Community Kudos

It’s Friday afternoon, which means it’s time for me to hand out Community Kudos, as well as hanging up the Kotaku Guest Editor’s hat. I haven’t chewed too many holes in it… I think.

For a little while there I was concerned that I wouldn’t end up with any Community Kudos noms, although I had a backup plan, which involved giving this week’s Kudos to the late Jim Henson. Partly because he was JIM HENSON, and partly because it’s the thirtieth anniversary of Fraggle Rock. I do like Fraggle Rock.

But then, in a torrent of community support, the noms started coming in. First off the nominations rank was the oft-nominated @Shane

@Shane: @blaghman gifted me enough Amazon dollars to purchase The Walking Dead game for my 360 console. After sneakily asking me how I intended to go about obtaining it. For sheer deviousness I nominate him. Also the aforementioned gift of money.

Hmm. I made @blaghman cry during the week. Perhaps I should feel bad about that, but then he did suggest that I murder people in their sleep, which is just silly talk.

I have people for that kind of thing.

Next up on the nom platform was @Greenius, who treated noms like a Pringles can — he just can’t stop!

Greenius:
First one goes to YOU – ALEX KIDMAN for doing an excellent job of taking care of Kotaku AU while Mark is away.

Aww, shucks. You’ll make me blush. Blushing looks weird when (as I do) you don’t have any hair…

SmurfyDog for being a champ and showing me and Aleph around the Dandenong Ranges and doing touristy stuff.

Crazyguy1990 for being Crazybuy and buying ALL THE GIFTS for ALL THE PEOPLE. He also finally convinced me to get a drawing tablet and gave me some advice on it.

D.C. for being an all round nice guy!

Why not? noms for:

NovaCascade, Powalen, Ser Nobulus, Strange, Beavwa, NegativeZero, Andy, Ben J, Doc What, Scree, Freeze S. Preston, Distant Drop, Phlaiman, Steve-O the Deve-O, Jimu, Saturday

They know why.

Early noms for:

NegativeZero for organising the Kotaku Melbourne meat this Saturday and offering me a lift back home after it.

Tigerion and Mrs. Tigs who once again, offered their house for the Melbourne meat part. 2 this Sunday

@Greenius also suggested

Anti-kudos to

Mark Serrels as I can’t seem to beat most of his times in the Trials Evolution DLC tracks and this kind of puts him ahead of me on the leaderboards… what a jerk.

I only just got away with giving @serrels Kudos last week, and now you want to take it away? In any case, in my personal experience, beating Mark at Trials Evolution is rather like trying to sew a warming quilt using your own severed foot as the needle; impractical and painful.

Next up to offer nominations was

@tofu
Firstly, a pre-emptive strike nom for everyone who turns up for the Melbourne meat on saturday and proving that the internet is full of people and not robotic lizards like my mother is intent on believing

I’m led to believe there are also cats, screaming goats, and, somewhere, Mahir.

Secondly, I’d like to give DC a nom for a few reasons. For liking basically every comment posted in TAY … I’ve now gotten anxious if I post something and he doesn’t like it. It’s like disappointing a parent. For making me feel like an all knowing movie wizard because of the constant asking for movies to watch and just for constantly being awesome … although everyone kind of fits that last one. Bah, NOMS FOR ALL! but an extra one for DC

@Strange kept it short and sweet. Also, he may be my father.

@Strange I nominate Effluvium Boy! He is a man of few words,
but he sure does make those few words have a huge impact.

As did

@Crazyguy
I’d like to nom Greenius, Strange, Dire Wolf, Zetrox2k, Tigerion and Blagglekins.
Just because. 🙂

And last, but by no means least

@blaghman Firstly, I’d like to nominate everyone who went to the camping Meat. It was good fun. Meating the Northerners in particular was excellent.

Secondly, I’d like to nominate everyone who went on the Pants birthday Meat. That was good fun. Mostly because I like alcohol.

In the realm of alcohol, I’ll give a nom to #35, for being a rad dude, and giving me beer, and Pez, for letting me crash at his place while I drank alcohol.

Additionally, I would like to nominate Cakesmith, for giving me the Darksiders pack, Cracklelacklekins(The Cracks) for giving me Mount & Blade Warband, Gorzilla for Carrier Command, and I guess Bunny(Trjn) for Ticket to Ride.

I guess. But only begrudgingly.

I’d also like to call out AlexPants, for being a particularly cool dude, so he gets a… better nom? A nom lvl. 2?

Something like that. I don’t really know.

This is my last post as your Kotaku Guest Editor; from Monday you’ll be in the gentle caring hands of Jeremy “Junglist” Ray.

So this is my last chance to use the awesome power that comes with being Kotaku editor for now. But you know what? The awesome power really only exists because the Kotaku community exists and is so particularly strong, so I’ve got to give it to somebody particularly strongly community minded. So on that basis, this week’s Kudos prize (which I’ll nag Mark to send out, but you know, backlog and all that, plus he’ll be new-father-sleep-deprived or life just isn’t fair) goes to…

@Blaghman!

Also, while you wait for your prize, I totally promise not to murder you in your sleep.

Community Kudos is your chance to reward Kotaku readers/posters who have done incredible things throughout the past week: sporadic acts of kindness, deft commenting skills — if someone deserves to be called out for being an incredible human being, Community Kudos is the place to do it. Although for next week, I have no idea how Junglist wants to receive entries, so for now, perhaps send nominations directly to Mark at this address! The winner gets a cool prize from his massive box of stuff.*

Mark’s Disclaimer — I’m am really bad at sending stuff out, I have a list, I haven’t forgotten, I’m totally getting round to it. Sorry everyone!
