person to officially nominate Santa Claus for Anti-Kudos.

ShiggyNinty
I GOTTA GET THESE IN BEFORE THE PESKY MAYANS FUCK SHIT UP!
KUDOS TO ALL AND MERRY CHRISTMAS AND THAT.
ANTI KUDOS TO SANTA IF HE DOESNT BRING ME LEGO.

Santa, if you’re reading, please bring ShiggyNinty LEGO. He’s been a good boy this year.

Because it’s Christmas, there have been a lot of Oprah noms. A lot. Let’s kick things of with the Queen of the Oprah noms…

Strange
I was going to do a huge Kudos email with a bunch of nominees because Christmas but realised my memory is so bad I’d forget important people so I’m going to finish off the Kudos year with just one nominee: Tigerion.

Always ready to help people out, always ready with sound advice, always ready with the perfect quip for any situation and always making me wish for an Upvote Button before we even had one. This smart, kind and mega-funny guy is Commentor Of The Year as far as I’m concerned.

Oh, what the hell, it’s Christmas…YOU get a nom! THEY get a nom! Look under your seats because EVERYONE gets a nom! Merry Christmas everyone, it’s been quite the incredible year around here. *hugasaurus*

The we had Oprah noms from cool-bro Mawt.

Since it’s probably the last Kudos before Christmas – maybe ever – I think it’s only fair that I Oprah nom everyone.

I was a long time reader and lurker, and only posted in TAY for the first time earlier this year and I was welcomed instantly and made to feel that I’ve always been a part of this fantastic group of people. So everyone deserves a nom!

More noms for Shane. Jesus. He can’t win every week can he?

Freeze S. Preston Icequire
In additional to the Shane noms one for whoever the secret SanTAY who sent me the Turtles mug and the Mameshiba plush that lead me to the batshit insane clips they feature in.

Also one for GerminalConsequence. S/He rarely seems to agree with me but is never a dick about it which is even rarer for the Internet.

D.C.
I’d like to nominate Shane. We were talking about the GOG sale and he totally gifted me five games. (FIVE GAMES!) Adventure games too, which makes it even better. The guy’s all kinds of awesome. Thanks man, so damn kind! I’d also like to nominate Greenius for gifting the Humble Bundle! Meant a lot.

I’d also like to nominate Freeze. He’s a decent, awesome person. (Sughly too! And Strange!) Beardy/Hellscream (Not sure what he’s going as any more) for organizing The Hobbit meat next week!

And talking of D.C. — this was a cool nom by Doc What. Who strangely returned from Flu’s housewarming ten years younger for some reason.

Doc What
I nominate @DC because @DC is a pretty cool guy. Also @DC had the post meat blues so @DC deserves to win Kudos for doing @DC’s best to be less hermit @DC and more social butterfly @DC.

Also, special exmas noms to everyone who wrote something for Potaku this year. Thanks so much and hopefully you all keep contributing and coming on the podcast!

Okay, more nominations. I have no way to link these into the nom narrative, so I’ve just going to randomly drop them in.

Greenius
#35 for just gifting me Rayman Origins while I was annoyed (for unrelated reasons). Cheered me right up! 😀

Tigerion
I wish to nom Beavwa and Pipster of opening their house to us. Beavwa for accepting the daunting task of cooking a meal to very strict dietary requirements and producing something that was far from stodgy. Also a big thanks for throwing open their bookshelves when I saw something that caught my interest.

AlexPants
Adding on to the two noms from last week, I want to nominate Doc and DAN! They asked me to write a script for them, which was a lot of fun in itself, but they showed a lot of encouragement and support as I’ve been working on it and it’s just made me feel really damn good about myself lately. So I’m very thankful for the opportunity.

BeardyMcMuttonchops
ShiggyNinty for multitudes of reasons.

The entire rest of the Kotaku community for being the best online community on the internet. And double kudos to everyone who has a beard.

I hope you all have a very merry beardsmas, and a beardy new beard.

Just so you all know — I have a mini beard going on. It’s too long to be stubble, too short to be a real beard. It looks cool.

There were, no exaggeration, a metric butt-tonne of noms for Scree.

Greenius
Scree for organising the Melbourne meat last week.

Happy Holidays everyone!

(D.C. can have a nom too)

Virus__
I’d like to throw some noms at Scree for organsing a Melbourne meat for when I was down that way last week it was awesome and all that Jazz!

Also i’d like to nom the other TAYbies who showed up and put up with me those being; Techie, Greenius, Faction, Zac, Loops, Beavwa, Pip, Negative Zero & Budgieishere (though he’s from the Twitters)

Chuloopa
I’d like to nom Scree for organising the Melb meats!

I had a super-swell time and everyone was brilliant!
But Scree… man dat Scree made us cupcakes. And they were AMAZING!!!
Table for chocgasm, party of one, please.
Plus she went to the extra effort of putting fondant on it, which i know, all too well, is a pain in the BUM to work with.

Considering that so many folks nommed her, it only seems fitting that the last nom of the year comes from Scree herself.

Scree
I would like to thank/nom everyone who came to the Melbourne meat on the 15th.
Virus, F4ction, Loops, Zac, Negative Zero, (antisocial) Greenius, Beavwa, PrincessPip, Tech Knight and Budgieishere. (I thought, hey, there’s someone missing and then I realised it was me. Oops)

I would also like to nom everyone who wished me a happy birthday yesterday, Thanks guys X3 Extra nom to F4ction for coming to my house and taking my Mum and I to lunch. He also paid, which floored me (And Mum).

A nom to Tigs for giving me Dungeon defenders for my birthday \o/

One last one, it’s not really a nom but, I wish every member of Kotaku a very merry christmas, whether you are an editor, taybie or a casual commenter. \o/

So there you have it! Congratulations to Scree and CrazyGuy. Double week. Double noms. Double winner!

May you all have a very merry Christmas! Stay awesome!
