Rayman Legends Designer Poses With Game Delay Protestors

Rayman Legends — hotly anticipated as one of the best third-party games coming to the Wii U — was supposed to hit the Nintendo console in two weeks. But Ubisoft announced a six-month delay for the game last week so that work can be done on porting it to the Xbox 360 and PS3 and Wii U owners have been up in arms ever since. They’re mad, quite understandably. And so is Rayman’s creator.

Eurogamer has pictures of Michel Ancel, the artist/designer who’s responsible for the limbless hero, standing in apparent solidarity with protestors outside the Montepelier studio where Rayman Legends is being made. The article claims that the men with Ancel are members of the studio but it’s unclear of that’s the case. A poster with a picture of a crying Rayman pleads for a Feb 26. for the Wii U version. The controversy around the delay got even hotter last week when an anonymous poster claiming to have worked on the game said that the dev team was also angry at the six-month slip. “If you’re pissed, imagine how we feel,” said EOL user Zeta69.

Michel Ancel posing with some folks outside the Ubisoft studio he runs may not change the minds of the “men in ties” that Zeta69 ranted against. But when a guy leading development on a game seems sympathetic to folks who are pissed at those same execs, it probably won’t make their day either.

  • Gee, they would probably be better off releasing it in 6 months at this stage. Most people who were after the game are pretty pissed off right now. Maybe they’ll have calmed down enough in half a year to consider buying it.

    • Not likely… Considering the Wii U version is completed, Ubisoft have decided to delay it so the multiplatform releases can be finished and all three released at once.

If I were actually interested in getting the game, for the reasons they’re doing it, I wouldn’t be buying it… and quite frankly I hope it flops on all three consoles if Ubisoft want to pull this crap.

Last year when they said Ass Creed 3 would launch on all three platforms (360, PS3 and PC) simultaneously, then they delayed the PC version, they didn’t delay the console versions at all…. It’s just a money grab tactic.

  • To be honest, with this and Ninja Gaiden both now multi platform, I’ve decided to sell my Wii U. Lack of third party support has driven me over the edge.

Just this morning I deleted all data from my console and will be putting it on eBay tomorrow.

And in regards to Ubisoft, Ive already made the decision to never purchase an Assassins Creed game again, after the buggy and rushed part 3. And after this Legends game, I’m back away from Ubisoft altogether.

    I’ll speak with my wallet.

    • Isn’t that a little drastic? It’s only 3 months old, which it took just as long for the last generations to get a game base. I do think if you are a Nintendo fan you will regret this move when the major title come out this year.

But I’m with you on the fact I will not buy or play Rayman Legends as it was a big slap in the face as the Wii U version is done and ready to ship.

        • Drastic maybe, but I think after the Wii, and now the Wii U, I’ve just had enough of Nintendo and lack of quality 3rd party titles.

I like Nintendo games, but I want something new. I made a vow with myself that this generation of consoles would be the final consoles I purchase. And sadly the Wii U just isn’t getting the support other consoles have.

I know it’s only 3 months in, but I’m not sticking around to E3 to ‘hope’ for support.

    • If it weren’t for Lego City Undercover and MH3U coming out next month, I’d have sold my Wii U as well. As for Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, it’s released everywhere except here. We have a rating for it, but that’s all we have, and it’s been a month since we found out. Even if Ubisoft didn’t pull a big “fuck you” with Rayman, I still would have been happy if NG3 came out. I guess publishers just don’t care about Nintendo or their consumers. It’s not easy to try and like a console when there is not a single game coming out for it for almost a good 4 months.

  • This was one of the few games I absolutely wanted to get at launch. The delay to Feb was bad enough, but this…

I both want to buy it to support the devs, but also want to skip it because fuck you Ubisoft.

  • I sent an e-mail to Ubisoft’s executives expressing my opinion on why this is only going to screw everyone over…

Half of them sent automated replies saying they were out of office. Half of their execs are on holidays. Fuckin pathetic.
