Cool Dad Hacks Donkey Kong So His Daughter Can Play It As Pauline

This is pretty sweet. Mike Mika's daughter is three years old, and the two of them play a lot of video games together. "She's played as Peach in Super Mario Bros. 2 and naturally just assumed she could do the same in Donkey Kong," he wrote. When it bummed her out to learn she couldn't play as Pauline, the original damsel Mario rescued from distress, Mike set out to mod the game so she could play as the woman.

You can see the results above. He says he modified the 2010 ROM of Donkey Kong on the Nintendo Entertainment System. No word if he's sharing the ROM yet.

Men’s Rights Activists Turn Samus into a Man after Dad Replaces Mario with Pauline for Daughter

I started reading that post and was like WTF!!! these guys have some issues. Just like their other side...let it go.

Dude, it's a parody site... a quick check reveals other articles such as

I wonder where he got the sprites from... Maybe he drew them himself?

Wasn't this already reported on Kotaku some time ago?

Whoh, Pauline is like totally not wearning underwear.NSFW warning please.

Wait, that wasn't Princess Peach in Donkey Kong? Man, they should re-introduce Pauline in future Mario games, as the crazy ex-girlfriend haha.

Nope, Pauline is the original princess.

Nothing says "cool dad" like raising his daughter to expect the world to reconfigure itself according to her wants and needs. Of course feminism already does that to girls, but he shouldn't be speeding up the process, he should be resisting it.

It's cool to see fathers getting their daughters into gaming and raising the next generation of hackers, crackers, jailbreakers and modders (j/k). It's interesting though, that while the father put Pauline in as the heroine rescuing Mario in order to subvert the "Damsel in Distress" trope, he still perpetuated the stereotype that girls love pink things and fashion accessories.
