Watch: New Star Trek Trailer Kicks Some Serious Galactic Ass

J.J. Abrams has released the trailer for the next Star Trek movie: Star Trek Into Darkness. Just watch it, because it’s awesome. Seriously. I mean, I’m sold just on the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch — of Sherlock fame — plays the bad guy. That’s enough for me, but this teaser makes me want it all now!

It seems the movie is really going to be dark. Like Batman: The Dark Knight Rises kind of dark, but without the pointy ears and without all that latex and a lot more lens flares.

  • Wow…I guess to appeal to the mass market Sci-Fi these days you’ve got to have Michaelbaysplosions, drama and teh evulz darkness. 🙁

    • Well…yeah. By definition. “Mass market’ and ‘Sci Fi’ have never been comfortable bedfellows without some eye candy and a bad guy. And drama’s important in any genre.

  • Awesome? Really? Look, dont get me wrong, the movie itself could be fantastic (and all signs point to that), but there wasnt much in that trailer to really excite me. People running, explosions, screaming, fisticuffs. Looked pretty generic.

  • TOS was enjoyable, and movies 2, 4 and 6 were great both as Trek and as movies in general. But as a life long Trek fan, TNG and DS9 were the high points of the franchise. Voyager and Enterprise were good too, if a bit flawed. I enjoyed the reboot movie despite the Beasty Boys car chase scene, so ill check this out too.

  • Holy crap! I think I briefly saw the letters NC on a piece of metal coming out of the ocean.

For Star Trek, that trailer had far less stars and trekking than you’d think… The only reason I knew it was Star Trek was briefly, there was a starfleet uniform.

  • looking less and less star trekky… still looks awesome… but it could be called just about anything else to be honest… too much “omg earth gettin blown da fudge up” not enough spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace…

  • Glad to see I’m not the only one underwhelmed by the trailer. I have confidence the movie will be good, but what was in this trailer to be really excited about? All I saw were lot of explosions without context. When you throw around explosions like Michael Bay, they sort of lose their impact.

It didn’t feel very Star Trek at all. Felt more like a generic action movie trailer, just with a more futuristic set than normal.
