Austin Wintory’s soaring orchestral score for Thatgamecompany’s Journey will not be forgotten anytime soon. Not only was it a fine collection of music in its own right, it is the first video game soundtrack to be nominated for a Grammy.
But, of course, Wintory’s career hasn’t culminated with Journey. Like any professional, he’s moved on to score other games and films, including Phosphor Games’ very good Horn. As it turns out, he’s also making music for the new Leisure Suit Larry remake.
You may be thinking: That does not compute! Why would the guy responsible for the most emotionally cathartic video game scores of 2012 be making bowp-chicka-wah-wah sex music for a Leisure Suit Larry remake? Well, hey: People are professionals, and pros can do whatever they like.
The news comes from an interview with Polygon, where Wintory humorously points out that he’s “written sexy” before:
Wintory says he’s written “sexy music” before – “not for games, but for films” – and that Lowe and Replay Games made sure he was comfortable writing “seedy, back alley kind of stuff” before extending the offer to score Larry Laffer’s modern-day remake.
One things seems likely: The new Leisure Suit Larry is probably going to have some soaring, gorgeously scored sex scenes.
