Community Kudos

Man, this place. Seriously. 10.15 today Batguy wanders into the Kotaku office. He comes bearing gifts. Not for me necessarily, but for my 1 month old son. I’m getting teary thinking about it. What did I do to deserve this kind of ridiculous show of kindness? Please tell me so I can keep on doing it! Sincerely. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! Also: time for Community Kudos.

But first — some pics of all the stuff! (And Batguy!)

Delivery!

The box it came in…

The amazing hand drawn card! (I’m guessing this was the work of Sughly!)

An amazing Baby Mario bib!

Hahahaha! I love this so much!

Amazing Pac-Man blanket!

Seriously, thank you. Special thanks to Batguy for bringing the stuff in, and to Batguy’s wife Cooking Mama for making some really brilliant suggestions on what a new baby boy needs in his life. It really is an honour to write for and be involved with a community like this. It’s a one of a kind thing as far as I’m concerned. Thanks for making this job the best job in the world.

Alright, I’m getting too sentimental now… onto the noms!

Oh, but first, an apology. The Kudos post will now be scheduled round about 4pm Sydney time. The reason for this is that I’ve changed my hours from seven till four so I can spend time with my new wee baby! Sorry if any kudos noms miss out during the crossover. I’ll make sure they get noted in next weeks Community Kudos.

To kick things off we have some nominations from James Mac. When I first arrived at Kotaku James Mac was a guy who was really, really nice to me. Thanks buddy — we all miss you and hope you can find time to drop by every now and then!

James Mac
Firstly I’m not sure this email is supposed to use the Mortal Kombat spelling… but I got on an alliteration assignation and I couldn’t make a deviation.

Like General William Wallace Momyer, I am carpet nomming up this joint.

I’d like to start with a nom for all of the TAYbies.

Y’all know who you are (I trust someone is keeping a list) so I shan’t name you specifically. I nomm you for the way you consistently support and welcome newbies. I’m sorry I don’t drop by anymore, but I see your comment counts in the thousands and smile… thinking of a simpler time.
If it counts; I still think of you crazy kids…

Moving on; a nomm for Jung Jung.

Undoubtably @junglist will receive many nomms for the redoubtable job you’ve been doing in Marks absence, and you have been, but this is not for that.

Earlier this week ‘Who’s that girl?’ by Guy Sebastian was playing at work and I had a hearty chortle remembering your fears of the canon being messed up by subsequent songs. So, a nomm to you for that.

Thirdly, multiple nomms to the twitterati who answered my questions about exclusives worth buying now that I’ve procured a PS3.
They include ‘TheCracks’, ‘Puppylicks’, ‘Beardy McMuttonchops’, Serrels, Powalen, and Ben White.

Very helpful suggestions from those cats… so a nomm for them too.

I think this is good a place as any to publically thank both Alex Kidman and Junglist for the awesome work they did during my month off. I really loved Alex’s stuff on retro gaming and Junglist’s Dark Souls series has inspired me to play the game again. Thanks guys!

CrazyGuy1990 did the obligatory Oprah noms…

I’d like to nominate all of the TAYbies for Kudos this week, because they’ve all been so awesome!

P.S. A shout out to Freeze, as well. I hope your finger gets better, mate.

Oh man, what did I miss? What happened Freeze’s finger?

Was Aleph-Null giving games away. OH YOU!

CJ
One “Nom” for Aleph for giving away a bunch of games this week. Also late bonus Nom for dragging us all to that Korean place on new years.

I have a lot of respect for @DC’s use of the @!

DC
@freezespreston! @strange! @shane!

Welbot also managed to score a nom from BloodApathy!

BloodApathy
I’d like to Nom Mr Welbot. His gift of DOTA 2, has helped me enjoy my new laptop very much

I’m going to leave it to Strange, who makes a habit of hitting nails on heads.

Strange
This week’s Kudos needs to go Batguy and Cooking Mama for their hard work in arranging the gifts for your new addition. They pulled our well-intentioned, disorganised rabble into a gift-buying force to be reckoned with and without them I doubt anything would have happened.

Joint winners this week are Batguy and Cooking Mama! Congratulations!

Have a great weekend everyone!
