jesus, i am never going to invite you anywhere because then you’ll arrive 50 years late and be all “guys hello i am fashionably late” and then since we’ll all be 70 or 80 something we’ll have alzheimer’s and be all “who the heck are you gosh dangit”
-
Apparently it’s already setting in because I said “beyond fashionably”. Get it together Bish.
-
Except you’re already over a hundred…
Frozen was incredible. Loved it.
Reindeers are better than people.
-
That’s not such an achievement, being kicked in the face is better than most people
Ooh, finally a new TAY! Alex is the best at taking care of us while Mark’s away.
Today is my daughter’s 13th birthday.
Yup, I’m now the mother of a teenage girl. Anyway, going to take her and her best friend on a surprise shopping spree today. Pray for me. 😛
-
Oh man, shopping spree? That sounds nightmarish! Haha! Hope you have a great day and hope your daughter does too.
-
It’s the thirteen year old thing to do. 😛
And thanks!
-
Should take her to see Frozen. FROOOOOZEN.
(According to my time travelling you took her to see Wreck It Ralph last year, so it could be a Disney tradition! :D)
-
Thirteen year olds think animated movies are beneath them.
I also do not have any desire at all to see Frozen….
-
Haha! Thirteen year olds do think animated movies are beneath them. Mulan came out when I was thirteen and I only saw it for the first time this year because high school age D.C. couldn’t be seen at a Disney movie. 😛
-
…
It’s a shame too, cause that movie would’ve made a man out of me. :'(
High school would’ve been so different. 😛
-
Isn’t that great how that works?
Pre-teen you’re all “WOOOO DISNEY”
Then during your douchey years you’re all “Please, I’m too mature for animated films.”
Then once you’re 20-something you’re all “WOOOOOOOOO DISNEY” -
Stoopid 13 year olds
-
I saw Finding Nemo release weekend at age 16 with a group of friends, half of whom were hungover.
It was the 6 or 7 of us and an ENTIRE CINEMA of mums & bubs.
-
-
-
So… if you’re the mother of a teenage girl, that means some unfortunate gentleman is now the father of a teenage girl. Has he taken up residence in a rocking chair on the front porch with a shotgun resting across his lap yet?
-
That’s pretty much my plan, although I’ve got a few years to whittle an entire tree down into its rocking chair form. That’s how it’s done… right?
-
Yeah, but you can’t use just any tree. You’re supposed to plant the tree on the day of your daughter’s birth, let it grow as she grows, then chop it down and start a-whittlin’. If you didn’t plant your tree at the appropriate time then I’m afraid I can’t help you.
-
Implying that Chris is not?
-
…Maybe. 😛
Happy B’day to her! (almost wrote her name, but figured I shouldn’t in case you didn’t want it out there 😉
I’ve, uh, been playing Love Plus.
…..
and a translated Valkyria Chronicles 3! There’s a newly completed fan made english patch out now, if you don’t know.
but I’ve mostly been playing Love Plus.
-
Imagine how well trained you’ll be if you ever get a schoolgirl as a girlfriend though!
-
Just because I’m in Canada doesn’t mean I’m obligated to fulfill any Scott Pilgrim scenarios.
-
-
I can understand why you would play Love Plus. It’s not just about love, it’s about maths as well! \o/
-
That’s two themes in one game!
-
-
Love Plus, you say? There’s only one possible response to that.
Manaka, Rinko or Nene?-
Nene, no contest. I’ve a feeling that I keep hitting up the flags for the other girls and keep missing Nene’s. :/-
This is the correct answer.
-
-
Played Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons on the weekend. Holy damn, so great. Really clever puzzles and a world that is full of charm and atmosphere. Had a definite Ico vibe too. (Atleast towards the end of the game.) Still on sale on Steam today. If you’re on the fence, let me push you off! 😀
-
I heard it was really called Brothers: A Tale where Men are Helpful and Women are Deceitful Cows.
-
*backs away slowly*
-
Oops…I forgot the :P.
Colon Pee! Why have you forsaken me? 😛
-
-
-
How long did it take you to get through it? I’ve heard good things about it but don’t really have the time to start something that’s going to soak up more than a couple of hours at the moment. Just started Persona 4 Golden over the weekend, y’see.
-
Reasonably short game. It took me a bit over four hours, but I notice everyone else on my Steam friends list finished it a lot quicker than me. (I tend to play games slow. Also had to replay a chapter after a bug.)
-
Hmm 4 hours sounds pretty reasonable. And on sale this month for $6.52 for PS+ subscribers, so can’t really complain about the price. Will probably do it.
-
Honestly probably one of my favourite games this year!
-
Bought it last night. Damn you and your persuasive ways!
-
-
-
-
It seems nice and short, Mrs Tigs and I think we are about 1/2 to 2/3 through after a couple of hours. And that was a single session over the weekend, we probably would have blasted through the whole thing in a single sitting except my hands got sore from using the controller (master race so I don’t play long sessions with a controller often)
-
Persona 4 Golden is brilliant!
-
Yeah, I’m really enjoying it so far. First couple of hours were a bit slow while it gets started, but I’ve just rescued Yukiko and things are starting to open up a bit now.
-
Yeah, the first 2 hours are basically a tutorial. Once you get past that though, so damn good!
-
-
Wanted to watch a romcom-ish anime, chose Angel Beats!
My body was not ready…
-
I love Angel Beats. Started thinking this morning that I should rewatch it.
@shane: Last ep of Treme today! D:
-
Exciting and sad! :S
Seriously, guys, my new headphones are amazing. The clarity is brilliant, the bass is thumping and it has improved my music listening experience immeasurably. So, if you want a new pair of headphones, you can’t go wrong with a pair of Yamaha HPH-200. (Not an ad, I’m just in love with my new headphones.) 😀
So four weeks today I’ll be boarding a cruise ship with awesome bands. \m/
And over the weekend one of the latest announcements was a band called Haggard. I’d never heard any of their music before but now I’m addicted. They call themselves a metal orchestra and they are made of awesome.
-
Oh man, your trip sounds awesome! How many times have you been so far?
-
This will be my third and Mr. Strange’s fourth.
@mythamphetamine was supposed to go as well this time but he bailed on us. He’s gonna regret it. Doofus. 😛
-
Oh man, what a doofus! Maybe the metal bands scared him. They’re pretty scary.
-
No, no they’re not. Doofus.:P
Besides, Aleph listens to bands that are way “scarier” than what I listen to.
-
-
-
-
Bavaria \o/
Their Sopranos are amazing, Herr Mannelig really shows them off and is amazing.
Really long songs as well, still deciding if that’s a good or bad thing. Some of the doom metal gets a bit much for me but I’ll see how I go with some more -
I think a friend of mine’s sister is going on that cruise.
I’d suggest saying hello except she’s annoying.
-
We gotta go on the Barge To Hell next time instead!
Or Waken. Let’s do Waken.Have fun Strange, it’ll be a blast!
-
I’m never going on the Barge To Hell. Eww. You really missed out this year though, it’s the most Barge-like line-up ever.

Den of Geek’s Top 10 Films of 2013
10. Frozen
9. Place Beyond The Pines
8. Stoker
7. The Way Way Back
6. Pacific Rim
5. Iron Man 3
4. Before Midnight
3. Hunger Games: Catching Fire
2. The World’s End
1. Gravity
I’ve seen 4 of those. Stoker, Pacific Rim, Iron Man 3 and Gravity. Got some work to do.
-
I’ve seen Frozen, Pines, Hunger Games, Gravity and Pacific Rim. Really wanted to see Way, Way Back.
Freeze, trust me. You got daughters and have a reasonable excuse: GO SEE FROZEN! 😀
-
Next Monday.
-
-
I’ve seen one. But hey, at least it was the number one one.
-
Wow, I’ve only seen 1 of them. Geek cred crumbling
-
Up until the last 2 weeks I’d only seen 3 of them.
Now I’ve seen 5.
Frozen, Pacific Rim, Iron Man 3, Catching Fire, The World’s End.
-
Gravity, Hunger Games, Iron Man 3 and Pacific Rim for me. It saddens me to admit that I haven’t seen The World’s End yet.
-
I’ve seen Gravity, Pacific Rim and Iron Man 3. Can’t believe I missed The World’s End and Before Midnight (although I think that one was in cinemas for all of about 3 days).
Some absolutely stellar stuff coming out in the next few weeks including new Coen Brothers (Inside Llewyn Davis), Spike Jonze (Her) and Martin Scorsese (The Wolf Of Wall Street). Can’t wait.
-
Can’t wait to see Her. Looks amazing. Also looking forward to Saving Mr. Banks.
-
Keen for THe Wolf of Wall Street but I have a bit of a weakness for Leo. The man can act and is fantastic in anything he does.
-
The Academy thinks differently.
-
The Academy also never got around to giving Scorsese a best director Oscar until The Departed – apparently Dances With Wolves was a better movie than Goodfellas. Heads up their arses, man. Heads up their arses.
-
-
So good in The Aviator!
-
-
Coens!
-
The World’s End is really good, probably better than Shaun of the Dead, bit I’ll have to watch them side by side to be sure.
The ending is really bad, though.
-
-
I had no idea what I was watching but then I heard Arnie’s voice and all of a sudden the rest of the trailer didn’t even matter.
-
Looks like it could be good, but the editing was really weird. Fade to Grayscale!
I’ve been playing AssCreed Pirates … ALOT of it actually. Really loving the game, I can see why some people have voted for it for GOTY. It’s hard to point out a major fault (haven’t really encounted any bugs since the first couple of missions) probably my biggest gripe is the controls but that’s probably just me being ‘special’. I’ve kinda ignored doing story things and am just derping around blowing up all the ships! I love games that let you derp around! \o/
-
I’m seriously considering going for 100% – save file says I’m at 95? So much fun. And I couldn’t bring myself to finish AC3 before Black Flag came out. 3 was not very good. 4 is awesome. Ranty rant rant.
-
You should consider getting ac liberation if you’ve never played it, it was pretty damned good I thought
-
Breaking Bad season 2 binging begins now, whole box set as a treat to myself
Assetto Corsa is 25% off…
I don’t know if it’ll be on the Second Chance Sale… :\
nnnnggghh
-
If I had to guess I would go with it not being on second chance. Niche game that is still in early access, I don’t think so.
Bleh, this is such a bad time to pick up a mystery virus. Starting the new year while sick must be some sort of omen of dire things to come. D:
-
Hope you get well soon, mate!
🙂-
Thanks man. 🙂
-
-
Aw man, hope you feel better! Also, you should attend some meats in 2014! 😀
-
Thanks DC. I shall attend many meats in 2014. 😀
-
-
Or, getting all the bad stuff out of the way to make the rest of 2014 clear! \o/
-
That’s one way to look at it. Thanks Nob. 🙂
-
MultiTAYer Monday takes place in a galaxy far, far away!
That’s right, tonight is Star Wars Battlefront 2!
Starts at 8:30pm (VIC, TAS, NSW); 8pm (SA); 7:30pm (QLD); 7pm (NT); 5:30pm (WA).
See you then, the more the merrier!
Hot chips for lunch me thinks, can’t believe tomorrow is new years eve
-
Looking forward to your date with Sam?
Wait, that was last year. *moseys off*
-
It was an amazing date and it has been an amazing year, I love that woman so much, how is my brother DC
-
I ain’t heavy!
-
But we sure as fuck are kindred spirits nrother
-
-
-
I have decided I’m preordering a PS4 on Thursday. I’ve sold a few more of my games as Christmas presents, so I’ll use the money from them as the deposit. I’m looking forward to getting one even if I have to wait a while.
-
Sounds like you’re @ontargett!
-
That was terrible … *Upvotes*
-
It always is…
Oh, you meant the pun.
Well, yeah.
That’s terrible, too.
-
-
-
Awesome! Don’t worry ’bout the wait too, the longer you wait the closer Infamous: Second Son and Watchdogs gets. 😀
-
Watchdogs sounds awesome. The only console I’ve ever gotten at launch was my PSP, so I have no problems waiting.
-
That’s assuming watchdogs comes out THIS TIME.
I still can’t believe I prepurchased it and less than 10 minutes later I read it’s delayed…
-
-
Honestly, waiting is probably better. It’s nice to have one but I can’t really see myself playing much on it until Infamous hits.
Holidays have made me dazed and confused, I completely forgot that there would be a new TAY today.
Bravely Default is a pretty cool guy.
-
You are! >:|
-
D:
Really enjoying ZombiU again, too! On the final ‘mission’, hoping to finish it today.
-
Such a good atmosphere. Too bad there’s no sequel.
-
-
-
Only 4 or so hours in. Been leaving it on sleep mode for the last few days building stuff in Norende while playing AC4 haha.
Ringabel is quite amusing.
Interested in going and seeing the hobbit 2 today. Didn’t like the first one but apparently a lot of people thought it returned to a more Lotr quality movie. Thoughts? Is it worth the movie price?
-
I saw it last night and thought it was good. Tighter and less unnecessary filler. Some changes from the books but they serve to build out some characters who aren’t properly developed in the book and lessen the amount of deus ex machina. About the only thing that annoyed me was that the way they did Smaug makes him a wyvern instead of a dragon. Not enough legs. That said, he’s pretty impressive and Cumberpatch does an amazing job voicing him as well. Enjoyed it a lot.
However I also only saw the first film over the weekend and thought it was pretty good too. Though the fact I could pause it, get up and get a drink / go pee in the middle of it may have helped a lot.
-
I actually enjoyed the first one quite a bit, too. I avoided it for ages due to the pretty ordinary word of mouth, finally picked it up when it was going cheap on BluRay and watched it then. Maybe it was because my expectations had been set so low, but yeah I really liked it for the most part. A bit more padding than necessary (god only knows what they could have left out in order to be able to produce the Extended Edition), but yeah, well worth watching.
-
Yeah for me I probally set my hopes way too high as I expected a lot after Lotr. Also having read the book as a kid, growing up on the lore, adding in the white Orc felt like a clichéd attempt at gaining a Holly wood-style villain. I’m exited to see the new one though, everyone seems very positive!
-
This. The Hobbit is my most cherished book from childhood.
-
Mine too. It was the first proper novel I ever read I think, I must have gone through it dozens of times. But I don’t mind the changes they’ve made so far as they’re minor in the greater scheme of things and help tie the ancillary material from the LotR appendices into the main story, lower the sense of deus ex machina the book has (Bilbo et. al are constantly being rescued at the nick of time by things that weren’t introduced or even hinted at until that exact point) and flesh out some of the characters that really needed expansion to not be cardboard cutouts (eg Bard, Thorin)
-
-
Azog was added mainly to flesh out the secondary story with the Necromancer and everything, I think. Also so there’s a bit more purpose and tension to the story in the first film, because without him there wouldn’t be a visible enemy and associated conflict for the movie. You’re right that he felt a bit stereotypical though, but then so is the dragon, and the Smaug is an awesome villain.
-
We’ll I just returned from seeing the movie, and can happily say I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing! Without dropping any spoilers, I felt they fleshed out his character a lot more than I expected, and ending up actually not minding his constant blind rage. (He’s an Orc that’s what the do!)
But seriously Smaug had to be one of my favourite characters in a movie… I think ever. Such a perfect pick for that voice.
-
-
2nd one is much better. More focused story, less crumbling under its own lore.
Was disappointed with the unnecessary over-inclusion of Orlando Bloom (Legolas wasn’t even in the book). Started out with reasonable inclusion, but having the orcs attack Laketown was a bit much.
Also disappointed with the emphasis on action sequences with Smaug in Erebor.
Spoiler tags just in case, though if you haven’t read The Hobbit by now, shame on you.
I understand the need to change things to fit the different media, but it’s a shame to see how much they’re changing to try and attract a broader audience. Bugger that.
Other than that, really enjoyed the movie. Great score, amazing visuals, quality acting, Stephen Fry…
The actor who played Bard looks disturbingly like Orlando Bloom…
-
Spoiler:
Legolas has Orcrist now, so presumably he’ll have to be in the third film to give that back to Thorin instead of Thranduil. Also I think his inclusion is justified, as a call-back to Lord of the Rings so you can see how much his character grew through that story since he’s a bit of a dickhead in the Hobbit films, and also because it helps tie the elves of Mirkwood a bit more tightly to the story.
I’m not the only one who notices that he practically always complains about competitive gamers, right? I could put this one down to jet lag but I’d rather just tell him off.
At least when I’m repetitive about something, it’s interesting. By the way, BOARD GAMES!
-
He’s always complaining about something.
-
THANK YOU! I’ve wanted someone to tell him off for a while, just never had the guts to do it myself because i’m a whimp, and not very well articulated 😛
Went and saw this with the family yesterday. It was rad.
Then we went out for a big combined birthday dinner. We missed mum’s and my sister’s already, and dad’s just happened so with mine a couple of months ahead we figured why not just go out for one big dinner at a fancy place instead of four dinners as ok places. Ended up going to Saké in the city. OH MY GOD SO GOOD. All of it. Amazing.
-
A Wallace & Gromit musical? What does Gromit do?
-
All the leg-work.
-
Went to see the Desolation of Smaug last night. Vmax, 3D, 48 Frames and all that.
I really liked it. It wasn’t Lord of the Rings good, but it was good. Better than the last one I thought. It still felt video gamey, but the video gameyness felt better done. 48 Frames is still weird. Sometimes I saw what they were going for and it felt way more realistic. Other times it felt like I was watching a normal movie in fastforward.
A fair bit was changed from the book, but I was fine with that. I really liked the edition of Tauriel. She was pretty cool. Smaug was amazing. It’s worth going just to see him.
I have to say I’m glad they decided to split the film into three parts. Yeah, yeah, I know; money hungry and milking the franchise and all that. But I’m really happy with what we got with part two, and it’s something we wouldn’t have got if they’d tried to condense the story to just two films.
-
My only qualm with the 3 film split is
that sequences like Bombur in the barrel go for too long.-
I agree with that, though on the other hand there are some long scenes that are really good and I’m glad we got them. Nothing feels too rushed, which is nice.
-
So far I have managed to get up. have a shower, and sit around in a towel drinking an iced coffee.
I AM AN ADULT
-
I watched someone get all of the achievements in Dark Souls. It took almost nine hours. Adulthood!
-
As an adult (apparently) I disagree with you needing an adult.
So, I couldn’t think of anything to play on Steam, and I found this:
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/15/dont-know-what-to-play-add-an-im-feeling-lucky-button-to-steam/
Hey guys!
I have a question, in regards to Adventure Time on behalf of @scree (she’s not currently at a computer … or something). Scree thinking of baking Adventure Time themed cakes, so far she has Finn (Vanilla) and Jake (Chocolate). She also wants to make a Beemo cake. Question is, what flavour should Beemo be? She wants a flavour that matches Beemo’s personality.
-
Mint?
-
Which mint? Peppermint or spearmint?
-
I guess it depends how intense you want the taste. Peppermint is mintier, isn’t it?
-
-
I’ve just started Serious Sam: The First Encounter. First impressions are good. Expect a lahar (look it up) of screenshots, just like with Castlevania.
Let’s hope SS:FE doesn’t have impossible quick-time events.
-
I don’t think the Serious Sam games had *any* QTEs, but it has been a while since I played them. Fun games.
-
That was really a Castlevania: Lords of Shadow joke.
Castlevania had a QTE that required you to make a circle motion with the thumbsticks. That would be fine, except I was using a Mouse and Keyboard. The circular motion was impossible to recreate on a keyboard. I tried for 51 minutes, (I timed it) at which point I gave up on the game entirely. It’s a shame, I really enjoyed the 8 hours I played.
-
Important twitter question:
Should I commit to this beard or shave?
I’ve seriously lost perspective! Help me, TAY. You’re my only hope!
-
Commit!
-
Commit to the beard!
-
is that a serious question?
COMMIT MANG, COMMIT! -
Keep it and see how far you can go.
I’d also experiment with shaving the moustache and seeing if you like your look with or without it. It grows back fast so it’s not a big deal if you like the moustache.
I usually like having hair around my face (you know, the beard and hair) and then a clean center( no moustache, hair under the lip etc).
-
Commit.
You look like you are almost past the second itchy stage so it’s all downhill from here until it starts getting caught in zips.
And if you give up now what are the chances you will ever try again? You may never know what it is like to have a truly luxurious beard and that would be a shame. -
Commit!
How long a growth is that?
-
This’ll sound a little pathetic, but that’s a month right there. (Trimmed from time-to-time too.)
-
Heh, for me to get full respectfully beardy takes at least that.
-
-
-
The beard stays. For now. >:|
Thanks guys! 😀
-
I say commit even though it’s not really a valid question. Of course it’s commit.
Mrs Freeze in the other hand thinks you look like a crazy hermit that needs to get out of the house.
-
That’s the look I’m going for!
Hmmm! The lady perspective might be a significant departure from the guy perspective! (@strange?)
-
It may also be her way of saying you need to come down here sometime soon.
-
-
Mrs Freeze has clearly never seen Joe Wilkinson
-
-
WWTMD?
-
He’s all about the beard!
-
-
You have already committed! \o/
Nice work.-
You’re my bearding mentor! That means a lot! 😀
-
Can i be your understudy then?
I’ve been growing this ruddy thing for 6 weeks now and i still look like a chinese hairless 😛-
PICTURES!
-
-
-
-
Shave. You look good with the stubbly kind of almost beard, not the fluffy kind of beard. Summer’s too hot for a full on beard anyway, revisit the beard when the weather gets colder.
-
Haha! 100% of the guys have said to keep it, 100% of the women have said to lose it. D:
Doesn’t look good? :'(
How went the shopping spree thing? 😀
-
Spent $200. D:
Which was actually exactly what I’d budgeted for, and included lunch for three. Phew!
-
Oh wow! Sounds like a memorable birthday, though! You did good!
-
-
-
I agree, shave the beard!
And now I’ve also ruined the 100% male commitment rate 😛
-
-
Compromise, keep half of it and only ever talk to people when exactly side on, then when they look away for a second, quickly spin to the other side so they’ll be all freaked out when they turn back.
That or go for a goatee or maybe Sean Connery’s Highlander beard & moustache, I reckon you could carry that off.
Bioshock Infinite is 75% off for another six and a half hours!
@greenius @pixel_the_ferret_viking
-
81%*
It’s 99c cheaper if you get the first two games.
-
Thanks for the heads up but it’s been under $10 on places other than Steam! Not in a rush to play it though 🙂
@cakesmith i love you! 😛
Thanks man, i’ve been eyeing off Infinite for a while!
ALSO, NOT POLISH! 😛
-
Oh and thanks @crazyguy1990 for the heads up :D… but SOMEONE decided he wanted to buy it for me… THANKS MANG \o/
-
\o/
-
I know mang. Don’t know how he keeps getting Polish and Yugoslavian mixed up.
So, how about UFC 168?
I forgot it was on. 🙁
Saw the image of Silva, not for the squeamish:

ARRRRRGH! D:
-
Yeah, that was my reaction. D:
-
If I didn’t know better, I would’ve thought that ‘curve’ was photoshopped in. Poor guy.
-
-
-
Yeah, nasty break.
Something weird about my daughter liking new songs from the same artist I used to listen to when I was in high school.
I am totally digging some of Eminem’s new (old by now? I don’t know) stuff though. Berzerk and Monster in particular.
-
I freaked my daughter out in one of the shops today by singing along to that Pink song ‘Just Like A Pill” , because she likes Pink’s latest stuff and had no idea I knew any.
Anyone keen to multiplayer Civ V at some point this week?
-
I would, certainly!
-
Maybe. Still need to download it after Aleph gifted me a copy and I’ve never played it before.
Actually I might sit this one out to save myself the embarrassment and you guys the frustration until I’ve figured it out.
-
Best way to learn is with people who know how to play.
And never, ever, trust Gandhi.-
Knowing how to play pretty much comes down to
Never, ever trusting Gandhi.
-
-
Don’t worry, if you suck we’ll just nuke you…
It’s actually pretty easy to learn and we can teach you
-
Alrighty. I’ll download it tonight and count me in I guess.
-
Nukes are for weak little humies! Bring on da dakka!
And by dakka I mean lots of artillery and tanks… and bombers 🙂-
I’m playing a game atm where I’ve built… one military unit?
Had a couple gifted, but I’m trying to win through culture.
-
I find doing anything non-warlike in Civ V multi just boring personally… I was doing that last time with some of the TAYbies and all I was doing was mostly hitting “End turn” waiting for things to build/be researched. When Bunny and I were picking fights as an alliance against AI that was really fun, especially when I was basically using Hun Horse Archers and ran them across the continent and saved the day cuz his troops were struggling to push forward 🙂
-
And I definitely wasn’t abusing your good nature so that I could spend my production on something other than military units… :p
-
The art of diplomacy at work I guess xD
Wasn’t saying everyone fight everyone, that’s just my style of playing, I prefer to be a conqueror cuz I enjoy the game more if I do, using tactics on my military units.
-
-
-
Yes!
As long as it’s BNW.
-
hells yes!
-
Works with me, as long as I get to slaughter many humans 🙂
-
Hey can you put it up as an event on the Steam Group? Maybe Thurs arvo/night?
-
Will do!
I would say night. Some (ie me) are back at work this week 🙁
-
Great!
-
You got to leave work?
-
Suck it retail!
Is your job considered retail?
-
It’s what it’s classified as although retail is only a part of it. We’re selling our services more than a product.
Yes just like prostitutes.
-
-
Almost definitely.
Sounds good to me but I don’t have a lot of time. Let me know the plan once you have one
-
on the KoAu steam group- Thursday night!
HOLY SHIT THIS IS IT GUYS
DARK QUEEN BATTLE
NINE LIVES REMAINING
-
I DID IT
DROPPED FOUR LIVES TO HER
FIVE REMAINING
I DID IT
BATTLETOADS CONQUERED IN A SINGLE CONTINUE
I AM THE GREETEST
-
…y’know, now I guess I’ll have to do it without the Five Toad Code. Which I totally can, considering that only nets you an extra two lives.
-
Wasn’t battletoads the one where there was some bug that made it virtually impossible to complete it?
-
I did see mention of that the other day. Apparently the bug is in the second-last level, where you have to race this bike thing all around the walls while being chased by a thing. The bug’s only in two-player mode though, and it makes the second player unable to control his bike so the only way to get through is if he dies to death. It also mentioned that it was just in the US version though, and that all other ones are ok. Suck it, America.
-
-
Also, put Shadowrun Returns on my Tablet last night, works really well.
-
So red… have you gotten around to watching Arby n the Chief yet? (Playlist is incomplete, I know)
If @dc can get away with recommending Frozen at every turn, I will do the same with Arby n the Cheif. The world will know it’s name! Or just TAY, I guess.-
First few eps didn’t do much for me,
-
I’d ask you to stick with it, but I guess I can’t force you to watch it if you don’t like it.
I just want somebody to discuss the ending with! :sadface
-
-
Is it just me, or is Game Dev Tycoon a really boring game? I ask this, because I get maybe half an hour into a session and find myself needing to stop playing because I’ve lost interest. What does everyone else reckon?
-
From what I’ve seen, there’s not enough feedback to help you improve on your next product, all you get is an arbitrary number. What did they like, what didn’t they like, you were focusing too much on A and not enough on B, etc, I don’t think any of that was being shown.
Forgot just how damn hard and unforgiving the original Devil May Cry was.
And cringeworthy. So much cringing.
-
Blergh. This game has not aged well. Especially coming straight off DmC.
-
I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with LIGHT!
Has been a good weekend. Mostly just played games with various friends of my friend who are all seem pretty cool! Kinda different people from the kinds of guys I usually hang around with (they’re kinda boganish :P) but we seem to get along pretty well!
And omg it’s really difficult making another friend named Oliver. This isn’t working. My friend said to me “don’t you dare start a relationship with him like you did with the other Oliver” 🙁
And now we’re planning new years! We have 2 parties to try and get to, and we have our Mexican outfits! The plan is to have bottles of windex with vodka in them and cleaning cloths in our back pockets. But yeah, it’s been really nice to get away from home (both in Hobart and Launceston) and have a bit of a break from everything that gets to me or stresses me out.
-
Sounds awesome!!!…
AAAaaand the old part in my brain is yelling “TOO MUCH EFFORT”
so i will be at home sucking on a bottle of champagne alone (the missus will surely be asleep by 12) 😛 -
Oh man, I feel like such a dad saying this but, uh, Windex bottles might not be a good idea. And, uh, make sure they’re thoroughly cleaned if you follow through.
-
We have stuff to sterilyze the bottles with, but any old spray bottle would do, i guess 😛
-
Is that stuff vodka? 😛
-
-
Hooray for being the only person in my department when everything blows up \o/…
oh wait i mean /o\
Bad monday is bad!
Oh well, at least i get to go home in 3 hours… AND PLAY AWESOME VIDYA GAEMZ!
-
Aw man, hope the rest of your day goes smoothly, my pal! Want some rye? Course ya do!
-
Nothing a healthy dose of alcohol and self-loathing won’t fix XD…
My nephew’s second birthday today so at least there’ll be cake \o/
-
@popdart5: this Christmas KanColle event has been awesome for me. Ran E-3 a few more times today, picked up Mutsu and Zuikaku. Still 5 more I can get from E-3’s boss so going to stick with that for a bit more (another week to go!) and hopefully will get everyone.
I’m listening to I See Fire and it’s making me wish more musicians made songs like this instead of the normal music about love, sex and parties. I think it’s a shame that it’s not until they get commissioned to make music for films that most musicians expand outside those topics.
-
Clearly you’re listening to the wrong music then.
-
And what’s the right music?
-
Well now would be a good time to promote our very own Anonymous Pessimist
Whom recently released a new albumThat’s right, and for only $5 this wonderful album can be yours!
BUT THAT’S NOT ALL
For an additional $5 you also get his wonderful Stargazers album.
THAT’S 2 ALBUMS FOR THE PRICE OF 2,
now that’s a good deal right there!*nods*
-
Once you get out of the realms of pop you’ll find most other genres stray away from themes of “love, sex and parties’. You need to explore more genres and see what works for you. 🙂
-
The ones about demonic battles of glory and such.
-
Gwar! They at least have songs about necrophilia, bestiality and taking a shit on satan’s doormat
-
-
Playing El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron and I have no idea what the fudge is going on except that the Japanese have a very odd understanding of Christianity.
-
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!?
As the game progresses it makes things even more obtuse and nonsensical. That’s not how it’s supposed to work!
I’m collecting orbs for some reason and I have no idea where my health bar is. And I keep fighting an enemy that keeps killing me but it seems to be supposed to happen I guess?
Discussion Time:
Does anyone else have a game they really like, but the critics hate?
Mine would be Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness and Time.
Somehow, it’s probably my favourite game of all time, despite lackluster gameplay.
-
Disaster: Day of Crisis.
-
I really enjoyed the SOS: Final Escape game on the PS2 and Disaster: Day of Crisis seemed to be in a similar vein. I never owned a Wii otherwise I would have bought it. It looked really interesting.
-
-
Beyond: Two Souls!
-
Remember Me
-
Guess Deadpool since it only got average reviews.
Also, although not great, I actually enjoyed Duke Nukem Forever to an extent.
-
I would say shadow the hedgehog, but i played it when i was young, so it probably is a terrible game now, but i have great memories of it.
-
Minon: Everyday Hero
Amazing game.
-
I’d not say I REALLY liked it but I rather enjoyed Aliens Colonial Marines. Obviously not what it should have been but I had fun nonetheless.
Also what @dc & @sernobulus said.
Edit: Oh and the original Kane & Lynch, I thought that was a really good game aside from some crappy control problems. A perfect example of a solid game ruined by unethical cockweasels running its marketing
-
Ratchet: Gladiator.
Probably one of my favourite games of all time.
I’m also a big fan of the mystery dungeon series in general.
I am getting fed up with not being able to find things I want in shops. Google is not helping the matter because I used to use yahoo’s Australian search which isolated only AUS websites, but google doesn’t do it. Instead I get stuff that has stupid shipping costs
-
Google advanced search does it.
-
What are you looking for?
-
Flavoured essence
-
Just a reminder, three hours til MultiTAYer Monday!
Okay, so I’ve isolated some flavours for beemo cake. Upvote what you agree on, as I am seriously struggling.
-
Bubblegum
-
Shouldn’t you save this for a PB cake?
-
I wasn’t going to make one. I don’t think she likes PB as much as Finn, Jake and Beemo
-
-
-
Tutti-frutti
-
Marshmallow
-
Mint (like the herb)
-
I’m going to vote Mint just because I don’t think I’ve ever tried a Mint flavoured cake before 😛
-
I’m not quite sure how easy it will be to get the flavouring, unless I actually chop up mint. Not even sure if that will work
-
I’m sure you can find a recipe somewhere! I’ve heard of people making Mojito cakes, maybe you could replace the alcohol in the recipe with something else! Or make a mint cream to put inside a regular sponge cake.
I really want to eat mint cake, now haha
-
Could stripping the chocolate off a peppermint crisp & then crushing the pepperminty bit into powder work?
-
possibly
-
-
-
-
Mint!
Also, to flavour it you’re looking for Spearmint Essence, which is available lotsa places.
EDIT: Woolies has peppermint essence: http://www2.woolworthsonline.com.au/Shop/ProductDetails?stockcode=111506
-
Oh spearmint is like the herb mint?
-
yeah, but peppermint essence is probably even better (as I linked)
-
-
Choc mint. Everything’s better with chocolate.
Also, @scree, maybe a caramel mudcake for Jake?-
I don’t know, chocolate just seems right to me.
-
-
I vote that cake flavor conversations should be kept to a minimum if we can’t actually eat these cakes. Some might say this is a form of torture, scree. 😛
-
Come to Victoria and I’ll make you a cake.
-
You had your chance when I lived there! >:|
Note: I might’ve been five, but even so…
😛
-
A carrot cake!
-
-
Nah, cake Discussion is always welcome
So I put the feelers out on Twitter earlier today, but it looks as if I may be going for a holiday late February. Are any Sydney (and surrounding regions) TAYbies keen for catchups and meats aplenty during this time?
So far it looks as if I’ll be heading down on Friday the 21st, in time for KFC Club (CC @Ruffleberg @Serrels) on the 22nd, followed by imbibing precious liqueurs on the 23rd for @35’s birthday, then spending quality pantsless time with @cakesmith, followed by whatever else may make itself available.
@dkzeitgeist *may* be making a guest appearance, though this is yet to be decided. DAN!, you’ve got my number, let me know when you know what I need to know, y’know?
Much love,
Aleph.
-
@dc halp pls /o\
-
dc usually only posts the Bris names. Not sure if he has a pre-made list of NSW peeps
-
There’s no pre-made lists for any one. But you’re right. Can’t do this for any one outside of Brisbane. XD
-
-
@powalen, @35, @trjn, @freya, @harli, @shiggyninty, @cakesmith, @alexpants, @Masha2932, @batgirl, @batguy, @blaghman, @shane… uh… that’s all I got…
I really can only do this for Brisbane folks. XD
-
CHAMPIOOOON!
Thanks man, I just tried it below, didn’t see you’d done it too 😛 -
Also DC you should come to Sydney with me.
-
Haha! That ain’t going to happen! 😀
-
>:(
-
-
-
First on the list :’)
(We really should save these sort of lists on TAYNAMES or something :P)
-
First on the list…
… on the second line 🙂
-
Yours was the most effort. Had to backtrack to previous pages to get the numbers right. 😀
-
I can never get the numbers right ;P
-
Ha ha, I appreciate the effort.
-
-
Might want to add, I think I’ll be around for a week this time, I don’t have all too much leave accrued. 2 weekends at most, for those of you that are gainfully employed and/or otherwise busy during the Mon-Fri grind 😀
CC @powalen @mashaa2398 @trjn @freya (is board games still a thing?) @batgirl @spaghett @shiggy @doc_what @alexandhispants @anonymous_pessimist @I’msosorryIforgotyouclearlyyou’renotimportantorsomething
-
Ha ha, I should have not used the numbers when choosing a username.
You’ll get it right one day 🙂
-
For some reason I can remember your number but never that you’ve been knighted on twitter
-
-
😀 SPAGHETT GETS A MENTION
Oooh, I think I’m going to be in Sydney around then!
While in transit at the airport. :p
Wonderful 101 is Wonderful 10-fun! (nintendo pls hire me as PR guy).
just beat operation 03
DID I JUST RIDE A MISSILE INTO A GIANT MECHA DRAGON, THEN PROCCEED TO RUN UP ITS BODY AND HAMMER A POD THROUGH ITS HEAD?!!!!!!!!!! GOD DAMN THIS GAME RULES.
Oh, man.
Nothing beats Jameson and Blood Orange over ice through a straw.
In a big glass.
😀
Quick festive note – a belated Merry Christmas everyone! Have a great NYE whatever you may be doing. My wife and I just finished a stint in Holland and now we’re in Scotland enjoying some very dark days and wet, cold and rainy weather! Fun. Lol. Missing my Playstation…only 2 more weeks buddy!
-
Oh wow, sounds like you guys are on an awesome adventure! 😀
-
Hi Strange! It’s been ages. Hope you’re doing well?
Yes, another adventure for us two. We don’t seem to stop. We’re now seeing/staying with my wife’s family. NYE is big over here. Off to a castle up in the highlands to celebrate in kilts for a couple of days!
-
Argh, so jealous, but happy for you at the same time!
-
Awesome. Sporrans are great, they give you a better understanding of handbags. Although the best thing about them is you can ask your wife is she wants to pat your wee beasty
-
Thanks for the laugh Tigerion! Hehe.
Have a good one gang!
-
-
-
Less than forty minutes til MultiTAYer Monday.
Star Wars BF2 is nearly ready…
I think I should’ve had more Blood Orange and less Jameson… 🙁
Serious Sam!
These sh*ts are the spawn of Hell
This game is a total dick. Every time you get a health or armour pickup, enemies spawn behind you. I was staring at this one health pickup for ages, trying to gauge whether the health pack would be more trouble than it was worth.
The game can be quite pretty at times
Did I mention that this game is a dick?
I encountered a +1 health pickup that spawned one of the hardest enemies in the game. Croteam and Devolver Digital are not very nice people.
@DC
Treme! \o/
Awesome finale.
Misted up a bit at the Annie/Sonny scene. And also with the Hidalgo/Jeanette scene.
This is just a brief post. More thoughts later.
-
So, so good. Perfect, elegant way to end the series.
Davis and whole last montage perfectly summed up the show. I like the fact that there were no huge grand gestures and the like too. Annie didn’t rip up her contract and return dramatically to New Orleans, it stayed grounded in realism. The cop didn’t turn around and surprise Toni, he stayed with his sons. This was another day for our characters who’ll continue to live even if we’re not watching.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is go!
Password: MultiTAY
If there are no takers after 9:30pm, then MultiTAYer will be cancelled due to lack of interest.
Today has been a manly day of manliness. First I killed Battletoads, then I killed two hard climbs that I haven’t been able to nail for the past couple of weeks, and got through the rest of them much faster than usual. Should probably continue the theme with a head and face shaving. Then maybe find a dragon to kill or something.
-
Manliness is keeping the facial hair! XD
It has been a day for manliness. Successfully moved up to the next weight level at the gym today too.
-
It’s manly when it’s done using a completely exposed blade that could remove your entire face with one wrong movement 😛
-
MultiTAYer has been cancelled due to lack of interest.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will be pushed back to next Monday, same time.
-
Sorry to hear (read?) it. I guess too few people had the game. Maybe you’ll have better luck next week.
-
I set the time, I named the game, I waited an hour, and no one showed.
Steam showed no fewer than seven other people having the game on my friends list.
What else can I do? :\-
The time works for me but not the day. If you want to do a SW:BF2 Thursday I’ll get it install and ready to go. But Monday night is trivia night
-
I reckon Thursday might work.
We’ll try Thursday. -
Civ is happening Thurs.
-
-
-
Official: El Shaddai is garbage. Possibly the worst game I’ve played this year.
-
Awww 🙁 I was interested in that, mostly based on how the 2d levels looked though.
HONEYDEW!
My second favourite kind of melon.
-
…maybe third
>_>
-
HONEYDEW!
My second favourite Muppet …
-
Rockmelon better be your favourite or I’ll… I’ll…
Disagree with you.
-
Nothing beats watermelon!
Rockmelon is great when you get a good one, but they don’t come around that often. Usually end up with the more bland tasting ones.
-
Knife beats watermelon!
-
Stonecutter beats knife!
-
Homer beats Stonecutter!
-
No Homers Club beats Homer… with a club.
-
-
-
Well if we’re doing a ‘top 3’, I thought the favourite would be the colloquial ‘melons’. Followed by watermelon, then rockmelon, then I don’t know, I guess there are other melons out there, but they’re probably foreign and weird and don’t count.
Attention:
MultiTAY will be moved to Thursday at 8:30pm (VIC, TAS, NSW); 8pm (SA); 7:30pm (QLD); 7pm (NT); 5:30pm (WA).
We will still be playing Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
See you all Thursday night!
-
Check the steam group- that’s where we scheduled Civ V
Okay, goodnight folks.
So I just finished a Song of Ice and Fire Book 1: A Game of Thrones. It was damn good. I had already watched the first season of the show, but there were a few plot points I missed from the show.
-I had no idea that Robb Stark wanted to secede from the throne
-I forgot that the Starks were totally kicking the Lannisters’ asses
-I had no idea that Yoren was the guy that shielded Arya
-I didn’t know that Tyrion was to be the sorta King’s Hand kind of.
-Lord Commander Mormont declared war on the far-north? When did that happen?
-When did Renly become a major threat?
-So Varys is actually a super good guy?
Wasn’t Theon Greyjoy an arsehole in the show? Why is he so likeable?
I was considering doing a rotation of watching the show, then reading the books so I don’t get mad when my favourite scenes/characters get cut. And then I checked the prices on iTunes. Jeezus. It’s like $50 per season.
I am also tossing between reading A Clash of Kings, or reading Dead Space Martyr, since I want to know the Dead Space backstory. I guess I’ll try the sample they let you try tomorrow. Maybe It’ll be worth my time.
-
Theon is an arsehole, but he’s pitiable in his way. Wait till you meet his family and you will see why.-
There are few characters in the books who aren’t arseholes in some way. Some do have redeemable qualities though. I personally can’t wait for Littlefinger to feel the end of a pointy metal stick…
-
-
I should tag @greenius since he was reading the books too. More discussion on TAY 🙂
-
Discussions scare me!
-
So, yeah. I got 100% synchronisation in Black Flag.
pic.twitter.com/3ZPngkcTgu
Also played the Aveline missions (PS exclusive) – they were alright, but the ‘story’ felt pretty disconnected and bare-bones.
Anyway, I have Freedom Cry to do now
-
Ah. Just remembered that the URL above goes to my protected twitter account, and might not be visible.
It’s just a screenshot of the progress tracker in AC4.
I’ve been awake since 3am. Jet lag is slightly improving.
Well, since I’ve been informed that Civ V is happening on Thursday, MultiTAYer will happen Wednesday night at the usual time.
-
I should be good for that
AWWWW YEAH!
First one awake means I get the washing machine first
Ahh, being adult and getting excited for the simple thing 🙂
So is it worth buying Day Z Standalone? It looks equal parts fun and annoying from the videos I’ve seen
-
Yesterday I was playing the game and found a black pen in-game.
If that doesn’t make you want to get it, nothing will.-
A black pen you say? I’m not going to lie, I’m more tempted than ever
Are there many AU servers or do we have to deal with a half second ping while surrounded by americans on a good day?
-
Guild Wars 2 fully updated, will be going back to it tonight I think 🙂
Thoruk Steelclaw, Charr Engineer will begin his journey again tonight! Mainly cuz I just want to start fresh.
Yay! I woke up at a quarter past 7, and went back to sleep until 9. Gee that feels nice.
Just picked up the Kerbal Space Program on Steam
Anyone tried it?
-
Yeah, I tried the demo.
It’s difficult and unusual.
Not my cup of coffee.
On the way to work this morning I noticed there’s a frozen yoghurt place opening up about 3 doors down from my office.
That’s good.
-
You sure it’s not cursed?
-
But you get your choice of toppings.
-
Do the toppings contain potassium benzoate?
-
Yes.
*blank stare*
That’s bad.
-
Can I go now?
-
-
-
Last song played game by yours truly, the one, the only, SPAGHETT!
Bad Guy by Eminem (my brother keeps clearing my winamp list to play hot chip, then I am too lazy to reload every song back into winamp :/)
-
Princess of the Night – Saxon.
Cool song. Thanks Spotify Radio.
-
Something by Bastille.
When we were in Stockholm, we ended up in a cafe for lunch that had a dude from Brisbane behind the counter. The music playing in the background was a cover of Say My Name by Cyril Hahn, followed by a cover of No Scrubs by Bastille and then a cover of Get Lucky by Daughter.
It was bizarre enough for me to get the guy to write it down and I was looking that stuff up on Spotify before I got bored and loaded up a video of someone playing a glitched version of Super Mario 3.
-
Sex, Drogen Und Industri – Combichrist
Playing through DmC got me back into him.
-
You make me feel like a whore
Hmmm not sure on the last song I listened to :p -
Damaged – Fear Factory
-
Spaghett!
Kokubo Sosho Stealth- Amon Tobin
-
Red!!
-
How’s life man?
-
Man life is good and you?
-
-
-
-
Enchantment – Paradise Lost
-
Let it go – Frozen soundtrack
Aka the best 3 minutes of an already amazing movie
-
First Time in Forever was my favourite song. Loved the duet part of it in particular.
Also, Reindeers Are Better Than People. XD
-
-
Hall & Oates’ song ‘Out of Touch’, as performed by Paul Dempsey and Emily Lubitz on Rockwiz.
-
Don’t Fuck with Kerser – Kerser
So Beemo cake will either be mint or marshmellow.
Or both.
-
Both!
-
Man, it’ll be expensive. D=
-
I will volunteer to assist in funding this, IF… you spare some for me 🙂
-
Maybe I should make the cakes for taybies as well
-
-
-
-
That would be Mintmallow wouldn’t it?
-
Or marshmint?
-
Nah that sounds like potion crafting ingredients you have to collect as a level 1 character in an RPG, you have to collect 10 of them and you get attacked by a giant mosquito or something
-
I thought it sounded more like an exclamation one would hear after someone injured themselves.
-
-
-
*circles the wagons, NYE-style*
-
I had New Years plans which fell apart which you’re partly to blame for *shakes fist*
-
I tagged people! Some might call me a hero of our times! 😀
-
@sernobulus was the only one to say yes so he gets that title.
-
It’s probably why noone went. Everyone was all, ewww @sernobulus is going? He looks funny. No Thanks!
=P -
I wasn’t even invited so…
-
-
-
So the New Years thing is not happening anymore?
-
I’m fairly sure that the calendar aspects of the New Years thing is probably still happening.
-
Nah, @dc ruined it. We will be stuck in 2013 forever!
-
But Dark Souls 2 comes out in 2014!!!
-
Not on my watch!
-
I think @shane might just come kill you in your sleep for this foul deed.
-
It’ll be good to see him again in person! Hopefully he’ll say hi before the killing commences!
-
-
-
Surely your wagons can circle themselves by now
@dc
New Behind the Scenes Picture of Andy Serkis from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
That costume is NOT convincing at all.
EDIT: Got a @dc upvote on a post with a horrible, horrible joke. Success.
-
Monkeys and humans aren’t so different after all!
-
Apes, not monkeys.
Though rise of the planet of the Colobus monkeys would be terrifying
-
I hate every ape I see from chimpan-a to chimpan-z!
-
Racist.
-

The last 2 days of Steam sales have proven just how broken regional pricing is.
Examples:

AU
Standalone – 66%, $23.79
Franchise Pack – 66%, $18.69
US
Standalone – 66%, $13.59
Franchise Pack – 66$, $18.69
==============
Bioshock was also similar. The “Triple Pack” was $0.99 cheaper than buying Bioshock Infinite on its own.
-
Bioshock Infinite is just whacky.
If you look it up on Steam in the client, it’s $39.99 (or $25 for the triple pack). If you look it up on the Steam website, it’s $25 (reduced from $99.99) in the search results.
Yesterday, it was $12.99 or $12 in the triple pack in client.
I think some people may have been in the middle of their office Christmas parties while trying to set this up.
-
Well if people stopped paying for things that had loading then they would have to do something about it
But what you are telling me is that the franchise pack of metro has no loading. But the actual game does. So I would be paying more than I need to, but not more than somebody overseas for the same thing.
Gah, principles need to align to see if I buy that -
The level of variation makes me wonder if publishers have direct access to the prices of their stuff rather than having to submit change requests through valve. It’s been happening so often in the last 2 sales and it’s so chaotic that it feels like the actions of many sets of hands rather than just one
-
I assume the ones where the price is at parity is a case of the US publishers saying “make it cost $X” and the Aussie publishers just are not paying attention. Sometimes they do pay attention and it gets corrected to a much sillier price. In other cases, they say to do X% off, which is where the Australia tax still applies.
-
Or in this case fairly blatant price manipulation where the base price is altered at whim
-
That seems to be how the Aussie publishers “fix” the low price. Bioshock Infinite is currently $99.99 on Steam before discounts.
-
If its the Australian branch of the publishers, they should be bound by the ACCC regs
-
-
-
I’ve been listening to the Frozen OST for two days. BECAUSE I’M A MAN!
-
I want to see that, but am too much of a wimp to go by myself!
-
@dc will see it again.
And it’s really good.
-
Haha! There was only one kid in the session I went to. The rest of the audience were Disney loving adults. Probably helped that it was the 9pm session. XD
-
I’m going to see it tonight.
It’s not in 3D. 🙁
-
-
As a fan of Idina Menzel, I salute your choice. If I wasn’t on my phone, I would go listen to the Wicked Soundtrack for three days straight now.
-
I’m impressed with Kristen Bell too. Who knew she could sing?
-
Disney apparently 😛
-
-
Last day of 2013. I have absolutely no plans for tonight, unless I hear from one of my friends. Also, I haven’t got my Secret SanTAY present yet, if it doesn’t come today I’ll have to wait until next year. 🙁
Well I decided to take the plunge and buy DayZ, who else here is playing it? Should we team up?
Happy New Year. Last year I hung with TAYbies on the eve, this year I’m going to ski down a mountain drunk with a lesbian and her friends, as per Canadian tradition.
THE WOLF AMONG US
It was all right, I guess. Didn’t get the same feels for Bigby and the others as I did for The Walking Dead characters, and felt way less invested as a result. Choices didn’t really feel particularly impactful, either, but I guess the ramifications are still to come. Will probably see it through.
At least I had the best mood lighting for the gameplay’s awesome colour palette.

See I’m the opposite. Absolutely adored Wolf Among Us but I find Walking Dead to be painfully bad and struggle to play it. I know I’m in the tiny minority but everything in TWD just felt cliche and obvious to me.-
I liked TWD, but love The Wolf Amongst Us. Can’t wait for episode 2.
-
Damn right skippy. The Wolf Among Us is awesome. TWD, whilst good, not something I felt was as good as I made it out to be, I think I was just caught up in the hype tbh.

Simon’s an interesting guy, his perspective on TV as a whole. Not sure I agree with every thing he says, but I can certainly respect where that’s all coming from and his views. I, for one, hope he continues to do what he’s been doing with Treme. (The way he approaches characters, etc.)
He comes across as a bit weary, though. 🙁
-
So good. Thanks, man!
haven’t studied Japanese in over 10 years, so I’m a bit out of practice, but Ni No Kuni is Japanese for ‘charming as fuck’ isn’t it?

YOUR LIFE IS EBBING AWAY! DO SOMETHING IMPULSIVE TO TAKE YOUR MIND OFF THE FACT THAT YOUR LIFE IS ULTIMATELY MEANINGLESS!
-
Nah that’s ok, it’s time to go out now.
-
No! Suicide is not the answer!!
Oh, you mean going out and being social? I forgot that existed
-
-
Played some Bioshock Infinite last night… Was delighted that i’m able to play it on Ultra without any drops in Frame rate \o/
Looks amazing, just purely based on the style they’ve gone for…
i know i know Infinite was so totally 9 months ago, BUT I THINK IT’S DAMN AWESOME OKAY? 😛
-
Come back when you’re finished with it and we’ll talk story.
-
Will do 😛
So far i’m just loving it… same love i had for Bioshock 1…
-
-
See how you feel in the second half when it abandons all world building, exploration and atmosphere in exchange for an endless stream if shoot this guy.
-
Well that sounds kinda depressing :\
-
If you can overlook that the story remains decent. The game never really becomes horrible, more this-could-have-been-better.
-
Oh good, i tend to be able to forget about most flaws if the story is decent 😛
-
-
-
I really wish it’d been closer to Dishonoured in approach, a fair bit of combat IF you decide to do it but there’s the option to avoid or go non-lethal should you want something more than shoot shoot bang bang.
-
I went through the whole of Dishonored without engaging in any combat. Doing it right?
-
That’s how I did it, I non-lethaled the shit out of that game. Also pretty much every other game where non-lethal is an option
-
But but killing stuff is so much fun…
I always try to go non-lethal but then realise “oh, i’m in an excellent position right now to do this”[insert random act of very loud violence]
and then laugh maniacally…
for instance in Dishonored
HACKED TURRETS KILL PEOPLE MAKE FOR FUN WATCHING
i regret nothing XD -
Hehe yeah that’s why it’s handy to play games like that twice. The first time you go full challenge and non-lethal everything, the second time you wreak a bloody revenge for all the frustrations you suffered when waiting for guards to move or when you have to reload because some bastard spotted you.

Played & finished Heavy Rain on the weekend, so buying Beyond Two Souls tomorrow. If I find it half as good as Heavy Rain I will be impressed. Think I may replay Heavy Rain very shortly too, to try and get all endings.
Also; is The Last of Us as amazing as everyone makes it out to be..?
I so didn’t post that is last weeks TAY, no sir I didn’t..
-
Both Beyond: Two Souls and The Last of Us are incredible. (Atleast to me, a guy who considers Heavy Rain one of the best games of last gen.) Really glad you liked Heavy Rain!
-
I’m inclined to agree. Heavy Rain, is by far the best exclusive. I’ll be grabbing Beyond Two Souls for sure. The Last of Us sounds great, i’ll probably pick that up too, since I can get them brand new for like 50 bucks or something at EB atm.
-
I’ve not managed to be quite as grabbed by Beyond, the disjointed narrative is kind of putting me off since there’s been no framework established that says why they’re doing it like that. It just feels too much like they had lots of ideas for scenes but no satisfying way to join them together.
Does that improve over time?
-
I never had a problem with that, but there is an explanation later on. Also I liked how it contrasted story points that wouldn’t necessarily be apparent in linear order. Then again, I’m quite the fanboy when it comes to this game so you’ll get no measured and reasoned analysis from me. 😛
-
Well as long as it gets at least mildly explained so I’m not constantly wondering why they’ve arranged it this way then I’ll be okay. Non-linearity can be narratively good but it’s like a mystery, if it doesn’t pay off in the end you’re left with the story telling equivalent of blue balls.
-
-
-
-
I don’t think i’m allowed to talk about what i think of David cage games on this site any more.
-
Because emotions?
-
Not having emotions is a failure of the game designer.
-
-
-
The Last of Us has become one of my favourite games of all time, but it’s full of elements that directly appeal to me. I can’t really offer an objective opinion on it.
-
Heavy Rain is the only game where I had to take a break because I was exhausted. Sooo much controller shaking. Must go back and give it another play one of these days, see how it goes when no one dies.
Last Of Us is really good in parts and kind of annoying in others. It’s got areas where it’s a stealth game with a companion character which sounds like the recipe for disaster when the AI has a derp moment and wanders out in front of the enemy alerting them. But they just made it so only the player was detectable so you could see the companion do that exact derpy move (on thankfully rare occasions) and just walk right by the AI opponents who were completely oblivious. It’s kind of like they realised it was a challenge to pull off and just said “fuck it, let’s make it easy instead”. That said, the story is great, the gameplay is solid and the clickers are the creepiest motherfuckers in any game this year so it’s well worth getting.
-
Yeah it was pretty exhausting now you mention it. Especially since I was pretty crook over the weekend so it took it out of me haha. But it was awesome, definitely going to replay it and get the ending where no one dies, since I killed, Madison, Lauren & Norman… Oops. Though I think Lauren dies no matter what, since I know there was a trophy to have all 4 playable characters survive.
-
Lauren can survive.-
Well then..
-
-
My Norman overdosed on his blue drug, completely beyond my control since I was playing him so he resisted every time, rather ironically trying to avoid the exact outcome I achieved. One of those situations where a little is better than none I guess.
-
Tripcocaine is one helluva drug it would seem.
-
-
-
So we’re going to head up to Timezone tonight and have an earlyish dinner and watch the 9pm fireworks. If anyone didn’t have plans they could come along? @sernobulus, @dc (settle the score? Gymed up) anyone else?
-
Thanks man, but I might have a quiet night in my hermit cave… shaking my fist at fire works out the window… Hope you guys have a great time!
So…
My hotel has a PS3, and you can rent games from a kiosk in the lobby. They had NBA, Sonic Racing, Read Dead, and Uncharted 3, and I decided on Read Dead.
So I went to the lobby AND SUDDENLY, A BEAR!!! and got it, then I put in in the PS3 and started playing it, and it’s just…um…slightly boring. I was falling asleep by the end of my short playthrough (just caught the guy from the saloon that you capture with the sheriff [the first mission after the ranch scenes]).
Please tell me it gets better.
-
Are you sure you’re not dead inside? 😛
-
Says the guy choosing not to go to Timezone 😛
-
Hey, there’s no maybe about it!
-
-
-
It doesn’t really change much during the course of the game. If you’re not already enjoying it I can’t think of anything that will change that.
-
Yeah, for better or worse it’s as good as it’s going to get!
-
-
What are you finding boring exactly? The gameplay or the story? The gameplay is much the same as it goes along (though with some bigger setpieces obviously) but the story does pick up as it goes along.
-
The way it’s just gone on for half an hour with not much happening. The shooting’s good, so if there’s more of that I think I’ll be good, but if it’s just horseriding with a couple of cutscenes, then a shooting bit, then more cutscenes, I think I’ll return it to the kiosk and get something else instead.
-
Oh there’s HEAPS of shooting, it’s kind of like GTA4 in the way it builds the level of challenge slowly but soon enough you’re gunning down a dozen outlaws at once
-
-
-
I felt exactly the same, it was so hyped up by the time I had a console and got to play it, I found it rather boring and slow burning, I love Rockstar, they’ve made some of my favourite games, but RDR is not one of them sadly. I can’t even stomach going back to it. I’d trade it in, but i’d get all of 10 bucks for it.
-
AND SUDDENLY, A BEAR!!!
This guy gets it.
-
I was only mildly interested in it throughout. You’re not alone, at least.
Finding out my brother and his girlfriend won’t be here for new years = priceless 😀
So, my new TV had 15 dead pixels.. Dick Smith promptly replaced it on the spot for me today, I am now happy. Damn Sony and having an “acceptable” failure rate with their panels.
-
I’ve purchased three things from Dick Smith in the last 2 months and had to return all three because they were broken in the box. Not a good strike rate.
-
Yeah I usually avoid shopping with them if I can, last thing I bought from them was a printer, which surprisingly didn’t break or was broken, before that was probably my 2.1 computer speakers and that was 2009, they sold us a faulty set and when I asked for a replacement they said I had to pay full RRP because I apparently knew they were faulty, I certainly did not know they were faulty. Ended up with a replacement set for no extra but it took some effort with the pricks.
But hey, this TV I picked up is awesome.
-
I left dick smith with a broken wallet when the bastards charged me 20 bucks for a 2 metre 3.5mm stereo extension cable. Damn needing things on the day so I can’t buy online!
-
Jaycar, always go to Jaycar if you can. Hell even JB is cheaper]= than DSE.
-
For cables? I’ve found that JB only stocks ridiculously expensive gold-plated bullshit nowadays. Cheapest place I’ve found cables at retail recently was Bunnings.
-
Really? Weird. The one near me is cheap for some stuf. Otherwise I just buy the 6 dollar HDMI cables from Kmart, they even have insanely cheap optical audio cables which pleased me.
-
-
-
So I read the ebook sample for Dead Space: Martyr. It was reasonable. Surprisingly, it felt more like a Crichton book than a Dead Space book. I don’t know if that’s a bad thing. Some of the way B.K. Evenson worded things felt a bit weird, though.
“A few minutes later, the Colonel was back on the vidscreen, telling Tanner that Altman had already had a call from the technician- Bacon was his name. Or no, not quite that, another kind of meat: Ham. Hammond.”
What the hell was up with that!? Was that a sad attempt at comedy? Or is that how B.K. Evenson actually thinks people act like?
However, I feel too invested to just give up, I’ll probably just buy it.
Curse you Amazon and your generous demo policy!
-
Man, it’s been ages since I read a game novel. I think the last one I read was one of the early Halo novels. I’ve had a couple Elder Scrolls books sitting around for a few years, I should probably read them sometime.
-
I read the Novelization of the first resident evil game…
don’t read it… please…
-
At least you were spared the voice acting.
-
-
-
Now I need to figure out how to get these Amazon gift cards registered to my account.
-
Okay, I actually need help doing this. The annoying thing about the the Kindle is that the GUI it is overly streamlined. How do I redeem codes? How do I check storage space? How do I disable goodreads? Everything is hidden.
Let me guess, I need to do this through a web browser, right? I’ll try that.
-
Finally figured the damn thing out. You have to go to amazon.com/redeemgift. The URL was in small font on the back of the reciept, and I never noticed it.
-
Oh for the love of… I bought Dead Space, but it took the money from the credit card instead of the gift card money.
-
-
-
-
Sounds like it was trying to represent the descent into cannibalistic madness by dropping food references into the character’s internal monologue.
Also I want bacon now.
-
Hammond is one of the characters in the first Dead Space game so I think that is an intentional nod to the game.
Something odd happened in AssCreed Pirates. I was doing an assassination contract when this happened:
*Sitting on the highest point scanning the area*
Me: “Okay, there are two rifle guys and 6 guards not including my target”
Me: “If I knock out one of the rifle guys I should be able to time it so I can assassinate the other one and his surrounding guards before …”
*SUDDENLY PANTHER!*
*Assassination Complete*
Me: “…”
Me: “That works too”
-
Hope you split your profits with your new cat pal!
-
Haha that sounds very Far Cry 3, had a few outpost takedowns made dramatically easier thanks to a randomly prowling tiger or cassowary
-
I did love letting a bear loose in the camps
-
But it all started with setting a Super Mutant Behemoth loose in raider camps back in fallout 3
-
-
Alright you lot, I’m off to a NYE party.
Have a Happy New Year, even if you’re just going to circle wagons.
-
Happy New Year, Red!
-
Chat ya next year mate! Have a good one!
Frozen was fantastic.
Also, I may get more than a little tipsy tonight.
Happy New BeerYear, everyone!
Also, as a new year’s gift, can we add a strikethrough button?
@benwhite
-
Frozen! WOOOOO!
-
I kind of want to see it, but there will be children in the theatre
-
Go to a late session! I went to the 9pm! Hardly any kids!
-
I was thinking this, but it’s hard when you don’t have a car
-
Catapult?
-
Astral projection!
-
What, farting?
-
-
-
You just have to try and block them out.
Worked for me. \o/
-
Doesn’t work if they squeal
-
O_O
-
These movies are made for families though, seeing kids react to some of the shenanigans can be funny! 😀
Children are the worst thing about seeing children’s movies.
That Ben is really slack, I hope he let @benwhite know about the request
Remember that time where stuff happened…
good times, good times
*sits back down*

LIES!

YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

A mate of mine who works at Blizzard just passed along this awesome link to some art dumps! Well worth a look. I think @dc and @sughly may really enjoy this!

Oh wow! So damn beautiful! Thanks man!
Edit: Makes me want to see Tangled animated in that style!
-
🙂 Sure is purty!

Of man, some of that was super pretty.
Worst timing ever for it but…
Warhammer 40K Only War RPG session recap that happened on Saturday (before I got sick):
P.S On a slightly related note, @chuloopa, how goes the Dark Heresy stuff?
P.P.S Happy New Year everybody (in a few hours) 😀
The squad was trying to make its way to a nearby Imperial base however we found that we had to cross a territory thick with Greenskins before we could reach safety. We ruled out flying there in the Valkyrie because the Greenskins had many Ork/Gretchin jets and a tonne of anti-aircraft dakka. Our two Tanith soldiers volunteered to scout ahead and find the best way through the forest and past the Greenskin camps. They found a small outpost of what seemed to be nothing but Gretchin which they reckoned could be easily dealt with and we could punch through to the other side.
While the rest of us moved slowly towards the camp in our Chimera, the two Tanith (one was a scout and the other was a sharpshooter) surveyed the camp and found, among other things, a large gate with two towers fielding big dakka guns, caged Orks, two banks of rocket pods, a fairly large Squig pen, and a very large Zap Gun (essentially a Greenskin version of Plasma cannon). Fortunately the Tanith duo were quite stealthy so they managed to sneak into the base and plant explosives on both of the generators powering the Zap Gun and on one of the banks of rocket pods. That unfortunately exhausted their supply of remote-controlled explosives but they did have quite a reserve of Krak rockets and a solid rocket launcher.
The Tanith duo waited until the Chimera was in position before detonating the explosives and creating havoc in the Gretchin camp. The sharpshooter figured that shooting the locks off the Ork cages might make things a little more interesting and so sniped them off with her solid-shot sniper rifle. As the Orks were being caged by the Gretchin, they were not very friendly towards their captors and proceeded to beat the everloving snot out of them. Our scout grapnel-launched herself and her cohort up onto the tower and set about taking out the Gretchin manning one of the dakka guns. The Chimera then began travelling at speed towards the Gretchin camp however they were still about 800 meters away.
The camp was in a right mess at the moment so the sharpshooter decided to add to it. One Krak rocket was fired at the remaining rocket pod and severely damaged it but did not destroy it. This did give away her position so the Gretchin started scurrying up the hill to where she had been sniping. The Gretchin also started swarming where the scout was on top of the tower. The Gretchin fell back from the pummeling they were receiving from the freed Orks so they released the Squigs to deal with them. The Chimera kept accelerating towards the gatehouse and the camp.
The Chimera came into range of the damaged rocket pod and the Gretchin released a full barrage. Well, they would have if the previous damage from the Krak rocket hadn’t severely crippled their firing mechanism and caused a cascade failure which blew up the entire weapon and its crew when they attempted to fire the weapon. Only slightly deterred, the Gretchin fired the Zap Gun and missed the speeding Chimera and that was the last juice that the Zap Gun had left as the generators had been blown up. The Orks were devoured by the Squigs and the Gretchin Squig Herders forced the fleshy mass towards the rapidly approaching Chimera. The Squigs harmlessly bounced off the armour plating of the Chimera as the speeding APC just ran over countless Squigs.
The Gretchin were beginning to overrun the scout who was trapped in one of the towers. With some quick thinking, the scout and her cohort grapnel-launched over to the other tower just as the Gretchin horde were about to overwhelm them. The Chimera was speeding rapidly towards the gate of the Gretchin camp as our Techpriest driver initiated ramming speed. Unfortunately for us (our medic + me [stormtrooper]), a Squig managed to get itself stuck in our tracks and the Chimera skewed off course and missed the gate. We instead went straight through the tower that our scout had just recently vacated.
As the Chimera crashed through into the main camp, we lowered the back ramp and I charged out into the Gretchin horde, clobbering many of them with my power fist. Our sharpshooter had taken care of her pursuers on the ridge and had proceeded to headshot the majority of the Squig Herders which left them directionless and causing more damage to the Gretchin themselves than us. The combined firepower of our squad plus the armament of the Chimera broke the rest of the Gretchin horde and forced them to flee. We now had a slightly safer path towards the Imperial base.
-
Happy New Year, man! Was excellent meeting you at Supanova! Will have to meat more in 2014!
-
Hey mate! That sounds pretty bloody epic! You guys definately seem to be having a good game.
I’d actually been meaning to give you an update, but things have been super hectic In fact, i’ve only played once since the last update i gave you, due to everyone’s work and holiday commitments.
So basically in the last game we’re aboard a luxury transport ship that is taking us to report to the Inquisitor we are working for. Unfortunately we have been boarded by a cultist group known as The Brother hood – a group of renegade psykers and sympathisers. Upwards of 40 cultists had boarded the ship and proceeded to eliminate the on board secuirty force, leading us to be involved in some rather large firefights. With the aid of some lucky rolls for the PC’s and VERY unlucky rolls for the cultists, we have eliminated most of them, but taken A LOT of damage in the process.
The worst hit by far is my Arbitrator. We were clearing the last room, a large on-board casino, and i rushed in along with an imperial guard PC, trying to make it to the nearest cover in order to provide covering fire for the last security officer and our groups Psycher and Tech Priest. Unfortunately, thanks to my poor agility, I only made it half way to the closest table before being riddled with las fire. Direct shots to my head, which is unprotected at this point. This took me down to -5 wounds, meaning i had to permanently burn one of my two fate points in order to survive.
Unfortunately, this means i also took critical damage in the location. All of my hair has been burned off and my right eye has been vaporised. This has also given me a whole HEAP of insanity points and temporary insnainty for around 13 hours, where i can only repeat the last phrase i heard – the brotherhood is father, the brotherhood is mother.Thankfully for me, however, it seemed the shot to the head has caused a beserk fury of sorts – every single shot i took from that point on killed a cultist. I personally accounted for 6 of them before the fight was done.
Now we have ventured into the maze-like engine room of the ship to expunge the last of the cultists – unfortunhately for us we have found them to be plague zombies, attacking without warning from every corner….And now we await the next game… 😀
-
Oh man that sounds pretty intense. The dice can go any which way which is what I love about RPGs in general but particularly the 40K ones. It is quite hard to guarantee a success on most of your rolls until you get a lot of experience so you are generally running at a 50% chance of failure for most of the time which is borderline crazy when we’re expected to defend the Imperium.
Bad luck about burning the fate point. I had to burn one in an earlier session when I got shanked with a power knife by a Dark Eldar assassin. Thank the Emperor for fate points. 😀 (Although it sounds like you got off worse, I didn’t suffer any critical damage as I pretty much got insta-gibbed and I think taking that many insanity points is going to be interesting. As a frontline stormtrooper, I haven’t been mentally affected/chaos-afflicted too much yet but there’s always time.)
I think Dark Heresy is actually the hardest of the 40K stuff to play as you’re not exactly combat-trained and you’re expected to deal with daemons and heretics and xenos. At least as a guardsman we get slightly better equipment and, while expendable, we are expected to dish out some pain. Deathwatch seems like a cakewalk to me but then again you are Spesh Mereens so it’s expected. 😛
Anyway, good luck with your next session and good luck burning out the taint of Nurgle. Happy new year, defender of the Imperium. 😀
-
We’re definitely going to have to play Rise of the Triad during MultiTAYer Monday.
Just had a Multiplayer session, and holy crap, was it a hell of a lot of fun.
Over the top, zany as hell, even though I was losing, I couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face.
😀
All my friends bailed on me and I don’t want to go out by myself 🙁 Looks like I’ll be welcoming in the new year by being drunk on my loungeroom floor laughing too hard at South Park!
-
*smash cut to Liondrive watching Sex and the City*
😀
-
I finished all of it, even the movies! 😀
And if I was going to get drunk watching SatC I’d have to go all out and make myself some cocktails and martinis 😉 -
Real men watch high school musical.
-
-
The current way I’m welcoming the new year is doing a virus scan of my pc.
I’m so bored…
:'(-
Alcohol fixes everything my friend 🙂
I guarantee your virus scan will be 1,000,000% more fun when you’re drunk!-
Oh, I’ve already started.
Nothing like Jameson in a shot glass.
-
-
-
Hmm. Over share that no one wants to hear about.
-
=( I hope you manage to patch things up
-
That’s rough 🙁
Hope you’re alright man, don’t try and drive or anything if you’re getting drunk. I’m still only new-ish here, but I can tell everyone here really cares about you!
Hopefully everything’s not too serious and it all gets sorted out. -
Whatever it was, I hope it works out, my man! You deserve only good things!
-
Given your username and bearing in mind I came in too late to see what the problem was, would it be tactless to suggest that you chill out?
-
Freeze is a cool guy. He won’t give you the cold shoulder for that.
-
-
Hope all is well, Freeze. You’re awesome.
-
Holy crap, that makes the nostrils burn!
So my mother is hosting a new years party tonight. I shall celebrate it by barricading myself in my room, only emerging to pilfer chips and assorted snacks. That’s the Phlanispo way!
-
You stole my idea! 🙁
December 31st… the day when everyone takes stock of the year that was. Here’s mine.
I extended myself not at all in my bill-paying employment, and intend the same next year.
My kids continue to bewilder, inspire and infuriate me in equal measure. They are the volcanic eruption at the centre of my universe. At some point, the decision to add to the Corral of Chaos was taken, and a third little Walsh-Smith will be spewing molten crazy into our lives from mid-2014.
My self-proclaimed #YearOfWriting lived up to its name, with over 500 pages of comics being produced, and a number of exciting projects launched. In this year, The Lesser Evil was re-released as an omnibus, and its 600 page sequel was also published. I attended three conventions as an exhibitor, and met dozens of awesome people. I taught myself a variety of new artistic techniques which I will be applying to future work, ventured into self-publishing for the first time with mixed results, and ran a quick survey which helped me to understand issues of payment for commissioned works.
But most important, at the core of everything I do, and my reason for breathing in and out, is my wonderful wife. Her year has been up and down, which has meant that mine has been the same. But through it all, good times and bad, the one thing that we can count on is our unshakeable faith in each other and the immutable bonds of love that will keep us tethered tightly together through life and whatever awaits beyond. It’s good to know that even while life is undergoing massive upheaval, some things will never change.
And now to bring in the new year like I brought in the old: by making comics at midnight.
Happy New Year, TAY.
Working in a liquor store this time of year, you sure meet some interesting people. Also cute girls aplenty tonight \o/
Raincg sim time! 😀
Driving children at night through tight streets packed with ambling pedestrians who seem to think the entire fucking road is a footpath while having the angry birds soundtrack blaring in my ear from behind all so they can see a 10 minute firework display: Stress headache
The look on their little faces: NOT FUCKING WORTH IT!
-
Run people over. The world has too many of the fuckers if you ask me 😀
-
Nah I’ve already scratched the car once by accidently scraping the side of the letterbox, I don’t want any more damage. I’ll confine my vehicular homicide to GTA Online for the moment, at least there you can just avoid the cops for 5 minutes by hiding in a bush and get away with murder, it takes at LEAST half an hour for real cops to lose interest
-
Oh yeah, that’s right, damn people leave dents, scratches and those pesky blood stains. Yeah best to avoid it, or use someone elses vehicle!
-
Aww I missed the Christmas shenanigans, drats 🙁 I wish I had known! Fun times by the looks though.
-
They’ll do it next christmas I’m sure, Online is really rather fun against all expectations, it’s well worth playing if you’re able & have mates online
-
-
It’s not often one gets the opportunity to say this but this video encode is taking so long it won’t be done before next year!
Happy New Years, my friends. You guys are all kinds of awesome!
-
It’s only *looks at watch* 23:49, you’re early DC, you monster!
-
He’s always early.
😉-
Hahaha, oh man. That’s cruel 😛
-
Was totally going to make that same joke myself, so it’s acceptable. XD
-
Happy new year errbody!
-
-
-
-
He’s known for his quickness.
Even me?
Sitting here, sore from work, kinda tired, but listening to music so I have that going for me. Tempted to have whiskey, but I want more of that awesome home brew I had when I got home.. But there’s no more D=
Okay, so can anyone figure this out for me. I have a laptop which I use as a HTPC currently, and it wasn’t playing nice display wise with my new TV, so I decided to uninstall the display drivers thinking it was an issue with them, well I was right. I uninstalled them and all is good.. So i’m wondering what the fuck happened since the laptop played nice with my previous telly.
-
How was it connected? Chances are that the previous display mode wasn’t compatible in some way
-
HDMI both times. Previous TV was 720p new one is 1080p..
-
Happy New Beer, everyone!
My New Years Resolutions:
-Save money by buying less games.
– Find a partner.
– Draw more.
-
Happy New Year.
I think your first resolution is absolute rubbish. You should be buying all the games.
-
No, no.
I won’t buy as many games.
Honestly, all I’m waiting for is Stick of Truth,-
I normally have a list each year that’s divided between must have day one buys and games I’m super interested in but I’m happy waiting for a price drop or sale. Destiny and DA:I are my must haves for this year, but Tay marketing being what it is I’ll probably end up spending more money than intended.

Played an extremely long game of the Pathfinder card game today.
Third adventure of the first module. Seven locations, one of them has a dragon, the rest have to be closed off or the dragon escapes to one of them when you beat it. About 8 turns left in the game before the dragon escapes, we’d closed 4 of the 7 locations when I encountered the dragon. Too early and we didn’t want him running, and as I’m playing the rogue I got to avoid him, which reshuffles him into the deck. Just as well because I was at 3 cards left in my deck which is effectively 3 HP. Reshuffled him back in. Closed off one other location leaving us with the dragon in one deck and one last basically unexplored location left, which we needed to push through to find a skeleton henchman, beat that, then close off the last location before we challenge the dragon.
Then, four turns left to go, one of the guys has an amazing idea – we beat the dragon in one spot and it has to run to the unclosed one. Immediately close off the spot he was at before and then beat him in the one remaining location and he’s down. So he has his turn, pushes through enough to find the dragon, flushes him to the new spot and closes the location. Dragon is now somewhere in the final location. Next guy along explores, doesn’t find him.
It’s around to my turn. We’ve got two turns left. I’ve got 3 cards in my deck and 4 in my hand – a magic bow, a crossbow, some magic armor and a detect magic spell. At the end of my turn I have to draw back up to 5, and if I can’t I die and have to reroll.
Play the detect magic spell. It reveals the top card of the location, and if it’s a magic card or a blessing you can attempt to take it. It’s a detect magic spell. I can get it on a 2 or more, but I only roll 1d4 for intelligence. Rolled a 2. Immediately burned the second detect magic, and reveal the card – the dragon. So I’m down to 3 cards in my hand, 3 in my deck. Effectively 1 HP. Fight the dragon anyway.
1d4-1 acid splash damage. I roll a 4. 🙁 Sacrifice my magical armor to mitigate the 3 acid damage, so now I’m basically a naked elf thief with a bow. 2 cards in hand. At the end of the turn I have to draw 3. Can’t take any more damage or I’m dead, and I’m about to fight a dragon. Roll my dice – 1d12 + 1d8 + 1d6 + 1, aiming for 12. Roll is 21 total. Knocked it’s head off and we win the encounter. \o/
Modified my deck with the spoils, picking up a pair of new blessings, a replacement item for the utterly redundant caltrops I was carrying and the magical bow (Shocking Longbow +1) and gained a +1 to my dex rolls as a bonus for beating the module!
tl;dr: Pathfinder card game is pretty awesome. Hits quite a lot of the same buttons as proper Pen & Paper dungeon crawler RPGs without requiring as much work.
Goodbye 2013. While there were a few good moments you we’re largely a massive pile of hot garbage and I will not miss you at all.
That bastard Luigi has a lot to answer for.
Year of Luigi, we hardly knew ye.

Begin the year of Salvatore!

What a way to start the new year! Woke up this morning to find a gift of Magic the Gathering 2014 from The Cracks! What a champ! Kudos to you my friend! Hopefully this is just the first of many good things to happen to me this year! 🙂
Hope you all had fun last night and didn’t get too wasted/hungover!
Happy new year everyone!
I wanna go back to bed =P
-

It’s 2014 (well, not where I am, but bac in Australia it is)! Who’s gonna care?-

-
Yell back tis the year for sharing 😛
-
the year for napping. =P
-
-
-
So I woke up with that godawful “wrecking ball” song from Miley Cyrus stuck in my head. What a terrible way to start the the year. You disappoint me, brain
-
YOU CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL!
-
Here’s a song to try and help.
For once, it isn’t Hanson!
-
Why is it that this:
Is the only song I think of when I hear Wrecking Ball?
Screw Miley Cyrus. -
I had a song from the Frozen OST stuck in my head, so it’s the same start to the day as the rest of the week so far. XD
How are we all?
-
Good!
How’s the new year in Australia? I take it that the world dudn’t end?-
It’s hot and the cicadas are stupidly loud

So…
It’s finally happening.
THE CICADA APOCOLYPSE!

New Year, still bored… 🙁
Installing Company of Heroes 2…
Oh, I forgot:
MultiTAY is tonight at at 8:30pm (VIC, TAS, NSW); 8pm (SA); 7:30pm (QLD); 7pm (NT); 5:30pm (WA)
We’ll be playing Star Wars: Battlefront 2, and Rise of the Triad.
See you then!
Start the new year like you know you will continue it, buying games you are not going to play
My recommendation for today is Mark of the Ninja, I didn’t play that many games released this year but this is my GOTY for 2013. And for 3 bucks a steal.
@thecracks
Thank you very much, sir. 🙂
Bad Joke page six!
What bone will a dog never eat?
A trombone.!
Also, @alexkidman I noticed that the page says 2013.
It’s a year behind.
New page re-post:

I’m pretty sure my dogs would try and eat a trombone if given the opportunity.
So Sam is napping due to feeling unwell and I got sucked into the rabbit hole of Game Dev Tycoon
Bad jokes page 6!
You know how they use to give immigrants a test when they came to America? Well the last question on the test was to use pink, green and yellow in a sentence. So when the Mexican had his turn he answered the last question: “When the phone goes GREEN GREEN GREEN I PINK it up and say YELLOW?”
MERRY NEW YEAR, TAY!
I hope you all have a safe and happy year.
I’ve had a pretty good year, all things considered. A few dips here and there, but I’m feeling pretty good with my position at the moment. I was never really a New Years resolution person before 2013, but I’m a fan now. My resolution last year was just to try new things. I was really burnt out at the end of 2012 after 4 years of uneventful Uni life and general unemployment woes, so I told myself I would try and break out a little. It might sound a little silly to set such a general goal but I did actually make an effort last year, even if I probably didn’t do all that much in the grand scheme of things. I’m satisfied with what effort I put in and I honestly do think having that goal in the back of my mind helped me have an overall positive year.
I’ve given it a bit of thought over the last few days and I’m going to try and be a bit more focused this time around, in addition to “trying new things” again**. I think my resolution for this year is going to be to try to improve my cooking. Kinda feels like it is the best time to do something like this now that I’m living on my own. I want to set a loose goal for myself to make something I’ve never made before at least once a week. Hopefully that should be do-able. Even if I don’t stick to it, if I can learn a couple of new things I’ll be satisfied. I’ve got two cookbooks and the Internet, so I suppose we’ll see how it turns out!
Anyway, good luck to everyone for the new year! Whatever your plans are! You’re a great bunch and I look forward to another year.
** “After all, our goal each year should be to increase the number of goals we set for yourselves!” 😛
-
Happy new year!
Hope all that cooking stuff works out! -
Happy New Year!
Glad to hear that your goals worked out. Especially finally getting a job and moving near the city.
Man. I feel rather awful, like I had a way bigger night than I did. It was kinda sad really, we went out with the little kids for the early fireworks, then came back to figure out what we’d do next. But all felt so tired that we just stayed at home and watched them on TV, then went to bed 😛
Glad to see the end of 2013 though. Horrible, awful, terrible year.
Okay, is it just me, or have the conditions at the T20 Big Bash games in Hobart been terrible?
Because every time I’ve seen them, it’s been raining. 🙁
-
That’s implying that the conditions in Hobart are ever good 😛 it’s pissing down here in Burnie and it’s raining in Launceston so it’s more of a Tasmania thing on a whole!
I just realised that TAY has been sent back in time 😮
-
Does that mean you have to do 2013 all over again?
-
I honestly can’t decide whether that would be a good thing or a bad thing.
-
I think on a quantum level its both until you take action and collapse the waveform
-
-
Drinking Cascade Light, watching the T20 on Ten.
A good way to start the new year. 🙂
And MultiTAY in six hours.
A great way to start the new year.
Bought The Last of Us & Beyond Two Souls this morning along with the Megadeth 5 album set, can’t pass up 5 classic thrash records for 20 bucks..
Tried to run Next Car Game TEchnology Sneak Peek, got a “Failed to create D3D Device” message.
Time to update the drivers, methinks.
If the monitor is the eyes of the computer, then the graphics card is the optic nerve.
Two and a quarter hours til MultiTAY!
Respost from my fb page last night, but why not.. it’s page 6 after all!
My mum laughed at me when I told her I was going to make a car out of spaghetti. You should have seen the look on her face as I drove pasta!
Terminal boredom. Can’t think of anything to do. Don’t feel like doing any of it.
-
Join us for MultiTAY!
We’re playing Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Rise of the Triad!
It starts in 5 minutes!-
Is that on GameCube?
-
PC.
-
Never heard of it.
-
-
-
So I have another conundrum related to the GOG situation. I have had my 3DS for months, but have never used it. I finally got the thing connected to the internet. I am 16. Does putting my real birth date restrict anything? Is there anything that would be barred off from me? This is Nintendo, after all. I would imagine that Nintendo would shield the poor defenseless children from from the horrors of web browsers and the like. The Terms of Service even stated that you had to have to be 18 to even read it. So should I put my real birthdate, or should I claim I was born in 1979 like with everything else?
-
Hm, I’m not sure. I wouldn’t think there would be any issues because there aren’t any 18+ games on the eShop. Up to you.
Ps. Also congrats, pretty sure you’re the youngest TAYbie 😛 Sorry @lambomang
-
Okay, thanks.
-
-
As a mother of a 13 year old, I would recommend asking your parents what to do. As someone who can still remember the frustrations of being a 16/17 year old, if you haven’t put your real birthdate in before, why start now? 😛
Five minutes til MultiTAY!
We’re playing Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Rise of the Triad!
Hope everyone had a good New Years! Am still recovering, am still trying to figure out a) who took all the photos that are on my phone, and b) who on earth drove me round. None of us have any idea who it was, which is slightly concerning!
Last night was pretty great. Me and my Mexican amigo split up eventually. Oliver’s friends are awesome, his friends are weird and scary, so we ended up at two different parties.
People in Burnie are awesome though. Spent the entire night with people I’ve never even met before, besides two who I’ve only met once or twice, but they’re a very welcoming bunch who apparently already knew me quite well and were looking forward to meeting me 😛 Was the best night I’ve had in agesss.
Going back to Launceston tomorrow, then back to Hobart on Saturday, then dealing with the kind request to our housemate to vacate on Monday. That will be interesting.
-
It was probably you in both cases.
Multi-TAY is go!
Password: MultiTAY
More interesting info on the price fixing going on on steam, Bioshock Infinite is the current voted game and the price back to $80 instead of the $100 it was the other day.
I feel like I should go to bed.
-
How was MultiTAYer?
-
Enjoyable.
-
Urgh. Had to spend most of the day figuring out the gift card system for Amazon. Turns out I had to migrate to a US-based account, as gift cards are not available for .au-based accounts. Had to go contact support. They were surprisingly helpful. (Granted, their job is to be helpful, but my expectations were low)
But hey, Dead Space Martyr!
-
Not available? Since when? I’ve used them several times in the past
-
Wow, you know a book has grabbed you when you tell yourself you are going to read just one more chapter, and then continue reading for the next 40 pages. Gripping stuff.
Just somehow lost about 5 hours playing Game Dev Tycoon. Not sure how that happened.
Good news is my company has a hit game franchise with its Cranky Kong’s Pussy Tour series. So far Cranky Kong’s Cuntry Pussy Tour reviewed the best with a 9.75 average but Cranky Kong’s Galactic Pussy Tour has sold the most generating 5.7 million sales despite getting an 8.5 average.
-
Man, Game Dev Tycoon… I know, right? I totally got sucked in to the epic ups-and-downs, rags-to-riches story my plucky little developer was carving out for herself and her independent studio. That ended up being one of those, “Ah crap, I’m not really going to be able to get any sleep before I have to go to work now,” things.
-
You never cease to amaze me.
Bravo, sir, and may Cranky enjoy his adventures.
Happy New Year, TAY. I hope things are well for you and those you care about.
Myself, I spent time with friends and family in various places. A bit of traveling, but nothing too wearying. All the time spent not working or studying, and being kind of forced to just… relax and be sociable amongst new people I hadn’t met… it was all pretty useful. And family are good for putting some things in perspective a bit. Help me unclench my ass for a bit. While I was out and about I got to play a few games I got given during the family Steam-sale-gifting binge. And I even managed to get my Mum playing several of them. (Yeah, if you saw me playing Bejeweled 3 for eight hours straight, that wasn’t me.) Ended up setting her up with her own account! Unthinkable. Youngest brother bought her the PopCap bundle, so that’s her entertainment sorted for the next couple years.
The other benefit to a week and a half off was being able to spend more time in the gym, really looking at how I do things. Changed up my routine, and it has become clear to me that all my past efforts were simply me being a pussy, and now I know real pain. (That means it’s working.)
Enjoyable additions I’ve made which I’m liking and having some fun with: at the end of my planned workout, ask myself, “Which of those exercises was the easiest?” Then go do another set of that one, with extra weight and reps. Plus a bonus round finale of one high-weight/high-rep set of whatever I really want to work on this month – every day, no matter what the regular routine is that day. (Also, like… damn near 100g of protein immediately afterwards seems to be having a very rapidly-noticable effect.)
My New Year’s Resolution is: if I’m not working for my surrogate Uncle or anywhere else really that’s at least two paygrades higher than my current job by June, I’ll shave the beard. Yeah. I know. It costs manliness, but the statistics don’t lie. Corporate prefers a smooth chin. I’ve said it here, so yeah… now I can’t back out, like I probably would from one of those wussy secret, private resolutions.
-
Good to hear the time off was a positive experience and a chance to relax after your tough few months.
About the beard, if you feel it is affecting your chances just shave it now. We’ll probably poke fun at you but it will be with kindness 🙂 Also a beard can always grow back.
-
It’s ok, we’ve been over the bit about the removing of facial hair!

I had been trying to find TAY for two days.
I feel like a derp. =/
-
when in doubt, ask @dc!
-
true. So I’m even derpier.
Also, any community Kudos this week?
-
No derpier than the person who put this TAY in the January 2013 folder…
You can have my kudos if you like
-
you’ll need to check with @markserrels on that one. I’d say possibly since he’s back now, but may not since he’s only going to have been back a couple of days.

DayZ Diaries:
Today I found a blue pen.
Today was a great day.
If only I had kept the black pen, then I could have a pen collection.
-
I haven’t found a pen yet but then I’ve only played 20 minutes which was mostly sorting out controls and trying to tame that awful mouse sensitivity. Can you stab people in the eyes with a pen?
-
No, but you can inspect them!
And the description is all like “A [coloured] pen”.
Very cool.-
So I could show a zombie a pen, it’d read the description and it’s eyes would explode from the thrill? That’s settled it, as soon as I finish ac4 I’m right into dayz!

@dc Newsroom 1×03
Excellent episode. Really great way to push the story forward a few months, show the passage of time, measure the impact of the new format. I also tend to love episodes of shows that jump around in time. Lots of really interesting character stuff (really enjoyed the panic attack scene, for example), and I love that on a macro level, the unfettered idealism is starting to crash up against reality a bit.
-
Ah! Such a good episode! Love how they’re getting into the whole corporate business clash with the news business too. Especially brave of HBO since they’re owned by the same parent company that owns CNN.
Happy new year to everybody.
I’m not wishing any good fortune on myself this year, as it’s all going to my girlfriend hoping this year will make things easier on her just trying to make ends meet let alone being able to save coming here one day..
On a lighter note, been having good fun on Guild Wars 2 after playing many hours of yesterday and NYE. 100% explored the Black Citadel and the Plains of Ashford and he is assigned to now travel north. I’ve got my flamethrower again and Thoruk Steelclaw is lighting everything on fire even if it’s not easily flammable :), if he doesn’t shoot a thousand holes into his enemies with his rifle and turret first.
-
You can have my good fortune, man. I already have plenty.
Watched 13 eps of HBO’s Girls yesterday. I like it. Really graphic though and makes me kind of uncomfortable because I’m a prude, but well written and grounded in reality with its own voice and all that. Also those girls have to find some guys who’ll treat ’em right. Haha!
-
Recommend it?
-
I enjoy it, but there’s a whole lot of stuff I’d recommend before it. (Orange is the New Black, for one.) I found that even after an entire season of Girls I didn’t feel strong connections with any of the characters. I was interested in their stories and liked the tone and writing, but nothing actually resonated. I’m guessing that’s because of the whole female perspective thing. Maybe. Haha!
-
I would 🙂
(ugh, I lost the write up I was writing on the show. Damn TAY!)
-
Dear TAY,
To commemorate Page Seven, I offer this form letter as commiseration for those of you have returned to work today. I hope you offer the same to me.
Sincerely,
Shane
-
Dear Shane,
I too join the ranks of the returning worker today. I offer you my condolences. On the plus side, they are literally only five people here so I’m not going to do anything. 😀
Yours in government employment,
Popdart5 -
Dear Shane,
I never left except for public holidays and even then I was on afterhours recall for any critical faults that transpired at work. Thankfully, there wasn’t any.
I offer robo hugs as that is all I can spare at this time. May the machine spirit be with you.
Regards,
Tech Knight -
Dear Shane.
Solidarity in our hardships, brother.
Of course, very little actual work is happening here, as some of our core systems fell over before Christmas and don’t seem to have been restored yet.Yours in reluctant workplace attendance,
Transientmind -
Dear Shane,
Hahahahahaha. Hahahahahaha.
Ha,
Returns to work in 2 months.-
>:(
-
-
Dear Shane
I’d offer my commiserations but I never left work and would kill to have a Christmas break with my family.
So get back to work slacker.
Love
Freeze. -
Dear Shane,
Cheers for the commiseration, but I never really left, so not sure if this really applies to me. I fail at holidays.
Regards,
welbot
Oh man, Arcade Fire is 17 days away! WOOOOOOO!
Dear Tay
We’re doing resolutions huh? Well, I bought a treadmill, so I resolve to use it.
Yours in 2014
Red
-
Dear Red,
As a kneejerk reaction to someone else’s successful 2013 resolution, I resolved to go a whole year without chocolate, but about four hours later, I ate half a bag of Kit Kats.
I think I let myself down…
by making the resolution in the first place.Sincerely,
Shane-
Dear Shane
A mate of mine’s resolution was to go vegetarian for two months. We think he’s become everything he hated at university.
Future looking red.
-
Also, speaking of sedentary activities: Civ V! Tonight! 8 Est!
-
Dear Red
I must say I am sad to see that formality is severely lacking in this new year. It seems to go down the drain a little more each year.
Hypothetically speaking, what would happen if somebody was interested but didn’t have the BNW expansion?Totally not talking about myself
Tigs-
Dearest Tigs,
The host of the game can disable BNW content via the DLC menu so that you can join in, same goes for those without G&K. You really should get BNW though, it’s really good 🙂
cc @redartificeFrom the research center of the machine spirit,
Tech Knight -
Dear Tigs
We’ll see what everyone has and doesn’t have tonight.
That said, I got BNW, which is the be’s pyjamas, off gamefly really cheap.
Yours
Red.
-
God, you and @tech_knight as so pushing.
Alright, alright leave me alone, I’ll get it
Sheesh I hope you are happy now, so much nagging and bullying-
What’s my physics programming got to do with this? 😛
-

-
Mr. Artifice
Is that Eastern Standard Time or estimated? Or do you really mean AEDST?
Stop confusing me.
XOXO
Freeze-
Dear Cold one
Check the Steam group for correct times- think t’s 7:30 NSW time (checked it just then)
Yours
Red.
-
Oh. I’ll have to sit this one out then. That’s 6:30 my time and I’ll just be getting home from work.
Next time.
-
We can move it back if required. Just realised I won’t be home until closer to 8 so yeah heh.
-
-
-
Looks like Brisbane is going to be hot hot hot this weekend. Ooh boy, it’s been a while since we had a near 40 degree day.
-
40 degrees is intolerable. Inhospitable, I say! What kind of madmen would settle in a place where that sort of thing happens? I’m expecting to be very miserable indeed. Well. On the parts of my commute which occur between islands of air-conditioning.
-
Yes, four days is indeed a while. 😛
-
You’ve been 4 days without?! Damn! Lucky you! It was 40 at my house yesterday 😐
-
Yes, the short follow up story thingy to To the Moon is available. I know what I’ll be doing as soon as I get home from this Lud forsaken hellhole of delicious food.
Crying. In case you were wondering.
Dear steam folk
Don’t forget that the current steam sale ends in 18 hours. At which time all trading cards received will vanish into thin air. So make sure you have crafted your badges before then. If you really don’t care about the badges just post your cards on the market priced at $.012 and they will sell instantly. You can go higher if you want to wait.
This also means that you have less than a day to ensure all your troll gifts have been purchased and delivered.
Yours in game purchasing
Tigs
-
The cards don’t cease when the sale ends. Until I sold them last week I still had cards from the 2013 summer sale.
-
What is unique to this badge?
During the sale there is no limit to the number of times you can upgrade these badges. They will continue to drop rewards.
Unlike previous badges, once the sale ends the cards will disappear. Make sure to trade and craft your badges before Jan 3rd 11am PST.
Think because there was still so many of them floating around they changed it for this sale-
11am PST – timezone is -8.
That would make it about 6am on Saturday for us.
-
-
-
If anyone wants some of the cards I have just request a trade with me. Don’t worry about giving me anything, I already have the badge thingie.
-
Thanks Nob!
-
-
Doesn’t it end at midnight on the 3rd wherever valve are? That’d be the day after tomorrow wouldn’t it?
-
I think the same ends about 5am tomorrow for us.
Looking at the faq they might still give another day to sort the cards out and craft badges. Or the last day is just an encore with he standard mass sale ended
-
-
I’m not so fussed about the badges and all that. What I care about is that I didn’t pick up CSGO when it was about $3.50. Really, I’ve missed most of this sale anyhow.
-
I missed that one as well. Which probably isn’t as upsetting as it seems since I suck majorly at CS.
Although a taybie game could be fun. Although I did vote for it just didn’t see it when it won. -
Well if you and @tigerion haven’t seen it yet, CSGO is one of the encore sale things today
-
I saw it and then Tigs told me on Twitter. Looks like people are determined that I get this one :p
-
-
Taking my sister’s broken iPhone in to be fixed tomorrow. Will then swap over to using it for a bit.
She told me it was an iPhone 4 but on closer inspection it turns out it’s a 4S. Bonus!
Got the keys for our new place this morning \o/
now the actual moving commences /o\…
i will be without internet from the weekend onwards, until we can organise it for our new place :\ wish me luck! STEAM OFFLINE MODE YOU BETTER FREAKING WORK THIS TIME!!!
-
Good luck!
-
We’re all counting on you.
-
I just want to tell you both Good Luck!

RIP 🙁

But i shall remember him fondly, by re-watching all of the movies i have with him 😛 -
I need to re-watch Police Squad/Naked Gun.

Uninteresting Kantai Collection Update #1545 (@popdart5)
Running the event maps over and over but basically since I got a second Mutsu (she’s so unlucky that I think the game is telling me something) E3 has stopped dropping anything of note. E3’s drop pool still has Mikuma, Kumano, Shoukaku and Nagato for me though so I’m going to keep at it until the event ends since there’s no real reason not to. The main issue I’m hitting is that the fights are quite hard and I almost always end up with 2-3 ships in the red by the time I finish the boss node. I’m beating the boss pretty consistently, but it costs a lot of time/buckets to run it more than 2-3 times in a day. I can do E-2 but the drop rate isn’t as good and no chance at Kumano or Mikuma.
Did some building instead, in the hope that I lucked out and got something. Managed to finally build Abukuma so I was able to complete another composition quest (one of the ones they added in the update that upgraded Kiso – Abukuma, Akebono, Ushio, Kasumi and something else, can’t remember what the 5th was). So now the only composition quests I have left in my list are the 5th Carrier Division (Shoukaku and Zuikaku) and 2 Aviation Cruisers (Mogami, Mikuma, Suzuya, Kumano). I can finish the Aviation Cruisers one since I have Mogami and Suzuya, but Suzuya’s Aviation Cruiser upgrade requires level 30. Probably one or both of these quests unlocks some new ones as well.
I the spent yesterday actually grinding 3-2-A for XP, because my Shigure had gotten midway through 58 and was within striking distance of her Kai-2 upgrade. Also used the opportunity to take a few newer ships along for XP as well and discovered that Zuikaku is an absolutely amazing carrier. At level 1 she was getting MVP ahead of my Level 40, max modernization Soryuu. She fields a crazy amount of planes – slots are 21, 21, 21, 12. I expect that over time she may displace my Hiryuu as my main carrier but the difference in level at the moment is significant enough that Hiryuu is more consistent.
And I finally got my Shigure to her Kai-2 upgrade. My primary fleet is now all level 60 or above – Shigure (60), Hiryuu (76), Haruna (61), Hiei (62), Kitakami (65), Ooi (61). Had a couple of cracks at passing 4-2 and was clearing the nodes easily but the compass RNG kept directing me away from the boss 🙁
Now that Yuudachi, Shigure and the torpedo sisters have their Kai-2 remodels I need to pick the next ship to focus on leveling up. Leaning toward leveling either Kiso or one of the subs. My subs tend to get whacked pretty fast through and their torpedo stats are too low to do much damage at the stage of the game I’m at. Kiso is a pretty long-haul upgrade grind though – level 65. Hard to choose.

I feel bad because I haven’t done any Kantai stuff for a solid week now. Pretty slack for my first event but I’m not too concerned as there will always be more.
Well done on maximising your gain from this event. I hope the RNG god praises you and gives you the last few ships you need (especially Shoukaku, then you could run around like the IJN in its prime). It sounds like pretty much everyone in your main fleet is on their Kai-2 upgrade if its available (or did you end up refusing to advance Hiei because of her ugly art?).
-
Hiei and Kongou upgrade at 75 so I’m not there yet. I’m probably not going to upgrade Hiei though, and my Kongou is still down at the mid-40s.
EDIT: I keep meaning to sub in Kongou for Hiei but the level difference is now pretty huge. 🙁 However if I’m swapping out my current level 60 destroyer flagship for something low-end (eg. my Kiso is only level 8 at the moment) then it might be a good time to also throw Kongou back in. Maybe some subs as well.

Dear TAY,
Today’s TAYlist will be brought to you by the letters S, T, U, P, I, D, T again, A, and Y; and the numbers 2, 0, 1, and 4.
Cordially yours,
Lucifer9783

What… no responses yet? Fine! In that case:

I’m sorry, it has to be done:

I actually liked that!

They redid the entire album and yeah, that track was my favourite “remix”.

Where Is My Mind – Pixies
What the hell. It seems that two adware extensions were installed on my computer somehow. I promptly removed them. But I think that still might be on my computer. The comments on TAY are filled with those links to advertisements with the green arrow on top. Also, Adblock was somehow removed from my Firefox extensions. I don’t use Adblock all that often, I pretty much only use it as a backup plan if a text site has sound ads. But it is annoying nonetheless. I think I will come to regret not installing antivirus on my computer.
-
Well, I’ve worked out that the program is called Safesaver, but it is not listed in my extensions. I think I’ll restart my computer, see if it does anything.
-
I think it worked!
-
-
1 install malwarebytes anti malware,
2 update,
3 boot in safemode without network support,
4 Full scan,
5 Boot normally,
6 Full Scan,
7 ?
8 Profit!if something is detected when doing the second scan try scanning again in safe mode, it can take a few tries to clear it out.
And for save measure, run over with another anti-virus such as Windows Security Essentials to check if it’s fully cleared-
And run a light weight anti-virus such as Security Essentials (or defender) as a bare minimum… has 0 impact on performance but checks for stuff that tries to execute without permission and advises you (or blocks it depending on how tight you’ve set the settings)
-
EDIT – wait no, that was a bit rude,
HI MY NAME IS PIXEL
*waves*-
It’s ok, you’re foreign.
-
But i’m not german, so i can’t use that as an excuse for being rude 😐
-
They’re all the same around that area anyway.

-
-
Also if you think you’re infected it’s worth doing a pass with Microsoft’s Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT):
http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/malware-removal.aspx
The Safety Scanner can be worth a go too.
7. Clear system restore points
-
Does CCleaner clear restore points? i think it does… pretty handy little tool for when i’m lazy and wanna clear files XD
-
It does. CCleaner is incredibly powerful though and unless you know what you’re doing (I know you have PC experience and it sounds like Phlanispo does too, so more a warning to others reading) you can make things worse.
-
Yep, steer clear of the “Advanced Tools” if you don’t know what you’re doing…
One guy (don’t know how, or with what tool) brought his computer because he managed to wipe the MBR from it… WELL DONE SIR! 😛 -
We used to call them “fiddlers” at my old work.
People who know enough to break stuff but not enough to know how to fix it.
-
Hmm… Restarting seemed to remove it, but I’ll follow your tips if it shows up again.
-
It never hearts checking every once in a while anyway.
Just remember this:
The good (read: really really bad) viruses are the ones you don’t even know you have!

Add curry to the amazing reheat list. So good.

I miss Sughly. :'(
Potato Bake is amaaaaazing. Strange once made some potato bake dealy at her birthday dinner meat! It was good eating! True story!
-
The best bit is when the cream separates and the oily bit gets stuck in my beard. I smell like potato bake all day! \o/
-
that sounds disgusting-…. LY APPETISING
*drools*
-
-
-
I had a bad potato bake once, where the potato wasn’t cooked enough, it turned me off potato bakes for life
/o\
-
It must have been pretty damn bad to elicit that response. I’ve had undercooked potato bake before, and it didn’t even put me off it for five minutes 😛
-
I’ve ended up with some kind of a list-like summary of 2013 in gaming.
Games I played:
New Super Luigi U – A whole new game in place of the old one, with just enough changes to make it quite a different beast.
Pikmin 3 – Holy wow this is the most amazing thing I’ve played on Wii U
Wonderful 101 – I TAKE IT BACK THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I’VE PLAYED ON ANYTHING
Dream Trigger 3D – An odd little piece, had to force myself a little to get through it I think but it was decent. Something different.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 – I don’t think I really expected to enjoy it as much as I did. Perfectly crafted as a handheld game.
Rayman Origins – This was amazing, and I wish I hadn’t taken so long to play it.
FTL – I think it was a friend talking about it that made me pick it up. Maddeningly challenging, but so satisfying once you found your feet. Just a shame it always feels like the game ends right as it’s getting to be its most awesome.
Mirror’s Edge – And this one is partly another friend’s fault 😛 It was cool though, I liked it.
Fez – Now this was something else. Went in only knowing the smallest amount of what it was about, but what I found instead was something else entirely. And it was beautiful.
Thor DS – Standard fare for a WayForward game. Enjoyable, well-animated, a bit barebones. But still cool, and the only good version of the game.
Rhythm Tengoku – So glad I found this, Rhythm Heaven is the best thing. Great excuse to carry a Micro around for a while. The drum lessons were a good challenge.
Battletoads – FUCKING DID IT. PROPERLY.
Games I didn’t finish:
Insmouse no Yakata – It’s a really cool little game, instantly became one of my VB favourites. Don’t think I’ve finished it though, it’s quite hard.
Pokemon HeartGold – I think I’ve only actually played this twice so far, otherwise I’ve only used it to flush out the pokewalker.
Advance Wars – Started working on this again after discovering my save had disappeared, but then never got back to it again. Still an awesome game.
Games I didn’t play:
Rayman Legends
Super Mario 3D World
Link Between Worlds
Kirby: Mass Attack
Tingle’s Balloon Fight
Ni No Kuni
Adventure Time
Picross DS
Ping Pals
Bit.Trip Complete
FlingSmash
Captain Rainbow
No More Heroes 2: Hopper’s Edition
Go! Go! Minon!
Pandora’s Tower
The Last Story
Wii Music and a bunch of uDraw shit
Another copy of Skyward Sword
Wii Fit Plus
Boom Street
Lollipop Chainsaw
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
Mortal Kombat Komplete
Portal 2
Grabbed by the Ghoulies
Halo
Metal Gear Solid 2
Kuru Kuru Squash
Agent Under Fire
Gunstar Future Heroes
Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge
Bound High
Wild Trax
Vortex
Bomberman 4
Bomberman 5
Rock ‘n’ Roll Racing
Don’t actually have a resolution this year. I can’t even remember if I had one last year, though quite likely not. I guess I could always go with something like “not buying so many games that I don’t even end up playing”, but we all know that’s not gonna happen 😛
-
You’ve got seven women on your mind (four that want to own you, two that want to stone you, and one says she’s a friend of yours), and you can’t come up with a New Year’s Resolution…? 😛
Take it easy.
-
Still working on a more viable solution than a life of hermitry 😛
-
Don’t let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy.
-
Quoting The Eagles, slick.
-
This was before I knew how @mrtaco felt about the Eagles. Now I just feel bad 😛
-
It’s ok, I had no idea it was The Eagles until you mentioned it up there. And actually feel rather neutral towards them anyway 😛
-
You monster! Glen Frey & Don Henley are two of the best writers to grace music. Also their voices are pretty damn awesome.
-
@virus__ I’m just all-round not good at music. Hardly ever listen to it, don’t really know that many bands, don’t know the names of songs, generally don’t even hear the lyrics 😛 If I hadn’t found my little niche with Judas Priest I’d probably just be endlessly listening to the de Blob and F-Zero X soundtracks in the car instead.
-
-
Why feel bad, The Eagles are awesome 😛
-
-
Oh yeah, I just remembered I already bought my first game of the year last night. Guacamelee for what worked out to be $4.37 I think. I imagine that’ll be sitting there for a while before I get around to playing it.
Year is off to a good start!
Games Finished in 2014:
Injustice – Gods Among Us
JUST CAUSE 2 IS ONLY $2.99 AND I PAID $10 FOR IT LESS THAN A WEEK AGO!!!!! *computerflip*
-
That’s okay. It’s worth $10. You still did well.
-
I’ll just have to suppress my inner scrimp under a mountain of fuel dockets and coupon books. (In all seriousness, yeah I know I did well but $7 could get me one whole double quarter pounder by itself.)
-
Believe me, I know the impulse. I live on that impulse, and would be feeling equally annoyed if I were in your position.
Actually, I just found out that Sleeping Dogs, a game I paid $25 (or was it $15?) for about three months ago, is now free on XBLA Gold, and I’m weighing up the pros and cons of kicking myself.
-
Opportunity Cost: I vote for a pity sandwich.
-
Pros:
It’ll be funnyCons:
…
-
-
Or another 3 games
-
Yes exactly. The money that I save could be spent on more games. That’s how the entire Steam sales system works.
-
Tell me about it.
Just checked and including minor DLC I have 18 new items added to my account this sale -
27 for me and I don’t feel like I’ve bought THAT much…
-
I only added about 3-4 to mine.
Many gifts were purchased though. I think I gifted stuff to about 25 people. Only skipped a few because a) not friends or b) no entries on their wishlist.
-

Haven’t started what I was gifted yet but have heard it is good -

Get the MP mod and you sir have yourself an amazing time ahead.
-
Already indulged myself in that bit of shenanigans. Let’s just say that many a thing was crashed and we all played as Spiderman for a while.
Just got back from seeing Frozen. So damn good. Elsa and Anna are my new favourite Disney Princesses. Whoo feminism! I loved how the whole thing was basically a deconstruction of the older Disney films.
-
It’s like @dc can sense when Frozen is mentioned.
-
It made me feel things, okay? XD
-
My 6 year old cousin cried during it, so you’re not the only one.
-
My eyes may have “glazed” during a couple of scenes.
-
-
Terrible, terrible realization: Steam is a free to play game. The content on it is 100% microtransactions.
-
Haha, that is a brilliant way to put it.
-
Now that you put it like that, it is a game within a game. And then some of those games have mini-games inside of them.
That’s, like, soooo deep man.
-
Obligatory “we need to go deeper” comment.
Obligatory “that’s what she said” comment.-
That’s what she— oh.
-
-
Some of the content allows you to make other content.
-
It seems not many people are in the Danuary spirit. Time to change that!
On the second Dan of Danuary, my true Dan gave to me:
Two turtle Dans,
And a Dantridge in a Dan Tree.
-
I can’t decide who my true Dan is. I’m a real gent in that regard.
My version for @dkzeitgeist
On every day of Danuary, my true Dan gave to me:
Twelve Man of Steel hates
Eleven strong opinions
Ten wrong opinions
Nine innuendos
Eight veiled insults
Seven self-promotions
Six days of waiting
Five total gents
Four years of Zeitgeist
Three overshares
Two purple glans
And a cartridge instead of a CD.And my version for @dc
On every day of Danuary, my true Dan gave to me:
Twelve spoilered talks
Eleven good TV shows
Ten repetitions
Nine smiley faces
Eight hated buildings
Seven sub-species
Six rippling abs
Five awkward laughs
Four redacted postings
Three pirate jokes
Two Dark Souls put-downs
And an upvote for something silly.Edit: sorry @popdart5. I stole your idea and just Dan with it :\
-
The month of Dan does that to everyone my Dan-friend.
I’m feeling positively in-Dan-equate compared to your lyrical excellence.
-
I Danly Dan Danuary. I Danly do.
-
..I have no Danning idea what we’re Danking about Dany more.

Poor Gooky will be so disappointed 🙁
That said, it’s a pretty strong list this week.
Dear internet,
the ellipsis is not acceptable replacement punctuation for the comma or the full stop. Please stop using it wrong.
Regards,
NZ
-
NZ,
I’m not sure… I kind of thought that… maybe… an ellipsis could suffice… in the right circumstances… for any piece of punctuation… don…t you think… …
-
No.
-
…
-
Acceptable usage.
-
If it was unacceptable usage, you could imprison him for crimes against grammar and the English language.
[…]
-
Sigh. I wish.
-
I know, I’ve seen that around 20-two times recently
-
@tigerion
HAH, well played!
-
-
-
I use it however I want to. I like to type the way I talk, so I’ll constantly torture punctuation until it gives me what I want. There is no wrong, just different….
😛
-
Using one to indicate a trail-off at the end of a sentence is fine, if the sentence actually makes sense to be read that way.
Using them mid-sentence to indicate a break is what annoys me. That’s what a comma is for.
EDIT: Mid-sentence is okay if it’s indicating that words were removed, i.e. a quote.
I think that you … are … right ….
Well, you’re going to hate me, then…
EDIT: I didn’t even mean to put that ellipsis there.
I’m watching Justice League and Wonder Woman just had this exchange:
“With this, you’ll have to beat men off with a stick.”
“I don’t need a stick.”
That’s right. Diana is more than capable of beating men off.
-
Even without a stick?
So you are saying that Diana is capable of beating men off with her bare hands.-
I wasn’t saying that.
She was.Anyway, this is a show where Flash can’t get a second date because he’s the fastest man alive
-
You’d think he’d be able that, in the unlikely event that he’d tire, he could always use the Speed Force.
-
-
OMG.
Final Fantasy Type-0’s english fan translation guys are saying they should be done in the next three weeks!
Also apparently Valkyria Chronicles 3’s fan patch is out as well?!
I need to go find my old PSP!
Went and saw The Hobbit! Was pretty cool. I think I prefer the first one over this one though. Still, I enjoyed it.
Spoilers
The flowing liquid gold animation looked terrible though 😛 And I’m not usually a CGI snob!
The highlight of the movie came from the audience: wow, what a horrible audience. A teenager sat directly next to me and started eating a box of KFC 😛 And someone’s phone started ringing part way through (this was pretty funny, actually. The phone started ringing, the person answers it right when Bilbo says “Hello?” in the movie. Perfectly timed haha)
The best bit was a loud bogan guy who kept shouting things at the screen. Classic lines like “JUST FUCKEN KILL ‘IM” and “AW SHIT HE’S RICH”. Stunning commentary.
Still enjoyed the movie.
-
To expand on my comment from the other day, people are the worst thing about going to the movies.
-
Boo-urns! If you had’ve gone outside work hours I would’ve tagged along
-
I would’ve if I’d known! I had sour worms and everything!
Ah well.
-
Hey, my Steam fronds: in light of @Tigerion’s advice that the cards from this sale will be disappearing, please look through and see if I have any cards you need on your list for badge completion so I can give them to you before they turn into pumpkins. I’ve already completed the badge a few times over and do not really care to again.
-
I have 2x #9’s and a #10 if anyone wants. I’m never gonna complete, so might as well give em away.
-
I have a #5 and a #9 if anyone wants them.
-
Oh man, you guys and your trading. I was all greedy, selling my cards and buying Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons with the profits. 😀
-
I sold all my cards (not just sale ones) over the weekend and made about $9.
-
Me too, I made about $7. Only thing I bought the entire sale was with the profits of that, which blows my miiiiind.
-
I mentioned before that Civ V is a thing at 7:30 SA time tonight. Anyone who still wants in, it’s on sale atm.
@gutsoup! Where you at? I MISS YOU!
Just looked down to see my toes covered in blood. Seems I accidently tore a chunk out of one of my toes with the toenail of the one next to it. I wouldn’t have even known if I hadn’t chanced to look down.
-
Beware! Leper outcast unclean!
-
When I told my mum about it she told me that one of her friend’s father’s lost his toe this way. It became infected after he nicked it. Hopefully that doesn’t happen to me, though as I told my mum that would make a great pick up line. “Hey girls, want to see my missing toe?” Girls are into body horror, right?
-
Why do I draw?! D=
-
raisins?
-
STUPID RAISINS!
-
Now draw some raisins!
-
but, ugh.
-
I like raisins =(
-
Ever tried drawing them?
-
Too busy eating them.
-
-
-
So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.
-
What does this even mean?! =P
-
Yes!
-
No?
-
Maybe
-
Na Na na Na Na Na na Na na na na na na na na na…
-
I don’t get it. Sorry.
-
-
That almost seems like some kind of pun-like wordplay 😛
Been thinking of changing my gravatar for a while to something that’s not a wolf. Couldn’t think of anything until today. You may now call me Elsa (don’t call me Elsa*)
*Not unless you really, really want to.
-
Hi, Elsa.
Do you wanna build a snowman?
It’s like minecraft in the real word!
http://i.imgur.com/1gJ5VQZ.gif
-
I prefer fake words, like hablooloo and shurabla
So uh.. Apart from Lego Marvel & NFS Rivals, there’s nothing on the PS4 atm that I fancy. Damn it. Maybe I should’ve waited, oh well.
-
Don’t forget to grab the freebies! Warframes pretty good (for a free to play) and you can grab DC universe online as well. Also Resogun, Contrast, and soon to be Don’t Starve 🙂
-
Resogun is brilliant.
-
I really like Warframe. I have no idea how it would play on a console, but it’s pretty great on the PC. I left it alone for like… a year, after exhausting all the content with my founder pack, and my youngest brother has been hammering it hard and dragged me back to look at it for some co-op, during the holiday. So much has changed. So many extra layers. So much better UI.
-
It plays pretty well on console. It hasn’t been properly optimised %100, but it’s pretty good! I’m really enjoying it at any rate!
-
-
My foot fell asleep, and I can’t wake it up!
D:
TAY! HOW I’VE MISSED YOU! *hugs TAY*
-
Next week we might get a working link to it, perhaps even one that points to THIS year!
-
It was an honest mistake. I think.
-
See now that makes me suspicious, a regular mistake I could easily ignore but one claiming to be honest?
-
-
Oh look, bioshock infinite is back on sale today and magically the base price is now $100 again…
Brisbane folks. Tentative meat plans for Friday, 17th Jan! Dinner? Movie? Drinks? I don’t care. It’s my birthday on the 15th so this’ll be kind of for that, but not actually a birthday meat or any thing.
@sughly, @dkzeitgeist, @transientmind, @sernobulus, @strange, @virus__, @freezespreston, @popdart5, @lambomann007, @welbot, @jimu, @gutsoup, @beardymcmuttonchops
If it just ends up a couple of people informally seeing a movie too, I’m okay with that. Let me know if you’re keen. If it ends up like that? I recommend Her by Spike Jonze which opens that week.
Will you be in town yet, @rocketman for BDO?
@bdkiaf will be in town a couple of weeks later and we can do something then instead or as well or whatever. XD If nothing eventuates, that’s okay too. Got Big Day Out and Arcade Fire on that Sunday with Sughly and Rockets which will do just nicely. 😀
-
I’m up for dinner and/or drinks but not a movie. You don’t want me ruining it with my opposite tastes. 😛
-
Also, it took me forever to find this. The tab of this page I had open from last night came up with “Page Not Found”, and when I clicked on my profile off the main page, it still had that “1” notification in the top corner where my name is, but on the actual profile page it said I had zero comments and zero notifications. D:
-
Things have been very wonky with Kotaku the last couple days. 🙁
-
Also also, if you need me to organise the dinner I can do that. I’ll just need everyone’s approximate budgets, like small, medium or woohoo, I’m rich.
-
Holy damn, you’re so awesome Strange. So, so awesome. You know me. I’m not one to turn down someones offer to do the scary planning stuff but I would never impose. But if you wanted too, I… *shuffles feet* 😀 If it’s just dinner and people like Freeze are coming from the coast with no movie or any thing afterwards I’m thinking we should go somewhere cool/interesting/worth meating for food/drinks alone? What you guys think?
-
I wouldn’t offer if I wasn’t prepared to take it on. 🙂
I suggested a potentially interesting place just down the page, let me know what you think. -
Eh, if you guys all want to go see the movie myself and Bri will just go see another one.
-
Nah, it’s all good man. I really only suggested the movie in case it just ended up being me and Sughly and Dan or something. A scaleable meat that can be adjusted from awesome dinner to casual hang. Haha!
-
-
-
-
This is the first time I’ve been able to see this weeks TAY all week. Saturday :-s
Also, one day, couldn’t see Kotaku at all, all day from various devices.
This is a thing I want to do for DC birthday. Pick a time? I’ll need to move some other things around and can probably only fit a couple hours, but I’ve missed way too many meats in the last few months.
-
You awesome!
I’ll come to dinner but I could not be less interested in that movie.
-
Yeah, i’m not much a movie person, so i’ll pass on the movie too.
-
That’s cool! I’ll probably end up seeing the movie separately then. Maybe even earlier that day at South Bank Cineplex. XD
-
Count me in, I think…
Though saying that I think i’m meant to be seeing my mates on the 17th for exactly the same thing where another mates band is playing.
Sounds like most aren’t interested in movie so let’s just have dinner/drinks somewhere cool. Maybe Bavarian Bier Cafe or something without a ‘must leave before movie starts’ thing hovering over us like at the Star Trek meat? As for time my schedule’s wide open but if I had to be all decisive and articulate something… uh… 7pm-ish?
-
How about ‘Next Door’ in South Bank? http://www.nextdoorkitchenbar.com.au/menu/
We’d definitely have to book, though.
They have pretty awesome food and great drinks. If people share, it can be not too expensive, as well. Although why anyone would want to share their Gangster Chicken Wings is beyond me. 😀-
Oh wow, that looks awesome! I’m up for any thing! Do they have spring rolls? >:D
Beauty of planning meat so early is every one can have there say! If any one has suggestions or the like don’t feel like you’ve been shut out or any thing. Same goes about budget and all that. Speak up, my pals! I really just want to hang out with you folks and the more who can make it the better!
-
Their 500 Internal Server Error looks delicious.
Edit: now the site is working it does look pretty boss.
-
I’m up for stuff. Anything is good by me. 🙂
-
Get a few drinks in @freezespreston and he will be too.
-
The elusive Popdart will be there! DID YOU HEAR THAT GUYS?
If we can get @gutsoup to attend. D:
-
Hi, sorry I went Super Hermit for a couple of weeks there.
-
Sounds good I should be able to make it! Not sure about the movie though. Have never heard of it, so I assume it’s a movie for movie hipsters / snobs. XD
-
movie for movie hipsters / snobs
Yeah, @dkzeitgeist would enjoy it.
-
Easy there.
This is Spike Jonze we’re talking about here.
-
S’cool man, I’m a fan.
-
-
-
Joaquim Phoenix has a bit of a pedophile mustache going on in the movie, if that helps any.
-
I thought it looked like a heap of tedious, pretentious bullfwop and didn’t have any need to see it.
Then I read the synopsis for the plot on Wikipedia. Now I’m DEFINITELY not going to see it.
-
This is kind of why I don’t watch the shows you recommend. 😛
-
The plot synopsis was quite literally one of the most painful things I’ve ever had to read. Twilight with a computer.
-
Not that there’s anything wrong with you being into it. I just way too much emotional drama in my own life that I don’t need to introduce more. Movies and TV are a way for me to escape that.
-
-
why do all these meets keep happening before February?! Damn it! I’m honestly not sure if I’ll be able to make it to this one, as it’ll be right in the middle of one of my smallest pay fortnights all year thanks to the damn public holidays 🙁
Funny, I was just thinking this morning that it’d be great to go to a meat sometime.
…
But as per usual it’s on when I’m busy with other stuff.
So yeah, Lambo. Doesn’t. Meat. >:P
Sounds good DC! I don’t have anything planned.
Ohmagawsh, whats with all the Spike Jonze hate? Spike freakin Jonze!
-
I know, Sughly. I know. They’re all monsters! And not even the endearing Where the Wild Things Are-like monsters!
-
Fools, all of them.
I’m definitely keen for dinner!
And maybe movie!? WHO KNOWS, I’M A LOOSE CANNON!!!
There’s a board game called Suburbia that is getting some rave reviews right now.
As far as I can tell, it’s Sim City in board game form. Not the recent Sim City either, Sim City 2000 or one of the other ones that we all sunk a bajillion hours into.
Omikron mentioned that he was playing on Twitter last night, which made me want to try finding a copy. That did not go well.
Good Games said that it comes out in February (but I can buy the expansion, Suburbia Inc is available some time this month!). Games Paradise didn’t seem to understand that I was after a game called Suburbia. Even after I tried spelling it out, they thought I was saying Siberia. Which is apparently also a board game. They’ll make board games out of anything these days. What’s next? A game about making a fireworks display?
Anyhow, I’ve abandoned all hope of happiness for now.
More importantly, there are BOARD GAMES on tomorrow at 2pm. People should show up. There aren’t many of these left.
-
I’m going to my FLGS tonight and I was going to pick this up if they had it, I’ll let you know how I get on.
-
If they have a second copy for a reasonable price, you should probably tweet me so I can tell you to buy it and ship it my way.
-
Will do. What do we think reasonable is?
-
Seeing as it’s probably going to cost about $20 to send it to me, under $70? Admittedly, that’s never going to happen but it’s nice to dream.
-
Will have a look
-
-
-
-
FLGS = Favourite Local Game Seller? I wish we had a decent one of those around here.
-
Friendly Local Game Store.
Sometimes the label is applied ironically.
-
pretty much- Friendly Local Game Store is what it usually is but yours works. going in to draft Magic.
-
Has the site being stuffing up for anyone else? This is the first time it’s been working properly for me since last night.
-
Yes, yes it has.
-
Ah, good. I was worried it was my crappy internet for a second since one of the errors I’ve been getting is the pages stuck in loading.
-
Between this & steam being flakier than a dozen flakes, I was wondering if my ISP was having trouble. Glad its not my end

Someone linked me to this article earlier today: http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-truths-that-will-make-you-better-person/
It’s an interesting read and while I don’t actually agree with all of it, it raises some valid points.
-
Why do you say such mean things to me Strange 😛
-
Since we’re linking interesting articles, this was pretty great too!
http://www.buzzfeed.com/joeberkowitz/why-i-feel-okay-about-falling-off-the-wagon-after-years-of-s
There’s an incredible loneliness about being the sober one. You can be physically at the party, and still not really there.
This line particularly resonated with me…
This is why I put up with Buzzfeed, it’s mostly horrible lists and the gifs and the like, but occasionally you get stuff like this!
-
I read it and enjoyed it. But my isolation while in social situations has nothing to do with my level of inebriation 😛
-
Well that’s kind of what the guy says later on too. There was something that separated him even when he drank. I can relate, Shane. I can relate.
-
I’ve moved beyond that level to isolating myself from social situations
-
-
By the way, this is my interesting article.
http://www.makingcomics.com/2014/01/01/taste-vs-ability/
Really resonated with me, because I’ve been feeling this self-disappointment pretty strongly. A fairly predictable response to my books not making anyone’s Best of 2013 lists, I guess, not to mention my own immersion in fiction that I know is light years beyond mine in terms of quality.
-
I’ve always said: If you aren’t keenly aware of just how many amazing people on the planet are better than you, and if you aren’t filled with a boiling envy that makes you want to ritually slay them and eat their hearts so you can gain their power, then you probably aren’t a real artist.
…This will probably come back to haunt me in a court case at some point in the (hopefully) distant future.
-
Well, it’s good to know I’m not disqualified from the “real artist” title on those grounds 😛
-
-
-
When you’re a perennial sober party guest, some people eye you suspiciously. Not always, but it happens. Your unimpeded memory functions like a video recorder, capturing every potential embarrassment, and so serial misfits avoid you accordingly.
Hahaha, I know this one well.
-
-
Yes… I like this.
-
Specifically: “”But I’m not good at anything!” Well, I have good news — throw enough hours of repetition at it and you can get sort of good at anything. I was the world’s shittiest writer when I was an infant. I was only slightly better at 25. But while I was failing miserably at my career, I wrote in my spare time for eight straight years, an article a week, before I ever made real money off it. It took 13 years for me to get good enough to make the New York Times best-seller list. It took me probably 20,000 hours of practice to sand the edges off my sucking.”
-
TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY I missed you 🙁
Haven’t been able to get on all day. Then this happened. It was scary.
-
Play it cool, Shane. Play it cool.
I noticed it was gone. Some times. Maybe.
-
You’ve been sitting around for hours mashing f5 and slowly decending into madness, haven’t you?
-
You can’t descend any more into madness than I had already! 😛

Because every day of #Danuary should be celebrated, here’s a shameless repost.
___
My version for @dkzeitgeist
Once every 2.583 days of Danuary, my true Dan gave to me:
Twelve Man of Steel hates
Eleven strong opinions
Ten wrong opinions
Nine innuendos
Eight veiled insults
Seven self-promotions
Six days of waiting
Five total gents
Four years of Zeitgeist
Three overshares
Two purple glans
And a cartridge instead of a CD.
And my version for @dc
Once every 2.583 days of Danuary, my true Dan gave to me:
Twelve spoilered talks
Eleven good TV shows
Ten repetitions
Nine smiley faces
Eight hated buildings
Seven sub-species
Six rippling abs
Five awkward laughs
Four redacted postings
Three pirate jokes
Two Dark Souls put-downs
And an upvote for something silly.
Conceptualised by @popdart5. I stole the idea and just Dan with it :\
-
Looks like you need to ex-Dan-d it because, you know, there are 31 Dans in Danuary. 😛
-
…
Da
mn it.Edit: FIXED like a gent!

Like a Dan!

Still magic.
@DC, we’re now five episodes into The Newsroom. I feel like I’ve known these characters forever. This show is amazing – I personally prefer it to the West Wing, because the focus is so firmly upon the characters.
-
Yes! I think it’s every bit as good as The West Wing and from my experience that’s a controversial thing to say on the internet. I love the characters and the ambition and well realized setting. (I’ve said this before.) Season two fixes the flaws of season one as well and becomes even more character based!
-
dfjdsahaghfkjghagjfhgdflghasgkhg
-
Have you watched Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip? Another Sorkin show. This one only ran for one season, but it was a great season. Feels a tiny bit heavy handed in its themes just because the setting doesn’t lend itself to the weighty themes of West Wing or Newsroom, but every thing good about both those shows are here too.
-
No, haven’t seen that one.
-
It’s pretty good and Sorkin deals with his substance abuse problems through the perspective of the characters. It’s set behind-the-scenes of a Saturday Night Live type show.
-
-
-
-
I went out and celebrated my Aaron Sorkin (re)conversion today by buying the very first BluRay for our collection: A Few Good Men.
-
I’ll have to watch that! I notice it’s on Foxtel this weekend. Until you told me, I had no idea that was Sorkin. Social Network is also pretty great!
-
Social Network was okay. A Few Good Men is simply amazing. So iconic. One of my top ten films ever, for sure. Might even edge up into the top five from time to time.
-
I think The Social Network is better, mainly because A Few Good Men really has no suspense. Tom Cruise’s character works out what he’s going to do, tells you what he’s going to do, and…does it.
-
I disagree with your assessment.
-
I think that’s almost the beauty of Sorkin, you can be a fan of his works even if you take something different away from what he writes or have different expectations. 😀
-
-
To be fair, that’s only a controversial statement because it’s wrong.
I Kid, I kid 😛
-
I feel like the balance of The West Wing was a lot more even in writing. I’ll give you that! 😛
-
But… West Wing seasons 5-7 😛
-
Haha! I actually liked those seasons too. (I think it’s cause I liked John Wells’ tone from ER which basically was what The West Wing became. Nothing fancy or eloquent, just solid and realistic.)
-
I liked them too. But just liked.
Even before I realised that Sorkin wasn’t at the helm anymore, it just didn’t feel the same. 🙁 -
That is true! Can’t argue with that!
Sorkin has a kind of poetry to his writing. (Oh God, that’s so wanky of me to say. Haha!)
-
I haven’t seen the West Wing. I saw some ads and didn’t care for it. Plus I’m incredibly averse to the whole American thing about deifying their head of state.
-
Yeah, you should watch the Newsroom. Top-level writing with none of the annoying over-the-top patriotism.
I’m not so much a fan of the character focus, m’self.
I like watching the inner workings of things. Gruen, satirical views like the Hollowmen, or dramatised version of the Newsroom. That stuff I like.
But the character interactions are kind of hit and miss for me.
I like the characters themselves, especially someone like Don, but when it starts becoming X and Y, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, I start to tune out.
-
I turn to TV for life lessons, to teach me how to live and what to value, so my priorities are slightly different. For my part, the issues and behind-the-scenes machinations are icing on the character cake!
So interesting all the different baggage we bring to our media, and the very different ways in which we all consume it!
-
Well, my withered, black heart doesn’t understand human emotion, so all these love shenanigans tire and bore me.
-
Love shenanigans often bore me too. It’s the other character stuff I dig, how people respond to situations, and how they learn and grow from their triumphs and failures.
-
That sounds disgustingly uplifting.
-
If it makes you feel any better, I think the some of the best characters are the ones who don’t learn, who never really grow, who ignore constant second chances and opportunities to reform, and who create a whirlwind of devastation and destruction around themselves.
Characters like Tony Soprano, Vic Mackey, Don Draper, etc.
-
Based on that description you should watch Girls. Many of the characters are like that.
-
>_>
-
-
The moment of truth is fast approaching: I’ve spent the TAYless day putting together a detailed business plan/pitch to my publisher for this Kickstarter campaign I’ve been toying with for a while.
… it runs 50 pages, and almost 8000 words. Guess I erred on the side of detail.
Because I have no TV shows to watch and too much free time, I’ve started watching Mad Men. So many people from LA Noire!
Also I didn’t mind the first episode. Think I’ll keep watching.
-
It’s a great show. The first half of season 7 starts soon! The second half of season 7 comes out in 2015.
I don’t get it either.
Great show, though. -
Pretty sure someone played LA Noire and was all “Man… some of these guys would look great in a show together.” and so Mad Men was created.
Given I don’t think we’ve had the convo here:
SHERLOCK S3:
That’ll do, Moffat/Gatiss. That’ll do.
-
I… don’t know why I clicked on that. I haven’t seen the episode yet!
Thanks for not actually spoiling anything -
I liked it!
47 Ronin. Where everyone but the main character is Japanese.
-
There’s an interesting story behind that.
-
Shame they had to make the interesting story into a film.
-
I like Japanese mythology. Actually, I like mythology.
Like the ghost story, I’ll spoiler it.The samurai and the ghost
A samurai was walking along a road when he saw a naked man in front of him.
‘Hey, what are you doing?!’
At this point the man turned and around and spread apart his butt cheeks to reveal a single eye where the anus should be.
And that’s where the story ends.-
The 47 Ronin were real actual dudes though.
And they didn’t have eyes in their anuses. -
I am inclined to believe you. So they’ve massacred history.
-
Summary:
One dude pissed off this other dude so they called each other names and the first dude got disnhonored so he killed himself and the 47 dudes that served him were like WTF? and then they killed the other guy in revenge after plotting for ages, and then all suicided as well because that’s what you do.
-

Hiroyuki Sanada was originally the main star of the movie. Keanu Reeves character was mostly there because lets be honest, the studio isn’t going to fund a $175 million picture with international stars, but didn’t have much screen time.
The film was originally more of a drama (think The Last Samurai) and the studio didn’t want that. They wanted “Pirates of the Caribbean”. So, the director was locked out of the editing room, they reshot the entire climax and inserted Reeves character (who originally wasn’t even part of it) and added a romantic sub plot for him as well as a few other bits to increase his screen time.
This happened back in September 2012 and the film which was originally set for a pre-Thanksgiving release 2012, was pushed to Feb 2013 before being set again to Christmas 2013.
-
Anyway I can see the proper film?
-
Will probably never see the light of day outside the test screenings it had back in May 2012.
-
Fuck.
-
It draws inspiration from classics such as Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai, and that white guy in Fast and the Furious 3.
Apparently the idea of Reeves is that he isn’t really a character but more a vehicle for a western audience to see into the Japanese story.
Or so I’ve heard.
Also Keanu Reeves doesn’t really have a race. His parents and his grand parents are all half breeds of various races.
Also he was born in Beirut, Lebanon.
The guys a freaking melting pot of various DNA.
-
I guess Keanu’s white in the same way that Obama is black? I’m not sure how people decide these things, but I won’t try to tell a man what to call himself.
As a mongrel myself (admittedly a mostly white mongrel – Scottish, and a bunch of all those Nordic/Germanic countries), I know I kind of just latch on to whichever has the strongest strain – that being Scottish – for some sort of genealogical identity, but it’s very interesting how much that might change in our increasingly global village.
Kind of a benefit to being Australian. If you’re from here, you’re Aussie. All there is to it.
And the funny thing about having a history is that it kind of happens to you naturally – all it takes is time.
Carted my SNES and 64 around to Wingman’s place last night, and we stayed up playing old games on a gigantic rear-projection TV her brother found. 46″, 4:3 screen. It was amazing.
Old games are the best.
-
Also it seems that as rad as the replacement sticks for the 64 controllers are, they’re not entirely the best for Smash Bros. You kind of need to slow yourself down a bit for them to work properly. Gotta dig out one of the unmodified ones to test against, but I’m pretty sure those ones would be fine with higher speeds.
-
I thought you would have put a promise ring inside a cartridge and asked wingman to go steady.
🙂
-
We’re already married as far as AIE canon is concerned.
-
Boff-buddies! Should give it a shot.

Better than rolling around on the floor with Pillowmaker?

It’s SNES. And 64.
Um, hell yeah.

Still can’t believe you wouldn’t let me stow away in one of your suitcases.

Have an awesome time, Blaghs! *hug*

Have fun where ever your journey is taking you.. Overseas I assume..?
So i beat the wonderful 101 last night.
seriously, if i hadn’t finished it in 2014, it would have been my favourite game of last year. It has the best finale in a game i’ve ever seen, if you have a Wii U and like action games and things that are over-the-top, seriously play it, it’s brilliant.
to those that have finished it, all i can say is…
FINAL ULTIMATE LEGENDARY EARTH POWER
SUPER MAX JUSTICE FUTURE MIRACLE DREAM
BEAUTIFUL GALAXY BIG BANG LITTLE BANG
SUNRISE STARLIGHT INFINITE FABULOUS
TOTALLY FINAL WONDERFUL ARROW FIRE!!!!!!!!!
For kicks, I reinstalled RollerCoaster Tycoon.
I still can’t get back to the Main Menu whenever I click “Quit Game”.
:\
Still fun to make a Shuttle Loop Coaster that launches at full speed and doesn’t take off without a full load of passengers. 😀
*floorboards creak*
…hello? Is anyone here?
-
Me! o/
-
Maybe, who’s asking?
-
The floorboards?
Why else would they creak?
-
-
I’m almost always lurking.
-
…no.
I didn’t know what to eat. So fruit loops it is

Cereal is good.
Is murdering noisy children still against the law?
-
I’m afraid so.
-
So long as they’re disposed of humanely, it should be fine. Check with your local authorities first though.
-
Which bin should they go in? General rubbish I suppose
-
*reminds self to never invite Aleph over again* 😛
-
Hey, he said ‘check with the authorities first’!
-
-
-
Children can’t help being noisy.
-
This much I have noticed. It’s kind of good in a way, for all the irritation it provides, it’s a regular reinforcement of my lifelong pledge to never procreate
-
Haha! I’ve actually had a change of heart on that lately. I’ve decided I’d probably like to have at least one kid some day. Seeing people like Freeze, Sughly and Strange with their kids is awesome. My cold, black heart has warmed. 😀
-
My cold black heart was forged into a lovely sparkly diamond of pure hate over the first 21 years of my life. Mum did home based child care as her job so I was surrounded by 3-5 children aged 0-5 for 40+ hours a week. That sort of thing really robs the concept of producing children of any of the mystique it might have had…
-
-
If you feel irritated, imagine how irritating it would be for the parents.
It’s been super-duper hot today so I’ve had even less tolerance than usual for my 4yo running around singing “Jingle Bells” at the top of his lungs and telling me I wasn’t allowed to say ‘Jingle Bells’ isn’t a beautiful song. 😛
-
What’s needed is some sort of intelligent noise cancelling ear implant that automatically filters out certain background child noise but lets in important stuff so you can ignore most of the noise but still hear if they get attacked by a robot shark
-
-
Sometimes I wish I had trouble keeping such goals.
-
-
Hmm. Hori N64 controllers aren’t the most comfortable things. Also takes a little getting used to with the shoulder buttons. Control stick feels weird, being so large. Works well though.
I feel very much to be in a retro gaming mood.
-
The N64 being classed as retro is somewhat depressing.
-
Oh come on, the PS3 is retro now!
-
N64 covered the end of primary school/start of high school for me, so it kinda feels like it should be Retro.
GameCube being retro is a weird thought that does not sit right with me at all.
-
N64 was when I finished high school. Which wasn’t that long ago I swear.
-
-
My mother has decided to seek a divorce from my dad and despite thinking “about time” I really don’t know how to feel about it. I mean I’m 30 years old and it shouldn’t affect me but it is for some reason.
-
Even if it’s a good thing, it’s still changing what was a fundamental part of your identity. I suspect its probably okay to be a bit affected.
-
I think that kind of thing is always going to be a shock to the system. Change on that scale will always affect you. They’ve been together for your whole life, so it’s natural to feel some kind of instability, you’re old enough to recognise it now though, which is I guess a good thing about the situation. Better now when you can process it, than when you were a kid and would probably have felt overwhelmingly like your whole world was crumbling.
Anyway…*hugasaurus*.
-
I fully get that. My parents have been going through a separation for the past few years (it’s finalised now), and I also feel the whole “about time” thing. At the same time though I do feel something about it, I’m just not sure what. It’s like a feeling of emptiness and nothing, but also not that. The best way I can think to describe it is like when your hand or foot or whatever falls asleep and you feel that it’s asleep but you don’t feel any pain or discomfort or hot or cold or anything from it, but you’re still aware of it.
Because of all that it’s really hard to know how you’re suppose to react or deal with it. You can confront things like sadness and anger, but you can’t really confront this. All you can do is acknowledge it, and because that’s all you can do it can lead to feelings of frustration. Frustration that in turn you can’t really do anything about because you can’t confront the cause of it.
-
I think you kind of nailed it there.
-
-
Sorry to hear that. My parents went through a very… painful separation a few years ago. Court cases, restraining orders, manipulation by both parents, mental scars that will probably never go away, the whole gaffe. Your position is very different, as you are an adult and I was a teenager… but yeah, I still understand the position you are in. Separated Parents Buddies! :/
I don’t know why I felt the need to write that, as I can’t offer any advice or provide any real support, let alone cheer you up. Hey, maybe you’ll indulge in a little schadenfreude.
-
Shit, sounds like you got the raw end of the stick there. :/
-
-
If they’ve been together for a while, I can see that being pretty damn different.
My folks split up after about 35yrs of marriage. I was settling down into a more productive and socially-acceptable worklife at the time. Had a bit of experience under my belt. But nowhere near as much as now… the sad thing is as time goes by and I’ve seen more and learn more, I actually realize that the warning signs were there, and what they could’ve done to patch things up. He basically needed to ‘game’ her, and be more available instead of so obsessed with work, as she hit her mid-life crisis and she needed some more realistic expectations when wondering if she could do better. Neither party came out very well, but at least they kept us – the kids – out of it.
Mostly.
I think my youngest brother was probably most affected, because he was still living with them at the time, finishing up high-school. The middle one and I… well. We figured that romance is kind of two peoples’ business and no-one else’s. They’re still our parents, we still love them and care about what happens to them, but when it comes to romance, that’s their business. They’ve both moved on since, and the experience was a catalyst to actually talking and relating a lot more to each. You always have that moment of realization as a kid when you discover your parents are fallible, and in the same vein: a divorce can be one hell of a humbling thing, really reinforcing their ‘human’ sides. (It can be kind of weird, also, to realize you have years more dating experience than your folks do, if they married young. And those were different – less openly-promiscuous – times in their day.)
So… I dunno. If they avoid the ‘taking sides’ and ‘messy settlement’ business, maybe you’ll get to know them better. Your mileage may vary. :/
Fun times.
-
I watched the whole thing.
I kind of wish there was a CRPG where you have an “irish” skill.
Okay I need some help from some audio folk. I’m working on a system to simplify my present system which is both overcomplicated and bloody annoying since it involves wearing 2 sets of headsets so I can send my voice to 2 places at once.
I’m trying to find a device that will let me plug in my headset’s 3.5mm (possibly through an adapter but ideally not) and then have 2 or more outputs I can run into the 3.5mm mic inputs of my separate recording & VOIP systems. What I’m considering at the moment is a Behringer HA400 headphone preamp on the theory that it could take the input from my mic and then the headphone outputs could be plugged into the mic in of the other machines, possibly playing with the gain until I get a decent balance.
Does anyone have any better suggestions (not involving a y splitter cable since they tend to be total shite)?
-
Would the Behringer thing be able to do that? I could be wrong but I don’t really imagine they’d send a signal to line in ports.
What are the devices you want to send the signal to exactly? I might be able to help tomorrow when I get back to Hobart, but it’s a) not going to be incredibly cheap, and b) I’m not sure if it’ll work with standard microphones cos the thing I’m thinking of is made for dynamic mics with XLR connections, but we’ll see 😛
-
I’ve got no idea what I’m doing really, i just wanted to plug my decent headset mic into both my pc and xbox controller adapter so I don’t have to use 2 headsets when recording a session. The controller adapter takes sound from my phone’s headphone out jack and sounds reasonable so I was assuming any headphone out would do the same job with the added bonus of being able to tweak the gain manually
-
-
I don’t think I entirely understand…
Are you playing Xbox and recording on your PC, or are you playing on PC with an Xbox controller?
If it’s a console, try for a capture card (I don’t use them, nor do I know much about them, though @mjhellscream and @fatshady do, and possibly others, too. They may be able to help you).At a glance, a physical line-level splitter will either run you hundreds of dollars for enthusiast-grade wares, or $20 for a Y-cable at the needed 3.5mm size, although that doesn’t give you any control over output levels.
Perhaps a combo of a Y-splitter on the source, with a small headphone amp or line-level booster after the split to boost the recorded signal?
Try this perhaps.
While the site is no-frills, I bought a phono preamp from there a while back, and the quality is fantastic. Far cheaper than alternatives, too!-
@beardy.

-
@aliasalpha I use an Elgato Game Capture HD card, with an external USB Rock Band microphone to record our stuff. Because it’s a ‘two dudes on a couch’ kind of thing, headsets didn’t really work.
The Game Capture HD card set me back almost $200, but it’s worth it. It’s pretty much hassle free, and the software does the sound editing for me. It reduces game sound when we’re speaking, which is perfect.
-
My recording mate is using an elgato (the external one), I’m capturing with an avermedia live gamer portable. The problem is that we need to communicate and the options for that are Skype or xbox live chat. In the former case I could record chat audio perfectly well but I’d need a device in the middle to accept the sound output from the computer and merge it with the output from my TV in my headphones so I could hear it. In the latter case I need a device to split the microphone output from my headset into a pair so one can go into the new controller adapter and the other can go into the PC for recording, it’s that or continue to wear 2 headsets which is bloody inconvenient.
From what I understand of the elgato it merges any chat audio into the audio mix of the video, that’s kind of the opposite of what we’re after, just for the sake of clarity we sometimes shift, delete or amplify some chat so we’re not talking over each other and having it mixed with game sound would make that basically impossible. Also the LGP can’t do it so it’s somewhat academic
-
The Elgato is not the best if you want complete control over audio. Definitely not. I just use it because it’s easy in our situation. Definitely sounds like it wouldn’t suit yours unfortunately. I’ve only ever recorded Let’s Plays while sitting on the couch with a mate.

Hm, I think I may have to buy a new wacom at some point. Might wait until I completely wear this nib down though.
-
Presumably putting the stylus in a pencil sharpener doesn’t work as well as it does for actual pencils
-
Yeah, the stylus has a special nib which you can replace but I’ve no idea how.
-
There’s bound to be a tutorial on youtube
-
Go to the official wacom site. I’m sure they’ll have something under support. Though last time I was there when I was researching the one I bought my sister their website was kinda tricky to use.
Looked very pretty but hard to find anything useful. That’s what happens when you leave artists in charge of things I guess.
No reason to buy a whole new one just because your pen nib is wearing out. Buying a new one because of all the newfangled dewhickies it has, however, is a good reason.
-
I would like to upgrade.
-
-
-
-
What model are you using?
Bamboo, Intuos, Cintiq?-
Bamboo fun. Bought it years ago. =P
-
You could try buying some line trimmer cord and cutting it to size with pliers.
You can also you the pliers to gently remove the nib.

I think Multi-TAY needs some RTS love.
Therefore, MultiTAY will be on Wednesday night at 8:30, and will be focussed on Company of Heroes 2!
-
AOE2!
-
If you mean HD, I don’t have it.
I’d rather Company of Heroes 2.

(spoilered for large wall of text)
Processor: AMD FX-8350 ($199.99). It has 8 cores, and runs at 4.0 GHz, faster than any intel one I’ve seen on the market (the i7 appears to run at 3.8). Not sure if to get a dedicated fan, people have said it overheats, but they were overclocking and I’m not planning to. Any insights?
Motherboard: ASRock 770i Cafe (54.99). Full ATX, has graphics, sound, wi-fi.
Case: Cooler Master SGC-2100-WWN1 (109.99). Looks cool, and is a full ATX. Also apparently has good cooling, but it’s a cooler master, so I don’t know what people expected.
Monitor: Asus VH238H (159.99). Full HD 23″ screen. Cheap as well.
Graphics: Nvidia MSI N770 TF 2GDS/OC (399.99). Does well in benchmark tests, but if there’s a better AMD one that’s been released recently I would love to know!
Hard Drive: Seagate ST320005N4A1AS-RK (109.99) 2TB!
Optical Drive: LG Electronics UH12NS3O (49.99) Blu-Ray drive. Have a link for free playing software.
Power: Seasonic X650 Gold (SS-650KM Active PFC F3) (139.99) I did the calculations and allowed room for another 100 Volts.
RAM: Not sure how much I need. $39 per 4GB stick, so it would be $78 for 8GB, $117 for 12GB and $156 for 16GB.
Keyboard: Microsoft SIDEWINDER X4 (49.99). Cheap gaming keyboard.
Mouse: Razer Naga 2014 (79.99). Who knew mice could have these many buttons! BUTTONS!
OS: Did have it down for Windows 7, at $119.99, but I might just get SteamOS. Free!
Total: $1471.90 with no Windows 7, and 12 GB of RAM.
Question: Do I need a sound card? A friend told me that he was unable to download games on his old computer because it didn’t have a sound card. Is that possible?
Thanks in advance.
-
Only if you’re using more than 2 speakers.
When I built mine, I only used the green audio input on the motherboard.
If you have a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup, you’ll need a new audio card.-
So if I use headphones I’ll be fine?
-
If you have headphones, or a 2.0/2.1 speaker setup, you should be able to connect to the motherboard.
That should work fine. -
If you use headphones get a good quality 7.1 set that’ll be usb
-
-
This is not technically correct. I have onboard sound on my mobo, and I use a 5.1 setup. It all depends on what kind of sound options your board has. I have 6 plugs on my sound. I use green black and orange for my setup. (green for front, black for rear and orange for sub/centre.
-
Thanks for clarifying. 🙂
-
🙂 always welcome sire!

Similar to what @welbot built for me with my inexpert eye but you have a better processor, bit more RAM and I’ve got 3x 2Tb drives, a 120Gb SSD and running on a 46″ HDTV. About the same price too.
What I’ve got hasn’t blinked once at anything I’ve thrown at it.
-
I’ve just posted a response, although it’s gone into moderation… uhm, check http://www.pccasegear.com/sc/ky7 for a quick mockup of similarly specced and Australian-sourced PC. Further suggestions and such incoming once I’m out of mod-purgatory 🙂
-
It is entirely possible to download games without having any sound at all. The benefit you get from having a sound card, is that usually they have more options for providing a better environmental effect (like echos and stuff – think soundblaster EAX stuff), and also the soundcard does the processing of the sound which takes the load off your cpu. These days it doesn’t make a HUGE difference due to cpu’s being so fast, but things will run a touch smoother if you have one. I grew up in the era of needing a sound card to get anything more than beeps out of your computer, and until the computer I have now, I’ve always had one, but when I got this one (quite a few years ago now) I didn’t have the money to splurge on a soundcard, but I honestly don’t notice much difference. Sure if I put ti side by side with a soundcard system you might hear things a little differently, but unless you know what to listen for, you’re not going to feel like you’re missing out on anything if you don’t get one.
-
Better off with an Intel CPU unless you really want AMD. You can only compare processors clock speeds inside the same architecture. While they’re clocked higher, AMD are a lot less powerful. The single-thread performance (which is what you want for games) on even a high-end current i5 will absolutely smoke the one you’ve selected (we’re talking a 50% difference even). AMD stuff is really only going to pull ahead on significantly multi-threaded stuff, like if you wanted to make a cheap rendering workstation for 3D work or something. i5 4670K runs a lot less hot as well (84W vs 120W TDP)
Check here for some really good parts lists for solid games PCs at various price ranges:

Feels like time to play through Super Metroid again.
I’m not sure I’ve even done it more than the once.
Newegg prices aren’t going to reflect well on Australia-sourced items (and unfortunately Newegg doesn’t ship to Aus), so that will increase the overall cost from the get-go.
I sourced all my components from pccasegear, although staticice dot com dot au is a fantastic resource for Australia-specific pricing.
Never heard of games not playing nice with a lack of soundcard. They’re hardly an essential item, and considering most mobos come with both integrated graphics and OKish sound, you’d only want to get one if the rest of your audio equipment could benefit from it.
Out of curiosity, what speakers/headphones will you be using with the rig?
Regardless of OCing your CPU, if you’re going to be stressing it with videogames, cooling can’t hurt. I’m not entirely familiar with AMD units, though the Intel coolers are sufficient for basic tasks. Look into getting something with a bigger fan that spins slower to decrease noise production at the very least.
HDD is solid, have you considered a dedicated SSD for your OS? It’s not really necessary, though you’ll certainly notice the difference in boot times should you go down this path. 120GB SSDs are fairly commonplace and not too expensive these days.
May be able to get away without the optical drive (unless of course you’ve got a dvd/bluray collection, of course), especially with SteamOS etc, which has me thinking… if you’re happy with skipping on Microsoft, if you were to go with an AMD GPU you can’t run SteamOS just yet, though perhaps Ubuntu could work for you. Free, and can be installed from a flash drive.
You should be able to save some money by getting a different mouse, unless you’re sure you’ll be able to utilize all the programmable buttons. Personally, I made the mistake of buying a fancy looking mouse with programmable buttons and macros, only to realise that I just plain don’t use half the buttons there. Again, if you think you’ll use it regularly and to its potential then yeah, go for it. I’ve an aversion to Razer gear, although perhaps someone else may be better suited to help you here.
If you’re gaming, (especially with that mouse) I’m assuming you’re not going to be sticking to turn-based games, which means that you’ll want low latency. Consider a different motherboard, as it may be money better spent elsewhere by eliminating the wifi capabilities.
Regarding your screen, you’re looking at around $180-200 for 23-24″ at pccasegear. Is desk space/screen size a concern for you? I’ve recently bought a 27″ off ebay from South Korea, and it’s fabulous. $330 shipped, 2560×1440 resolution, which the GPU shouldn’t find too taxing either. Again, this is entirely up to you.
I’ve gone slightly over budget, although here’s a quick priceup of a similar spec PC for you to consider.
I’ve added an SSD and gone with an AMD GPU, which means SteamOS is unavailable, though Ubuntu and the like should play nice.
I’ve also bolstered the keyboard to the Steelseries 6Gv2, which will put up with years of abuse. That and the mouse are fairly barebones, although they do what they’re made for, without gimmick. The mouse is slightly cheaper, although the difference has gone back into the keyboard. There’s $18 difference between the two sets.
All up it’ll cost $1900 plus shipping should you go for a screen from Ebay Check for the Yamakasi Catleap (these have risen in popularity – and as such, price – in recent times) or the QNIX QX2710 if you’re interested. Also head over to 120hz.biz for more info on these monitors or at a minimum $1622 (plus shipping) if you set aside the SSD and go with your preferred K&M combo.
Again, there’s other retailers available, and I’ll almost guarantee that you’ll find better prices on staticice, though PCCG has served me well with regard to finding everything in the one place. It’s just convenient.
Hope this helps!
-Edit in hopes of evasion-magicks
-Edit #2 Oh crap I forgot CPU cooler. Add another $30-40 for a decent one. $90 if you want an amazing one. More if you want liquid cooling (hardly necessary and high maintenance. I’m too scared to do it, though @ynefel may be able to help you there.)
-Edit #3 I forgot to include the price of an optical drive. There’s another $90-100 or so. Sorry, it’s midnight and I’ve been drinking and that’s no excuse but that’s all I’ve got.
-
Hmmm, @jajabinks2 replyfail
-
Thanks!
I’ll probably use turtle beach/some other brand of gaming headphones (not entirely sure yet).
I don’t quite understand what you’re saying about the motherboard. Won’t I need wi-fi to connect to the internet and play games online etc? Or am I missing something?
I’ve had a look at the link, and it looks good. I’ve bookmarked it.
Thanks for all your help!-
As for wifi, an ethernet cable (typically blue) direct from your modem/router will provide a far faster and more reliable connection.
-
That sounds good, except the router is in the living room and the PC’s being built in another room, so I can’t really connect it, unless you know some magical way to do it? Like a booster in the room or something?
-
Your best bet is going to be a direct link, although of course do what’s most convenient for you. I live in a high set house with wooden floorboards, so we’ve just drilled holes in the floor to route the necessary cables…
Not exactly feasible in every instance though :S
-
-
-
i may be a bit of a disgruntled customer, but i bought a pair of turtle beach headphones that fell apart… i don’t trust them anymore, i can reccomend plantronics headsets though.
-
I think I remember seeing you say that in a previous TAY, and I wasn’t going to get them, I had just been looking at them though. I’ll look into those plantronics though.
Thanks. -
I’ve steered clear of the headset route opting for quality headphones and a webcam with inbuilt mic. I don’t know what it sounds like on the receiving end, though at least I don’t have something in my face whilst I’m playing 😛
-
-
I made the mistake of mentioning to my husband how he should probably replace his old clock/radio alarm clock (that was ugly and made interference noises when near his phone) with something a tad more modern like an alarm clock with a dock for his iphone. He had some gift cards he didn’t know what to do with so he bought one a couple of days ago.
The thing has 3 “dimmer” settings and even the dimmest one is superbright. For something that’s supposed to be an alarm clock it sure as hell is a lot like a nightlight or a lamp. But hey, it doesn’t make any interferencey noises. 😛
So yeah, the heat coupled with the unusually bright room is making this my second night in a row of struggling to get some sleep. Not exactly sure what to say to Mr. Strange about this in the morning considering it was my idea to “upgrade” the stoopid thing in the first place.
-
Semi-opaque plastic sheet over the display?
Or just completely cover it if you’re only using it for the alarm function 😛 -
I’m thinking something along the lines of, “I know you wanted some autonomy with this, but I can’t handle this, please take it back and get a different one.”
(Store should accept it – there’s no way to know how bright it’s going to be in the shopping environment.) -
Have you checked the manual/website just in case it defaults to a nightlight mode?
If there is nothing there then just change it.
He’ll do it but I think he’ll be sharing this story with his friends for the next few years 🙂
-
Just admit you were wrong and tell him…. Oh wait. You’re his wife. Sorry. Forgot.
Just glare at him and keep giving him the cold shoulder without any explanation.
😛
-
Glares and cold shoulders? That sounds more like his area. 😛
-
…that’s the time? Really?
-
Nope.
-
That’s a relief.
-
-
God, I know, right? By the time you’re done with gaming and gym and watching a movie or two and dinner and cleaning up and another bit of TV and maybe another quick gaming session, it’s like… morning already!
So I added a little over 1km to my jogging route tonight. as I decided I was doing my old route too easy. Tonight was the first time I’ve ever really felt that indolphins thingy gym junkies are always going on about.
I used to be much more fit and run much further and I’m sure I’ve pushed myself much harder in the past but this the first time I’ve ever felt a cool good feeling wave go though my body when going past the “I’m lazy and I want to quit” moment. Someone letting the dolphins indoors is the only thing that makes sense to me. I wonder why It’s never happened before.
Maybe it was a psychological trigger because it happened just after my running app said I’d reached my goal (it was measuring my old route.) I’d like to say it was the magic trick and then i ran all night but though it felt nice it didn’t really stop my legs feeling like jelly and I slowed to a walk about 300m later. Jogging the entire length of the new rout is something I’ll work on over the next week or so.
PS: A small spider landed on my glasses. It didn’t seem so small whilst it was on my glasses.
-
Endorphins? 🙂
Although, indoor dolphins sound cool.
Jokes aside, congratulations on pushing past your old goal.
-
yes, endorphins.
The spider would’ve made me run faster…or stop completely.
-
I watched Silver Linings Playbook last night. Actually pretty good 😛 I don’t normally like Bradley Cooper. (@dc)
Also watched Reservoir Dogs too. Hm… Not as good as I was hoping for. A couple of scenes were great but overall wasn’t really feeling it. Still, not bad.
-
That’s the thing, Pow. I hate Bradley Cooper. That movie turned things around. 😀
-
I wasn’t interested in American Hustle because he was in it. Might have to reconsider now 😛
-
Tis a tad warm today.. I guess it is summer or something to that effect.
-
-36 degree wind chill here today.
-
Quebec? I hear it was a tad nippy there yesterday… It’s only 36 degrees here currently, I believe that to be a lie though.
-
I have fibreglassed my Spess Mehren helmet. It’s all like “yeah I’m rock solid bro, stick your head in me” (BOOM). Bondo the outside and I can start wiring it up for fans and lighting.
Also, I need to buy a helllll of a lot more fibreglass resin.
England 6/90.
Life is good.
Is anyone good with sound card inputs?
I received my new card, and I can only get two speakers working. 🙁
-
What sort of card? There might be a control panel setting you need to tick to enable 5.1 since they often re-use microphone & line in for front & rear speaker outs
-
Asus Xonar DG PCI 5.1 Audio Card.
-
Aleph’s Rust review:
Hit a tree with a rock.
Chased a pig.
Mauled by something after dark.
I give it 4.
-
But that’s like…a 9/10 to other reviewers! 😛
*stumbles in*
Uh.. This isn’t where I parked my car.
*stumbles out*
God dammit. My headphones are screwing up in a weird way. Only first noticed it yesterday, where the sound seemed kind of garbled, but thought it was just the video having weird sound. When I listened to the youtube rap song video, I wasn’t getting any of the lyrics, just a weird faint echo of it. But opening up the audio manager and panning all the sound to the left or right, I could hear everything again. Or with the Boogie video, no audio at all while sound was centred. But then I got voice if I panned all the way to the side. But the weird thing is that the sound is still coming through both speakers, not just one or the other :/
Tried unplugging and plugging back in, but it’s not the connection there. The whole cable hardly even moves when I pick them up to put them on, there’s practically no flexing at all at the point where it connects to the headphones, where the fault seems to be. WHY DO THINGS BREAK FOR NO REASON.
-
Can you alter the sound production by physically manipulating the cans/cable? I’d be looking at the software if that’s not the case, considering the drivers are still reproducing sound when you pan the signal etc.
Try your headphones in another device, too. I don’t think they’re busted.
-
If I twist and wrench the cable around where it joins the headphones, there’s a teeny tiny spot where it does pop back to sounding proper. But it’s incredibly hard to find and even harder to hold.
-
Money can buy the fuck out of happiness. Anyone who tells you otherwise has a small penis, because people with a small penis say weird shit.
Best quote I’ve heard all day.
-
Man, I say so much weird shit, so I guess it’s accurate.
So, Sid has been limping for 3 days. I am trying to stop him from doing things that will make it worse. He is of course ignoring me and making it worse.
I have decided, if he doesn’t care about it, then neither do I.
Aaaaand Super Metroid’s done. Huh, 6:38 apparently. And yet I’m pretty sure I was playing it for a good eight hours last night, let alone with the last three or so just now.
Also, I totally screwed up that play. Ended up breaking the order of things massively, and ended up finishing it without the grapple beam, spring ball or exploring half of Norfair. Didn’t even fight Crocomire. Seems you can get anywhere with enough wall jumps and energy tanks 😛
-
Yeah, there’s a speed run on you toob…
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=super+metroid+speed+run&sm=3
Actually, have a look, there’s a reverse boss order one here, HA!
But yeah, Metroids were once famous for being able to be broken. There was a group or whatever.
-
Yeah, I remember figuring out that Zero Mission was easily breakable because there was a Super Missile upgrade that could be gotten much earlier in the game if you knew when it was.
This one I broke by accident, and just kind of ended up lost because I didn’t know what I was doing 😛
-
Super Metroid is great for getting lost even when you play properly.
No hand holding back then!
I remember a couple of mates gave up on it cos they couldn’t figure out you had to shoot all 5 missiles to open pink doors.
When I figured it out and showed them, they said it was stupid and never gave it another chance.Such a good game!
-
@DC check out that muzak! SNES gold! (even if you don’t like the gameplay)
-
-
-
Finally, I can see the new TAY, dunno what was going on *shakes fist at the cloud*
-
Hey Jimu, my friend! Hope you’re well? Still on holidays?
-
Sorta. Back on Monday D:
-
Woo!
US copies of FFX-X2 HD on Vita have dissapeared from Playsia. Hope that means they’ll be posting the pre-order soon.
Apparently only US$40 for both (X-2 is a code for PSN).
Wooooop!
March!!!
-
Oddly enough it’s up on Ozgameshop though – $48.
I need a US copy though, cos Im set to the US store.
-
Oh man!
First no special edeition for Vita, then no cart version of X-2 for Vita, now the worst cover imaginable for Vita…C’moooon Squeenix!-
Worst Cover Imaginable? So the old NTSC FFX cover? 😛
Personally going to wait until it’s cheap as I already finished FFX several times and don’t like FFX-2.
-
I can’t wait. I plugged 200 recorded hours into X plus a quick replay & finished X-2 2.5 times. I love them both so much, can’t wait for handheld versions! 😀
Also, $40 for two full JRPGs is a bargain. I would have paid something like $100 each for them back in the day (or whatever they cost at full price here).
-
If I had money to burn I’d buy that special edition on PS3 too. Sadly, my modest budget will only cover one version & I want em portable
-
I just prefer either the logo (PAL version) or that new pic of Tidus and Yuna upside down to each other (if that makes sense) (PS3 version).
Vita is just getting two old pieces of promotional art, which I’m pretty sure weren’t the original covers, side by side. It’s boring.
-
I used to love the PAL cover art they did for the series up until I think XII? where it was just the logo with the stylized stencil image in the background. Like how FF7 was just white, FINAL FANTASY VII in block lettering superimposed over the blue-green meteor.
Maybe all the PAL stuff is still like that? I started importing them after X because I couldn’t wait for PAL releases.
-
Yeah, for some reason they made the judge massive behind the 12 logo.
So really, it was the same style but with a massive pic instead of one that fit neatly behind.Yeah, I prefer the PAL covers, so neat.
I have a real mix these days, I think I have PAL from VI til XII (minus 11, didn’t go near that).
Actually my 13 and 13-2 are both PAL and they sort of have two covers because of the cases they come in.So I have every main numbered game except 11 and 12 (which shouldn’t be main numbers imho) and the others are either American or I think my FFVadvance is from Singapore, yeah, I picked it up when I was over there.
So, collection is a bit of a mess now :-s
-
i am a nurd
-
-
-
I don’t know if I should do some retrogaming… 🙁
-
Do it!
I’m planning on playing through all the Zeldas and Pokémons myself.-
I’m trying to download Beavis & Butthead: Do U as we speak.
-
just each gen yeah?
-
Yeah. Not the stadiums or anything, just every gen on GBC/GBA/DS.
-
Oh yeah, but I meant, not like Ruby Saphire and Emerald, just Emerald yeah?
So like Fire Red, Soul Silver, Emerald, Platinum, White, Black 2?
-
Oh wait! So Actual Red – Silver – Emerald etc?
-
Every portable main game:
Red-Blue-Yellow-Gold-Silver-Crystal-Ruby-Sapphire-FireRed-LeafGreen-Emerald-Diamond-Pearl-Platinum-HeartGold-SoulSilver-Black-White-Black 2-White 2-X-Y.
I’m hoping that’ll take me up to the inevitable Ruby and Sapphire re-releases, and then Pokémon Z after that (because X is length, Y is width, and Z is height). -
Jeebus!
I was expecting Pokemon Gray after Black & White.
Pretty sure they will do Z this time though.I really hope R&S remakes are on the way!
-
I think they only went Black 2 and White 2 because tehy didn’t do a remake that gen.
I don’t see why they wouldn’t be doing a R/S remake. That torchic must have been hinting at it, as must the fact that you can get gen 1 starters in X/Y.

The wifi card on my computer has crapped itself it seems. Every other device connects fine. Any suggestions on replacements? Do I need a full internal card again or are the USB dongles better nowadays?
-
Card. Better bandwidth and larger antennas for better signal strength.
-
Any good ones or anything I need to look for? Or are they all pretty much the same?
-
Depends on your WiFi network. Is your router dual-band 802.11n? Because if it is, you need a dual-band card as well (because the 5ghz band is much better than the 2.4ghz band). Otherwise a dual-band card isn’t necessary.
-
It is. My iPhone 5 is the only thing in the house that is compatible with the 5Ghz.
-
Get yourself a dual-band card then. 5ghz is much stronger, less congested and faster. The only downside is that it doesn’t have quite as long a range because it doesn’t penetrate walls as effectively.
-
-
-
Wouldn’t matter. Could just pick up one of them extremely tiny USB dongles like this.
if you send me the model number of your router, I’ll find a good one for you if you want
-
Belkin N600 DB Wireless N+ Router
Model: F9K1102v1-
http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=273&bid=4&sid=100867
That’s probably going to give you best bang for your buck. Dual band wireless N600. That’s at umart in southport. Got any questions, just gimme a holler somewhere! 🙂
-
Mine did the same a few months ago. Took it to the local computer repair place and they said they didn’t have anything they could replace it with. Ended up buying a USB dongle like Virus linked. Sometimes the signal drops out a bit but 99% of the time its fine
-
Yeah I got one for my raspberry pi, i’m impressed with how good it is, since it works on the other side of the house without fault.
I’m using a cheap dongle I bought off eBay and even though it works, it annoys the everlasting fuck out of me. Because it’s untidy. And sometimes causes USB-related BSODs.
Oh yeah. Mum broke my HDMI cable and then tried to fix it by bending the pins back into place. She couldn’t understand that it still was broken after that.
-
Hey, she did better than my mum. She was moving stuff around and putting it in awkward positions because ???, and ended up dropping the thing. There was a USB cable plugged in the back, which ended up snapping and dislodging the stuff in the Wii’s USB port before popping out. So she just goes and jams it back in, mangling the displaced pins into an unrecoverable state…
So glad it was a spare Wii I ended up with, and not my one. Also lucky that the other USB port was still usable.
-
Wow. I would be so pissed at my Mum if she did that to mine
-
If it became nonfunctional, I would have been 😛
But then I figure that the Wii is that plentiful and valueless that I’d be able to fairly easily get a cheap/free/broken one and harvest it for parts if I really wanted to fix it up.
-
-
@novacascade
While you’re here. We wanted to ask you about what my mother called travel accounts or something. Something we can start dumping money into every now and then to pay off the Japan trip? If such a thing exists?
-
i would like to know the same thing, but Mum wants London.
-
See below 🙂
-
-
We can do that in our office. Whether its Japan or any other trip, you can put money on a file and once you have enough or decide where you want to go, you can pay off your trip. The only thing that I would mention, is that you would have to book your trip through whichever office you deposit your money, especially with Harvey World Travel, since we are all franchises
In the case of Japan, once you deposit, you can pay all your finals at once right before the due date or $100 per week between now and the end of the year.
Sorry Ive been quiet since Christmas, my girlfriends granny passed away between Christmas and New Years so I haven’t been at work for a couple of weeks. I’ll send you all the details when I get back next week
-
Curious about prices for london and stuff, if you could get me info on that it would be much appreciated
-
Flights would be around $1800-2400 per person depending on when you want to go and how far ahead you book them. If you just wanted accommodation in London, you are probably looking at around $100 per person per night. If you prefer tours, you could do a 2 week tour of the UK or Europe from around $3000 per person depending on the company
-
I know Mum wants to visit her homeland and see some of the places that she didn’t get to see while there (so, tower of london and a few other things)
-
-
-
Hey, you guys! I love you! You’re awesome! :’)
-
Right back at you!
-
Ahhhh so that’s why you linked to the falling-off-the-wagon article yesterday. 😛
Interestingly, we just watched the episode of the Newsroom where Will
reports the death of Osama Bin Laden while totally baked.-
He’s high on love.
-
That ep was probably the only one in the entire run where it didn’t click with me. The collective reaction to the news I found a bit jarring and over the top.-
\o/ We reacted the same.
It made me uneasy how happy they were that someone had died, and smacked of the patriotism that prevented The West Wing from really gelling with me.-
Felt to me like Sorkin projected his own opinion on the entire city of New York instead of a more nuanced reaction. I remember watching CNN when that actual story broke and while I felt a sense that a certain part of history had bookended shut, it wasn’t a celebration more… uh… closure?
-
-
-
He got too dizzy circling the wagons he fell off 🙂
-
That or we painted the wagons and the fumes have gotten to me!
Gonna paint that wagon!
Gonna paint it good!-
Gonna paint that wagon,
‘Cause it gives you wood!

NO U

You’re also swell!
I’m downloading a fishing game, and I’m excited… but I can’t stand fishing in real life…
Why? :\
-
Seems a little obvious to remind you of your handle…
-
I’m the same with golf games.
I couldn’t give a crap about golf in real life.Give me Mario Golf or Pangya or Everybody’s Golf and I can’t stop!

Hell, if I could get it to run, I’d be playing Microsoft Golf 2.0 right now!
-
GOG won’t find my email address so I can’t log in…
;( D:
-
Bummer.
🙁-
Meh. I’ve probably forgotten one character in my email address. Was only checking the fallout games though, so I’ll probably try again at a later date.
-
I think, that next week, instead of posting in TAY, we should post in Gizmodo’s Whitenoise. Just for the lols. Then, the week after, we’ll come back to TAY, and the Gizmodo editors will be all…
“What just happened?”
-
We’ve invaded them before. It’s fun for a moment, but ultimately kind of anti-climactic. 😛
I’m sure @DC has the relevant links in his file.
-
Ahh bugger that, we should invade popsugar and freak them all out
-
-
Man, that was fun.
-
That is an old one 🙁
-
-
Here’s the newest whitenoise. But I agree with aliasalpha, I think we’d be better served invading Popsugar.
-
-
I spent ages on Whitenoise, but then I realised that I was reading the TAYvasion from last year. I just assumed the date on top of posts was wrong.
-
I tried sparking up convo in there and a guy told me to “Fuck Off” no joke.
-
What a chode.
-
Fuck Gigatrack.
-
That’s a sentiment I can get behind.
-
Nah, you want to fuck something, fuck uplay! I got a platinum on Gigatrack in Evo Gold, something in the region of 220th in the world (presumably the PC only world), then uplay fucks up my save and strips me of about half my medals including that one. The real bitch of it is my time is still recorded in the leaderboard, I just don’t have the sodding medal
I’m off to bed.
Goodnight.
My bike has been making weird noises and has been difficult to ride. I thought my front tire was flat, I pumped it up. It feels flatish again, but not completely. Bought a new tube, tire feels full of air again.
I do not remember bikes being this complicated. Especially considering I used to do my own bike repairs.
-
I blame the schools
-
Turns out the petrol stations air pressure machine was not connected properly
-
All because of the schools!
-
-
So, Rise of the Triad did what BRINK did a couple of weeks ago.
Why is this happening?
-
ROTT did what now?
-
Said it needed to re-install, and just synced.
-
Yo!
-
Lo!
-
Ho!
-
Bo!
-
Sai!

-
Well, I played the Operation Flashpoint – Dragon Rising demo. I expected a tense experience. I was bored out of my skull. Shame.
-
Ofpdr is pretty crap really, red river was better but not by enough. Arma 3 is where it’s at
-
This is the first time I have played something from this genre. I get the feeling I probably wont like the whole genre, as I think I prefer brainless action. I washed the bad taste of operation flashpoint out of my mouth with Serious Sam.
FUN FACT*: Arma is an Operation Flashpoint spinoff. Don’t know how Bohemia has the IP, though, since OF is owned by Codemasters
*Fun facts don’t have to be fun or factual
-
Funner fact, I’ve been playing ofp since 2001 back when it was a joint production. Bis owned the core content since they developed it from scratch, codies owned the ip because they ponied up the cash as publisher. At some point they both started acting like petulant children and split up, like most divorces the kids suffered the most. BIS renamed their baby arma cold war crisis and codies had a new one and gave it the old name like calling a new cat mr whiskers 2

Ok, got my sub-3 hour Super Metroid run done. Although annoyingly I seem to have missed a single missile upgrade, somehow.
Really must stop staying up til ~5 or 6 in the morning doing dumb things.
-
You’re young, it’s okay.
-
…Can’t remember if I’ve ever said how old I am on here, wondering how young you think I am >_>
Still, I don’t like not getting up til the afternoon and just not getting anything done.
-
…I just woke up.
-
In the season finale, you told the story of wooing Sketchbook after your graduation. We just figured…
-
Heh. It’s not my first graduation 😛
-
Graduating from distance courses at the old folks home? No wonder pillowmaker makes pillows, her hip hasn’t been the same since the operation…

Just one trophy away from 100%ing Welcome Park on my new Vita…
It will be mine!
-
There’s trophies for that? What do you have to do?
-
It’s the Vita’s tutorials, so you just have to do them in a certain amount of time. I was stuck on a 15 piece slider puzzle, but I just finished it. 100%! For a game that’s not even a game!
-
Aussies are three wickets away from 5-0!
Australia, you fuckin bewdy! 😀
5-0!
Beat Guacamelee! What a great game
-
Yeah, love it. Actually only 2 trophies off a platinum but ehhhhhhhhhhhhh
So Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII doesn’t have a limited edition?
-
I don’t know?
-
Looks like if you preorder from EB they give a steel case and Cloud costume DLC.
Oddly, overseas there’s all sorts of choices with different DLC costumes :-s
Sometimes I hate DLC.
-
JB has no steel book but has Samurai costumes DLC
You get Yuna costume DLC when you buy X/X-2 HD.
I am consfused now :-s
-
The solution is obvious. Pre-order both and give the extra copy away, or sell it.
-
-
-
Nope, but it does have a Japanese audio track! So I don’t have to import the Asia release again.
Has anyone else noticed that the creators of Candy Crush Saga’s new games are copies of other games but with a new skin?
Bubble witch Saga is Bubble bobble.
Papa Pear is Peggle.
-
Hope they get sued like crazy.
-
They’re advertising, so I doubt it.
-
-
I think you mean Puzzle Bobble, not Bubble Bobble
-
that’s the one. I get confused, sorry
-
I thought she meant Bust-a-move. Then I googled.
How about that 😛
-
It’s the same characters in both (Bub and Bob)
-
-
From what I’ve seen (I’ve never actually played it) Candy Crush is just Bejeweled with lollies instead of gems, so I’m not surprised they’ve reskinned more games.
Anyone want to reskin Tetris and turn the blocks into pieces of fruit or something? We could make millions.
-
You can’t copyright game mechanics.
That said, Magic:the Gathering holds a patent on tapping (turning sideways to indicate a card out of play) cards.
-
Still it sucks that a lot of people are going to think that it’s an original idea
-
I floop the pig
-
I send a cease and desist for patent violation
-
-
I played Blacklight Retribution PC for 90 minutes. I pretty much only used the knife. Good fun.
I think that from now on, I will press 4 in all fps as soon as I spawn, just out of habit. In the same way that I reload as soon as I’ve shot someone.
What is this?:

O_O
-
Haha! I wondered why you tagged me, but Arcade Fire I guess? He’s not a member of the core group just a guy that tours with them and does some instrumental stuff in the studio. XD
-
that’s why.
Now explain…
-
Bwahahahahaha!
-
what?
So i finished chapter 1 of the walking dead, god that was stressful!
-
Season 1 or 2?
-
season 1
-
Without wanting to spoil the ride ahead, you quite honestly have seen nothing of stress yet… Enjoy it!
-
-
Just 100% finished Welcome Park on the Vita.
Games Finished in 2014 (spoilered for wall of text):
Welcome Park

AssPirates (Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag)
My tuner card can’t pick up any Channel 7 channels.
You might say that this is a good thing, but I really want to be able to watch the tennis, V8s and AFL this year. 🙁
Joy. Mum brought home a new laptop, asked me to help her set it up. I have no idea what I’m doing at the best of times, but it’s even better now because it’s window 8. I don’t know where the fuck anything is.
And now it turns out that it shares the same problem Dad’s little netbook has – when it’s connected to the network, it stops every other wireless device from being able to connect properly, and we have no idea why. Must be something about these Asus laptops. Ugh.
-
My first instinct is that its fighting over an ip address, try setting it to a high range static address that’s definitely not likely to be in use (eg: .183) instead of dynamic
-
I don’t think it’s that, on the router it came up on its own IP address just fine separate from the others that were already on there. Also would that cause all the other wireless connections to fail, and the wired ones to still be fine?
-
Oh I misread it as knocking one other system off. Does it do the same if plugged in?
I’d lay odds its something trying to help, that’s often how these things fuck up. Might be something like it trying to share the wireless or maybe negotiate some wireless security thing that the other devices can’t handle (wpa2 exclusively instead of mixed maybe)
-
Not sure, this one doesn’t have an ethernet port on it. Dad’s one worked fine when it was wired up though. It’s all just using WEP (don’t tell anyone :P) though, there’s no mixed stuff going on or anything like that. I figure there’s just some kind of wireless screaming going on that we can’t hear, and all the other devices just clamp their hands over their ears once it starts and don’t stop until the router’s been reset.
-
WEP is like having no encryption at all, you know. You can crack it in seconds.
What sort of router is it? I had terrible issues with my Telstra-supplied Netgear cable router when I first got it because it had some kind of retarded QoS system for the wireless. Turned that shit off and stuff worked properly.
-
It’s an old Belkin thing we got back when we first got broadband, back in 2005 or so. iiNet/OzEmail-branded 😛 It’s still on WEP because it was set up for DS in the first place and… it kinda still is. And now there’s a whole tonne of machines attached to it to the point where the tables and such are kinda full and we struggle to find a spare slot for it when new things get brought home.
Haven’t really had any issues with it before this, other than the DS’s connection crashing after a while. That fixed with a firmware update somewhere along the way.
-
In essence you’re using a pair of tin cans connected with string and have spliced other bits of string and more cans on as you’ve gone along.
MIGHT be time to consider a slightly more modern router
-
@aliasalpha In that case I’ll let dad sort it out.
-

MORE LATE NIGHT TURTLES! \o/
-
Krang sounds weird in this one. Gollum-like. Except throatier, less nasal.
Why am I awake?

Well, I just had a pretty horrible game of LoL inter bots. Has anyone ever heard of Trollnivia?
It’s where a team mate uses Anivia’s wall ability to block escape routes. This Anivia had the gall the pretend he was innocent. I was down in bot with him, and every time he would kill me, he would complain about how bad I was, and that I let the team down. Every time a teammate would come bot for a gank, he would play normally. I was complaining about Anivia, but my teammates didn’t believe me. They just thought I was a complaining asshole. It took about 20 minutes for the team to realise I was serious. It was about this time that the bird decided he was going to reform, and started playing normally. Problem was I was already 5 levels behind due to all my deaths.
We somehow ended up winning the matxh, though. My other non-troll teammates were good enough to recover.
For a while, I have been kind of falling out with LoL, and I was trying to get back into the game. I don’t think I want to play any more league after that. Even without troll birds ruining everything, I still suck.
HEY! @transientmind!
XCOM2 and Fallout 4 this year!
-
AMS HAS WILLPWOERS OF STEELS.
PUNY GAME RELEASES WILL NOT FAZE MIGHTY TRANSIENT.-
I’ve seen stronger men break for less 😉
You’ll crack, Transient.
