Zynga Shutters More Facebook Games

Petville gets the green needle, Vampire Wars bites the dust and Fishville’s smelling a bit off.

Zynga had stated that it would shutter a number of its Facebook games in December, and that’s exactly what’s happened, with PetVille, FishVille, Montopia, Vampire Wars, Indiana Jones Adventure World and others going to that great digital grave in the sky.

I can’t say I’ve ever been into Zynga’s Facebook games in any real way at all, but I do find Zynga’s offer to players somewhat amusing; according to Hollywood Reporter, the company posted on the now-defunct PetVille page that

“We appreciate your participation in PetVille as it helped make the game a fun place to meet and war with friends. As a loyal PetVille player, you are eligible for a one-time, complimentary bonus package in one of either Castleville, or Chefville, or Farmville 2, or Mafia Wars or Yoville.”

Are lovers of cute and cuddly pets going to want to either put them in drafty stone buildings, farm them, cook them, or get them selling drugs? I don’t know — but then again, perhaps Mafia Wars is now all about Don Corleone’s cat. [Hollywood Reporter]
